Pro-Atiku comment: Minister urges Buhari to sack Alhassan

Minister of Sports Solomon Dalung has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency sack his Women Affairs counterpart, Hajia Aisha Jummai Alhassan, over her comment supporting the candidacy of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for 2019 presidential election.

Dalung spoke in an interview he granted the Hausa Service of the Voice of America.

He said the minister ought to have resigned before working against President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to the Sports Minister in the VOA Hausa Service interview, Mrs. Alhassan’s action is an attempt to sink the ship of Buhari’s administration with all the people on board.

He, however, said the best thing to do at the moment was to drop Mrs. Alhassan to sink alone.

“It is not possible for us to be selling fuel and somebody will now come and say she wants to fry ‘Akara’ in the same place. That means, the person is looking for inferno and we won’t allow that.

“Her comments will certainly make every Nigerian suspect all of us the ministers in the Buhari government that we are betrayers, simply because Jummai Alhassan is one of us. If she had wanted to be just to herself, she should have resigned her position.

“Now that she has refused to resign, her case is like someone in canoe and wants it to capsize. So, the best thing to do is to drop her in the river to sink alone, since that is her hope,” he said.

Dalung to Buhari: Sack Alhassan over pro-Atiku comment

The Minister of Sports, Barr. Solomon Dalung, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack his Women Affairs and Social Development counterpart, Hajia Aisha Jummai Alhassan over her purported support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar 2019 presidential bid.

Dalung made the call on the Hausa Service of the Voice of America, saying, Alhassan should quit the cabinet before working against President Buhari.

According to him, Alhassan’s action is an attempt to sink the ship of Buhari’s administration with all the people on board.

He, however, said the best thing to do at the moment was to allow the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate in Taraba 2015 governorship election to sink alone.

He said: “It is not possible for us to be selling fuel and somebody will now come and say she wants to fry ‘Akara’ in the same place. That means, the person is looking for inferno and we won’t allow that.

“Her comments will certainly make every Nigerian suspect that all of us in Buhari’s government are betrayers, simply because Jummai Alhassan is one of us. If she had wanted to be just to herself, she should have resigned her position.

“Now that she has refused to resign, her case is like someone in canoe and wants it to capsize. So, the best thing to do is to drop her in the river to sink alone, since that is her hope.”

  • PMB, Alhassan and loyalty

SIR: Loyalty according to the dictionary meaning is “a feeling or attitude of devoted attachment and affection”. According to Minna Antrim “love often wears a mask In order to test loyalty”. This is somewhat corroborated by Edwin Louis Cole in his philosophical quip “Confidentiality is a virtue of the loyal, as loyalty is the virtue of faithfulness”

Mark Twain was more pragmatic in one of his intellectual prognosis – “Loyalty to the nation all the time, loyalty to the government when it deserves it”.

Now Mark Twain’s wisecrack seems to approximate the frontiers of tectonic loyalty in a tripod; loyalty to the nation, loyalty to the government and loyalty to the leader who is the commander in chief as it applies to Nigeria.

It would amount to a political suicide of a ruinous proportion for any president wishing to achieve any success in governance to exhibit nonchalance on issue of loyalty.

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Alhassan showed a crass disdain for loyalty especially at a time the nation is passing through challenging times which demand that all cabinet members put their very best into deliverables cognate to their ministries and parastatals and not to be so insouciant as to publicly embrace political frolicsomeness.

President Buhari should learn from the President of the United States who takes loyalty as an article of faith; needless to say that President Donald Trump’s obsession for loyalty has kept him afloat in the Oval Office for which he has demonstrated little leadership experience.

Alhassan’s insubordination is not an isolated case under President Buhari’s watch. It remains a mystery till this moment what motivated the DSS to transmit an adverse report on the acting Chairman of EFCC to the National Assembly without presidential input. The same presidential docility that gave the DSS impetus seems to have been explored by the minister albeit with brazenness.

The president must quickly put his house in order by allowing officials with questionable loyalty a timely exit, otherwise the little time remaining for his cabinet to impact the nation will end up in political horse-trading and tectonic failure.

  • Alhassan never supported Buhari in 2015 – El-Rufai

Alhassan never supported Buhari in 2015 – El-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai on Friday said that the Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan never believed in the ideology of President Muhammadu Buhari before or after the 2015 Presidential elections.

According to him, she did not even vote for President Buhari during the election.

El-Rufai spoke with State House correspondents after meeting with President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He explained that the President President only appointed her as a minister to as he considered every Nigerian as his son or daughter.

He said “I just came to see the President and wish him very happy Sallah arrears, I wasn’t able to go to Daura. ‎Hours of works and interactions, today being Friday I happen to be in town and thought I should come see him, pray with him and wish him well.

The Minister of Women Affairs Jummai Alhassan has been in the Students Union. In the APC she was never in the Buhari camp, she did not support our candidates during the National Convention, she didn’t vote for Buhari during the Primaries. But out of largeness of the President’s heart and to encourage women……

“Even though she was never a supporter of his politics or what he believes in, his ideology. He still believed that to encourage women in politics , what she has tried to do in Taraba earned her being nominated as a Minister. Many in Buhari camp did not support it but he overode everybody… he tries to consider every Nigerian his own son or daughter and he nominated here…

“Her comments are not surprising, she has never been a supporter, she has never believed in Buhari ideology. So, I am not surprised… as a Nigerian, as an individual she has every right to express her views and support whoever she wants.

“What I am saying is Nigerians should not be surprised or shocked. This has always been her position because from time she has never supported Buharism or what Buhari stands for. Being part of Buhari government is a different thing because government sets policies and if you are a minister you execute the policies. You can execute those policies while pursuing a different brand of politics.

On whether she should be retained, he said that it is the prerogative of the President to decide on what to do.

He said “It is the President’s prerogative. Look, you can retain a person in the cabinet even if he doesn’t support you if he adds value to the country. Because this is a government, it is not a political group fighting for some political progress. If Jummai Alhassan is coming as Minister of Women Affairs and adding value to the government and the people of Nigeria is the President’s prerogative to retain her in spite of her political views.

“But if she is not adding value in spite of her political views she can be dispensed with…… people shouldn’t get worried about it.

“I have worked closely with the President, I know him and I know how he thinks. He doesn’t take this things personally…. What is primary to him is Nigeria’s progress… that is what matters ultimately.

Speaking on the call for On restructuring, he said “Well, I am chairing the APC ‎committee on true federalism, we met yesterday. We are going to start public hearings round the country from September 18. We have published call for memoranda and we have started receiving a lot of comments and memoranda particularly from young people who have never been part of this restructuring conversation, and we will go to every part of the country.

“We’ll have 13 public hearings all across the country, and by the time we listen to Nigerians and synthesize their views we will …..write and make recommendations to our party how to operationise true federalism as we have promised in our constitution.

“What is important for us ‎in the APC is to separate the signal from the noise. There is a lot of noise about…. there is a lot of opportunism, there are people that are restructuring their career, that is their meal ticket and we’ll put that as the noise.

“But the signal is what nigerians say. What young people who’s country we are supposed to be restructuring for. One, we are encouraging young people through social media, through blogs to tell us what they think. Because this country is theirs. 80 percent of nigerians which below the age of 35, and whatever structure we design for Nigeria is for them. I have maybe a decade or two decades left, but these young people have years of their lifes ahead.

“So, the Nigeria we are trying to creat is for them, and we want to hear them, we want to hear what they think, what else do they want.

“And we are going to go round the country and we’ve set up virtually every social media platform‎. We have made available young people to sent us what they think on twelve key issues on the front burner regarding devolution, true federalism and whatever you call it.

“And when we get that, we will compile that and publish what Nigerians have said, we‎’ll make recommendations to our party and move on from there.” he stated

On posters suggesting him as possible replacement if President Buhari decides not to contest in 2019, he said “Look, my name has continuously been mentioned as a Presidential aspirant s‎ince 2007 after my years in the FCT, there is nothing new about that. What I want to say here very, very clearly is that I have never been a Presidential aspirant, I have never even been a governatorial aspirant.

“I am governor today by the grace of God because President Buhari called me and said go and run for Governor of Kaduna state. As far as 2019 is concerned, my position is the President is looking very well, he is recuperating very fast. My hope and prayer is he will contest in 2019.

“Everything that our group is doing, and we have a group. We have a Buharist amongst governors, ministers. Our group wants to ensure that President Buhari runs in 2019. If he chooses not to run he will tell us which direction to go.

“We are Buharist, we don’t have any personal ambition, we don’t have any personal aspiration and we are waiting for him to decide. And every political effort we are making, every structure we are creating….. And we know many people that have already started campaigning, they want to tag some of us as part of the probem and we are ready for them.

“But our political ideology is to support whatever President Buhari wants to support, that has not changed. And I want to assure you whatever names you hear, Nasir El-Rufai is not an aspirant for the presidency neither any of the governors that are known to be Buharists as well as some of the ministers that are known for from time.” he said

Akwa Utd targeting NPFL glory, says Alhassan

Akwa United’s Ibrahim Alhassan has claimed that the club are targeting Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) glory this season despite their shaky start.

“I don’t think there is much pressure playing NPFL, to me the hardest thing about our league is the journey because sometimes we have to travel 17 hours to honour away matches,” Alhassan told Goal.

“I was happy for the goal I scored and most importantly the three points is much needed. That goal will give me the necessary boost to give my all to ensure that my team continues to win our games. Our target is to win the league at the end of the season; we will make sure we give it our all and see what will happen at the end.

“I will like to share this message with our fans; I know they have higher expectations from us this season but they have to be patient as we shall make sure that we make them proud.”

The Promise Keepers claimed their first win of the season after six matches and also went on to end Plateau United’s unbeaten start.

Alhassan’s goal over the weekend secured a much-needed win for United but having admitted that he was happy to have scored the wining goal, he was quick to note that winning has more importance.

Alhassan celebrates brace on Wikki debut

Ibrahim Alhassan has expressed delight at netting a brace  for the Elephants against Kano Pillars on Sunday.

“I’m very glad to have started my professional career with Wikki Tourist more so that I came from the bench to score two goals,” Alhassan told Goal.

“I’ve never played in a professional league since I left the national U-20 team, Wikki Tourist is the first professional club I’ve signed for.  I’ll play till the end of this season at Wikki and I’ll have an option to discuss a two and half year deal.”

“Team work is a key factor and it’s resident in the team. The quality of our team, the technical crew and the support of the Bauchi State government  has helped immensely. We shall by God’s grace make the fans proud, we shall make history by the end of the season,” he said.

Alhassan levelled for Wikki in the 77th minute with a header and added another in stoppage time, while former Kano Pillars forward, Abubakar Lawal scored in the 84th minute from the spot to seal a 3-1 win.

The Elephants have sat at the top of the NPFL log since the second half of the season began, and Alhassan believes that team work can see the Bauchi-based club through till the end of the season.

FG will facilitate passage of Disability Bill, says Alhassan

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Jummai Alhassan, has assured that the federal government will facilitate the passage of the Nigerian Disability Bill.

She spoke in Abuja at an event to mark the 2015 International Day of Persons with Disabilities with the theme ‘Inclusion Matters: Access and Empowerment for people of All Abilities.’

The theme was aimed at empowering people with disability towards maintaining the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) agenda.

She said disability was one of the major challenges that continually threaten human existence and the attainment of meaningful development, noting that marking the day was a wake-up call in ensuring the domestication of the law in Nigeria.

She further explained that the UN conventions on the rights of persons with Disabilities by Nigeria in 2007 and 2010 were geared towards the development, care and welfare of persons with disabilities.

The minister also said that the aim of the call was to awaken UN member states toward encouraging and promoting activities that would ensure interaction, mainstreaming and empowerment of persons with disabilities.

While urging the society to assist and empower people with disabilities, especially in the areas of job creation, health, nutrition, education as well as social protection, the minister added, “It is only when people are empowered that they can prepare to take advantage of opportunities and become agents of change and can more readily embrace their civic responsibilities.’’

In her address, Mrs. Binta Bello, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, said the objective of the day was to create awareness, promote understanding of disability issues and mobilise support for dignity and rights of persons with disabilities.

Bello, who gave an estimated number of 19 million Nigerians living with disabilities, noted that it was an area that must be given adequate attention.

The permanent secretary urged stakeholders to work out plans that would meet the needs of such persons, adding that budgetary allocations could not shoulder all their needs.

  • I ‘m still pursuing my election petition – Alhassan

I ‘m still pursuing my election petition – Alhassan

Ministerial nominee, Senator Aisha Jummai Alhassan has said that she is still pursuing her governorship election petition pending before a tribunal in Taraba state

She contested the last governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Ishaku Dahiru of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“My nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari has nothing to do with my ongoing election petition. President Buhari will not prevent me from going ahead with the case”.

On corruption in the judiciary, Alhassan said the problem is not only about money. “When a judge exercises his discretional powers injudiciously, it is corruption.

“When a bailiff fails to papers on a party to litigation for favour, it is corruption. When a lawyer tells his client to plead not guilty even when he knows the client is guilty, it is corruption.

“Corruption is perpetrated by judges and lawyers in many ways. Lawyers ingratiate with  judges and make friends with them. They then lobby to have their cases assigned to such judges.

“We all know that judges are also human beings capable of being influenced by their friendship with their lawyer friends”, says the grandmother of 12 children.”
