  • N-Power: Bello commends FG for recruiting Kogi indigenes

    Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi  has commended the Federal Government for recruiting  7,425 unemployed graduates from the state into the second batch of  the N-Power programme.

    Bello,  in a statement in Lokoja on Tuesday, said that the programme had  given hope to the beneficiaries who were selected on merit from the 21 local government councils  of the state.

    According to him, the recruitment of the unemployed graduates into the scheme was timely and a relief to the beneficiaries as many of them had  been jobless   for years.

    Those selected were mostly from indigent  background,  the governor said in the statement signed by Adoga Ibrahim, the Coordinator of the N-Power programme in the state.

    Bello also commended President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for the introduction of the N-Power scheme under which beneficiaries are entitled to  a N30,000 stipend per month.

    He re-affirmed the support of the people and government of Kogi State for the president.

    “  We will work to strengthen the effort of the President Buhari led-administration by ensuring that the beneficiaries are deployed to critical areas that will impact on the development of the state,” Bello was quoted as saying.

    He urged the beneficiaries to give their best services to the nation and refrain from any form of misconduct.

  • N-Power: Kogi to deploy 7,425 beneficiaries

    The Kogi State Government says it has concluded plans to deploy 7, 425 successful beneficiaries of the second batch of N-Power Programme under the Federal Government Social Investment Programme (SIP) across the state.

    A statement by the Special Adviser to Gov. Yahaya Bello on Multilateral, Donor Agencies and Special Projects Mr Adoga Ibrahim, in Lokoja on Monday said the beneficiaries would be deployed to all the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state as from Aug. 10.

    According to Ibrahim, Kogi SIP office in conjunction with the relevant stakeholders are working tirelessly to ensure the issuance of deployment letters to beneficiaries for prompt resumption at their Places of Primary Assignments (PPA) on or before Aug. 10, 2018.

    “Posting, data processing and production of deployment letters have commenced since July 23, which will end on Friday July 27.

    “The state partners such as Kogi SUBEB, Kogi Science, Technical Education and Teaching Service Commission (STETSCOM), Kogi ADP, and Kogi Primary Health Care Development are already working hard to meet up with the deadline.

    “The state flag-off ceremony will be performed by Gov. Yahaya Bello on Tuesday July 31, at the Government House, Lokoja.

    “At the event, the successful beneficiaries from Lokoja and other LGAs will collect their deployment letters to their PPA, and will also receive the necessary orientation regarding the workings of the N-Power Programme,” Ibrahim said.

    The focal person noted that the deployment exercise would be performed at the senatorial districts and federal constituencies of the LGAs.

    He said the deployment for all LGAs in Kogi Central would take place at Okene on Aug. 2 and 3, while that of Kogi East would hold on Aug. 6 and 7.

    He added that the remaining LGAs in Kogi West would have their deployment at Kabba on Aug 8 and 9.

    Tthe N-Power Programme is one of the five welfare programmes under the Federal Social Investment Programmes in collaboration with the State Governments, which comprises three sectors: Npower- Teach, N-Pwer-Agro, and N-Power-Health.

    Waterways dredging maintenance will prevent flood- Kogi residents

     

    Some residents of Kogi have observed that the dredging maintenance of the Ajaokuta-Onitsha waterways would reduce flood in the state.

    Some of them, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in separate inteviews in Ajaokuta on Monday, expressed delight about the initiative and commended the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) for it.

    Apart from preventing flood, Mr Adoga Ibrahim, Special Adviser to the state Governor on Multilateral Agencies and Special projects, said the dredging exercise would create employment for the youth.

    “It is a fantastic initiative for Nigeria and for the state and we are really happy about these happenings because it will open up the business potential for our state.

    “We are going to see growth in employment opportunity for our youths, we are happy as this can reduce flood because when the river is dredged, it can flow better,’’ he said.
    Similarly, Mr Yakubu Osani, the Chairman, Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, said the river was connecting 28 states and dredging it would boost the economy of the states.

    “The dredging is so important in the history of the state because looking at the economy aspect of it, it is enormous.

    “The dredging is going to connect several states meaning that the economy activities will be much and Kogi indigenes will benefit a lot from it.

    “If this initiative had been in place, the flood disaster that occurred in 2012 would have been prevented,’’ he observed.
    Similarly, Chief Musa Achuga, Chairman, Ajaokuta Traditional Council, appreciated the government for bringing the initiative which would boost the activities of the community.

    “We thank God that he has brought this progress to us this time around and we are very happy for what is happening today, it is part of progress we are envisaging ,’’ he said.

    Also, Chief Kasin Ibrahim, the head of Ajaokuta, pledged that the community would give full support to ensure that the project was successful.

    “It is a pleasure having this type of project, we have been expecting it, it has come to materialise and we thank the government.

    “The community is giving its full support to ensure that this project completed,’’ he said.

    Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi inaugurated the 162-kilometre waterways dredging maintenance of Ajaokuta-Onitsha on April 29 to be completed in two months.

    Gov. Bello optimistic school feeding programme will succeed in Kogi

    Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi on Wednesday expressed “deep optimism” that the Home Grown School Feeding Programme (HGSFP), would succeed in Kogi.

    The governor, who spoke on Wednesday in Lokoja, at the official flag-off of Stakeholders’ Sensitisation Workshop on the HGSFP, said that government was determined to reap the massive fruits offered by the scheme.

    Bello, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr Simon Achuba, pointed out that children and parents would benefit from the programme.

    In his remarks, Mr Adoga Ibrahim, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Multilateral Donor Agencies, said that the technical workshop was to upgrade implementing bodies on the work plans and the working documents for the HGSFP in Kogi.

    “The HGSFP aims at giving children in public schools, from primary one to three, a meal per day.

    “The meal is fully funded and appropriated for, in the 2016 and 2017 federal budget.

    “All states are supposed to back up the programme with their own counterparts funding to support the operations; our governor has fully backed it up, and even provided a furnished and digitalised staff office.

    “Already, the visiting team from the federal government has certified the state for meeting most of the conditions required for the implementation of the programme,” Ibrahim said.

    Mrs. Abimbola Adesanmi, National Programme Manager, HGSFP, in her remarks, said that the programme provided opportunities to assist vulnerable families to feed their children, while providing an incentive to send them to school.

    “The programme provides a linkage to health and nutrition intervention packages and also enhances community development as the food will be sourced from small holder farmers,” she said.
