Akeredolu’s prophetic declaration set tone for my emergence, says Aiyedatiwa

Ondo state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has expressed sadness that his predecessor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, was not alive to witness his inauguration as governor of the state.

Late Akeredolu had in 2021 said he would go down for Aiyedatiwa to go up.

Governor Aiyedatiwa said Akeredolu’s public and undisguised prophetic declaration set the tone for him to succeed Akeredolu.

Aiyedatiwa spoke shortly after he was sworn in as the seventh Executive Governor of the Sunshine State.

Security was beefed up around the Akure metropolis and the Akure township stadium where the event was held.

Vehicular traffic was diverted from major streets in Akure.

Many residents of the state stormed the stadium to witness the event.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, who paid tributes to the founding fathers of the state, said he was pained that “this great leader who saw tomorrow is not here with us to witness and servour this auspicious occasion which marks the fulfilment of what God spoke through him.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa said he has demonstrated commitment to the development and welfare of the people despite the political division and crisis brought about by the sickness and eventual death of Akeredolu.

He noted that his new development policy thrust tagged O’DATIWA O’ DIRORUN, which translated to “OUR EASE” was carefully designed to drive sustainable development and improve the quality of life for the citizens.

According to him, “We have no illusion that the task ahead of us is daunting, but we are confident with your continued support, cooperation, and loyalty, we can navigate this journey together, we can overcome any obstacle. We must pursue your welfare vigorously and work tirelessly to sustain peace and security, revitalise our economy, and cause accelerated infrastructural development of the Sunshine State.

“Our administration will continue to foster a harmonious working relationship with the legislative and judicial arms of government, recognizing that our collective success depends on collaboration, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to the well-being of our populace.

“As we embark on this journey together, the importance of peace and stability in our State cannot be overemphasised. Development, as we all know, can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace.

“We shall provide a level playing ground for all to maximize their God-given potential while creating an enabling environment for all to optimize the countless opportunities that abound in our State.  Let me assure you that nobody will be discriminated against on account of political, cultural, religious, gender, or ethnic propensities.”

The wife of Governor Aiyedatowa, Oluwaseun, proved naysayers wrong as she was presented at the event alongside her children.

Aiyedatiwa’s wife had been absent from the state for some months before her husband emerged as Governor in December 2023.

She did not return to play the role of a First Lady.

Meanwhile, Governor Aiyedatiwa freed 43 convicts to celebrate his inauguration.

He ordered the outright release of eight persons who were previously incarcerated.

The Ondo Governor commuted death sentences on 15 inmates to various prison terms while 20 other convicts serving life imprisonment have their sentences adjusted to more lenient terms.

    Akeredolu’s kinsmen deny endorsing Aiyedatiwa

Kinsmen of late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Owo and Ose Local Government Areas have denied endorsing Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the party’s candidate ahead of the forthcoming primary election.

They said the report claiming APC leaders in Owo and Ose have endorsed Aiyedatiwa was egregiously fallacious, patently deceptive and misleading.

The Owo/Ose APC leaders said the event that transpired in Owo was a gathering of Aiyedatiwa’s loyalists for a political meeting, as evidenced by those present at the event.

A statement by Fatai Olushina and Elefola Solomon said those at the gathering that endorsed Aiyedatiwa previously opposed Akeredolu’s interest in the state.

The statement said a genuine consensus to endorse a candidate within the Owo and Ose APC chapters would be championed by renowned and steadfast leaders, whose political acumen were well recognized.

“Footage retrieved from the event highlights the local government party chairman’s refusal to publicly endorse Aiyedatiwa, which led to an obvious awkward situation. This unfolding spectacle is as amusing as it is troubling. We remain vigilant of Aiyedatiwa’s escalating desperation and his campaign’s attempts to manufacture endorsements across the state

“Our resolve is firm in Owo and Ose, and within the broader APC family, to not let misrepresentations prevail. The loyalists of the late Governor Akeredolu’s leadership in Owo and across the state stand united in their rejection of Aiyedatiwa’s tactics to secure the party’s nomination. It is well documented that Aiyedatiwa’s treatment of the late Governor was profoundly inhumane and deeply callous.

“We refuse to honour such betrayal and cruelty with our party’s endorsement. As we await guidance from our revered leader and father, President Bola Tinubu, we are committed to exposing the deceit and mendacity of Aiyedatiwa and his cohort of betrayers.”
