Adeyemi seek Fed Govt”s intervention, support for artists

A renowned member of Osogbo School of Art and former captain of the Duro Ladipo Theatre Group, Prince Yinka Adeyemi has advocated adequate attention and support of federal government for Nigeria creative economy in view of its potential to boost gross domestic earnings of the country

Adeyemi, who advocated for establishment of proper national gallery in Lagos or Ibadan, emphasised economic prospects of Arts to national development

Speaking in Ibadan ahead of a grand multimedia arts exhibition tagged: “Metamorphosis”coming up soon in Lagos and Ibadan, he said government must realise that art is a powerful economic driver, adding that Crude oil is diminishing, but art is regenerative and eternal.

The exhibition, organised by the Tunde Odunlade Culture and Arts Foundation (TOCA-F) in collaboration with Master of the Minds Creative Gallery, will highlight   the life, works, and legacy of Adeyemi who recently clocked 80 years.

He said: “Our works are everywhere in the world, yet many remain uncollected at home. Nigeria needs a proper national gallery in Ibadan or Lagos. The government must realise that art is a powerful economic driver. Crude oil is diminishing, but art is regenerative and eternal.”

Adeyemi while reflecting on his journey said:”Art is creativity. Nobody can do without art. From my youth in 1963, when I joined the plastic arts and followed masquerades in Ile-Ife, to 1966 when we formed the Osogbo group of artists, my passion has been to elevate Nigerian art. Contemporary works of today are the antiquities of tomorrow.”

Adeyemi, whose works have been displayed in museums across the United States, Germany, and India, expressed commitment to mentoring new generations of artists.

His upcoming book, ‘Tanwa’, written in Yoruba, English and French, will also be adapted into a film in partnership with Nollywood actor and producer Gabriel Afolayan.

“We want the world to see this story of ‘lost and found.’ Just as Chinua Achebe’s books were translated into 50 languages, we must make our stories available globally.”

CEO of TOCA-F, Tunde Odunlade emphasised global significance of Adeyemi’s works and the need to celebrate arts icon.

“Art is the only fully finished product Nigeria exports. While crude oil produces over 400 by-products, art itself is complete, unique, and priceless. Prince Adeyemi has been a cultural ambassador for decades, and it is only right that we celebrate him.

  • From Classroom to Cyber Frontlines: Adeyemi’s mission to defend the Digital World

From Classroom to Cyber Frontlines: Adeyemi’s mission to defend the Digital World

In a digital age increasingly defined by data breaches, social engineering scams, and ever- evolving cyber threats, cybersecurity advocates are more critical than ever—and few have embraced this role with as much purpose and impact as Dahunsi Samuel Adeyemi.

A native of Nigeria and now based in Virginia, Dahunsi’s journey from a passionate student of technology to an influential cybersecurity voice and a Data Center Technician at Google is nothing short of remarkable. With a strong academic foundation and real-world experience spanning Africa and the United States, he has emerged as both a technologist and an educator dedicated to shielding individuals and small businesses from the dangers lurking online.

Dahunsi holds a Master of Science in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance from the

University of Central Missouri, building on a Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Science from the University of Ilorin. His academic journey reflects a deep commitment to mastering both the technical and human dimensions of digital defense.

But Dahunsi’s impact isn’t limited to classrooms or laboratories. As an active cybersecurity enthusiast, he has spent the last several years leading workshops, creating awareness content, and consulting with small- to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) on how to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber threats—especially those related to social engineering, one of the most deceptive and damaging attack methods.

“Many of the most successful cyberattacks don’t exploit software—they exploit people,” Dahunsi explains. “That’s why education and awareness are just as vital as firewalls and encryption.”

Dahunsi’s focus on social engineering isn’t accidental. He authored a comprehensive research paper examining how cybercriminals use psychological manipulation to trick users into giving away sensitive information. His research not only demystifies the tactics behind phishing and impersonation scams but also provides actionable insights on prevention—making it a valuable resource for both IT professionals and everyday users.

Through this work, he’s earned a reputation as a trusted voice in cybersecurity education, especially among business owners unfamiliar with the technical side of digital safety.

In March 2025, Dahunsi began a new chapter in his career, joining Google as a Data Center Technician supporting machine learning infrastructure. In this role, he ensures the

performance, security, and reliability of the hardware systems that power Google’s cutting-edge AI and machine learning capabilities.

This new position aligns perfectly with his technical skills and passion for infrastructure security. “Working at Google allows me to be at the heart of global innovation while continuing to apply best practices in system integrity and reliability,” he says.

While Dahunsi’s journey has taken him from Nigeria to the U.S. tech scene, his mission remains rooted in accessibility. He believes that cybersecurity should not be a luxury reserved for large corporations, but a basic necessity for everyone—especially small businesses and underserved communities.

Whether speaking at local meetups, mentoring aspiring tech professionals, or collaborating with business owners on risk assessments, Dahunsi continues to be a voice of clarity in a noisy, often intimidating digital world.

As he settles into his role at Google, Dahunsi is already thinking ahead. He plans to launch a cybersecurity awareness initiative focused on educating young professionals, SMEs, and non- technical users about real-world threats and how to defend against them.

“The more connected we become, the more important digital trust becomes,” Dahunsi says. “My goal is to build that trust—through knowledge, action, and community.”

From securing global infrastructure to empowering local entrepreneurs, Dahunsi Samuel Adeyemi is not just working in tech—he’s redefining what it means to protect it.

  • Abbas, Uba Sani, Onnoghen, Okorocha, Adeyemi, others lose Abuja plots of land

Abbas, Uba Sani, Onnoghen, Okorocha, Adeyemi, others lose Abuja plots of land

Seven hundred and sixty-two Nigerians, including House of Representatives Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, and organisations have lost their plots of land in the high-brow Maitama 1 District and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT).

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike revoked their Certificates of Occupancy(Cs-of-O) and threatened to withdraw the Rights of Occupancy (Rs-of-O) of 614 other individuals and companies if they fail to pay outstanding bills on their plots within two weeks.

The decisions by the minister were contained in two separate public notices published yesterday by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

The revocation, according to one of the notices published,  was  informed by the unwillingness  of the affected persons, who are mostly serving and former public office holders,  to pay  the Cs-of-O) of the affected plots of land.

The second notice hinged on the threat to cancel the Rs-of-O due to the allottees’ failure to pay outstanding bills on their plots.

One of the revoked Cs-of-O is that of the land belonging to the Muhammadu Buhari Trust Foundation.

However, Shehu Garba, media aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, clarified that the land belonged to the foundation and not his principal.’

Those threatened with revocation orders in the second notice  include two former Senate  Presidents–  Iyorchia Ayu and Ameh Ebute–; Senators Andy Uba, Biodun Olujimi, Agom Jarigbe, Kingsley Chinda, and Ben Obi;  former Ebonyi State Governor Sam Egwu; erstwhile Aviation Minister   Stella Oduah;   and  Deputy Governor of Edo State Dennis Idahosa.

The corporate entities with their allocation revoked are BUA Group, whose plot is at  335 in Katampe; Julius Berger Nigeria with a plot at 2217 also in  Katampe and  Honeywell Construction with a plot at 653 in the Idu Industrial Area of the FCT.

The second notice by the  FCTA reads: “The Federal Capital Territory Administration wishes to inform the allottee (s)/title holder (s) of plots of land in Maitama 1 who have failed to make payment for their Certificate of Occupancy (Cs-of-O) bills after the expiration of grace period granted by the Honourable Minister, Federal Capital Territory that their Right of Occupancy to the land/property have been withdrawn, pursuant to the provisions of Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978 for contravention of the terms of grant which obligated the title/interest holders to settle all bills.

“Section 28 of the Land Use Act, to which the FCTA notice referred, stipulates how landed properties vested in individuals can be revoked by authorities. Subsection Five   empowers state governors (the Minister of the FCT in the case of Abuja) to revoke a statutory right of occupancy on the ground of-

    “(a) a breach of any of the provisions which a certificate of occupancy is by section 10 of this Act deemed to contain;

“breach of any term contained in the certificate of occupancy or in any special contract made under section 8 of this Act. The non-payment of statutory fees by landowners are considered violations for which allocated plots can be revoked.

“The Federal Capital Territory Administration hereby informs the general public, particularly allotee (s)/title holder (s) of land in the Maitama 1 District of the FCT who have since made payment of their outstanding Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) bills to as a matter of urgency pay the balance of their bills within two weeks from the date of this publication or have their Rights of Occupancy (Rs-of-O) titles withdrawn.”

Buhari not owner of revoked plot

Following online media reports, Shehu debunked claims that the revoked land listed as  Muhammadu Buhari Trust Foundation belonged to his boss.

Shehu explained in a statement that the foundation was established by individuals close to the former President.

He said the foundation lawfully acquired the land with support from well-meaning Nigerians but encountered bureaucratic hurdles when the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) presented an unusually high bill for the issuance of the C–of–O.

“This bill was far higher than what was typically charged to similar organisations,” he said, adding that the revocation of the property rights came as no surprise.

He further stressed that Buhari, during his tenure, had demonstrated a personal disinterest in acquiring additional land in Abuja.

“When he and his cabinet members were invited to apply for land in the FCT, he returned the form unfilled, stating that he already owned a plot and that others without land should benefit instead,” Shehu explained.

He chided commentators spreading ‘’misinformation’’ about the revoked plot.

“Let those jumping up and down in the digital space get their facts right and stop dragging the name of the former president into baseless controversies,” Shehu said.

The FCT  Minister had in September last year announced the revocation of Cs-of-O of 165 plots in Abuja.

Last month, Wike emphasised that he would not mind hurting the rich in the reforms he was introducing in the territory.

He also pegged the cost of obtaining a C-of-O at N5 million, with a four-month window for payment, and vowed to end multiple allocations of the same plot to different people.

  • Adeyemi sues Melaye over Kogi West election

    •APC candidate seeks fresh poll

A FORMER Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) President, Senator Smart Adeyemi has filed a petition against the election of Dino Melaye for Kogi West.

Adeyemi, who had twice represented the senatorial district, said a lot of inflation of votes and over-voting were perpetrated at the polls and even at the collation centre.

He also alleged that with the Certified True Copies of results at his disposal, it was evident that mutilated figures were announced in favour of Melaye.

He said contrary to a ruling of the Federal High Court, obtained by Melaye, that the results for Kogi West District be collated in Kabba (the headquarters of the district), INEC for no other reasons moved the collation to Lokoja, which led to manipulation of results.

He asked the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal to cancel the results and order the conduct of a fresh senatorial poll for the senatorial district.

He said: “That a lot of inflation of votes and over-voting were perpetrated at the polls and even at the collation centre to ensure that the 1st Respondent (Melaye) is declared as winner.

“The petitioner avers that the collation and declaration of the results of the election was done by INEC and its officers at Lokoja contrary to the provisions of the Electoral Act.

“In the circumstance, false and fabricated entries were made in the Forms EC8A in the various wards of the Kogi West Senatorial District and by this act invented well over 18,000 votes in favour of Melaye

“That significant instances of substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act and arbitrariness were perpetrated at the polling units by agents of the 2nd Respondent (the People’s Democratic Party) and INEC to effect the voting of Melaye by allowing manual voting and allowing unregistered voters and under-age to vote in six local government areas of the seven local government areas of Kogi West Senatorial District.”

He sought a “declaration that the Certificate of Return issued by the INEC to Melaye as the  winner of senatorial election for Kogi West Senatorial District held on February 23, 2019 is null and void and of no effect whatsoever”.

He asked for an order “cancelling the results of the six local governments in the district, namely Lokoja Local Government, Kabba/ Bunu LGA, Ijumu LGA, Yagba West LGA, Yagba East LGA and Mopa-Amuro LGA for non-compliance with the Electoral Act and for the 1st  respondent not being elected by majority of lawful votes due to over-voting”.

He urged the tribunal to “direct INEC to conduct a fresh election into the seat of Kogi West Senatorial District.”

But, Melaye claimed that Adeyemi was suing a wrong person at the tribunal and asked the court to dismiss the application demanding the cancellation of his election.

  • Nigeria is not cursed or jinxed – Adeyemi

Nigeria is neither jinxed nor cursed but only developmentally challenged, Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre Lagos, Pastor Sam Adeyemi has stated.

Adeyemi spoke on Friday after the closing ceremony of the annual Excellence in Leadership Conference (ELC) with the theme inspire that attracted hundreds of participants across the globe.

He said: “It is a matter of perspectives but as far as I am concerned, Nigeria is not cursed. It is not jinxed. If it were cursed or jinxed, I wouldn’t have made it.

Adeyemi, who lamented the brain drain in the nation, said Nigerians have no business travelling overseas with the myriad of needs around them.

“I know some will travel out but those of us left have to fix this nation. At a point in my life, travelling out was the major occupation.

“But when I realised the purpose of God for my life, travelling out becomes just a means to the end.

“I will tell those who want to stay back that Nigeria is a fertile ground. I would rather make it here than overseas because you require a level of sophistication to function and thrive there,” he stated.

He stressed: “If you stay back and fix a problem, you are good to go. That is why I will always tell people that Nigeria is a good place to stay and function.”

On killings across the nation, Adeyemi said that government must focus on fixing developmentally challenges because poverty will always dispose devalue lives.

“We can carry all the policemen and soldiers for you care but if you don’t fix poverty among Nigerians, the killings will continue.

“For N1, 000, unscrupulous people can get the poor to kill at will because many of them don’t value their lives and others around them.

“But if you give them hope and something to look out for, they will be more indisposed to endangering themselves or killing others.”

Adeyemi challenged Nigerians to build their leadership capacities instead of acting helpless.

“We have been conditioned to feel helpless and hopeless. We always blame politicians for all our challenges. But we must start taking responsibilities and fixing needs among us. That is how we can become leaders,” he stated.

  • Adeyemi praises Buhari, wants stadium named after Abiola

•Says ex-NEC boss Nwosu deserves national honour too

A former Chairman of Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senator Smart Adeyemi yesterday praised President Muhammadu Buhari for awarding the presumed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola with Nigeria’s highest national honour.

He urged the President to either name the National Stadium in Lagos or Abuja after Abiola.

He said whenever the history of Nigeria’s democracy is going to be written, President Buhari would certainly get a positive mention.

He, however, advised Buhari to recognize all the heroes of June 12 whether dead or alive.

He said that country should also not forget the chief umpire of the “undiluted election,” Prof. Humphrey Nwosu adding that he also deserves to be appreciated.

Adeyemi, in a chat with newsmen in Abuja said the honour done to Abiola vindicated a line of Nigeria’s national anthem which says that “the labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain.”

He said: “I want to say that what the President has done is highly commendable.  What he has done is to right the wrongs of the past as a patriot and leader who is committed to the socio-political and economic development of the country.

“He has shown a great sense of character as a man who is committed to the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria. What he has done is one of the landmark achievements.”

Adeyemi pleaded with Buhari to honour all June 12, 1993 Presidential Election heroes whether alive or dead.

He added:  “MKO Abiola deserves the honour and what we should be thinking of right now is to name a huge national edifice after him. MKO was the man who personified democracy in Nigeria and the Field Marshall of all democratic warriors.

“When he is honoured all the foot soldiers must also be recognized by engraving their names on a monument to be erected in a national edifice in memory of MKO. Those who contributed to the struggle for June 12 are indeed widespread. They are human right activists, the media political stakeholders and others.  We must erect a plaque in their honour and name all of them for special mention.

He added that the chief umpire of the “undiluted election,” Professor Nwosu also deserves to be appreciated.

  • Nigeria needs trained, visionary leaders, says Adeyemi

The Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre Lagos, Pastor Sam Adeyemi, has declared that the nation needs an army of trained, visionary leaders in all sectors.

He lamented that most leaders across sectors in the nation are either untrained or lacking in visions.

Adeyemi spoke with newsmen shortly after the Excellence in Leadership Conference, which attracted thousands in Lagos recently.

‘’We keep thinking if we could just change the people that are there, things will change but we keep changing, how come things are not changing?

‘’The big problem for us has been where is our leadership school? Who taught our leaders to lead? Where is it in our educational system?’’

On visions, he said leaders must see beyond the ordinary and extract opportunities from challenges.

He pointed out that though many leaders want change in the nation, they don’t know how to go about it.

‘’Many people want Nigeria to change but they did not have the clear picture of what they want Nigeria to change into,’’ he stressed.

On why leaders in Nigeria continue to fail, he said it is because the ruling class have been using political power to their economic advantages.

‘‘The problem right here in Nigeria is that the ruling class is consuming most of our resources.

‘’If you hear the budget is N3 trillion, at least N2 trillion of it will go into the bank accounts or pockets of some of the ruling class.

‘’Very little gets to Nigerians and that is why our roads are not fixed, not that we did not have money,’’ the host of Success Power radio broadcast stated.

He urged the younger generation to prepare to take over by building their influence.

‘’The important thing is that we need to be strategic and long term-thinking in our plan.

‘’I would say that we should not only focus on 2019 because it is practically almost shaped, although we need to jump into the arena and contest for power in 2019.

‘’But we should fix our gaze on 2023, 2027 & 2031. They may sound like they are far but it will not be long.

‘’Give it 10, 15 years and start from now to build your own influence, build your own power.

‘’If people that have influence today are doing it by giving people bread, whatever little bread you can buy, go and buy it too and help people because there is a lot of hunger in the country.

‘’If you can pay school fees for someone, do it and that is how we build influence.

‘’Whether the old people like it or not, 30 years from now all those that are 80 years now will be gone, it is reality of life.

‘’We can play on that reality but they cannot be in power for ever. You cannot build on somebody power, you have to build your own.

‘’It is in building your own that we have power equation, let us start from now and have a new Nigeria.’’
