Cab driver threatens legal action against Adunni Ade over alleged defamation

The dispute between actress Adunni Ade and Indrive cab driver Francis Njoku has escalated, with the latter threatening legal action against the actress.

The issue began on September 18 when Adunni accused Njoku of taking her package and refusing to deliver it.

She called him out on Instagram, sparking widespread attention and outrage.

After Indrive intervened, locking Njoku’s profile, the package was delivered later that night to the sender, according to Adunni.

However, the driver responded slamming Ade for damaging his reputation.

Njoku claimed Ade’s post smeared his name, stating, “You have made nonsense of my image and I have contacted my legal team and we’ll see you in court. You are not the person who requested the ride. Many human rights activists and lawyers have called me and think I won’t let it go that way. You must render an unreserved apology and ask Instablog to pull the post down.”

Ade responded, sharing screenshots of her interactions with Njoku and fashion designer.

She maintained her innocence, emphasising commitment to honesty.

Adunni wrote: “One thing about me is I do not lie nor cheat my fellow being. When we speak of change, let that change start with you! With the current economic state, everyone is doing what they can to stay afloat irrespective of your finances.

“Slide 1-3 the messages I got from Francis Njoku this morning from a different #

“Slide 4-7 shows when he called me, when I issued access code to gain entry and also when I called to ask of his whereabouts and also to ask why he ended the trip and recorded as delivered. He hung up on me which I called back to question why he would hang up on me. I specifically asked if I had treated him wrongly or spoken to him out of line to which he responded “because I’m telling you the sender imputed the wrong address and you don’t want to listen” I told him it would be difficult to believe him as I was a constant customer and she has sent my orders for years with no issues. I asked why he ended the trip as “delivered “ This was when all hell broke loose. He rambled some more, called me names, asked if I was feeding him? And also for me to come find him and collect the package in a sarcastic manner. I simply ended the call and contacted the designer.

“Slide 8-14 conversation between the designer and Francis Njoku after she learnt he never delivered to me but recorded the trip as delivered on his end. At some point he called to tell the sender she imputed the wrong address that I was at a different location. He requested she should add additional 1,500 before he would agree to complete the request but because she said she could only round up to 5k, he ended the trip and left with my package. Mind you, she truly thought the map took him elsewhere hence why she offered to round up.

“Slide 15-18 shows proof of conversation between @atuchewoman and her sister (she was the one who gave Francis the package from the warehouse) please note @atuchewoman was the one who ordered for @indrive.ng not her sister.

    “Slide 19 is self explanatory.

In my whole adult life of ordering and delivering or using services of logistic companies, I have never encountered anyone as rude, uncivilized, ill-mannered, arrogant, entitled as Frances Njoku.”

However, after 30 minutes, he failed to arrive, prompting Ade to contact the sender, who confirmed delivery had been made.

Ade disputed this, leading to a heated exchange with Njoku, who allegedly became hostile and stopped responding to calls.

She wrote on Instagram: ”@indrive.ng I have contacted you for hours but no response. One of your drivers has stolen my package.

“He ended the trip before getting to me and has refused to pick up. He called me to inform me he was at my estate and needed a code, I proceeded to send an access code.

“Almost 30 mins later, he still had not arrived so I contacted the sender via dm @atuchewoman who confirmed he had delivered.

“I Immediately informed her this wasn’t accurate and proceeded to call him back myself.

“He claimed she imputed a wrong address and I told him this is incorrect as she is someone who delivers to me on a regular.

“I asked why he ended the trip and all hell broke loose from there. He isn’t picking up anymore.

In an interview with Hiptv, Ade acknowledged that every industry has its unique challenges.

“With every industry, there’s ups and downs. I’m grateful to still partake in what I’m doing, still grace everyone’s screen, and hope that I do a great job portraying the character I find myself in. Nollywood is growing and getting the right recognition but it can only get better,” she said.

Ade highlighted her versatility, including speaking multiple languages, and urged filmmakers to look beyond her perceived image.

“A lot of times, maybe I’m being seen as fragile and sometimes it might limit roles that I’m given. I don’t want that. As fragile as I look, I can switch up. If you need me in that ghetto scene, I’m there. My switch game is top-notch. I’m also blessed to speak other languages. I need filmmakers to know that they don’t just stereotype me into certain characters. Call me, if you need me, I’m available. Let’s not think it’s all prim and proper. I can get dirty, if need be,” she added.

“I don’t know if it’s my calling. I just love entertainment. I started as a model many years ago. I sort of just transitioned into me starting with the comedy skits. I wasn’t even back here, yet. I was still in the States. I would just post on YouTube. I got a call from Saidi Balogun, a filmmaker. I flew down and featured on one of his projects. That was kind of what it was, I would always fly down to film and at some point, I just decided to move to Nigeria and just take this up. I just don’t limit myself to acting. At some point, the modelling was coming, more of the influencing gig I transitioned into the film as well and we’re still working. I had the first call in 2011. I think I moved down here in 2012,” she said.

With notable roles in Netflix’s “Tokunbo” and “Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti,” Adunni Ade has established herself as a versatile actress.
