NICO: Political leaders, legislators will be trained on Nigeria’s cultural values – Ajiboye

The newly appointed Executive Secretary/CEO of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Otunba Biodun Ajiboye has disclosed that the Institute under his watch will focus more on training political leaders, legislators, diplomats, military and para-military leaders in Nigeria.

This is in line with one of the Institute’s objectives of serving as a focus for orientation in cultural matters for Nigeria’s policymakers and other government officials.

Otunba Ajiboye who was recently appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside 10 others to take over leadership of parastatals in the Ministry of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, arrived at the Institute’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, January 17, and held a closed-door meeting with management staff.

According to him, NICO has a lot of responsibility, particularly in the area of cultural training where more attention should be channelled to leaders of thought to ensure that all political leaders in the country get exposed to cultural orientations that will reignite our values in them.

He said: “We need to reactivate the idea of training and make it more profound among political leaders and legislators. We will take it to Mr. President to give us support and find a way to get through the leadership of the National Assembly to recognize that fact. These are the kind of training that we need; training that will lead to a change of attitude, national cohesion and change of behaviour among the citizenry.

“It is important for us to get our cultural values right because it is one of the most important psychological ways to fight societal decadence and get citizens to be more behaviorally responsible. So, I am more interested in training military leaders; I am more interested in training legislators; I am more interested in training a college of trainers because we need to first inculcate in them the right culture and none of them should go without receiving our cultural training.”

Further stating that without ingraining “our cultural values into our day-to-day life, we are likely to miss our compass for cultural righteousness as a nation, the Executive Secretary identified societal behaviour as a backlash of lack of cultural values and decadence in youth behavioural outlook as results of the loss of our cultural values.”

He therefore maintained that acquainting our political leaders, diplomatic leaders and military leaders with our core cultural values will go a long way in achieving our quest for national development.

He said:  “Culture remains the national image that everybody wears and we need to find a way to get it right so that the entire country will come to a point of appreciating our culture which can be achieved through collaborative exercises with the Federal Ministry of Education; National Orientation Agency (NOA) and other relevant agencies of government.”

While receiving briefs from Directors and Head of Units, Otunba Ajiboye said one of his topmost agendas will be upgrading the office environment to a first-class environment.

He added: “We need to first of all find a way to reconfigure the office environment and see how the cultural training aspect of the Institute’s mandate can be more boisterous and energetic than it is. If the environment is not proper, there is no way you can work well. What I am seeing here does not look like a first-class environment. When it becomes first class, people will work better. I am from the private sector and I understand what is called work ethics. If a man does not have a conducive environment and tools to work, how do you expect him to perform?

“You must agree with me that I have my premeditated vision and what I want to achieve. I came here with the vision to achieve something. The person that brought me here didn’t bring me here for the sake of bringing me here, he has brought me here to be able to achieve a set of objectives and since I cannot do it without you, it will be very important that we are on the same page.

“I don’t see this appointment as government work. I see it as my work so if anybody feels it is government work, that person may not be on my page. I take it as my work because if it pleases God that I should be here at this time, it might as well please Him that I do my best.

“I want all of you to know that I don’t work with failure. I have never failed in any given assignment and this one will not be an exception. Some of you may think otherwise but I have a reason to say I must succeed. I am more interested in making success in this place, so our aspirations must be the same for us to be on the same page.”

  • Alampasu, Ajiboye won’t be in Russia- Rohr

Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr has hinted that Plateau United goalkeeper, Dele Ajiboye and Feirense starlet, Dele Alampasu will not be included on the 23-man roster for the 2018 World Cup.

The German stated that Alampasu is inactive at his Portuguese club, while Ajiboye has not been selected in the latest squad because he was given the chance to displace Ikechukwu Ezenwa as the number one goalkeeper in the African Nations Championship team and could not do so.

”They already had their chance, remember that we invited Dele [Ajiboye]. Dele is number two in CHAN team and it’d be surprising that he is number one and Ezenwa will be number two in the Super Eagles,” Rohr was quoted as saying by Goal.com.

”Alampasu, unfortunately, is not playing. You cannot take a goalkeeper who is never playing. Uzoho made his debut for Nigeria against Argentina and did very well. He plays for the second team of La Coruna; we could see him [at the World Cup]. Ezenwa was injured but he is returning gradually and he’s played with the second team at his club already. We’ll see who will be the fittest.”

Former U-17 World Cup winner Dele Alampasu has not played a league game in Portugal since April 30, 2017 when he went the full 90 minutes in Cesarense’s 3-0 loss at águeda.

Ajiboye excited to wed heart-throb Folashade

Plateau United goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye has said his life will now be complete when he takes as wife Folashade Olohunsogo in Ibadan on Saturday.

“She is the mother I never really had because my mother died 16 years ago,” he revealed.

“She has been everything to me since I met her.”

Folashade is a graduate, who is now self-employed.

Ajiboye has been given compassionate leave by high-flying Plateau United to organise his wedding at the Premier Hotel Central Mosque in Ibadan this weekend.

He therefore missed his team’s goalless draw at Gombe United on Wednesday and will also miss Sunday’s home game against Abia Warriors.

“I am with them in spirit and always try to keep in touch even as I am away in Ibadan now,” he said.

Ajiboye has represented Nigeria at U17, U20 and Olympic team levels.

Warri Wolves order Ajiboye, Osanga to forgo 5 months’ pay and go for free

Relegated Warri Wolves have ordered several top stars like Dele Ajiboye and King Osanga who have quit the club to forfeit their outstanding salaries if they were to be allowed to join other clubs.

Monday Osaige, Kelvin Njoku. Kelvin Itoya, Sikiru Alimi, John Odumegu, Semiu Liadi and Solomon Okpako are some of the other top stars who have quit Wolves.

Ajiboye disclosed he has spoken to Delta State Sports Commissioner Tony Okowa, who demanded that the goalkeeper let go his five months’ salaries so that he could be given his clearance.

“I spoke to the commissioner, Tony Okowa and he told me that I need to give up my salaries before Warri Wolves will give me my release letter,” said the former Shooting Stars and Nasarawa United goalkeeper. But I won’t because I worked for my money and I need it. I played for Warri Wolves with injury and pains and now they are saying they will not pay me for all those months I worked.

“I also need my letter of release for me to formally join Plateau United. If that will not be forthcoming, I will take my case to the NFF and LMC because they simply want to cheat me.”

Ajiboye also claims Wolves are yet to pay him an agreed N3 million for his clearance when he joined them last season.

    Ajiboye dismisses Remo Stars rumours

Warri Wolves goalkeeper, Dele Ajiboye has denied reports linking him with a move to newly promoted Remo Stars by insisting he has no idea about the move to the club.

“I’m totally surprised about this and it is new to me. I have not talked to any official of the club about a proposed move. Some personal agenda has made me busy for now and that’s where my concentration is,” Ajiboye told Goal.

“In as much as Remo Stars is a club with ambition, there are other things on my mind and therefore there is no iota of truth in the report. If there is any serious interest from clubs in the NPFL be sure of getting the hint. For now I need to think of other things after the hectic season.”

    Ajiboye sad over Wolves’ defeat

Dele Ajiboye has insisted that Warri Wolves remain strong and united despite their performance so far in the 2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) campaign.

“The team is annoyed for the loss, we have learned from the result. We will improve in training and prepare well for the next game against Wikki Tourists,” Ajiboye told Goal.

“Wolves should be as high as possible to fight for the continental places. What we have to do is be a team and fight in every game until the last minute.

“Confidence and togetherness is paramount in the team. The team is strong and united and we must continue with the mentality to win. We will give everything that we have in our hands.”

The Seasiders currently occupy 15th spot on the table off a disappointing 2-0 loss against Niger Tornadoes.

Ajiboye hopes Warri Wolves bounces back

Dele Ajiboye is confident that Warri Wolves will return to winning ways after their 2-1 loss against Enugu Rangers on match day 24.

“We lost against Rangers, but the focus is already on our next match against Kaduna United. An impressive result in the game against Tornadoes could spring a turnaround ahead of other matches,” Ajiboye told Goal.

The Seasiders have won just one of their last five matches in the Nigeria Professional Football League this season. However, Ajiboye has appealed to fans to be patient with Wolves and that very soon the team will rise and assume their proper place on the log.

Warri Wolves are 13th on the log with 30 points from 23 matches are poised to tackle Niger Tornadoes who are 15th on the log with 29 points.

Ajiboye hails Wolves’ win over Abia Warriors

Warri Wolves goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye believed it was important his side responded, following their inconsistent form in the season.

Wolves have sealed consecutive victories in four days in the 2016 Nigeria Professional Football League campaign.

A second-half strike from King Osanga helped the Seasiders halt the 10-match unbeaten run of Abia Warriors as the hosts won 1-0 in a rescheduled NPFL tie at the Warri City Stadium on Thursday.

“I think we played well against MFM FC and ended up winning the game on Sunday. It was important to consolidate today (Thursday) against Abia Warriors who are a very strong team,” Ajiboye told Goal.

“There’s great movement in this team and everyone is comfortable with the ball. That’s what the manager is encouraging us to do – play with freedom in the final quarter of the pitch.”

Thursday’s victory moved Wolves up to ninth in the Nigeria Professional Football League table.

Warri Wolves: Ajiboye deserves Eagles’ call

Warri Wolves chairman, Moses Etu has made case for the inclusion of former junior international, Dele Ajiboye into the Super Eagles after the goalkeeper’s sterling performance in the NPFL for the Seasiders from the pre- season till now.

Etu disclosed that Ajiboye’s sharp reflexes and impeccable saves have been the saving grace of Warri Wolves in the league and on the continent and that he sees no reason the goalkeeper won’t be called up to the Eagles team.

He said Ajiboye can compete with Carl Ikeme and Daniel Akpeyi without any stress and that it would save cost to appreciate one of the products of the NPFL that has been performing at a high level.

“Ajiboye deserves Super Eagles’ call up. He has been very outstanding for us and he is the current best keeper in the league. He should be given a serious consideration. We need to appreciate our own better. He can compete favourably with Ikeme and Akpeyi. He deserves our attention,” Etu told SportingLife.

Ajiboye was fantastic for Warri Wolves during the Super Four in Kaduna and Uyo and his impressive saves have kept Seasiders’ goals conceded away from home low since the commencement of the league season.

Ajiboye vows to cage Nasarawa Utd

Warri Wolves goalkeeper, Dele  Ajiboye has said that he would do everything within his reach to ensure that he doesn’t concede a goal against his former club, Nasarawa United today in the last match of the Super Four pre-season tournament, if he gets to taste action.

The Solid Miners defeated the hurriedly assembled Seasiders 1-0 in Kaduna during the first leg of the Super Four but Ajiboye told SportingLife that Warri Wolves have trained more together now and are better equipped to face the Lafia side than the initial game.

He said that Warri Wolves players who resumed training barely three weeks ago have started taken the shape of a team now and that before the CAF Champions League tie a true reflection of their hard work thus far will be revealed.

“I am looking forward to the match with keen interest. They got lucky in Kaduna during the first leg because we resumed training barely a week before the start of that tournament but we are in shape now and will be ready for them. For me personally, I will ensure I do not concede a goal,” Ajiboye, who was the hero of the 2007 FIFA U17 World Cup in Korea Republic which the Golden Eaglets won, told SportingLife.
