Buhari rode to power on false promises – Balarabe Musa

Former Governor of the old Kaduna State, and National Chairman of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Alhaji Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa on Monday took a swipe on the President Muhammadu Buhari led government and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying that, they rode to power on false and empty promises.

Musa who took a critical look at the state of the nation, almost three years into President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration said, the APC, saddled with internal crisis, has nothing to offer Nigerians than hardship.

Speaking at the 54th meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of PRP, the elder statesman noted that none of the promises made by Buhari and APC before coming to power in 2015 had been fulfilled, “rather, hardship has overwhelmed the masses of this country”.

The PRP leader said, since 2015 when the APC came to power, economy has remained comatose, unemployment has assumed critical proportion, insecurity among other issues have become life threatening and worrisome.

Balarabe Musa however expressed belief that his party would remedy the situation if it comes to power, adding that, APC has worsen political environment in the country.

In his words, “As you are all aware, our nation today remains in a very sorry state despite all the lofty promises and flowery speeches made by the ruling government of the All Progressive Congress (APC) at the inception of the Administration in 2015.

“The economy remains comatose, and in some sectors, particularly in industry and commerce, it is even getting worse.

“Monetary and fiscal management has continued to lack coherence and consistency, or even predictability and strategic planning.

“Unemployment, particularly amongst the youth, who constitute the bulk of our population, has assumed critical proportions and is now, for all practical purposes, a national emergency.

“Yet, this APC Administration, which rode to power on the back of false promises to this generation of hapless young men and women, seems to have no answers to this ticking time bomb beyond slogans such as N-Power.

“In fact, instead of creating jobs, the Administration is busy cutting existing ones in the name of ‘rightsizing’ or ‘downsizing’.

“This government, both at the centre and in the States that it controls, has proved that it has little or nothing else to provide Nigerians other than further mass impoverishment, frustration and hardships.

“If we turn to the security front, the same sad picture confronts us. Perhaps, President Muhammadu Buhari’s greatest appeal for many in 2015 was the belief that he was capable of dealing a death blow to the insurgency, particularly as manifested by Boko Haram.

“In these almost three years that the APC has been in power, the reality has been otherwise.

“Yes, the Boko Haram camps in the Sambisa forest may have been wiped out, but the security menace that the group poses continues to manifest, with suicide bombs exploding almost on a weekly basis, particularly in the North Eastern parts of the country.

“But apart from the Boko Haram insurgency, others have emerged in different parts of the country.

“Recently, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) unleashed mayhem in the South East. Similarly, the militants in the Niger Delta are yet to sheath their swords.

“And even more ominous is the threat to public safety and the security of lives and property posed by the marauding gangs of cattle rustlers, killer herdsmen and armed kidnappers.

“We ask, where is the security promised Nigerians by this APC administration?.

“In so far as the political environment is concerned, again the story is a sad one. Lacking any internal cohesion within itself, the APC administration has only spawned and promoted institutional political decay in the country.

“In the name of an anti-corruption campaign, the government has been consistently assaulting due process and the rule of law.

“Court orders are flagrantly disobeyed by the very institutions that should enforce them.

“Basic democratic rights are being cynically abused. While talking glibly about fighting corruption, the government shamelessly looks askance where corruption is exposed within its own very ranks, closets and cocoons”.

Musa said the state of the nation is sad because things do not have to be so sad given the natural and human endowments of the country.

He however appealed to the masses to endure the challenges, saying that PRP will be their last hope if voted into power to build a strong political, social and economic platform for the country.

Blame Presidency for Magu’s rejection, says Balarabe Musa

Former Kaduna State second republic governor, Balarabe Musa has described the disqualification of the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu by the Senate as a discredit to the entire system.

Musa faulted the presidency for not working effectively with the legislators, before the confirmation date.

The elder statesman in an interview with our correspondent on the development said it is now left to President Muhammadu Buhari to salvage the situation by calling appropriate authorities to order.

He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), for releasing the 2019 presidential election date adding that it will give room for adequate preparation by all stakeholders and prompt release of fund by government.

Mass protest looms if election is shifted again -Balarabe Musa

Second Republic governor of the old Kaduna State, Alhaji Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa, said Nigerians will massively protest any fresh attempt to shift this year’s elections.

The insurgency in the Northeast, he said yesterday in Kaduna, is not sufficient to warrant further postponement of the polls.

The Presidential/National Assembly  Elections originally scheduled for February 14 and the Governorship/State Assembly polls fixed for February 28 were shifted to March 28 and April 11 respectively following pressure from the military that its men would not be available this month in view of their engagement with the terror sect, Boko Haram.

However, Alhaji Musa told reporters at the end of a meeting of his de-registered Peoples Redemption party (PRP) that government should not take Nigerians for a ride any longer  on the issue.

“If election is shifted again, majority of Nigerians will oppose it, they will demonstrate against it,” he said.

“Nigerians will come out massively to oppose it because another shift will not be in their interest. Another shift will mean that government wants to remain in power.

“If ,therefore, a six-week delay is the sacrifice which Nigerians have to make to ensure that every registered voter is given an opportunity to exercise (or not to exercise) his constitutional right to vote, so be it. But Nigerians cannot tolerate another shift of election date.

“We will not tolerate another shift because we are nobody’s slave; we are free people, and this country is free. This country belongs to all of us, it does not belong to a clique.”

He added: “Continuation of Boko Haram activities is not an excuse to shift election again because Boko Haram is occupying less than 14 percent of Nigeria. We can tolerate this.

“We should conduct election in spite of the insurgency. The moment we can have free, fair and transparent elections leading to eligible government in the country, even Boko Haram will respect such government, and they will go to the negotiation table.”

He deplored the high cost of contesting elections in the country.

According to him, anyone seeking to be president will require in the region of N50billion to make an impact.

He also expressed disgust at the deteriorating standard of living in the country saying: “The situation in the country has continued to nosedive and the impact of this on the material well being and circumstances of the mass of our people continues to bite very hard.

“All of this is happening in the midst of unmitigated profligacy, institutionalised stealing of public resources and the political unaccountability of the ruling classes.

“When we turn to the security situation in the country, matters are not better. Again, things remain as bad if not worse: Boko Haram continues to wax stronger, in spite of all the exaggerated claims by President Jonathan and his security chiefs that they are on top of the situation.

“For us in the PRP and other parties and organisations in the Credible Alternative Alliance (CAA) the postponement of the elections was necessary and inevitable, not for the security excuses proffered by INEC, but because of the poor handling of the distribution of Permanent Voter Card, (PVC) by INEC.

“This is because the right to vote is an entitlement protected by the constitution of the country and so cannot simply be wished away, expunged or nullified by any measure whatsoever, administrative or otherwise, emanating from any government agency and certainly not INEC.”

  • 2015: PDP, APC won’t produce president -Balarabe Musa

THE first executive governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa, yesterday said neither the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nor the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) would produce the next president in the 2015 elections.

Balarabe Musa who is the national chairman of the deregistered Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) told newsmen in an interview during a meeting with 26 states executive committee’ members of the party, that there is no difference between the PDP and APC.

He added that none of the two major political parties is credible enough to take Nigerians to the promised land, stressing that for this reason, PRP has gone into a merger with Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) to produce the president in 2015 elections.

He disclosed that PRP has since instituted legal action against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for deregistering the party.

His words, “We are not in support of  Buhari or Jonathan because we are not in APC or PDP, we are neutral, we belong to a credible alternative, that is, we merged with Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) for the purpose of the 2015 elections.

“We are better alternative to both Jonathan and Buhari, and fundamentally, there is a distinct difference between the alliance and APC and PDP. The alliance makes a fundamental difference in the sense that we are committed to leading the way to end all forms of insecurity in order to ensure peace for human and infrastructural developments in the country.

“None of the two parties is advanced. PDP is not that advanced, APC is not that advanced, and so their ideology is not relevant to the people of Nigeria, because there is no way they can guarantee the constitutional provisions in the country for welfare and security of the people with the rat race and survival of the fittest, which the APC and PDP are after.

“Nigerians should reject APC and PDP because they brought about the negative states of the nation. And again APC and PDP represent the same thing. More than half of the leadership of the APC originated from the PDP; in fact, the ones that play the leading roles in APC, other than Buhari and Atiku were all sometimes in the PDP, it is quarrel in the PDP that made them to form their own APC.

“Our party, Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), is deregistered, and so it is not presenting any presidential candidate, but it belongs to an alliance, a democratic alliance called credible alternative alliance on the platform of ACPN. We are fielding all candidates, including a presidential candidate in the 2015 elections. The presidential candidate will soon be announced, the candidate will be announced by the ACPN.

“When we turn our glance to the domestic front, the picture we see is gloomy. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s administration has proved, even to its former ardent sympathisers, that it is simply incapable of running the affairs of this nation.”

“In whatever field or sector you consider, the Administration’s ineptitude, bankruptcy and decadence stands out for anyone who cares to look. Poverty and unemployment are on the rise and becoming more and more unbearable. Agriculture, the mainstay of the national economy and the source of livelihood of some eighty percent of the population, is stagnating and in the doldrums.

“Most industries have since closed shop. Indeed, it’ can even be said that these past six years of President Jonathan have witnessed the deindustrialisation of Nigeria. Nigeria is now for all practical purposes just a large supermarket for all manner of imported goods and services.

“The story is even grimmer when it comes to national security and the protection of the territorial integrity of the country, and the lives and property of citizens

He concluded that “Today’s meeting is, therefore summoned principally to discuss the practical steps and specific modalities that would have to be taken on the part of the PRP to effect the objectives of the alliance, particularly regarding the electoral platform on which our Party shall contest the forthcoming elections”
