    MFM feeds over 2,000 with free food items in Akure

    The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) Ondo State Mega 1, South West 4, has given free food items to over 2,000 families in Akure, Ondo State Capital. 

    The church also gave cash gifts to physically challenged persons. 

    Also, the church offered scholarships to 50 indigent pupils of Mountain Top Nursery and Primary School, Akure while it distributed free 4000 units of 60 leaves note notebooks to pupils across Akure with the aim to support the children’s educational needs amid the prevailing economic hardship.

    These took place during the Church’s food evangelism outreach at MFM Ondo Mega Region I, Akure.

    Ministering on the topic: “Jesus the Bread of Life,” the Assembly Pastor of MFM International Headquarters and Head of the Prophetic Group, Pastor Kunle Adesanya, who is a Senior Regional Overseer (SRO), stated only Jesus Christ can give lasting solution to individuals, families, nation or world’s hunger.

    He admonished all to embrace God through Jesus Christ and seek God for divine intervention in their problems, irrespective of what it might be.

    According to him: “Jesus Christ is the only one who can give eternal satisfaction.  The lasting solution to all problems comes from God through Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ fed the multitude, raised the dead and he gives lasting peace.  We all need to come to God through Jesus Christ.”

    Speaking on the gesture,  the Mega Regional Overseer (MRO) in charge of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Ondo State  Mega Region I, South  West 4,  Pastor Ademola Adeniyi,  said the food evangelism and other humanitarian programmes are part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of the church. 

    He added that the gestures are part of the Explosive Evangelism Initiative (EEI) of the church to capture more souls for Christ thereby depopulating the kingdom of darkness. 

    Pst Adeniyi thanked the General Overseer,  MFM worldwide, Dr. Daniel Olukoya and wife Dr. Folashade Elizabeth Olukoya ( the Apostle of Deliverance and selfless  philanthropists) for their utmost passion to ensure  that  souls are  won for Christ,  souls are delivered from Jaws of darkness,  lives are transformed  positively,  while  needs of the people are  also met  physically.

    Adeniyi said Olukoya has given a marching order to the churches across the world to ensure that lives are touched physically through different corporate social responsibility programmes apart from the Biblical teachings and Deliverance prayers the church believes in.

    Adeniyi also informed MFM  S/W 4, Akure has also trained over 200 women, youths, and teenagers in fashion designing, empowering each with a free sewing machine.

    Chairman of the Food Evangelism Planning Committee of MFM S/W 4, Ondo Mega Region I, Pastor Bayo Olaniran Ololajulo, said the programme was in furtherance of what Jesus Christ, the Master Himself, had started in the Bible days by feeding 5, 000 and 4,000 people at different occasions. 

    Staples food items given included rice, garri and beans to mention a few.

    The free food, according to beneficiaries, will help augment families this season as many are preparing hard for school resumption.

    Fear grips Akure residents as kidnappings escalate

    Residents of Oba-Ile and surrounding areas in Akure North Local Government Area are living in fear following a surge in kidnappings.

    Last week, gunmen killed a health worker, Akinola Oyabiyi, and abducted his child near Akure Airport in Eleyowo.

    The previous week, two former students of the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure, were kidnapped at Oke Oge while returning from their farm, with their captors demanding a ₦15 million ransom.

    Reports indicate that some residents have been forced to pay ransoms after receiving threats of abduction.

    Just last month, five farmers were brutally murdered at Ajegunle Powerline in Akure North, further deepening the community’s fears.

    Ondo Police Commissioner, Wilfred Afolabi, said the police need high tech equipment, vehicles to tackle security challenges in the state.

    The Ondo CP said he has given directives to all Divisional Police Officers to begin robust and energetic patrols across the state. 

    He said any Division without vehicles would do the patrol on motorcycles. 

    “We need mobility and that implies we are in need of vehicles. Kidnappings have gone sophisticated. We need equipment lile tracking. devices, drones to tackle kidnappings.”

    Senior Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Security, Chief Gbenga Atiba, said the state government was doing much to ensure safety of lives and property.

    ‘Dual Akure-Ore Road will boost economic activities’

    The Ondo Development Committee has said the dualisation of the Akure-Ondo-Ore Road would further boost social and economic activities in the kingdom.

    The was contained in a statement by its Chairman, Chief Siji Akinwande, the Tadese of Ondo Kingdom.

    The committee praised Oba Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo CFR, Jilo III, the Osemawe and Paramount Ruler of Ondo Kingdom for his efforts toward  the realisation of the project.

    The statement noted that the ODC,  through the yearly Ekimogun Day celebrations has been attracting physical developments to the kingdom and improving the welfare of  indigenes since its establishment.

    It  noted that the Osemawe, during the celebration of the Ekimogun Day  last December revealed how he has been persistently liaising with concerned authorities on the dualisation project right from the time he was the Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas.

    The prices of some food items have significantly dropped in Akure, the Ondo State capital. 

    Market checks revealed that the price of a bag of garri has reduced from N55,000 to N35,000, while a basket of tomatoes has dropped from N80,000 to N60,000. 

    The price of a 50kg bag of rice has also slightly decreased from N93,000 to N90,000.

    However, the prices of palm oil and rodo pepper have increased. 

    The cost of 25 litres of palm oil has risen from N37,000 to N54,000, and rodo pepper has soared from N15,000 to N45,000. 

    Meanwhile, a carton of spaghetti that previously sold for N35,000 is now priced at N23,000.

    Additionally, the price of a 50kg bag of beans has fallen from N250,000 to N130,000.

    Youths clean Akure markets

    Over 50 youths under the auspices of the Young Africa Leaders Initiative Network have engaged in sweeping and clearing dirt in markets within the Akure metropolis.

    Besides cleaning the markets, the youths also sensitised traders in the market on the menace of waste to public health.

    The youths also donated two plastic waste collectors for easy recycling of waste.

    The coordinator of the group, Adamolekun Emmanuel, said sweeping and cleaning the markets was part of activities to mark Youth Day of Service.

    Adamolekun said the 50 volunteers were drawn from young professionals,

    students and officials of the Ondo Waste Management Authority.

    Ondo 2024: Shettima arrives Akure for APC mega rally

    Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Akure on Wednesday for the grand finale of APC campaign for its governorship candidate in Saturday’s election in Ondo State.

    Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa succeeded the late Rotimi Akeredolu, who died on Dec. 26. 2023, while in office, and is the flag bearer of the party in the upcoming election.

    Shettima,who arrived the Akure Airport at noon, was accompanied by several governors and member of the national assembly.

    Among the governors were; Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State and Usman Ododo of Kogi State.

    Also on the entourage was Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele from Ekiti, former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomole, Minister of Interior, Bunmi Tunji Ojo, Minister of Youth, Ayodele Olawande among others.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Shettima is in Akure for the final campaign of the APC.

    He is billed to visit the Palace of Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo, before going to the campaign venue.

    Deji of Akure orders closure of market

    Deji of Akure, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo, has ordered closure of markets, shops and stalls in observance of the age long tradition of the annual Amole festival.

    He said it was in line with the tradition and culture of Akureland.

    A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Adeyeye Michael, said only pharmacy shops were exempted from the closure during the festival.

    “Without mincing words and for the sake of emphasis, we wish to inform residents that no shop, market, stalls, community or quarter within the Akure metropolis will be exempted under any guise from observing this festival.

    “Consequently, we urge traditional rulers and quarter chiefs to ensure observance of this festival within their domain.

    “For the avoidance of doubt, the festival will not in any way restrict human and vehicular movement.

    “The palace wishes to appreciate the state government and security agencies for their understanding and cooperation in ensuring the preservation of our revered culture and tradition.”

    Murdered Akure caterer buried amidst tears

    The remains of the late  Caterer who was  gruesomely murdered at her home in Akure, Ondo State  last month was buried on Friday following an autopsy report.

    The President/Chief Executive Officer of Kitchen County, late Mrs. Debbie Olakunbi Monsurat Iyabo Adene (Nee Oyeneye) was buried in her husband’s compound at Upenmen, Owo, Ondo State on Friday after a funeral church  service.

    The service, which was conducted by Rev. Canon Ade Oni at St. James’ Anglican Church, Upenmen, was attended by the late Adene’s friends and family members.

    The Officiating Minister, Oni, preached about love and the kingdom of Heaven and implored  everyone to get closer to God, for no one knows when the Trumpet would sound.

    The church service  was attended by her immediate family members and friends. In the burial programme, one of the children of the late caterer’s daughter, Dr. Tejumade Adene  wrote: “The only thing I have left is the sweet  memories of you, the way you labored, sacrificed and loved my sister, Pelumi and I. You would literally go to heavens to pick a star if that was what we wanted, you did everything a good mother would do to give her children a good life.”

    The second daughter, Oluwapelumi Adene wrote: “I don’t think this pain will ever go away, but I am confident that God will make the best of this. Moving forward without you is not something I ever imagined. We miss you more than words can describe. Keep basking in God’s presence. I know I must walk my own path but I promise to let your love be the light to guide me forever.”

    Adebola Oyeneye, the immediate younger brother to the late caterer said: “It is still a shock that my older sister could just be killed like that. I pray  God accept her soul.”

    Adebola said their aged mother is not aware of  the death of her daughter. He said: “My mother has been asking for her and I told her that she has traveled to the United Kingdom since she knows that she used to travel. In fact I make sure nobody pays her a visit and again I took away her transistor radio and hid it to avoid her hearing the news.

    His Royal Majesty, Oba Ebenezer Adewumi Ogunmolasuyi II, the Olupenmen of Upenmen was represented in the church  by one of his chiefs with the royal staff of office. According to him, the ugly murder of the late Mrs. Adene was “devastating, shocking and a bitter pill to swallow. She was a very humble woman; it’s unfortunate she was cut down at her prime when her children needed her most and she could have begun reaping the fruit of her hard work on her children. Her husband is a prince of Upenmen.”

    The royal father however commended the Police for arresting some of the culprits, stating that all those involved in her death must be persecuted and justice done.

    The Olunaun of Unaun, Prince Olanrewaju Abegunde, who spoke with this reporter, said “the news was shocking and devastating. May God console the family.”

    The Olowo of Owo,  His Imperial Majesty,  Oba Gbadegeshin Ajibade Ogunoye III, described the killing of the late caterer as a wicked one. He however praised the police for acting fast and arresting the suspects. He pleaded that other suspects on the run should be apprehended and brought to justice.

    He said: “I have known the late Debbie over 30 years. She was a very hard working woman and her untimely death is devastating. I convey my condolences to the family. May her departed soul rest in peace.”

    Husband of the deceased, Prince Dele Adene said, “May her soul rest in peace. The only thing that can give us relief is for the authorities to apprehend the suspects and let justice prevail. The question everyone is asking is the whereabouts of the driver who is still at large. We want the IG to use his good office and fish out the masterminds and executioners of this heinous murder; then we would be at peace.”

    Akinsuyi Olusola, who attended the church programme, said he was saddened when he saw the white coffin.

    “This woman was very hardworking. Why should they cut her life short like this? I am pleading to the State CID to investigate the case and whoever is found wanting should be prosecuted.”

    One of the arrested suspects will be arraigned  in Court on September 6. However, the driver, who is yet to be apprehended is at large. A source said, “There must be a reason why the driver is hiding. We are suspicious. If the driver is found, he will definitely tell the whole world who sent them if truly it was an assassination case.”

    The lawmaker representing Akure Federal Constituency Hon. Derin Adesida said that the four bills he sponsored were for the development of his constituents. 

    Adesida said the four bills and 20 motions he moved were part of his achievements in the last one year. 

    Adesida said one of the bills was on the establishment of a University of Agriculture in Akure. 

    He spoke while giving report of his stewardship within his one year as a lawmaker to members of his constituents. 

    Adesida, who reiterated his commitment to the service of his constituents, said he has influenced appointments of youths to some agencies and erected over 700 solar-powered street lights. 

    According to him: “The motive of this meeting is to give back our activities so far within one year to you and also, to create an opportunity for interaction on the progress of our constituency. 

    “I want to use this avenue to apologise to our people who complain that I don’t usually pick their calls or reply their texts. They should not be offended, it was as a result of legislative activities. Many times, we were engaged in legislative meetings and oversight functions.” 

    Ondo Central Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. Festus Aregbesola, appealed to the people to cooperate and give the lawmaker time to do more.

    Petrol station owner machetes wife to death, commits suicide in Akure

    A socialite and petrol station owner in Akure, Mr Sesan Adelabu, popularly known as Emirate, has reportedly macheted his wife to death and committed suicide by drinking sniper, an insect-killing substance.

    It was gathered that the incident happened on Friday in the Alagbaka area of Akure, Ondo State capital.

    His body and that of his wife were deposited in the morgue.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adelabu was the owner of the Emirate filling stations in Akure.

    Confirming the incident, the state  Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya,  said the command had commenced investigation into the matter.

    She said that the Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladapo, had ordered homicide section to take over the case.

    According to the PPRO, on  Feb. 9, a distress call was received by the police of ‘A’ Division Akure, by men of Special Protection Unit over alleged murder and suicide of a socialite and petrol station owner Sesan Adelabu, and his wife Bolu Adelabu.

    “The officer attached to the deceased in his house at Alagbaka area in Akure, received a call from the deceased child around 6:00 p.m. asking after his father, because he was not picking his calls.

    “The police man, while trying to inform his principal, discovered him faced down and lifeless in the toilet while his wife’s body was found on the bed with multiple cuts, suspected to be machete cuts on her head and face.

    ” Meanwhile, an empty container of sniper was also found at the scene.

    “Investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident and the scene cordoned off to enable police to do the needful ,” the PPRO said.
