    Onigbinde, Olowookere set for coaching jobs in Osun

    Former Doma United head coach, Akinade Onigbinde, is set to take charge of Osun United ahead of the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

    With the new campaign fast approaching, the Osogbo-based club has intensified its preparations and is keen to secure promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

    Onigbinde, widely respected for his tactical acumen and focus on youth development, impressed during his tenure at Doma United. His appointment is expected to inject fresh ambition and experience into the Osun United setup.

    The management believes his arrival will help shape a more competitive team capable of challenging for top honours in what promises to be a tough NNL season.

    In a related development, Osun Babes are finalizing the appointment of Bankole Olowookere, current head coach of Nigeria’s U17 women’s team, the Flamingos, as their new manager ahead of the 2025/2026 NWFL season.

    Olowookere, known for his calm leadership and tactical intelligence, recently guided the Flamingos to the second round of the ongoing FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

    Club sources reveal that the deal is all but completed, with an official announcement expected soon. The management is confident that Olowookere’s experience in nurturing young talents will bring stability and success to the team as they aim for a strong NWFL campaign.

  • Onigbinde urges adequate funding of sports clubs

    Akinade Onigbinde, Coach of FRSC FC of Abuja, has called for adequate funding of sports clubs in the country to boost the performance of Nigerian clubs, especially in international competitions.

    Onigbinde said that inadequate funding was inimical to the development of the country’s football league.

    He said that welfare of some clubs in Nigeria had been reduced to the lowest level.

    “Some of our clubs even travel by road to far away countries for matches.

    “And some even squat with others in hotels because of poor funding for accommodation,” he said.

    The coach, who described the trend as a threat to football in Nigeria, said it had retarded the progress of the game.

    Onigbinde urged the Federal Government to galvanise policies for football development.

    According to him, it is time to adequately fund clubs, especially representatives of the country in international competitions.

    Enyimba of Aba was thrashed 2-0 on July 29, by Williamsville of Cote d’Voire in the ongoing CAF Confederation Cup.

    Enyimba, who now has six points, had earlier beaten their Ivorian counterparts 1-0 in the first leg in Port Harcourt.

    CHAN 2018 Fallout: Improve on speed Onigbinde advises S/Eagles

    Akinade Onigbinde, Coach of FRSC FC, Abuja, on Monday said that the home-based Super Eagles also known as CHAN Eagles had reasons to improve on speed in order to confront faster teams like Morocco in future matches.

    Onigbinde told our reporter in Abuja that the Moroccan side was more tactical with accuracy in passes than the Nigerian side.

    He said that the home-based Eagles allowed their Moroccan counterparts to dominate and dictate the pace of the match in all departments.

    The coach explained that it was imperative for Nigeria to begin to improve on their deficiencies through early preparations.

    “What we need now is to start preparations as early as possible so that we can correct our mistakes.

    “There is need for speed to be developed or the ability to confidently calm pressures from teams with high velocity like Morocco in future,’’ Onigbinde said.

    He, however, commended the Nigerian team for keeping clean slate all through the group stages, saying they were good.

    The coach noted that victory and defeat was unavoidable, adding that the Salisu Yusuf-tutored boys had done Nigeria proud with Nigeria’s first ever Championship of the African Champions (CHAN) finals.\

    Take Algeria match very serious, Onigbinde tells Super Eagles

    Akinade Onigbinde, the coach of FRSC Football Club of Abuja, on Thursday called on the Super Eagles to see Friday’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Algeria as an all-important match.

    Onigbinde said this in Abuja that this would help them get a good result which would then elevate the team in the FIFA ranking.

    He said the match was capable of either improving or negatively affecting the country’s position in the global football ranking.

    “The match should be taken very serious in order not to drop on the FIFA ranking.

    “Also, the way we play against Algeria will impact positively or negatively on our friendly with Argentina,” Onigbinde warned.

    The coach described the Nigeria/Algeria match as a determinant for Nigeria’s preparations for the World Cup, and urged the players to shun laxity and complacency.

    “The Eagles must go all out to crush Algeria with all it has as a formidable team.

    “I also believe that the match against Algeria is more important than the one against Argentina, because it is the warm-up against Argentina,’’ he said.

    The coach said the team should not succumb to pride or over-confidence, adding that this could result in concession of defeat.

    The Super Eagles will face Algeria in Constantine on Friday in their final match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

    FRSC FC Coach advises CHAN Eagles to improve on current form

    Akinade Onigbinde, the Coach of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) FC, on Monday called on the CHAN Super Eagles to improve on their current form to ensure victories in the future.

    Onigbinde, who made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja while congratulating the team on its qualification for CHAN, said their form was impressive.

    “We have a better midfield, defence and attack; in fact, the team is truly a team now.

    “I advise the team to improve on their performance and present form for more good results,’’ Onigbinde said.

    The coach said that Nigeria’s chances at the CHAN were clear with the team’s current form.

    He urged the team to continue to make Nigeria proud, adding that soon the country would take its pride of place in football.

    The CHAN Eagles beat Benin 2-0 on Aug. 19 in the second leg match to qualify for CHAN.

    NAN reports that the team, having beaten Benin 2-1 on the aggregate will participate in CHAN to be hosted by Kenya in 2018.
