    Council empowers 550 residents with cash

    Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Akeem Dauda, has empowered 550 residents with cash grants and empowerment packages, as part of his administration’s commitment to grassroots’ development.

    He said that the empowerment is for artisans, pensioners, youths, startup entrepreneurs, physically challenged persons, and low-income earners.

    “This programme is not a political gesture, it is an investment in our people, our economy, and our collective future,” he said.

    He urged the recipients to utilise the funds to boost their productivity and multiply their value.

    According to him, newly completed road projects – Shanu and Balogun streets –demonstrated his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and stimulating commercial activities.

    Council Manager, Taiwo Odubeko, praised Dauda’s leadership, describing it as transformative, with notable improvements in service delivery, infrastructure, and institutional growth. “Every project executed and every policy implemented reflects a shared commitment to the Ikeja Agenda and the Renewed Hope vision,” she said.

    APC Lagos State Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, commended Dauda’s performance, attributing the progress to improved federal allocations and reforms initiated at the national and state levels.

    He urged residents to continue supporting the APC, ahead of the 2027 elections.

    Deputy Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adedamola Kasunmu, expressed confidence that Dauda would achieve even more before the end of his tenure.

    One of the empowerment beneficiaries, Oluwatoyin Salaudeen, expressed gratitude to the chairman, saying the cash support would significantly boost her business.

    Ikeja chair to champion fight against drug abuse

    The Chairman of Ikeja Local Government Area, Akeem Dauda, has marked this year’s International Youth Day with commitment to youth empowerment, skill acquisition, and the fight against drug abuse.

    According to Dauda, his administration prioritises education, employment, and active youth participation in decision-making.

    “When we assumed office, the first thing we did was to start an all-day job initiative to keep our youths off the streets and productively engaged,” he said.

    He said that a three-pronged strategy and advocacy will take place in schools to raise awareness on drug abuse.

    He added that collaboration with the state government for rehabilitation, and partnerships with relevant agencies will commence to curb the sale of drugs in the community.

    He commended Ikeja youths for their low involvement in crime, stressing that the fight against substance abuse must continue.

    He said the all-day job programme, which was initially designed for 200 participants, has already enrolled 250 youths, with another 200 set to join by the end of the month. Plans are also in place to expand partnerships with skill acquisition centres to equip young people with practical and entrepreneurial skills.

    “Our message to the youth is clear, we want collaboration, support, and energy. They are not only the leaders of tomorrow but also the bridge builders of today.”

    Coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in the council, Blessing Omodafe, lauded the council boss for the initiative.

    “The interactive session gave us the opportunity to engage directly with leaders, learn, and develop new skills. The chairman is a lover of youth, and I believe he will continue to push us forward,” she said.

    Ikeja organises holiday job scheme for 230 youths

    The Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Akeem Dauda, has launched a two-month holiday job programme aimed at engaging and empowering over 200 secondary school students and undergraduates during their school break.

    The initiative, which enrolled 230 participants, was designed to reduce youth idleness, promote discipline, and provide mentorship to young people through direct involvement in local government operations.

    Each participant will receive a stipend of N20,000 for their efforts at the end of each month.

    Dauda emphasised the importance of guiding the younger generation and giving them a sense of purpose.

    “We realised that many of our youths are on the streets during the holidays, playing football or just wasting precious time. So, we felt it was important to bring them into our system through holiday jobs. This way, we give them direction from the grassroots and teach them how to lead from scratch,” he said.

    He also urged the participants to be disciplined and professional in their conduct.

     “They must obey, be neat, and wear the symbol of Ikeja Local Government with pride. They are now ambassadors of this local government,” he added.

    According to the council boss,  the goal is not only to occupy young minds productively but also to shape future leaders through real-life work experience and exposure to civic responsibility.

    One of the beneficiaries, Bolaji, a student of Lead University, expressed appreciation for the opportunity.

     “I applied to improve my knowledge, especially in language learning.

    This programme empowers both undergraduates and teenagers. It’s truly the best opportunity for future planners like me,” he said.

    Another participant, Afeez Bakare,shared how the initiative is helping him use his waiting period productively while seeking academic placement.

    “It’s helping us build confidence and improve our interaction with people. I thank the chairman for setting this up just a few days into his administration. It shows he cares about the youth,” he said.

    Dauda unveils Ikeja Agenda for development

    The newly elected Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Akeem Dauda, has unveiled a five-point agenda designed to drive growth and development across the council.

    Tagged: Ikeja Agenda, Dauda said the plan focuses on infrastructural development, knowledge-based initiatives, environmental improvement, social justice, and accountability.

    “When we started our campaign, we have five agendas. We call it Ikeja Agenda. It has to do with infrastructural development, knowledge-based, environment, social justice and accountability. That’s our goal and agenda and that’s what we will be driving for the people of Ikeja”, he said.

    Speaking on security under the social justice pillar, the council boss noted that his administration plans to work closely with security agencies and residents to improve safety within the area.

    “Under social justice, we are going to assist the security agencies with some support. We also intend to do what we called ‘When you see something, you say something.’ We also want to go on enlightenment campaign. We want to enlighten the community to own security of their community. So that when they see a stranger, they invite or call the police for assistance. That’s what we want to do in our security,” he added.

    Dauda assured that the Ikeja Agenda would serve as a guide for development efforts throughout his administration.
