Ahead of the 2026 governorship election, the National Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Bashiru, has warned party members against using agitation for zoning governorship ticket to split the party..
Basiru, during a stakeholders meeting held at the APC state secretariat in Osogbo, urged aspirants for the governor’s seat to campaign only with their profile and not by sentiment or zoning.
He said: “I want to caution every one of us against using zoning agitation to polarize our party ahead of the election; it may not augur well for us. Anybody that wants to contest should use his personal profile to enter the race.

“I, Ajibola Bashiru have a rich profile that puts me in the frontline to lead the state. I am eminently qualified to be the governor of this state. I served as a Commissioner two times, I don’t have any blemish, if I did, they would have filed a petition against me.
He highlighted that he had occupied several political positions and he had performed well without blemish, hence he could lead the state.
“I served as a Senator and I was even appointed as the spokesperson of the Senate. God counted me worthy as our leaders in the party unanimously agreed to make me the National Secretary of the party.”
