Ex-minister, Agunloye, dumps PDP for SDP

Former Minister of Power and Steel Olu Agunloye yesterday dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Agunloye, a former governorship aspirant of the PDP, said he defected to the SDP because of what he called “power of choice”. The Erusu-Akoko born politician was also an aspirant of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

He left to join PDP shortly after Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) emerged as ACN candidate in 2012.

The former minister who was received into the SDP by the National Chairman, Chief Olu Falae , said he joined the SDP to realise his dream of serving the state.

According to him, “it is from the vantage position of my right to power of choice, my constant and unabated interest in the progress and sustainable development of our state, my perpetual desire for youth employment and women emancipation, all of which have been established over a long period that I see a beacon of hope in the SDP.”

Agunloye said the SDP remains the only party that can proffer solution to the present predicament, dilemma and misfortunes of the people.

He condemned the administration of Governor Olusegun Mimiko, saying the PDP-led government has failed the people with poor power supply, lack of employment, among others.

    • Iorfa preaches caution

Lobi’s goal hero in their 1-0 win over Nasarawa United, Lekan Agunloye has revealed that his goal that served as the match winner for his team has been dedicated to God and his team mates.
Agunloye, an ex-Crown of Ogbomosho striker, said his mates kept encouraging him after his inability to score since joining the club, and he eventually got his first goal for Lobi. Incidentally, it handed all points to his relegation-haunted side.
He expressed belief that his curtain raiser would open the floodgates of goals as Lobi battle on to scoop the needed points to stay in the Premier League beyond this season.
“I am happy that I finally scored my first goal. It has not been easy for me as a striker going to such long games without goal to show for it.
“My team mates and God have been helpful and it is the reason why I am dedicating the goal to them.
“I will keep on fighting harder until we realise our ambition of staying in the elite division next season,” Agunloye said.
His goal in the second half ensured Lobi grabbed all points at the Emmanuel Atongo Stadium, Katsina Ala At, the expense of Nasarawa United in a matchday 29 Glo Premier League tie.
Lobi’s Vice Chairman, Dominic Iorfa also gave God the praise for the win but noted that the preparation for the away tie at Aba must begins immediately if the objective of avoiding the chop from the Premier League is to be achieved.
Lobi stormed out of the relegation zone with the win; they now have 38 points from 29 matches.
In some other matches decided, 3SC drew 1-1 at home to ABS while Akwa United thumped Sunshine Stars 4-0 at Uyo, with Mfon Udoh scoring a brace. Bayelsa United also beat Sharks 1-0 to return to the summit of the league while Gombe United’s Habibu Yinusa’s 57th minute strike gave all points to the Savannah Scorpions at home to Nembe City.
