  • Joshua’s money-spinning sponsorship deals revealed

    Not only is Anthony Joshua a formidable force in the ring, the 29-year-old has an impressive portfolio of commercial endorsements.

    The heavyweight champion has quickly become a lucrative figure in his own right, striking deals with big name brands such as JD , Lucozade Sport and Beats to name a few.

    Ranging from clothing to television and cars, Joshua has an extensive collection of endorsements from which he reportedly earned £2.7million in 2017.

    Ultimately, the ‘Team AJ’ brand depends very much on Joshua’s success. With over 240,000 tickets reportedly sold for his previous three fights and an impressive 22-match winning streak, the British star’s image is bigger than ever.

    In 2015, Joshua embarked on a joint-venture with Freddie Cunningham and set up their own company, AJ Boxing and Commercial, primarily earning money through 13 sponsorship deals.

    This collection of sponsors is the marketing force behind ‘Team AJ,’ promoting the brand and its image across a wide range of platforms.

    Joshua’s deal with promotional company Matchroom Sport is believed to be worth £100m in itself, while Forbes reported endorsement figures of $7m for 2017.

    Whenever he appears for promotional eventshe wears Under Armour or Hugo Boss and you can be sure he’ll have a pair of beats headphones to hand and perhaps a Audemars Piguet watch around his wrist.

    He invested in BXR gym in London and is provided with a set of wheels by Land Rover while the Londoner also has deals with Lucozade, Lynx, JD Sports, StubHub and Bulk Powders.

    In the ring, Joshua has taken the boxing world by storm after reportedly taking £15 million from the bouts with Wladimir Klitschko and Carlos Takam respectively, with total winnings suggested to be $32 million as of May 2018.

    He boasts an incredible record of 21 knockouts from 22 fights, most recently defeating Alexander Povetkin by TKO in September 2018.

    Soon, he will be heading stateside as he looks to conquer attractive markets outside of the UK and fans don’t have to wait too long to see their man in action.

    For the next couple of months, Joshua will be preparing for a massive world heavyweight championship battle against Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller in New York. The fight is scheduled for June 1st and will take place at Madison Square Garden .

  • NANS hails boxer Anthony Joshua’s victory

    The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) on Sunday congratulated the Nigeria-born boxer, Anthony Joshua, on his victory over the Russian Alexander Povetkin to retain his World Heavyweight titles.

    The NANS’ congratulatory message was contained in a statement titled: “Inspiration for All Nigerian Youths’’, signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Bestman Okereafo in Enugu.

    Joshua had on Saturday night defeated Povetkin through a Technical Knock Out (TKO) in the seventh round of the fight at the 80,000-capacity Wembley Stadium, London.

    With the victory, Joshua thus retained his WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO world heavyweight championship belts.

    The association attributed the victory to hard work and consistency, adding that Joshua remains a big source of inspiration to other Nigerian youths.

    “Anthony Joshua had in series of times proved that you can be the best you want to be through hard work, dedication and focus.

    “Nigerian youths are proud of the great boxer and we will strive to emulate his virtues by putting Nigeria first in anything we are doing.

    “We say thank you for continuously making Nigeria proud,’’the statement reads.

    With the win, the 28-year-old boxer moved on to 22 fights unbeaten in his professional career.

    The successful bout also gave Joshua his 21st win by TKO.

    In April 2017, Joshua became a unified heavyweight world champion after he knocked out Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko at the same Wembley Stadium.

  • Video: Anthony Joshua knocks out Povetkin

    Nigerian born British boxer, Anthony Joshua has beaten his mandatory challenger, Russia’s Alexander Povetkin by a knockout in the seventh round, to keep hold of the WBA, (Super) IBF, WBO and IBO belts.

    Joshua born by Nigerian parents, beat the Russian at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday night, to hand the Russian, his first knockout defeat in his professional boxing career.

    Joshua was very brutal punching Povetkin in the closing rounds, although Jovetkin too had gotten the better of him in the earlier rounds.

    After two slower opening rounds, Joshua found his range in that fight. And it was a series of accurate combinations which did it in the seventh round, first with an overhand right and then some big lefts.

    His win has improved his professional career to 22 fights unbeaten, 21 of the fights by knockout.

    Joshua is expected to earn £20 million and Povetkin £6 million.

    On Joshua’s next opponent, boxing promoter Eddie Hearn said: “If it’s not Deontay Wilder it’ll be Dillian Whyte. Our sole focus is on AJ being the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.”

    Nigeria born British boxer Anthony Joshua can hardly wait to add another knock out to his bag of laurels.  Joshua who is leaving no stone unturned in his training ahead of all important clash against Alexander Povetkin appears ready for bout even if re-scheduled into a less than 72 hours affair

    The massive calorie burning Joshua shared a video of his workout on Instagram and looks in great condition ahead showdown.

    The WBO, WBA and IBF world heavyweight champion worked on his cardio with a session on the exercise bike.

    He also strengthened his neck muscles by flexing against a giant pilates ball on the wall.

    Wearing a white vest and shorts with his headphones on, Joshua appeared to be working himself hard but cracked a smile for the camera on the treadmill.

    That fitness and neck strength could be crucial against Alexander Povetkin, his next opponent on September 22.

    The Russian is a power puncher and wily veteran who will pose a stern test of the former Olympic champion’s 21-0 professional record.

    Victories over the 38-year-old at Wembley will set-up a mega-fight against Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury who have agreed to lock horns in the interim.

    It seems that Joshua is refusing to be sidetracked with the prospect of those massive contests in the pipeline as he continues to get in shape with less than a month until he faces Povetkin.
