    Mama Rainbow pays tribute to Charles Olumo ‘Agbako’

    Veteran actress Idowu Phillips, popularly known as Mama Rainbow, has paid tribute to colleague, Charles Olumo ‘Agbako’, who passed away at 101.

    In a video, Mama Rainbow recalled her last conversation with Agbako, revealing he called her on Saturday after returning from the hospital and she offered financial support for his medication but he asked her to wait.

    Mama Rainbow expressed gratitude that Agbako’s passing was dignified.

    “I thank God he didn’t die shamefully. He called me on Saturday to say he was back from the hospital, and I asked him if I should send money for his medication, but he told me to hold on. I didn’t know his death was near”.

    She visited Agbako’s home, sharing fond memories and reflecting on his legacy.

    She went further to write on Instagram: “RIP DADDY after 101 years of life, he leaves behind a legacy woven deeply into our family and friends It’s a remarkable gift to have had him with us for so long—101 years of wisdom, love, laughters, sons and stories that shaped who he was.

    “Baba saw a world that transformed and grew, and he carried those experiences with him like chapters in a book that only he could tell. A life that long is filled with countless lessons, moments of hardship, and times of joy, all of which he likely shared with you in the small ways and big ways that made him unique.

    “His passing marks the end of an era for your family, and though he’s no longer here in body, his spirit remains in every memory he left behind. His strength, his resilience, and the love he showed will continue to guide you and everyone who loved him. Baba rest in peace, held gently by the same love he shared in this world”

    The Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) announced Agbako’s demise through President Bolaji Amusan ‘Mr. Latin’.

    Veteran actor, Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu, popularly known as Agbako is dead.

    He reportedly died in the early hours of Thursday after taking a nap and complaining of slight tiredness.

    President of Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Bolaji Amusan, also known as Mr Latin announced Agbako’s passing on Instagram.

    “TAMPAN Global announces the passing of Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu, fondly known as AGBAKO,” Amusan wrote.

    He also stated that details of the burial arrangements will be shared later.

    Here are things to know about veteran actor Agbako:

    1. He was Born in 1923.

    2. He celebrated 100 on July 20, 2023 in Abeokuta, Ogun State  

    3. He is affectionately called Agbako by movie lovers

    4. He was one of the pioneers of the Yoruba film industry, which later evolved into Nollywood.

    5. He was the oldest actor in the Nigerian film sector

    6. His action roles in Yoruba films, include: Taxi Driver, Jagun, Amin Orun, Aiye, Jayesinmi, Saworo Ide, and Igbo Dudu

    7. His roles in classic films such as ‘Ogbori Elemosho’ and ‘Atorunmo’ cemented his status as a legend in the industry.
