    Maitama Sule’s body arrives Kano, ready for burial

    The remains of elder statesman, Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule arrived the ancient city of Kano onboard an airforce plane with registration number NAF 913 at about 3:30 PM.

    The plane landed at the Kano airforce base where the host governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and his counterpart s from Bauchi and Jigawa states received the body.

    Immediately, the body was driven straight to his private residence at Dawaki road in an ambulance, to the awaiting hands of his family and well-wishers for their last respect to their beloved father.

    However, thousands of mourners and dignitaries from all walks of life have converged on the Emir’s palace anxiously waiting to pay their last respect to the elder statesman for prayers and burial.

    Alhaji Salisu Matori, former senator of Bauchi South Senatorial District, said on Tuesday that the late Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule died at a time the country needed him most.

    Matori, who is also the Group Managing Director of Matori Group of Companies, said this in Bauchi while reacting to the death of the former Nigerian envoy.

    “We lost Alhaji Maitama Sule at a time this country really needs him more than before with the current political issues overheating the country.

    “We know he always plays the role of a peacemaker between the various conflicting interests in our country.

    ”So it is very unfortunate that he has left the scene so soon when his patriotic and selfless services are needed more than ever before.

    “His was a kind of life that each and every right thinking person should emulate.

    “It was his selfless service, the selfless lifestyle that he led, the legacy which he left behind that are worthwhile. They are there for everybody to see.

    “Everybody who had the opportunity to work closely with him, as I did, will appreciate the kind of great person and rare specie of human he was on the continent of African today.”

    Matori, who is also the Dan-Masani Bauchi, expressed the hope that Nigerians would emulate the exemplary life and leadership style of the deceased.

    “The youth and every one of us should look closely because there is a lot that we should learn from the kind of life that he lived.

    Maitama Sule, untiring, remarkable politician – Daniel

    The former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba (Engr.) Gbenga Daniel has described late Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule as a remarkable politician, an untiring leader and one of the last titans of modern-day Nigeria.

    In his condolence message signed by Ayo Giwa, Media Officer to the former Governor, Daniel expressed grief on the death of the elder statesman whose demise, he stated, was a great loss to his family, the good people of Kano State and the entire nation considering his immense contributions to the political history of Nigeria.

    “He was a notable diplomat, political strategist, proficient administrator and an outstanding statesman whose life was that of continuous service and commitment to the well-being of the people. His demise was a great loss to the nation especially the Northern Region which he represented and defended with an undying passion till the end”.

    While describing death as an inevitable end, he noted that late Maitama Sule lived a highly courageous and dedicated life in the service of the people and his death ends a glorious chapter in Nigeria’s democratic process.

    The former governor then prayed Almighty Allah to grant the soul of the late politician eternal rest, as he enjoined the people of Kano State to accept the death in good faith.

    NGF mourns Maitama Sule

    The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar said the demise of the Dan Masanin Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, in a hospital in Egypt was a great loss to the Nigerian people and to Kano state, its peoples and its emirate council in particular

    Describing the deceased as an astute politician, administrator and orator who has impacted the nation positively in various spheres of human endeavor, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum said the nation will hardly recover from the loss of such a wise fella whose passion for national development is unquenchable.

    Yari, in a statement by Abulrazque B. barkindoHead, media & public affairs, NGF Secretariat, described the late Yusuf Maitama Sule as an orator and former diplomat who was also a complete gentleman and good citizen who dedicated his life to the unity, progress and development of Nigeria.

    He said that the Nigeria Governors Forum and indeed all the governors of the country had always relied on the Dan Masanin Kano, Alhaji Maitama Sule as a close confidant, citing the naming of very prominent streets in some parts of the country by many of them as evidence of their affection for the late sage.

    He said “Our country has lost a rare gem. Dan Masani was a leading light of the old generation and with his demise the last of that generation has now been finally extinguished. He was a complete gentleman whose honesty, commitment and dedication to the unity of Nigeria will forever be cherished.

    “Dan Masani’s name will continue to be identified with everything positive about Nigeria and its people. Whenever the future generation reads about Dan Masani, they will encounter a man who was cherished and respected by the high and mighty from all parts of the country,” he added.

    While praying to almighty Allah to give his family the strength to bear the loss, Yari extended his condolences to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano, the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II and the entire people of Kano State over the loss.

    Only last week the forum stood in a minute’s silence for its colleague and Former Governor of Taraba State, Mr Danbaba Danfulani Suntai who died from a protracted illness occasioned by his fall from a flight.

    Governor Yari prayed to almighty Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest.
