    Akpabio denies fake X handle

Senate president, Godswill Akpabio on Friday, September 29, denied operating an X handle (formerly Twitter) being credited to him.

Akpabio in a statement by his special adviser (media and publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, titled: “Disclaimer Notice:- Beware of Parody X Handles – Akpabio” raised the alarm over the alleged existence of Parody X Handles “purported to belong to Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate.”

The statement reads in part: “The offending Parody X Handles are bearing “Senate President Godswill Akpabio @ oficialGAkpabio” with various messages on the proceedings of the Senate President Godswill Akpabio at plenary sessions.

“For clarity, the verified X Handles of the President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio are “President of the Senate @SPNigeria…Official account of the office of the President of the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria” and @Senator_Akpabio, which is his personal account.

“The Senate President therefore denounces the Parody X Handles and urges the public to disregard them. All X Handles other than the official, authentic, and verified X Handles of the President of the Senate are unauthorized.

“The Senate president is not unaware of some elements who must have created these Parody X Handles, apparently to use it for the dissemination of fake news and information that would cause public disaffection and ill will.

“However, the Senate President wishes to assure well-meaning Nigerians that no amount of distraction and mischief will make him abandon the cause of offering genuine leadership to the 10th Senate and collaborating with the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to drive the Renewed Hope Agenda and reset the country so that the common man will enjoy the dividends of good governance.”

BREAKING: Akpabio seeks support as Senate resumes plenary, moves into executive session

The Senate on Tuesday, September 26, resumed plenary after its six weeks annual vacation.

Senate president, Godswill Akpabio led a procession of principal officers into the chamber at about 11.40 a.m. after which he said the opening prayers.

He welcomed senators from vacation and called for their cooperation to enable the 10th Senate to move the country forward.

Akpabio said that though their opinions may differ their common purpose is to work for the welfare of their constituents and indeed the entire country, appealing to all aggrieved lawmakers to sheath their swords and cooperate with his leadership.

He insisted that the progress the country requires at the moment could only be achieved in a state of unity.

Akpabio said: “I welcome you from vacation and I sue for the spirit of cooperation and unity among us as it is through such discussion that we will achieve the best outcomes for all Nigerians.

“Be reminded that though our opinions may differ our common purpose is about the welfare of our constituents. In the coming days and weeks, we will address pressing issues, debating, legislating, and striving to forge common grounds and move our nation forward…”

The Senate thereafter dissolved into an executive session for further deliberation.

A cursory look at the Order Paper for the day shows that the screening and confirmation of Olayemi Cardoso for appointment as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria was top on the agenda.

The order paper also showed that four deputy governors of the CBN would also be screened and confirmed for appointment.

The red chamber also planned to screen and confirm, at the committee of the whole, the appointment of four new deputy governors.

The CBN’s deputy governor designates include Emem Nnana Usoro, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor, and Bala M. Bello.

  • Akpabio’s hundred days

    Akpabio’s hundred days

Godswill Akpabio is a specimen for the theatre. He once confessed if he had another life, he would be a comedian. But his comedy has been sublime, if controversial at times. He has been all his career. As governor, as senator and a minister. He is not going to be different as senate president. He has chewed up his first hundred days, and one of the most fascinating in the history of this republic.

Few will ever forget how he emerged. The night before the contest, many thought the prize would go to former governor Abubakar Yari, his followers clucking like a cock. The day after, Yari lamented like a jilted lover over treachery. Akpabio had his burped like one after a lush meal. His triumph was more interesting than Saraki’s that came through the backdoor. It was nail-biting and when Akpabio clutched it, he glowed without a gloat.

He brought some cheer to the grueling ministerial nomination process, and played a role to calm a restive labour union and showed grit in stirring the house away from a war in these tempestuous times. However, for me, it is his sense of generosity that makes one know he wants to run the august assembly with malice towards none. He himself ensure that respectable committees went to his foes like Yari and Aminu Tambuwal. There is a lot of work ahead, and he will need his reserve of humour and open-mindedness to navigate the headwinds ahead.

Tinubu steering Nigeria through turbulent waters, says Akpabio

The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration is steering the country through troubled waters, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has stated.

He spoke on Saturday at a retreat for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly held in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.

Akpabio however assured the President and Vice President Kashim Shettima that they would not walk alone.

He said the 10th National Assembly will walk hand in hand with them to take the ship of state to “harbors of bliss and development.”

Akpabio said: “The Vice President of our dear country, Your Excellency Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, thank you for honoring the leadership of the National Assembly with your presence in this retreat.

“We know that the executive arm is steering our country through turbulent waters. The mark of a great sailor is not how he fares in calm waters; it is in how he powers through the rough seas.

“If His Excellency Senator Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and your good self must take the ship of state to harbors of bliss and development, then you must steer us out of the sheltered shore, through the rolling waves and stormy gales, and set the sails to weather every storm, safe in the knowledge that you are not alone.

“Tell Mr. President, that the leadership of the Tenth National Assembly (and by extension the entire National Assembly) says that he will never walk alone.”

Akpabio said the President Tinubu-led executive and the National Assembly has been destined to “give hope to our nation.”

He said: “My dear colleagues, when John the Baptist heard about the works of Jesus Christ, he sent his disciples to ask him, ‘Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?’

“It was not a religious question; it was a generational and rhetorical question. This question defines the hope and expectation of every nation, every people, every group, when change occurs.

“This is the question in the streets and highways of our dear country; ‘Is this the government that should come, or do we look for another?’

“The follow-up question is, ‘Is this the National Assembly that should come or do we look for another?’

“We believe that this is the government that should come to change the fortunes of our country. We believe that this is the National Assembly that should come to change our destiny.

“We believe that this National Assembly has come to give hope to our nation. There is an Italian proverb that says that the right man comes at the right season.

“We believe we, the members of the National Assembly, have come at the right season.

“As the leaders of the Tenth Assembly, we must remember that the success of a leader depends on the achievements of the led.

“We must not only be worthy leaders but also dealers of hope for the entire membership of the National Assembly in particular and our nation in general.”

He called on the leadership of the National Assembly to be united and of one purpose in proffering solutions to the myriad of challenges confronting the country.

He added: “Check the history of the world and you will discover that the world has always been changed by a few thoughtful, patriotic, selfless, concerned citizens armed with faith and conviction.

“They led the charge, the masses followed.

Friends and colleagues, we can lead the charge in our country.

“Let us be united in purpose. It does not matter which political party you used to get to the Red or Green Chamber, right now we are in the Nigerian boat.

“If we all put our hands on deck, the Tenth Assembly shall surmount every challenge. It is in our hands to make this Assembly the last hope of the common man or the lost hope of the common man.

“The choice is ours. As leaders let us see every problem through the broad windscreen of national interest; not through the tiny side mirror of politics. Let us be the symphonic voices of reason; not the raucous echoes of tribal or religious sentiments.

“My friends and colleagues, let us not make the mistake of thinking that our problem is APC or PDP or LP or SDP or any other party.

“That is an error.  We face a collective action problem because relevant groups and stakeholders in our country fail to connect, cooperate and collaborate. But if we, the leadership of the Tenth National Assembly, can properly understand and effectively use collective action processes in the official conduct of business, we would achieve positive outcomes for our country.

“As leaders of those who represent our people, it behooves us to set collective action templates for our nation’s developmental efforts, and a collaborative legislative agenda for solving our nation’s challenges.

“A template that would eschew such issues in collective action problems like the tragedy of commons, senselessly exploiting common resources and depleting them; free riding, being inordinately concerned with consumption and not production of our wealth; information asymmetry, hoarding information in order to have an imbalance of power; and opting for sub-optimal equilibrium where we could go for agenda setting.”

He noted that the retreat seeks to identify priority business for the Tenth National Assembly and develop strategic objectives for the Legislative Agenda of the respective chambers.

He added: “I believe our first priority, as leaders, should be people. We represent people whose pains we should alleviate; whose concerns we should address; whose hopes we should not betray.

“Therefore, listening to the people in order to feel pulse of our nation should be a critical component of our legislative agenda. But, no matter the problems we face let us never forget that what is morally wrong cannot be politically right.

“The National Assembly must be seen as partners-in-progress with the Executive Arm and we must create the enabling legal environment for Mr. President to justify the confidence reposed in him and his vice president by the electorate.

“We must remember that in every democracy, the legislators are the foot-soldiers marching for the masses.

“We are also here to share experiences, bond with each other and have candid exchanges on critical issues before the National Assembly.

“I urge us to be frank and open because a chain is as strong as its weakest link. More so, the candle does not lose anything by lighting another candle.”

  • No move on new social media law, says Akpabio

No move on new social media law, says Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said the 10th National Assembly may not make any move to make laws for the regulation of the social media.

He said there are laws already in place to take care of infractions from users of social media platforms.

Akpabio urged users of social media platforms to utilise them for positive productive engagements for the development of the country.

The Senate President said the country needs to keep pace with emerging technologies for the benefit of all stakeholders.

But he stressed said African countries need digital future that is inclusive, secure and innovative, adding that this should be the focus of all.

Akpabio made the remarks at the opening of the Parliamentarian Symposium of the African Internet Governance Forum (AIGF) with the theme: Transforming Africa’s Digital Landscape: Empowering Inclusion, Security, and Innovation, holding at Transcorp Hotel in Abuja.

The event was organised with the support of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The Senate President expressed confidence that the commitment of African Parliamentarians would ensure and deliver progress that represents the people’s aspirations.

He noted that their coming together was aimed at initiating internet governance and digital policies and legislations to boost the sector.

“This theme is a reflection of the deepest yearnings of all Africans for a concerted effort to keep in step with the rest of the world in the ICT race,” Akpabio said.

Speaking through the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Cybersecurity and ICT, Afolabi Shuiab Salisu, the Senate President said emerging technologies cannot be taken in isolation of one and another.

He said existing laws should be allowed to take care of them.

Akpabio said it would be cumbersome to have laws on usage of the social media, another one on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and internet fraud.

The Senate President stressed that the country already have constitutional provisions to take care of breaches in any area.

He said: “I am not sure that there’s going to be any specific Bill on social media regulation. However, there are many laws in various areas; the social media is just one space.

“So, rather than have a specific legislation on social media, I will rather say social media is just one platform: the same way people have used regular media platform to commit libel, defamation, or sedition. So, they will be taken care of.

“Thank God, there was a court judgment somewhere, where a thumbs up has been acknowledged as approval for business deal between parties. So, I don’t need to sign documents physically now before it becomes valid.”

  • Akpabio’s 100 days of uncommon leadership

Akpabio’s 100 days of uncommon leadership

Frank, assertive but unassuming, President of the 10th Senate, Godswill Obot Akpabio, has always cut the figure of a determined and purpose-driven leader wherever the mantle of leadership falls on him since his burst into the political limelight in Akwa Ibom State as Commissioner in charge of three different ministries in 2002.

It was that emblematic assertiveness and affable disposition that made most Nigerians celebrate his emergence as the President of the Senate in a keenly-contested election on June 13, 2023, with majority of the people concluding that the emergence of the two-term Senator would be a great blessing to the National Assembly, the Presidency of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigeria as a whole.

One hundred eventful days down the line, that conclusion about the Akpabio Senate Presidency has not only been justified, it has also proved unassailable, with several decisive and nationalistic steps taken by the National Assembly lending credence to the absolute confidence reposed in Senator Akpabio, first by his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and then by his colleagues and Nigerians.

Akpabio’s very first day in office, seemed to have re-echoed the words of the first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong, who said his landing on the moon on July 20, 1969, was one small step for a man but one giant leap for mankind.

His emergence on the 13th of June, 2023 as the President of the 10th Senate was seen as a great step for the All Progressives Congress (APC), but a giant stride for Nigeria, the turf where Akpabio has remained a shining star and leading light for over 16 years.

Having served as commisioner for six years in three key ministries, as governor for two terms, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, (PDPGF), Senate Minority Leader as a first timer and later Minister Niger Delta Affairs before his eventful re-election as Senator in March 2023, after he had stepped down as presidential aspirant to support the aspiration of now President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Akpabio has bestridden the Nigerian landscape as a political colossus and made great marks on its sands of time.

The vast experiences acquired in all these offices would bring a whole lot of good to the National Assembly, the Federal Government and Nigerians in general and this was the main reason his aspiration for the office of the President of the 10th Senate got the endorsements of the Presidency, the leadership of the APC and the 63 Senators who ensured that ‘Godswill’ was done on June 13 and they were not wrong going by the actions and achievements of the Akpabio Senate Presidency in the last 100 days.

In the aftermath of the election of the Senate leadership, Senator Akpabio brought his wealth of experience to bear on the constitution of Senate Committees and the appointments of Committee chairmen such that the usual ruckus often associated with the exercise in previous National Assembly sessions was unheard of.

In Godwill Akpabio, the Senate has had a sturdy leader, who is providing leadership by patiently coordinating the different tendencies within the Red Chamber by ensuring stability and it is exciting that this is just the beginning.

It is therfore not a surprise when Senator Basheer Lado, Convener of the APC Non-Serving Senators, commended Akpabio for his exemplary disposition in the composition of Senate Committees, stating that “the strategic composition reflects a remarkable display of leadership, inclusivity, and commitment to the overall progress and welfare of our great nation.”

Even Akpabio’s major challenger for the office of the President of the Senate, Abdulaziz Yari, noticed that selfless leadership traits in Akpabio,  when he publicly described him as a selfless leader, when he dropped the gavel against the wish of the leadership of the Senate on the Senator Adams Oshiomhole face off with some Senators.

The Akpabio-led Senate had also displayed a rare disposition of nationalism quite early into the Akpabio Senate Presidency when it was confronted with a looming challenge occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy by the President and the threat of a mass protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress.

Represented by Senate Chief Whip, Ali Ndume, the Senate leadership was unequivocal about its commitment to ensuring that the system continues to run smoothly and that the interest of workers and the generality of Nigerians are respected by the Executive arm.

In what would go into the history books as one of the most impactful interventions that thawed the ice of the Federal Government-Labour Union face-off, the Senate had asked for Seven days to wade into the crisis and in those Seven days, the warring parties were, indeed, able to reach a compromise and avert what would have been the mother of all protests.

The Senate under Akpabio, apart from intervening in the NLC, TUC and FG industrial face off, it also played a major role in bringing to an end the strike and planned public protest by the members of Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors (NARD). In the same vein, Senate moved vehemently against the planned increment of electricity tariff by DISCOS in the wake of the removal of fuel subsidy, through a well endorsed motion which saw to the stoppage of the tariff increase.

It is also interesting to note how the Senate President oversaw a seamless and smooth screening and confirmation of ministers, who will work with President Tinubu to bring about the Renewed Hope Agenda promised Nigerians. Unlike previous screenings, where thoroughness and excellence were sacrificed on the altar of partisanship, Senator Akpabio ensured that he guided the Senate to offer qualitative screening while not hurting party loyalty and other democratically-lawful tendencies associated with such screenings.

When it was time for confirmation, the Senate leadership demonstrated an uncharacteristic courage in ensuring that the screening was not a mere academic exercise, as it also went ahead to turn down some nominations based on findings from the screening exercise. In the end, only 45 of the 48 nominations sent by the president were confirmed by the Senate. That is the kind of courage for which Akpabio has been renowned over the years.

Everywhere he had been, Akpabio’s penchant for etching his name in gold and emblazoning his excellent leadership identity on the hearts of the people has become a major credential that makes those who believe in him insist on him as the go-to man whenever tough leadership decisions are to be made.

Never one to shy away from taking initiatives in the interest of his people, what the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State started by redefining governance in Akwa Ibom and setting a major template for governors in terms of infrastructure development and people-centric leadership has become an identity that weathers all storms.

Also emblematic for the President of the Senate is his burning desire to make Nigeria work. Even when he had to take personal risks, as was the case when he was the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and he had to visit Tompolo in the creeks, to broker peace in the interest of the nation, Akpabio has remained the shining example of courageous leadership.

While campaigning to occupy his current position, he had promised Nigerians that the National Assembly under his watch would work for Nigeria and Nigerians and would rubber stamp anything that would be in the interest of the generality of Nigerians. His disposition and handling of the affairs of the Senate in the last 100 days has shown that he is not in anyway prepared to deviate from that solemn pledge to Nigerians.

As the President Tinubu administration goes on, the Presidency and, indeed, Nigerians can look forward to a stable, purposeful Senate that will work hard on its own end of the bargain to ensure the success of the Renewed Hope mandate of the President.

But there is something else they should look forward to; they should expect a courageous Senate leadership, one that will put the Executive arm on “its toes” in the overall interest of the Nation.

In Akpabio, Nigerians have a fearless leader, who will put his feet down when need be for the common good of the Nation; an uncommon leader, who will achieve uncommon feats as President of the 10th Senate.

His first 100 days in office have proven that much.

Petrol importers, power firms behind anti-Akpabio plot

Anti-subsidy removal forces and Electricity Distribution Companies are fighting back.

While fuel importers are pressing for the retracing of steps from subsidy removal and payment of outstanding subsidy, electricity distribution companies are protesting against the postponement of the tariff hike.

Yesterday, it was alleged that fuel Importers and the  distribution companies (DisCos) were behind the plot to impeach Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Sources said while fuel importers are angry with Akpabio and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for not paying them, at least, two additional months fuel subsidy, following the reversal of the policy, DisCos are said to be moving against the Senate President for allowing Senators to kill their plan to increase electricity tariffs by 40 per cent.

However, the Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), to the Senate President, Eseme Eyiboh, said “there is no cause for alarm.”

Dismissing the impeachment plot, he said “the Senate is harmonious, united and ready to jumpstart its legislative act.”

Eyiboh insisted that the 10th Senate would not be distracted by the machinations of blackmailers.

There were agitations against Akpabio at the weekend fuelled from outside, but which sources said were attributed to disaffection over committee appointments to divert attention.

However, while Akpabio actually faced some heat from some senators who complained about what they described as “Yorubanisation of financial system and economy,” he, more importantly, came under criticism from fuel importers and electricity distribution companies for trampling with their business interests.

The Senate President has been chided in reports over alleged lopsided distribution of ‘juicy committee appointments’ in favour of his supporters who supported his bid for the leadership of the National Assembly.

A source said senators from the North, particularly former governors, and one senator from the Southsouth are presenting All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Elisha Abbo from Adamawa State the face of the anti-Akpabio group

Abbo has accused Akpabio of marginalising his rivals in the leadership contest and their supporters in the distribution of top committee  positions.

However, a source close to the Abbo group disclosed that the grouse of the group is beyond committee appointments.

He said: “The main issue is our fear that Akpabio cannot check this Yorubanisation of the financial system that is going on now.”

The source alluded to recent appointments in Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), pointing out that they were dominated by the Southwest.

He added: “The reason why you can see that Northerners are mostly involved is that most of those being removed and replaced with Yoruba are northerners.”

It was further gathered that the aim of the aggrieved senators is to enthrone a Senate President who can checkmate President Bola Tinubu.

According to the source,  the group is liaising with other aggrieved stakeholders, especially petrol importers who believed that they were were shortchanged after reaching agreements with the President and Akpabio on the payment of subsidy to them.

It was gathered that an arrangement had been reached with the presidency that funds generated from the removal of fuel subsidy would be used to settle petrol importers within the first two months of the removal.

The source disclosed that the importers are protesting because the N2 trillion saved through subsidy removal was channelled towards palliatives intervention.

Another interest group said to have infiltrated the ranks of the dissident senators were some Electricity Distribution companies, who had also allegedly reached an agreement with the presidency and Akpabio for an upward review of 40 per cent of tariff.

That agreement was, however, discountenanced on the Senate floor by Akpabio.

The source pointed out that Northern business interest groups were more affected by the decision not to pay the petrol importers.

But, Eyiboh chided those mounting campaigns against Akpabio,  describing them as blackmailers.

He maintained that the Senate will not be distracted.

Eyiboh said: “The Senate is united, harmonious and  ready to jumpstart productive legislative activities upon resumption from vacation.

“So, no amount of blackmail, especially from the blackmail corridor, will distract the Senate’s collective resolve to give back to the Nigerian  people the benefits of the trust they invested in the 10th Senate.

“The 10th Senate under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio has  so far demonstrated its  avowed commitment to an independent, reform-minded and strong Senate.”

    • Lawmakers have moved on after leadership contest – Aide

The Senate yesterday described as a ruse the rumour making the rounds in a section of the media that some Senators were planning to impeach the Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, Yemi Adaramodu, made the clarification in a statement in Abuja.

Adaramodu’s clarification came hours after the Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, denied the alleged plot against Akpabio.

Adaramodu said: “Our attention has just been drawn to syndicated satanic verses in a section of the media, of purported and illusory plots of leadership change in the Senate.

“The Nigerian Senate is one united and fraternal family. This imaginative composition is in the realm of the fake and fallacious story of 100 million per legislator.

“It’s apt to note that the 10th Senate under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio has carried out its legislative and constitutional duties diligently.

“Within a span of less than 60 legislative days, the Senate has passed life enhancing bills and motions. It has screened and confirmed service chiefs and ministers, among others, apart from very essential oversight functions.

“We urge the fifth columnists, who operate undoubtedly outside the Senate, desperate to cause disharmony through media stunts and thus clipping the wings of Nigeria’s democracy, to take caution.

“The Senate should be allowed fresh air to settle down for its national assignments so that the Nigerian project can move forward.

“The media too, should be discerning not to be used as a hand tool to these retailers of fake and bad news.”

Eyiboh, in a statement he issued in Abuja yesterday, said that contrary to “sponsored reports” in a section of the media that some unnamed senators were plotting to impeach Akpabio, the Nigerian Senate under the Senate President’s leadership is stable and unperturbed by what appears to be a syndicated media attack from outside the precincts of the National Assembly.

Eyiboh insisted that the reports were complete imaginations sometimes laced with malice to achieve what Senators are yet to comprehend.

He said: “The Senate has since moved on after the leadership contest. The plot to drag in Senators who initially did not support the emergence of the present leadership into a conspiracy that does not exist was uncharitable to the Senators.

“Senators are presently concluding their holidays in their constituencies and other places they have chosen to spend their time after the rigours of the inauguration and ministerial screening.

“All senators are also refreshing themselves ahead of resumption, and suggestions that they are engaged in other subversive plots against the institution are rather uncharitable.

“It is especially uncharitable for those Senators who initially did not support the emergence of the leadership, but who have all unanimously endorsed the Senator Akpabio-led leadership.

“Continuing to link these Senators with one conspiracy or the other with barely disguised innuendo is rather unkind.

“We call on the media not to give in to the conspiratorial tales and to please not do damage to the reputation they have built over time.”

In a related development, some leaders of Niger Delta extraction have vowed to resist any attempt to impeach Akpabio.

The leaders, in a statement signed by the Secretary, Citizens Network for Peace and Development (CNPDN), Francis Wainwei, explained why no serious Nigerian should take the threat seriously.

They said in the last 10 years, no Senate President had spread the chairmanship of standing committees like Akpabio did.

The South-South leaders explained that opposition members just like senators elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), got ‘juicy’ committees.

The pro-South South group leaders said the senators pushing the narrative have a bigger plan to destabilise the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by causing unnecessary tension in the National Assembly.

The statement challenged the purveyors of the purported impeachment moves to show their faces and get ready to accept the dire consequences.

The statement reads: “We woke up to a funny story on Saturday morning about a purported plan by some unnamed senators to impeach Akpabio.

“Such stories can be ignored. But because we live in a society where some people take jokes too far, we have to immediately stop them.

“Before those unnamed senators take their jokes too far, we need to remind them that we won’t fold our hands and watch them. We’ll resist any attempt or move by anyone.

“We know the antecedents of these people and we know that they’re actually targeting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Once they weaken the National Assembly, they’ll go after President Tinubu. We won’t allow them.

“If you couldn’t win elections through the ballots, you can’t also take over power through the backdoor. Akpabio will remain the President of the 10th Senate and Chairman of the National Assembly.

“No Senate President has ever done what Akpabio has done in a few months. If not for mischief, why are they in a hurry to disturb Akpabio?

“The South-South supported these same people when they were in power. Why would they want to sabotage Akpabio who is the highest political office holder from the South South, which is the economic power of the country?

“For the sake of peace, we call on those jokers to leave Akpabio alone and allow him to focus on the task of rebuilding Nigeria with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Rebuilding Nigeria is a task for everyone. If you can’t stand the heat, we urge you to exit the kitchen and allow those who mean well for Nigeria to do the right thing.”

Senate denies alleged plot to impeach Akpabio

The Senate has described as a ruse rumour making the rounds in some media that some Senators were planning to impeach the Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, Yemi Adaramodu,

gave this indication in a statement in Abuja.

Adaramodu said: “Our attention has just been drawn to a syndicated satanic verses in a section of the media, of purported and illusory plots of leadership change in the Senate.

“The Nigerian Senate is one united and fraternal family. This imaginative composition is in the realm of the fake and fallacious story of 100million per legislator.

“It’s apt to note that the 10th Senate, under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio has carried out its legislative and constitutional duties diligently.

“The Senate should be allowed fresh air to settle down for its national assignments, so that the Nigerian project can move forward.

“The media too, should be discerning not to be used as hand tool to these retailers of fake and bad news.”
