Don’t blame Tinubu for our challenges in the north – Lukman

Former National Vice Chairman (North West) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Moh. Lukman has exonerated President Bola Tinubu from the gross under-development and various challenges facing the northern part of the country.

He said the region lost it during the 8-year reign of former President Muhammad Buhari, who failed to turn around the region’s fortunes during his tenure.

The former member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the governing party absolved Tinubu in an open letter he wrote to political leaders of Northern Nigeria titled, “Explosive North: Open Letter to Northern Politicians” and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Sunday, June 30.

Lukman complained that the living reality in northern Nigeria today is very explosive.

He said: “If anyone is interested in finding the practical meaning of the Hobbesian description of life being ‘solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short’, just look at what life is in Northern Nigeria. Indices of poverty, unemployment, and inequality are beyond description. The conditions of schools and hospitals are, to say the least, depressing. The civil service, in virtually all the nineteen states, is only a shadow of itself, with hardly any public service activity taking place.

“Our illustrious and respected traditional institutions have been devalued and reduced to a state of hopelessness. Most of our religious leaders and centres are far removed from God’s way of life. Few industries exist in the region. And on account of insecurity, agricultural activities, which is the mainstay of the economy of the region, is highly on the decline.”

He further regretted that the conventional statistical analysis of out-of-school children and several people living in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the region is alarming.

“Not to talk of problems of drugs and substance abuse. The problems of broken homes and abandoned children are quite alarming. As it is, the North is an explosive waiting to explode. We have lost virtually all our homes, our families, and our children. Every person with human feelings should be saddened with the reality of what the Northern part of Nigeria has become. Sadly, even the one strength the North is known for, which is strongly united political leaders, has been lost.

“More than any time in the political history of Nigeria, the North has never been disunited without any semblance of political leadership like we have in today’s Nigeria. Partly, on account of the lack of unity, the quality of political leadership in the North is sharply on the decline. Many so-called politicians are Internally Displaced Persons/Politicians (IDPs), especially once they are out of office. Those in office today are potential IDPs.

“Consequently, the worst among us, with hardly any commitment to resolving the challenges facing the North, find their way to political leadership in the North simply because they can cheaply access elective and appointive offices and control public resources, which is largely mismanaged and privatised.

“Perhaps, the opportunity for Northern political leaders to redeem themselves and return the North to rational order with committed leaders capable of responding to the challenges of the region was blown away during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari. The painful reality was that no leader in the political history of Nigeria gained the kind of national acceptability former President Buhari had at the beginning of his tenure. The closest was Chief M. K. O. Abiola whose election was annulled by the military regime of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.

“More than any Northern political leader, former President Buhari undisputedly won the votes of people from both Northern and Southern Nigeria, which could have been used to produce a new crop of selfless leadership for the country. Selfless leadership is required to put every part of Nigeria on the roadmap to national development.

“Golden eight years between 2015 and 2023 was lost. Instead, the country, especially the North became worse off with a crisis of insecurity taking over everywhere. Problems of poverty, unemployment, drugs, and substance abuse, etc. become almost peculiar characteristics of the Northern region.

“Unfortunately, here we are under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who got the majority of the votes that won him the Presidency from the three regions in the North but seems to be only interested in taking advantage of the lack of unity among leaders in the region. Certainly, not his fault, and if he is uninterested in challenges facing the region, no one, especially Northern political leaders, should complain,” Lukman concluded.

  • As Tinubu’s South African outing gives them content for ‘Elon’s cheque’

As Tinubu’s South African outing gives them content for ‘Elon’s cheque’

Being the Eid-el-Kabir week, last week happened for President Bola Tinubu entirely outside the seat of power. Recall he already left for Lagos to celebrate the festival. The week kicked off on Sunday with the Sallah (Eid-el-Kabir) celebration. The festival, known as Ileya by the Yoruba people, is always marked with big celebrations in the different parts of the Southwest, bringing people of various faiths back home.

The week had its striking moments, events with particularly noticeable activities, and their resulting effects. One of such events was the President’s outing in South Africa. Actually, it was not about what he did or did not, rather the sort of content that some others decided to create out of that rather innocent outing. During the week, Wednesday to be exact, President Bola Tinubu joined other African leaders to grace the second term swearing-in ceremony of President Cyril Ramaphosa in Pretoria.

Speaking about the occasion the next day when his hosted visited him at his hotel in Johannesburg, President Tinubu noted that Ramaphosa’s speech at the occasion captured the current African challenges, which leaders, particularly those of Nigeria and South Africa, must work collaboratively to tackle. “I really enjoyed your speech at the ceremony. I was delighted listening to you. We have lots of issues in common, and we need to work more closely together. It was a good celebration” were his words captured in a statement by his Spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale.

On his verified X handle, @officialABAT, President Tinubu, on Thursday summed up his outing in South Africa, saying “I had the honor of attending President Cyril Ramaphosa’s inauguration in Pretoria yesterday, and today I met with him for a bilateral meeting. Our discussions focused on strengthening cooperation and enhancing the economic ties between Nigeria and South Africa.

“President Ramaphosa’s warm welcome and dedication to mutual respect and cooperation reflect the depth of our relationship. We intend working together to address our countries’ challenges through robust trade and economic strategies, and I am hopeful that we can lead our nations towards increased prosperity and unity. Looking forward to collaborating at this crucial juncture for the progress of our continent”, he said.

Corroborating our President’s narration, the South African Presidency, on its verified X handle, @PresidencyZA, published President Ramaphosa’s submission after the meeting, quoting him as saying “we want to engender good economic and trade relations between Nigeria and South Africa to address the challenges that our two countries face. So it’s been a great pleasure and an honour to have you here, Your Excellency, and that’s why I felt I should come and pay my respects”. That was Ramaphosa’s message to his brother President, Tinubu.

These were the highlights of the two occasions featuring Tinubu in South Africa, however, one of the two occasions seemed to catch the attention of some of our compatriots with spasm. Before that bilateral meeting in Johannesburg on Thursday, the main event had held in Pretoria on Wednesday, a grand occasion by all standards. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by a number of heads of state and government as well as official representatives of some other countries. Our President attended as one of the invited heads of government to the event. However, proceedings at the event somehow became a content source for some of our compatriots, something to pour out on by a certain category of Nigerians.

Almost immediately after the ceremony, an opposition figure and an associate of Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Aisha Yesufu, took to her YouTube channel, recorded a video, which she posted on her verified X handle, @AishaYesufu, claiming that President Tinubu was snubbed by his host and also pushed back from the from row. She seemed her post would garner comments and likes from people who share same feeling and political view with her.

Before long re-tweets, likes/dislikes and other forms responses started trailing Yesufu’s post, it became a huge content in the media, especially on the social media platforms, even beyond that day. It formed topics for discussions, as a matter of fact, it became a topic for some groups, especially Obidient groups, to discuss on various social media platforms.

What she must have also expected were some of the reactions and comments that would not agree with her claims. A particularly revealing and bubble-bursting reaction was from O’tega Ogra, Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Digital/New Media. Ogra, who is acquainted with presidential protocols as well as what actually went down in Pretoria, responded almost immediately to the 8:31 minutes-long video by Yesufu, putting a lie to her claims and revealing she had pushed out untruths and manifest ignorance, doing so with video and pictorial evidences.

“Aisha has the constitutionally guaranteed right to express yourself, but your consistent display of crass ignorance and shameful behaviour, seemingly aimed at garnering likes and retweets, in the name of your disdain and hatred (which you profess at any given opportunity) for Nigeria is shameful to say the least.

“For the record: (1.) That first row at today’s inauguration was reserved for South African kings/royalty. (2.) The South African President wasn’t expected to start greeting dignitaries at the time of the video you shared and he was respectfully recalled to the podium by the inauguration compere (see video below). (3.) Immediately after President Ramaphosa finished the anthem, he went ahead to greet the visiting presidents who were all seated in the second row (similar to the way visiting presidents were seated in the third row during Nigeria’s own inauguration on May 29, 2023 – see pictures below)”, Ogra said in the response posted on his verified X handle, @otegaogra.

After all the hullabaloo about Tinubu being snubbed by Ramaphosa at the inauguration ceremony, the South African President made it better for those wondering what really happened, (who should be believed between Yesufu, those who swallowed narrative hook, line and sinker, and those who felt she was only playing with people’s intelligence with outright falsehood and ignorant claims), by travelling 58.2 kilometres from Pretoria to Johannesburg to meet with his Nigerian counterpart, hold a bilateral meeting, during which they both agreed on issues of mutual interest, requiring their collaboration and cooperation. How do you visit someone you allegedly snubbed on your big day?

He definitely put a lie on the claim that did not just slight Tinubu and Nigeria, but depicted his administration and country in bad light. Matter sorted, but not without giving those who live on social media content something to glean from Elon Musk. To borrow Ogra’s summation of Yesufu’s intent: “with or without your personal enmity, Nigeria will succeed. I truly hope you receive your ‘Elon Cheque’ in full this month”.

Besides the Wednesday /Thursday’s development in South African, the President had a full week of real activities. On Sunday, which was the Sallah day, he observed the Eid prayers with other senior officials of the administration, as well as Lagos’ political class, after which he sent his Sallah message to Nigerians, urging citizens to embrace the spirit of sacrifice, love, and charity, especially towards the vulnerable. He also emphasized that citizenship comes with responsibilities, including loving one’s country and neighbours, and sharing resources with others.

It was also Father’s Day and in his message to all Nigerian fathers, himself being one, he saluted all those who fill that role for their sacrifices and resilience in shaping the country’s future, noting that society is in better stead because of fathers’ sacrificial responsibility. He acknowledged the significance of the day, which honours all fathers, living and deceased, for their role in guiding children and instilling values like discipline, integrity, and service. He praised fathers as “true heroes” who work tirelessly to provide for their families, describing their commitment as a “bounden duty” to positively shape the destinies of the next generation.

Then on Tuesday, still as part of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, he received representatives of the National Assembly, led by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio. It was another opportunity to pass a strong national restructuring message to citizens: If we must achieve a working nation, we as citizens have our own role that must not be shirked. Though much is expected from leadership, the citizens must also ensure their part is not left unattended.

“The need (for some citizens) to change the rent-seeking mindset and become more productive to the economy is a challenge. The need to stop smuggling and all economic sabotage”, he urged, adding “why should we have people removing rail tracks and all that, stealing electric cables and sabotaging the economy? We must embrace the campaign to change our value system. We must tell our people that the challenge we face is for all of us to change our mindset about our country.

“Yes, there is poverty; there is suffering in the land. We are not the only people facing such, but we must face our challenges. We must find a way to eliminate banditry and terrorism so that farmers can bring out food from the farmland. If you do not have good roads to bring the food to the population, even if you grow the food and you are losing 60-70 percent to damages, you will pay the price”, President Tinubu said.

There were other occasions that saw his celebrating with some Nigerians for reasons of celebration, and there were also occasions to mourn those who lost loved ones. For instance, on Wednesday and Thursday, he celebrated the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, for their birthdays respectively. In like manner, on Monday, Wednesday he mourned one-time Chairman of the Old Oyo State Civil Service Commission, Chief Oluremi Ademola Atanda; a long-reigning traditional ruler in Southern Kaduna, Dr Tagwai Sambo; and the mother of former President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, Chief Florence Morenike Saraki, respectively.

He also attended the Jumat Mosque in Area 1 on Friday, where a special anniversary prayer session was held in honor of his mother, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, and inauguration of construction of 330 boreholes across the country in her honor. During the session, there was also recitation of the Holy Qur’an.

Although he returned to Abuja from South African on Thursday, the new week is actually going to be the first active working week since after the Sallah holiday, which ended last Wednesday. Many activities are expected, including a possible Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting. Let us watch if content creators will have something new and juicy to feast on.

  • National Assembly to transmit South East Dev Commission Bill to Tinubu for assent

National Assembly to transmit South East Dev Commission Bill to Tinubu for assent

The National Assembly will anytime soon transmit the South East Development Commission Bill to President Bola Tinubu for assent.

This followed the adoption of the conference report of the SEDC Bill by the Senate at plenaries on Tuesday, June 11.

The adoption of the report followed the consideration of the conference committee report on the Bill presented at plenary by the chairman of the Senate Committees on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters, Senator Mohammed Monguno (APC-Borno North).

The Bill titled: “A bill for an Act to establish the South East Development Commission charged with the responsibility of among other things receiving and managing funds from allocation of the federation account for the construction and rehabilitation of roads, houses and other infrastructural damages suffered by the region as a result of the civil war as well as tackle the ecological problems and any other related environmental or developmental challenges faced by the South-eastern part of Nigeria and for related matters 2024. The bill was read the third time and passed” was passed by the Senate on February 22, 2024.

The Bill seeks to establish the SEDC to manage infrastructural development such as the construction and rehabilitation of roads, houses, and others in the southeastern region.

The agency will also be empowered to tackle the ecological problems and any other related environmental or developmental challenges in the region.

The commission is expected to receive and manage funds from the allocation of the Federation Account to execute infrastructural projects in the South-east when established.

The agitation for the establishment of the commission started many years ago.

The Bill to establish the commission was passed by members of the 8th Senate but former President Muhammadu Buhari did not assent to it.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, and some other lawmakers from the south-east reintroduced the bill in the lower chamber last year.

The House passed the bill last December and transmitted it to the Senate for concurrence.

Following the adoption of the report by the Senate, the Clerk to the National Assembly is expected to transmit the Bill to President Bola Tinubu for his assent.

  • Kano Emirship tussle: Northern youths seek Tinubu, ECOWAS’s intervention

Kano Emirship tussle: Northern youths seek Tinubu, ECOWAS’s intervention

Northern Youth Assembly (Majalisar Matasan Arewa) on Sunday, May 26, called on President Bola Tinubu to wade into the impasse surrounding the ongoing conflict on who is the lawful Emir of Kano.

Reinstated Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and recently deposed Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero are presently laying claim to the throne, thereby fueling tension in the Emirate with fears that the situation may degenerate into chaos and anarchy.

The group in a letter to Tinubu urged the president to be wary of some people in his government planning for anarchy in the state.

The letter was also copied to the United Nations Office, Abuja European Union Embassy, ECOWAS, Abuja, US Embassy, Abuja, British High Commission, Abuja, US Congress, US and the European Union.

The letter dated 25th May 2024, was signed by Dr. Ali Idris, president, and Dr Garba Abdulhafiz, secretary general of the association.

The youth argued that the change in the emirate law in Kano State was a product of the law by the Kano State House of Assembly, stating that any attempt to subvert such law by Abuja may result in chaos.

The letter reads in part: “The leadership of the Northern Youth Assembly (Majalisar Matasan Arewa), on behalf of its chapters in the Nineteen Northern States and Abuja, has, at the moment found it compelling to draw your attention, as a democratically elected president, in the country, through a constitutionally prescribed process, with defined powers and privileges, regarding the recent development on Kano Emirate.

“It is common knowledge that Nigeria as a country that practices federalism has a constitution which prescribes the powers for the central Government as well as the sub-national government which equally represents the lawfully recognized federating units.

“Apart from the powers provided by the Nigerian constitution of exercising legislative authority by the States Assembly at the sub-national level, is to make laws for the betterment and welfare of their State as well as their citizens.

“The process to exercise this constitutional right may include: making new laws, amending the existing laws and repealing the existing laws.

“The Kano State House of Assembly, in 2019, exercised such powers by amending the Kano State Emirate Councils Laws and created four additional emirates, and the law was subsequently assented by the then Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

“The current Kano State House of Assembly, equally exercised such legislative powers by repealing the same law and dissolved the newly created four additional emirates in the State, and the Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, equally assented to the new repealed law.”

The youths alleged that there is an unprecedented effort and evil plan allegedly designed by some influential persons to violently and forcefully impose the deposed Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, on the people of Kano, using the federal government’s security apparatus, under the pretext of complying with a court order granted by one Federal High Court Judge at a time when he was far away in the United States for a holiday.

“This is nothing but a broad daylight encroachment on the constitutional democratic practices, undermining the authorities of the sub-national and federating units, and a clear interference in the exercise of their constitutional powers.

“This ugly development is not only an embarrassment to your Government, but your personality as someone who has always portrayed himself as a Democrat.

“Our fear is that your Government and its appointees may be seen as people who do not have respect for democratic governance, practices, and constitutional authority.

“We wish to draw your attention at this juncture that, Kano has been peaceful, and any attempt to disrupt the peace in the State, by heeding to the interest of some few selfish and greedy people against the wishes of over 20 million people of Kano, may lead to chaos and anarchy.

“This may likely portray your Government in a bad light, as one government that works to sabotage democratic authorities, by usurping the constitutional rights, authorities, and powers of the sub-national democratic structures.

It may as well invite enmity against your nascent Government by the people of Kano, as well as the entire people of Northern Nigeria, as anything that touches Kano, touches the entire Northern Nigeria,” the group added.

  • Tinubu’s unified exchange rate yielding positive results, says APC chieftain

Tinubu’s unified exchange rate yielding positive results, says APC chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, Hon Olatunbosun Oyintoloye, said the strategic policy of President Bola Tunubu, on the unification of exchange rate has started yielding positive results.

Oyintiloye, a former member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council(PCC), said this while speaking with newsmen on Sunday in Osogbo.

The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as part of measures to control inflation and stabilise the naira last month raised its benchmark interest rate, known as the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) by 200 basis points to 24.75 percent from 22.75 percent in February 2024.

The former  lawmaker, who noted that  although the policy initially led to unsavoury experiences for Nigerians, said that the  experience of the past few weeks was an indication that the initiative was beginning to have positive impact on the nation’s economy.

The APC chieftain said the rate at which  the naira had been appreciating against the dollar at both parallel and official markets was commendable and a huge relief to Nigerians.

He added that the current growth in the nation’s economy would make it attractive to foreign portfolio investment, stabilise price, and check inflation trend.

Oyintiloye also commended the Central Bank of Nigeria for the successful clearance of $7 billion  Forex backlog, noting that this will continue to stabilise the exchange rate.

He maintained that the liberation of the foreign exchange market and the continuous appreciation of naira would unlock the huge potentials for investment and restore investors confidence in nigeria’s economy.

He appealed to Nigerians to continue to exercise patience with the president, assuring that things will continue to get better.

“The strategic policy of President Bola Tinubu, on the unification of exchange rate has started yielding positive results.

“With the steady appreciation of naira in the last few weeks, we can begin to say the worst is over.

“In the next few months, we will continue to reap the benefits of the tough economic decisions that was made by the president.

“This will clearly proof to us that the president meant well for all Nigerians in all his economic policies.

“The way the naira is fast appreciating against the dollar and other currency is amazing and I know we will soon be benefiting from it.

” The Renewed Agenda of the president will be fulfilled and Nigerians will surely laugh last”, he said.

Oyintiloye also  called on Nigerians to reduce their appetite for foreign goods to fast-track the growth of the nation’s economy.

He said Nigeria as a nation must also cut its dependence on foreign goods, increase local production and enhance entrepreneurship.

The APC Chieftain noted that  these would help to strengthen the Naira which was under too much pressure.

” By importing, we are simply developing the economies of the countries we buy from through job creation, value chain maintenance, capacity for product development and other spin-off effects of production.

“We have to feed our population and depend less on importation to fast-track development of our country,” Oyintiloye said.

According to a document obtained by The Nation and signed by the Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, Chidi Amadi, the extension is to stabilize the ongoing process of repositioning the administrative structure of the FCT Civil Service Commission.

  • Tinubu directs creation of youth unemployment benefits

Tinubu directs creation of youth unemployment benefits

President Bola Tinubu has directed the creation of a Social Security Unemployment Programme where unemployed

youths will be paid to ease economic hardship.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists at the State House, Abuja, after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) presided

    over by President Tinubu.

He said: “At this period of heightened food prices, Mr. President has committed to doing all that can be done to assist in giving purchasing power to the poorest and in that line, he has committed and instructed that the social security unemployment programme be devised, particularly to cater for the youths, for the unemployed graduates, as well as the society as a whole. So, we have coming, in the nearest future, an unemployment benefit for the young unemployed, in particular.”

The Minister also informed there were plans for setting up of a consumer credit scheme to alleviate the pains of economic adjustment.

“Finally, all in the same line, to emphasise that there is empathy. And there is feeling for those who are less well off, or feeling particularly the pains of this adjustment, there is coming a social consumer credit programme.

“So, by making consumer credit available, of course, goods become more affordable, the economy even gets a chance to revive faster, because people have purchasing power that allows them to order goods, products,” he stated.

Edun also spoke on the review carried  out by the Special Presidential panel on the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), which has submitted a preliminary report to the president.

He informed that President gave the highlights to the Council meeting noting that what was done was “a review of the existing mechanisms, a review of the existing programmes, and where there have been successes, such as the 400,000 beneficiaries of the GEEP programme, and so on and so forth.”

He said: “Those have been identified and recognised. School feeding programme is another example of relative success and whilst there is still some further work to be done, particularly, as regards availability of the financial data, which is still being looked at, the interim report has been submitted and a key recommendation of the panel was that, especially given the heightened, limited household purchasing power at this time, rising prices, particularly elevated food prices, it’s important to restart the programme.

“So, the direct payments to 12 million households comprising, 60 million Nigerians, is to resume immediately with the important proviso that every beneficiary will be identified by their National Identity Number (NIN) and the Bank Verification Number (BVN). Therefore, payments will be made into bank accounts or mobile money wallets so that whether it is before or after, there is verification of the identity of beneficiaries.

“Each person that receives 25,000 Naira for a total of three months will be identifiable, even after they have received the money, it will be clear who it went to and when it went to them. And that is the big change that has allowed Mr. President to approve the restart of that direct payments to beneficiaries programme.”

Relocate NNPCL, NIMASA, NPA to Niger Delta, Nabena begs Tinubu

Former member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Yekini Nabena, Wednesday, January 24, implored President Bola Tinubu to approve the relocation of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to the Niger Delta region.

He also asked for the relocation of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to the Niger Delta area.

The federal government had indicated interest in moving part of CBN and FAAN to Lagos State for the efficiency of its activities.

The development has however generated a lot of debates in support and against it, especially by the Northern elite and leaders.

Reacting to the move to relocate the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to Lagos, in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, the former APC deputy national publicity secretary also said that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development should be moved to Benue State where agricultural produce is in abundance.

The APC chieftain said: “If the efficiency of these agencies is the main reason for the plan to relocate them to Lagos State, we from the Niger Delta are also asking that the NNPCL, NIMASA, NPA and others will be more effective in either Bayelsa, Rivers or Delta states.

“In the same way, the Federal Ministry of Mine and Steal should be moved to Kogi state where we have the Ajaokuta Steal for efficiency.

“I also believe that the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment should either be relocated to Kano or Anambra states where trade is done in high proportion. In the same way, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture should be taken to Benue State, the food basket of the Nation.”

According to Nabena, the issue of oil companies relocating to the oil-producing Niger Delta region had been debated severally in the Nigerian Senate with the companies not heeding the calls.

“The Senate had asked International Oil Companies (IOCs) to relocate their headquarters to the Niger Delta region to fast-track the host communities economic development but some powerful interests in Lagos are preventing this for their selfish interests.”

  • Tinubu calls for global tax system review

Tinubu calls for global tax system review

President Bola Tinubu has called for a  comprehensive review of the global tax system because of its imbalances.

Tinubu argued that the interests of wealthier nations predominantly influence the international tax regime to the detriment of developing economies.

He spoke  during the Third South Summit of the Group of 77 and China in Kampala, Uganda at the weekend.

Tinubu,    represented at the event by  Budget and Economic Planning Minister Abubakar Bagudu, emphasised Nigeria’s commitment to multilateralism in addressing global challenges.
