    PalmPay and AfriGO yesterday announced a strategic partnership to boost financial inclusion and boost the country’s digital economy.

    The partnership aims to redefine the payment landscape by issuing over 5 million AfriGO cards to Nigerians. Through this initiative, PalmPay and AfriGO are set to empower underserved communities, drive financial inclusion, and strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy.

    AfriGO Card, powered by Afrigopay Financial Services Limited, a subsidiary of the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), is a homegrown payment solution designed to bolster financial sovereignty.

    By leveraging AfriGO’s infrastructure, PalmPay is creating more payment options by providing solutions tailored specifically to local market needs.

    PalmPay’s commitment to issuing 5 million AfriGO cards underscores its dedication to bridging the financial gap for the unbanked and underserved populations in Nigeria. The AfriGO card, built on EMVCo standards, ensures secure transactions with tokenization and contactless payment capabilities. PalmPay seamlessly integrates these features into its robust digital ecosystem, offering users a frictionless and secure payment experience.

    Speaking on the partnership, Managing Director of PalmPay Nigeria, Chika Nwosu, said the partnership is a further demonstration of the fintech’s commitment to creating financial solutions that promote financial inclusion in the country.

    CBN’s AfriGO joins forces with SecureID on card adoption, financial inclusion

    The National Domestic Card Scheme of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), known as AfriGo, has joined forces with smart card manufacturing company, SecureID, on card adoption and financial inclusion.

    Managing Director, AfriGOPay Financial Services Limited (AFSL), Ebehijie Momoh, spoke when she led the management team on a tour of SecureID’s plant in Lagos.

    AfriGo is a subsidiary of the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc (NIBSS) owned by all licensed banks and the CBN.

    Momoh said: “The cards that our clients issue come from companies like SecureID.

    “There is a huge opportunity to ensure that the AfriGo card is in every Nigerian’s hand.

    “So we can partner with SecureID to drive the adoption of cards.

    “With what I have seen going on around the plant and the production capabilities, I am confident that SecureID is well positioned.”

    Momoh said SecureID’s capacity to produce 200 million cards in a year, its unique certifications and expansion to 22 African countries were things to be “proud of”.

    “This is the kind of organisation that AfriGo is excited to work with.

    “The fact that it is 100 per cent African, just like us, is something we’re delighted about.

    “SecureID is more than just a manufacturing plant; it is a symbol of what Nigeria can achieve with the right combination of government support, private sector innovation, and a commitment to excellence.

    During the visit, the AfriGO leadership observed firsthand the company’s production processes and its capacity to deliver smartcard solutions critical for Nigeria’s financial and digital ecosystems.

    SecureID’s Group Executive, Technology, New Business Development & Compliance, Bami Akinlade, said the company would support AfriGo’s vision with its world-class production capacity, ensuring that Nigeria remains at the forefront of smart card technology in Africa.

    “We are honoured to have the AfriGO leadership at our Lagos facility.

    “More than ever, SecureID remains committed to Nigeria’s economic advancement by providing high-quality, secure smart card solutions, digital and innovations solutions to drive social and economic participation where needed,” he said.

    According to Akinlade, SecureID, led by Kofo Akinkugbe, continues to set the pace in technological innovations as it follows a robust growth trajectory.

    He said the company boasts an impressive capacity to manufacture 200 million cards and a combined personalisation capability of 160 million cards annually, solidifying its position as a leader in the industry.

    SecureID was recently granted a Certificate of Rules of Origin by the National Action Committee on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) during the inaugural shipment under the Guided Trade Initiative (GTI).

    The company is the first certified smart card manufacturing company in West Africa with nearly 20 years of experience in delivering secure, high-quality smart card solutions.
