    Kaduna governor appoints SSG, aides

    Kaduna State Governor, Mukhtar Yero, has appointed Alhaji Ishaq Dan’Mahawayi as the new Secretary to the State Government.

    A statement by the Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Saidu Adamu on Thursday in Kaduna also announced four new aides for the governor who was making his first appointment since assuming the position on December 16 last year.

    The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Dan’Mahawayi takes over from Alhaji Samaila Yakawada, who was appointed SSG by late Governor Patrick Yakowa.

    The new aides include Alhaji Yahaya Abdullahi, who replaces Mr. Aboki Galadima as Chief of Staff and Alhaji Aliyu Samaila, who takes over from Mr. Yohanna Alamagani as the governor’s Principal Private Secretary.

    The statement added that Mr. Abdullahi Maiyaki was appointed Director-General, Media and Publicity to the governor, while Malam Madami Garba replaces Alhaji Bala Garba as Special Adviser, Political Affairs.

    It also said that Mr. Nathaniel Hayab would remain as Head of the state Civil Service.

    All the appointments are with immediate effect.

    The last guest at yesterday’s burial of Pa Tamunoobebara Douglas, the father of Mr.Oronto Douglas, Special Adviser to the President on Research and Documentation was yet to depart the sleepy village of Okoroba when news spread of the crash of the helicopter carrying some of the eminent guests.

    Lost to the crash were Governor Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna State, the immediate past National Security Adviser (NSA), General Patrick Azazi,Mr.Dauda Tsoho, a friend of Yakowa,Warrant Officer Mohammed kamal,Commander Muritala Muhammed Daba who piloted the helicopter and his co-pilot, Lt.Adeyemi Sowole.

    Unexpectedly, a hitherto joyous occasion soon turned into sorrow. The village was thrown into mourning. There was wailing. There was gnashing of teeth. Men cried as did women.

    It was hard to believe that a ceremony that had begun on Friday with a novelty football match, traditional wrestling and a colourful wake keep could turn tragic.

    Apart from Yakowa and Azazi,others at the burial included Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, an Ijaw leader, Chief Joshua Fumudoh, National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) , Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, entertainment guru, Mr.Ben Muray Bruce, prominent businessman, Mr. Oba Otudeko, Information Minister Labaran Maku, Labour Minister Emeka Worgu and Chief of Staff to the President Mike Oghiadomhe.

     

  • Falana calls for oversees treatment for Suntai’s aides

    Rights activist, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), yesterday urged the Federal Government to ensure that all those with Taraba State Governor Danbaba Suntai when his aircraft crashed last Thursday near Yola, the Adamawa State capital, get overseas treatment like the governor.

    The frontline lawyer spoke in Lagos at the fifth law and social development lecture of Bamidele Aturu and Co.

    He noted that what is good for the goose is also good for the gander.

    Falana said the other victims are no lesser Nigerians than the governor, adding that they too should be given adequate attention and care, like the governor.

     

  • Governor’s aides moved to National Hospital

    About 24 hours after Taraba State Governor Danbaba Suntai was flown to Germany for the treatment of the injury he sustained in last Thursday’s plane crash, three of his aides, who were also injured in the crash, were yesterday taken to the National Hospital in Abuja.

    The aides were receiving treatment in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

    They include Suntai’s Aide de Camp (ADC) Dasat Ilia; Chief Security Officer (CSO) Timo Dagana and the Chief Security Detail O. Jewel.

    The governor’s aides were brought to the hospital from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, in two ambulances.

    They were accompanied by armed security personnel and a long convoy.

    The three of them were taken to the Accident and Emergency Ward.

    A senior management source at the hospital, who spoke in confidence, confirmed the transfer last night.

    Mimiko sacks three aides

    Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko yesterday sacked three of his Special Assistants.

    A statement by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, said the affected aides are: Adesoji Ojomo, Chris Anota and Kayode Agunloye.

    The statement said Mimiko took the decision following reports that the political aides neglected their duties and that this had negative effects on government activities.

    The statement reads: “There have been various reports concerning the activities of the sacked aides, which negate the principle of the Olusegun Mimiko administration.

    “There have been reports of the activities of the aides, which cast aspersions on the government and portray it in bad light, hence their dismissal.

    “Three aides were dismissed for dereliction of duty, absconding and engaging in acts that cast aspersion on the government as well as portray it in bad light.”

    The statement added that their dismissal takes immediate effect.
