    Obaseki, others eulogise Senator Alimikhena’s wife

    The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Friday, led top government functionaries and other dignitaries to the funeral mass of the wife of former Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Francis Alimikhena, Monica, who died at the age of 69 years.

    Speaking to journalists after the funeral mass, the governor described the late Mrs. Monica Emesomia Alimikhena as a very quiet, committed and prayerful woman, who was very devoted to the development of her community and the State.

    Other guests at the event were the Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu; Sen. Adams Oshiomhole; former Governor of Edo State, Prof. Osariemeh Osunbor; former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Chief Mike Ogiadomhe and the Chairman of Edo State Peoples Democratic Party, Anthony Aziegbemi, among others.

    Obaseki further said, “I had the privilege of interacting with her in her lifetime. She was a very lovely woman. During my campaign in 2016 and also as a Governor, I visited her house in Abuja and will not forget the good and lovely meal she used to prepare for me.

    “She was very quiet, committed and a prayerful lady who always saw progress and always prayed for her husband, the State and all those who interacted with her in her lifetime. We would miss her but we thank God for her life and what she represented and pray for God to rest her soul in peace.”

    The governor also added, “It’s a difficult time for our Senator Francis Alimikhena. I have been with him and knew when the challenges of her health started and we need to pray for him and pray the Lord strengthen him for he is in a difficult time especially now.”

    In his sermon, the Bishop of Auchi Diocese of the Catholic Church of Nigeria, Archbishop Gabriel Dunia, urged mothers to emulate the life of late Alimikhena, who he said was fervent in prayers, guiding her family till her last days.

    “Our mummy prayed for all those who came across her in life and as mother, that should be our duty. Mothers should pray for the family to enable the society to raise good leaders who will lead and govern our people, the State and nation. I encourage all of us to participate in the governance of the State and serve the people truthfully irrespective of their personal interests.

    “Our mummy led her family faithfully through difficult times and life challenges and we all have many lessons to learn from her life.”

    The son of the deceased, John Alimikhena, thanked the governor, his entourage and other guests for gracing the occasion and supporting the family at the time of their grief.

  • Alimikhena urges support for Buhari

    Senate Deputy Chief Whip Francis Alimikhena, yesterday urged Nigerians to expect more dividends of democracy from President Muhammadu Buhari.

    The Edo North Senator said that President Buhari has shown steadfastness with his promise that he was “indeed for nobody, but for everybody by giving voice to the collective aspirations and yearnings of Nigerians.”

    Alimikhena added that the President has demonstrated “statesmanship, trust and dedication to the service of humanity.”

    “We may not have gotten to where we want to be, but we are also not in the same place where we used to be as a nation.”

    Alimikhena, who is also a contender for the Deputy Senate President in the ninth Senate, in his congratulatory message, commended President Buhari for his humility in victory.

    He said: “President Buhari has served his pact with Nigerians and it behooves on Nigerians to stand together in adversity and overcome the threat to our national development.”

    He appealed to those fanning embers of crisis at various quarters to embrace peace for the purpose of our common destiny.

    Alimikhena said: “Destiny has placed a burden on us as Nigerians to work together for peace and unity of our country. Irrespective of our religion and political divide, we must rise to the occasion and salvage our country from retrogression collectively and individually”

    “Nigeria belong to Nigerians and not any individual. It is wrong to subject the nation to an unusual unrest to satisfy individual ambition. We must together forge a common front for the peace, progress and stability of our nation.

    “Meaningful democracy cannot be achieved without opposition but we must also be challenged with the fact that there is no government better than that in which everybody is involved irrespective of party platforms. Good governance is the elimination of premodial interest by upholding public interest above party affiliations.

     

     

  • APC senators ’ll dominate Ninth Assembly, says Alimikhena

    RETURNING senator representing Edo North Francis Alimikhena has declared that the Ninth Assembly would be dominated by members of All Progressives Congress (APC).

    Alimikhena spoke in Auchi after he was declared winner of the senatorial election.

    He defeated his opponent in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Abubakar Momoh, an engineer.

    Declaring the results, the Returning Officer, Prof. Moses Osawaru, said Alimikhena scored 117,783 votes to defeat Momoh, who got 80,752 votes.

    Osawaru said the senatorial district had a total of 633,384 registered voters with 204,920 votes cast and 5,208 voided votes.

    Osawaru said: “Francis Alimikhena of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”

    Alimikhena thanked the people for re-electing him and assured them of adequate representation and massive development.

    “The 9th Assembly will be dominated by the All Progressives Congress members and the people of my senatorial district will witness increased developmental projects in the area.”

  • Oshiomhole’s removal will trigger political tsunami – Alimikhena

    Senate Deputy Whip, Senator Francis Alimikhena, has warned that any attempt to remove the APC National Chairman will trigger a political tsunami from which the APC will not recover.

    He said “those clamouring for Oshiomhole’s removal are the vocal minority who do not wish the party well but want to wreck APC because of their personal parochial interest.”

    The Edo North Senator who spoke to reporters at the weekend in Asaba, Delta State, cautioned those instigating crisis in the party to allow Oshiomhole to reposition the party for the overall good of Nigerians.

    According to him, “Oshiomhole is enjoying the support of the president, members of the National Assembly and various state party chairmen are standing with him. We cannot trade away the national chairman who has recently delivered the party in various states governorship election to justify parochial interest.

    Alimikhena warned that any attempt to remove Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the National Chairman of the APC may trigger a political tsunami for the APC in the 2019 general election which the party may never recover from.

  • Alimikhena: I will not dump APC

    SENATE  Deputy Chief Whip Francis Alimikhena has said he has no plan to leave the All Progressive Congress (APC) for another party. He said the Ihonvbere Campaign organisation is peddling rumours about defection to discredit him ahead of the APC primary.

    In a statement, he said: “Edo state will be having all 3 Senators in the Peoples Democratic Party soon as report has it that Sen Francis Alimikhena is negotiating return to PDP. “

    The senator cautioned the Ihonvbere Campaign Organisation against endangering the peace and unity in Edo North APC.

    Alimikhena said he is not afraid to face Prof. Ihonvbere at the senatorial primary.

    He said the people are aware of his achievements as a senator.

    Alimikhena frowned at the publication linking him with defection, saying it was a deliberate attempt to create disunity between him and his leader, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

    He said he would rather resigned from active politics than joining the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to fight against  Oshiomhole.

    Senate Deputy Chief Whip and senator representing Edo North Francis Alimikhena has lauded the achievement of Governor Godwin Obaseki. He said that government and governance have assumed a new meaning in the state.

    He said: Edo State deserves to celebrate, if nothing else, looking back to our dark days of the PDP, compared to the standard in the state in terms of structure and facilities with high level of infrastructural development all over the state and a self motivated workforce. While we thank God today for where we are as a state, we should also not forget that it would have been worst, but for former Governor Adams  Oshiomhole and Governor Godwin Obaseki.”

    In a statement by his Personal Assistant, Benjamin Atu, to mark the 26th anniversary of the state creation, Alimikhena said: former Governor Adams Oshiomhole has made himself a conquering Model who move Edo State from a glorified local government area during the PDP era into a progressive State through purposeful leadership vis-à-vis infrastructural cum social economic development.

    He maintained that development was a mere political slogan in Edo State, until the time of Oshiomhole and Obaseki. “At 26 years old as a State, Governor Godwin Obaseki has made himself an unusual Governor in Nigeria by his silent revolution and focus on the rural communities to synchronise government development in the rural and urban areas in order not to make the rural areas dejected.

    While expressing great hope for the future of the state, the Deputy Chief Whip commended indigenes for their support and urged them to continue to sustain the tempo  and their children by supporting  Obaseki.“

    Senate Deputy Chief Whip  Francis Alimikhena has commended Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki for unveiling a new economic blue print for the state.

    He urged him to remain steadfast in his action and developmental activities. The senator from Edo North said the governor should not be distracted by praise singers and critics who are bent on faulting his actions or decisions. In a statement, Alimikhena said: “Godwin Obaseki has demostrated that he is a worthy successor and has no capacity in telling lies, but committed in building on the foundation already laid by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole who had laid a leadership benchmark for political office holders in Nigeria.”

    Alimikhena, who described Obaseki as a game changer, added:  “Since inception, Obaseki has displayed dexterity and passion by involving opposition party members,traditional rulers, students, traders, non-governmental organisation and critical stakeholders, to collectively think of a way forward for the state.

    “The action of the governor in exploring the best brains and effective ultilization of the state human resource as his think tank, irrespective of political affiliations, religious or ethnicity has fostered greater unity and confidence among our people in various parts of the state.”

  • Alimikhena flags off Ugbenor-Agenebode road rehabilitation

    Deputy Majority Whip of the Senate, Senator Francis Alimikhena, has flagged off the rehabilitation of seven kilometers Ugbeno-Ayogwiri-Fugar-Agenebode road at a cost of N450million.

    Alimikhena, who represents Edo North Senatorial District, said the road repair was in fulfilment of his electoral promises to ameliorate challenges being faced by motorists and commuters on the road.

    He urged the people to support the contractor handling the project to ensure timely completion of the work.

    the Deputy whip of the Senate, Senator Francis Alimikhena, has expressed shock over the sudden death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke.

    He express sadness for the loss, saying: “Senator Adeleke died when his services and wisdom was needed most by both the Senate, Nigerians and the people of Osun State where he has serve as the first civilian Governor with remarkable contribution and impact.”

    He added: “Senator Adeleke was a leader of rare character. He was an honest man, an extraordinary politician, a great leader and a man of principle. His character was legendary, particularly the demdemonstration of his vast knowledge and elderly wisdom in expressing his contributions in the Senate.”

    The Deputy whip who represent Edo North said: “Nigerians will certainly miss the man who left a lasting stamp in Osun State. He stressed: “Adeleke will be remembered for his very unique and purposeful leadership. He will also be remembered by Nigerians as a brave leader who has given the people of Osun State a worthy representation In the Senate.

    “While we joined the family to mourn the painful departure, He encouraged the people of Osun to find consolation in the fact that Senator Adeleke lived a life worthy of emulation and his contributions to humanity can’t be forgotten.

    “It is my prayers to our Heavenly Father to grant our great colleague and brother eternal rest. May God also comfort his family at this very difficult moment of grief.”
