Aigbogun to Enyimba players: Forget Wikki loss

Enyimba head coach Paul Aigbogun has charged his players to remain focused and put behind them their loss to Wikki Tourists ahead of their NPFL Match Day 19 tie with Nasarawa United in Makurdi.

Aigbogun disclosed that he still found it hard to understand what led to their 1-3 loss in Bauchi but that with lots of matches still to be played, they should not lose their sights of them because of the defeat to Wikki.

He reminded his players that focus and steadfast should be their watchword as they tackle the Solid Miners with their sights on not losing another game in Makurdi on Sunday.

Enyimba are third on the log with 30 points from 17 matches and are still with a game at hand against Abia Warriors.

    Aigbogun satisfied with Enyimba’s win

Enyimba coach Paul Aigbogun has expressed his satisfaction with his team’s 2-0 home win over Shooting Stars at the Umuahia Township Stadium in a rescheduled NPFL encounter on Wednesday.

Abu Azeez and Joseph Osadiaye goals handed the seven-time Nigeria champions to a comfortable win against the Oluyole Warriors to move out of the relegation zone. However, despite taking maximum points from the game, Aigbogun feels the People’s Elephants still need to improve.

“It was important not to concede and we controlled most of the game. In the second half we noticed the wear and tear from the weekend’s game at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium but it’s nice to have the three points ,” Aigbogun told Goal.

“Of course, there are things that need to be improved on, although it’s logical that people expect us to perform at a very high level. The most important thing was three points and I’m grateful to God that it became a reality,” he added.

Enyimba’s Paul Aigbogun has affirmed that the People’s Elephant were just more than delighted to scoop the available three points based on what they experienced prior to the NPFL Week 8 tie played at the Umuahia Stadium on Thursday  against Plateau United which they won 1-0.

Joseph Osadaiye’s 30th minute strike was what the Aba giants needed to dislodge hard fighting Plateau United on Thursday and Aigbogun whose wards returned from Burundi for a CAF Champions League first round tie against Vital’O two days before the cracker said he knew the match would be tough.

Enyimba returned from Bujumbura on Tuesday night and had their preparations for the league tie in the Burundi’s capital where they trained on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning before embarking on the flight to Nigeria later that night and arriving in the late hours of Tuesday.

They didn’t have time to train at the Umuahia Township Stadium at all on Wednesday because the rightful owners of the pitch-Abia Warriors played against Wikki Tourists that same day but Enyimba’s players were businesslike from the beginning of the match till the very end and defended the one goal lead netted in the first half till the end of the match.

Aigbogun who crossed over to Enyimba from Warri Wolves at the start of the current campaign told Goal that the club would play better over the weekend in Enugu when they play as guests of Enugu Rangers in a NPFL Week 9.

Aigbogun told Goal:  “We were just fine with the three points. We knew it won’t be easy but we never expected that Plateau United would push us this hard. We will work on errors noticed when we face Rangers in Enugu on Sunday.”

The 1-0 home win-Enyimba’s second of the season after four games lifted the league reigning champions to 17th on the log with six points.

Forget the Charity Shield, Aigbogun tells Enyimba

Enyimba FC Coach, Paul Aigbogun has downplayed the importance of the NFF Charity Shield after his side lost out on penalties 4-3 to Akwa United.

Enyimba enjoyed the numerical advantage for 25 minutes as the clock wound down to a shoot out. Regulation time did not produce a winner and the score had to be settled from the spot.

However though, downplaying what has been a poor start to in his second spell at the club, Aigbogun said of import to the League champions is securing a passage to the next round of the CAF champions league after the 1-0 first leg defeat at the hands of Vipers SC.

The Coach however admitted his team is short in the attacking department, after a poor return of goals from the new recruits at the club in pre-season.

Aigbogun: We are going to give a 100%

Head coach of Enyimba Paul Aigbogun says the team will give a hundred percent when they play Ugandan champions Vipers today in a CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg fixture.

In an exclusive chat with EnyimbaFC.net, Aigbogun said he and his boys had prepared adequately and will give a good fight come match day.

“One thing I’d say is that we are going to give 100 per cent,” he said. “It’s a CAF Champions League game and it’s big, but I believe by God’s grace we would come out with a result that will make everyone happy.”

He said he wasn’t under pressure going into his first competitive game with the two-time African champions. “I’m not bothered, I am not under pressure. Given the time scale, we prepared as best as we could for the game. We are focused and we will go out on Friday and give everything we’ve got.

“It may be my first competitive game with the team but it’s not an issue. This is a club very experienced on the continent and a lot of the players here have been in big games, so there’s no issue.”

Reacting to suggestions in the Ugandan press that Vipers were plotting a major upset for their more fancied opponents, Aigbogun said: “It’s more important what we do than what the other team is saying. I’m not reading about what’s coming from the camp of the opponents. It’s what we do here that matters. My focus in on our team and a good result, nothing more.”

Aigbogun: Champions League is Enyimba’s target

Enyimba head coach, Paul Aigbogun has disclosed that he is looking beyond the Glo Premier League Super Four as the People’s Elephants fine-tune preparations for the CAF Champions League preliminary round duel against Vipers of Uganda.

Aigbogun, who marshalled his boys to a 1-0 win over Warri Wolves on Monday in the Match Day Four fixture of the pre season Super Four, told SportingLife that he won’t be bothered about the club’s performance in the current tournament but is focusing his attention on the Champions League.

Aigbogun told SportingLife: “I can’t say that we will win the Super Four because I don’t have a magic wand to look at it. My main aim is not to come here and win the Super Four. My target is to come here and get us ready for the Champions League but if along the way we get to win it, it will be great.”

Enyimba rose to the top of the Super Four on goals difference with seven points from four matches same as second placed Akwa United.

Coach Aigbogun: Super4 is perfect preparation for Enyimba

Glo Premier League champions, Enyimba International FC of Aba surrendered a first half lead to draw 1-1 with Nasarawa United in a fixture that exposed their match fitness and tactical frailties which Coach Paul Aigbogun said is one of the benefits of participating in the Glo Premier League Super4 tournament.

Responding to media questions after the team picked a one all draw with Premier League second runners-up, Nasarawa United FC at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, Coach Aigbogun said he was naturally disappointment that they failed to win but said it was their first top flight pre-season friendly match.

Joseph Osadiaye scored the opener for the People’s Elephant midway through the first half from a well drilled free kick, before Phillips Azango equalised following a goalmouth scramble after one of the many free kicks conceded by Enyimba in the dying minutes of the game.

“We are not fully prepared at this point for the continental outing but we still have three weeks to go so we will be ready. I’m not satisfied with the performance of my team, we started the game very well, but we gave the game away in the second half.

“Having played just four or five matches against smaller teams, this was our first top flight friendly and I believe we will improve. I’m ok with some aspects of our play and equally not happy but our starting was good. We are here to compete to the best of our abilities and see what we can do. We should come up well,” the coach said.

Speaking on the game, Enyimba International captain, Chinedu Udoji expressed disappointment that couldn’t defend their lead, thus losing the opportunity of starting the tournament on a winning note.

“I feel disappointed that we conceded a late goal to draw the game. We will go back to correct the mistakes. Our focus is on the continental competition for which we are under pressure to do well this season to go as far as the group stage which we have failed to achieve in the last three seasons. We don’t want to be seen as failures but we will take the competition step by step, play the first game and prepare for the next one,” Udoji wrapped up his post-match chat.

  • Warri Wolves slam Aigbogun

    Warri Wolves slam Aigbogun

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club, Warri Wolves have criticised former coach, Paul Aigbogun over what they perceive as a lack of commitment from him.

Aigbogun joined Enyimba as head coach following the departure of Kadiri Ikhana who reportedly fell out with the management of the Aba club.

Wolves chairman, Moses Etu says Aigbogun’s body language was not right for most of last season.

“We (Wolves) actually asked Paul Aigbogun to leave because we had very good reasons. He was busy negotiating with other clubs even when he had a contract with us and that was not right. Sam Okpodu has been appointed as his replacement and we are sure he will do a good job,” Etu told supersport.com.

Meanwhile, Aigbogun has dismissed the allegations levelled against him describing them as “baseless.”

“I am shocked the Wolves people will say these things because I served them with total commitment while I was head coach of the club. The thing is my contract ended at the conclusion of the last football season.

“As it is the norm all over the world, interested clubs had discussions with me but that was after my contract had run out. Also there was no management board in place at Wolves at the time and even when I spoke to (former Wolves CEO), Davidson Owumi, there was really no headway made,” he said.

Wolves and Enyimba (Aigbogun’s present employers) will represent Nigeria in the 2016 CAF Champions League.

  • Enyimba target Dobrev, Aigbogun as Ikhana’s replacement

    • Want Biffo as chief coach

League champions, Enyimba FC have reportedly set it’s sights on making either  former Gabros technical adviser, Mitko Dobrev or Warri Wolves technical adviser, Paul Aigbogun as their new coach should Kadiri Ikhana be sacked.

Ikhana led Enyimba to the league champions at the end of the 2014/2015 season but reports have it that the Peoples Elephants could announce Ikhana’s departure this week.

SportingLife scooped from the team’s camp in Aba that the management has already set machinery in motion to get in touch with the coaches in question to know about their availability for the  job.

The Bulgarian coach, Dobrev managed Gabros International before he was relieved of his job when the club was taken over by IfeanyinUbah FC. He was a former coach of another Glo League side, Heartland FC of Oweri as well as Accra Hearts of Oak coach, Ghana.

His knowledge of African football is believed to have caught the attention of Enyimba FC’s management who poised to make a bold statement in the CAF Champions League next season.

Should the move for Dobrev fail, SportingLife gathered, Aigbogun could be the only alternative for the 7th time league champions as they aim for the third continental trophy.

Aigbogun had recently expressed uncertainty over his future at Warri Wolves next season.

Aigbogun, who is currently on holiday with his family in London, guided Warri Wolves to the second position on the log and picked a CAF Champions league ticket.

Warri Wolves were ravaged with unpaid wages last season which affected their programmes as players on several occasions threatened to boycott their league matches.

If Aigbogun thinks of the way he managed Warri Wolves last he could have a re-think in staying with Seasiders for another season.

However, SportingLife also understands that Niger Tornadoes head coach Abdullahi Biffo has been contacted by Enyimba FC with a move to make him a chief coach with a substantive wages.

Biffo, who guided Tornadoes to top division from the Nigeria National League last season, recently signed a new one year deal with Minna-based side.

Nigerian champions, Enyimba of Aba, will kick-off their CAF Champions League campaign against Vipers of Uganda in the preliminary round.

The Ugandan champions will host the first leg of the encounter before they fly to Aba to keep a date with Enyimba two weeks later. The winner will take on either lioli of Lesotho or Vital ‘O from Burundi in the next stage of the competition.

Aigbogun uncertain about Warri Wolves’ future

Warri Wolves head coach, Paul Aigbogun is still in a state of dilemma if he will continue with the Seasiders next season or whether he would walk away, SportingLife has exclusively gathered.

Aigbogun delivered the most sought after CAF Champions League ticket to the Seasiders on a platter after overseeing an effortless campaign in which Warri Wolves were a fortress from the beginning till the end of the season.

But the coach, who has since left for England to visit his family whom he has not seen for close to one year, told SportingLife from London that he does not know if he would be with Warri Wolves next season.

He was evasive with words but assured SportingLife that his position would be made known in the coming weeks.

When Sportinglife quizzed the Britain trained coach, he said:”I don’t know yet. Let’s see what will happen. I don’t know about that yet.”

SportingLife however contacted the Media Officer of Warri Wolves, Moses Etu to seek his view on the comments credited to Aigbogun, he stated that he is absolutely certain that the head coach and his lieutenants would remain with the club next season.

He said even though the Seasiders only signed a season contract with all the members of the technical crew at the beginning of the season, the management is willing to extend the coaches’ contract to give room for continuity.

Aigbogun and his backroom staff led Warri Wolves to second on the league table with 66 points from 38 matches but they couldn’t qualify for the Federation Cup from Delta State after their elimination in the quarter-final of the State FA Cup to a lowly rated team.
