  • APC disowns protesting youths

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressive Congress has disowned some members of the party who threatened not to work for the victory of the party in future elections in the state.

It said the members consisting mainly youths were dissident members of the party.

Some members of the APC led by Comrade Tony Kabaka had said that the APC risk losing Edo to the PDP in 2019 if Governor Godwin Obaseki did not change his style of governance.

Kabaka accused Obaseki of abandoning the youths and party leaders that worked for his victory in 2016.

But State Youth Leader of the APC, Mr. Valentine Asuen, who spoke at a press briefing described allegations by Kabaka as false and misleading.

Asuen said youths in the state have been involved in every policy initiative and programme of Obaseki through various organs of the APC.

He said the state government would no longer allow harassment of market women and drivers in the guise of collecting revenue by private contractors.

According to him, “The governor established EdoJobs portal, through which thousands of Edo youths have been gainfully employed while others have been trained on several skills.

“The Edo APC government ensured that all political appointees, namely; Commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants, among others, were nominated by the party structures in the 192 wards in the state.

“So, I do not know where Kabaka, perhaps, after waking up from the wrong side of the bed, got the information that Edo youths are not carried along by the Governor.

“The youths with the right skills and qualifications are being employed and trained daily through Edo Jobs portal and the Edo Innovation Hub, without knowing people in government.

“Thousands of the youths have been engaged through the Public Works Volunteer Scheme and the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA), who are adding value to governance on a daily basis.”

Asuen noted that the Obaseki led government is a sticker to the rule of law and would not be intimidated into succumbing to cheap blackmail by people whose interest is nothing but themselves.

“Never again will we allow the harassment, intimidation and assault of our market women and men in the name of revenue collection, more so, when technology-based revenue collection systems abound,” he said.

  • Oyo APC is United, Stronger says Shina Peller

All Progressive Congress, APC, chieftain and Federal House of Assembly Representative Aspirant, Chief Shina Abiola Peller has debunked the claim that APC Oyo state has been factionalized.

Speaking at the flag-off of his declaration and campaign as an aspirant running for the House of Representative of the National Assembly representing the Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajow a federal constituency, Peller said APC, is united and stronger than ever.

He emphasized that Nigerians should dispel rumors that the Oyo state APC is divided as such news is only being circulated by mere mischief makers, adding that such people are and should be treated as enemies of the state.

“I don’t believe there are factions within APC in Oyo State, what I believe and preach are that, we are as strong as we are united and we are as weak as we are divided. I know the noise about factions and division is to weaken our strength as a party and confuse us as a people. Therefore, I will never ever in my life entertain any faction.

“APC is one in Oyo State and we will do everything within our power to make sure that unity is maintained. Anyone who carries the factional ideology does not have the love of the people at heart, I am APC and I belong to everybody,” He added.

Speaking with newsmen on the reason for joining the National Assembly political race, he said, “I have decided to join this political race because my people have spoken to me and I have listened.

“My people know my worth, my achievements and having somebody that can actually represent this constituency has been a challenge, I cannot afford to be selfish, I have to think about the less privileged too”.

Peller also disclosed that his mandate for the people is unity for progress, highlighting that the Oke-Ogun constituency is only relatively relevant is during election but his candidature will breach the current gap of irrelevancy and bring about even development in the entire Oke-Ogun constituency.

Meanwhile, the House of representative aspirant during his declaration also launched his empowerment and grassroots development programme which he called Shina Ayo Empowerment Programme, SAEP.

According to him, the empowerment programme is currently more on empowering youth and women which will spread across the four zones in Oke-Ogun even up to ward level.

While Peller urged the youth to be patients for the said developments to materialize, he however charged them to register, vote, and engage in politics, while shunning political thuggery.

“The young people of Nigeria are the most powerful single block in the country, we would not allow ourselves to be used by people who do not have our interest at heart,” he stated.

In his words, the Executive Chairman, Itesiwaju Local Government of Oyo State, Mr. Niyi Adeagbo noted that Shina Peller’s declaration and the wealth of experience his bringing into politics will set a high standard for 2019 political aspirants in Oyo State.

He said, “The party primary is just 60 to 90 days away and will are committed to delivering our local government to ensure Shina wins the party ticket and subsequently the elections.

“The perceived crisis within our party in the state is as a result of contrast interests and it’s normal in politics. The leaders of our party, Governor Abiola Ajimobi and other concerned party stakeholders are working round the clock to ensure conflicting interests are resolved and we shall come out victorious just like in 2015.”

  • 2019: APC suffering from pre-defeat trauma, says PDP

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the All Progressive Congress (APC) is on the “throes of death” and that its “panic-stricken” leadership has resorted to fabrications and cheap blackmail against those leaving their sinking ship in droves.

The opposition party said the APC has become intensely nervous and chaotic over the soaring popularity of the PDP as well as the surge of Nigerians, across board, into its fold as a “repositioned and rebranded party”.

The party also said it was not surprised that the APC, out of frustration, has resorted to sponsoring of spurious publications filled with deceptions, fabrications and lies against the PDP.

A statement on Sunday by the spokesman of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, added that the ruling party was particularly unsettled by the “huge successes” recorded by the Liyel Imoke-led PDP Contact and Integration Committee, in seamlessly galvanizing alliances among stakeholders across other parties, including those returning from the APC.

The statement said, “The APC is further disconcerted by the spirit of accommodation, agreement and oneness of purpose that pervade the alliances among old, new and returning members of the PDP in our key structure across all the states of the federation, particularly in Sokoto, Kogi, Kwara and Kano states, where all new and returning members have been accorded very warm reception.

“We know that the APC will stop at nothing in its sneaky efforts to cause confusion among our members, including suggesting that there are disagreements where none exists.

“What the APC, in its depravity and desperation, has failed to note is that the PDP had, since its repositioning, made adequate arrangements, ahead of time, to accommodate all interests and alignments in this collective quest to rescue our nation from the misrule of President Muhammadu Buhari, come 2019.

“The APC should come to terms with the fact that as the name of our great party connotes, the rebranded and repositioned PDP remains a party of all Nigerians and will continue to provide equal opportunity for all Nigerians to freely aspire, even for the highest position in the land, irrespective of creed, tribe or even previous party affiliations.

“We advise the APC leaders to further accept the fact that their party is now beleaguered with a demystified and unpopular presidential candidate and an unelected National Chairman who is overburdened by corruption allegations and as such can no longer produce a President that will be acceptable to majority of Nigerians.

“We therefore charge Nigerians to continue in their rally with the PDP as the epicenter of a new broad-based political engagement to rescue the nation and return her to the path of peace, unity and economic prosperity, come 2019”.

The carnival-like visit to the party secretary had in attendance thousands of Ayandele’s supporters who stormed the Oke-Ado office in customized Ankara and t-shirt bearing the image of the astute businessman, who also pledged to stand by the APC manifesto.

He said, “I am here at the APC Secretariat to declare my intention to be the next governor of Oyo State by the special grace of God. I want to thank the leadership of APC, thank Governor Abiola Ajimobi for having laid a very solid foundation upon which I intend to build upon. By the special grace of God, we will strictly adhere to the manifesto of the APC. Even after that, we would try to personalize it.

“What we will do is poverty alleviation, free education at all levels, free healthcare to the vulnerable women, children, infants. We will focus on Agriculture which will be the basis for our industrialization. In all of these, we will encourage regional integration as well as encourage our civil service to drive all government initiatives.

“As I told the party executives, I promise that when I become governor, by the 25th of every month, civil servants will collect their salary. On security, by the special grace of God, whatever the governor is doing right will be deepened, expanded and encouraged.

While speaking on the crisis rocking the state chapter of the ruling APC, Ayandele expressed optimism that true progressives remain in the mainstream of the party and that no matter the depth of the crisis or wherever they go, true progressive would always return.

“We are not worried because as a true progressive, there is nowhere we will go. The teeth and tongue will fight but they will not leave the mouth. The true progressive will find their way back. We will appeal to them and things will be fine. There has been a lot of efforts and people are discussing,” Ayandele said.

  • Igbo leaders: ‘We will vote Buhari in 2019’

    … Nigeria’s Presidency negotiable – Buhari

Notable Igbo leaders, Chieftains and members of the All Progressive Congress (APC), on Tuesday converged in large number in Owerri, the Imo State capital for a mega rally with a promise that the Southeast zone will support President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election in 2019.

They noted that the Southeast has benefited immensely from President Buhari’s administration in the last three years, more than what they got for the 16 years of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) administration.

Apart from this, the APC leaders said that supporting President Buhari’s second bid will brighten the chances of the zone to produce Nigeria’s president in 2023.

Speaking at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, venue of the event, the Igbo leaders took turn to highlight some of the landmark achievements the Buhari’s administration has recorded in the Southeast, with special emphasis on the second Niger Bridge and the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

Imo State Governor and Chief Host of the event, Rochas Okorocha, said that what President Buhari is doing in the Southeast has endeared his administration to the people.

In his words, “what we are celebrating here is the leadership of President Buhari. It is true that the Igbo made a mistake in 2015 but the Igbo believe in Buhari for 2019 and the Igbo are ardent followers”.

The Imo governor also dismissed insinuations that the APC is fragmented in the Southeast, stating that, “nobody should use the current misunderstanding in the party to judge the performance of the party in the Southeast. There are similar misunderstandings in other zones as well”.

Kano State Governor, Abdulahi Umar Ganduje in his speech acknowledged that the Southeast are truly in support of the President’s reelection.

He said, “With what I have seen today, it is clear that the Igbo has made a u-turn in politics and they are now in the centre of politics in Nigeria. I am impressed with the massive support for the APC and Mr. President”.

Former Governor of Bornu State and one time National Chairman of the PDP, Ali Mordu Sherriff in his brief speech, said that with the mammoth crowd that gathered for the rally the Igbo are for Buhari. “I have seen with my eyes and confirmed that the Igbo are for Buhari”.

Leader of the Southeast APC caucus in the House of Representatives, Nnanna Igbokwe, said that the Lawmakers are convinced that President Buhari’s administration has dealt favorably with the Southeast, assuring that “we will mobilize our people in large number in our respective states and vote for APC in 2019 to ensure that we give the President a resounding victory in the Southeast in 2019”.

The newly elected APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, in what appeared to be his first assignment, said that “I am left with no doubt that the APC has taken over the Southeast and our opponents will not sleep today in Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Abia over what is happening here today”.

He continued, “I want to salute the determination of the Imo State Governor, today he has shown who truly owns the land. I am truly impressed and I will tell the President that what I saw today is not a social media stunt but physical demonstration of support for the APC”.

In his response, President Muhammadu Buhari told Igbo that Nigeria’s Presidency has always been negotiated on the position of strength.

He said that the Igbo Presidency in 2023 will be possible if Ndigbo can invest the same skills and determination they deployed in the business sector into politics.

According to Buhari who was represented at the Southeast APC Mega Rally by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, “the Igbo should navigate their way into the centre of national politics by supporting the APC in 2019”.

He stressed, “what happens in 2019 will go a long way to determine the fate of the Igbo nation as it concerns the 2023 Presidency. So it is important that they put away party sentiments in the overall interest of the Igbo nation and ensure that the APC gets landslide victory in the Southeast”.

The President emphasized that Nigeria needs focused leadership to overcome the plethora of problems created by the PDP administration, “many people are running around to be the President of Nigeria but Nigeria is not a banana republic, what Nigeria needs now is a detribalized, honest, transparent and determined leadership and that is what President Buhari represents”.

Dignitaries at the event include, Modu Sherriff, former governor of Bayelsa State, Timinipre Silver, Kano State Governor, Abdulahi Ganduje, Senators Uche Ekwunife and Andy Uba, APC National Auditor, George Moghalu, APC National Organizing Secretary, Emma Ibediro, Anambra APC governorship candidate in the 2017 election, Dr Tony Nwoye and other members of the APC NWC.

  • Delta APC chides Fani-Kayode over derogating statements on Buhari

Delta State Chieftain of All Progressive Congress, APC, Prince Christopher Akpojotor Agaga has lambasted former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode over unguided statements issued against President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the Buhari is the best president the country has ever had since the inception of democracy in Nigeria.

Agaga who made this statement while reacting to a report in the national dailies with headline: OBJ, IBB, Jonathan, others not enemies of Nigeria, credited to Fani-Kayode, said the statement is not only a plot to smear the good name of President Buhari but to put the ex-leaders in conflict against the present APC administration.

On the report making around by Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo alleging Buhari’s administration of plan to frame him up and arrest him, Agaga said this should be sink to the mind Fani-Kayode that it was widely refuted by the presidency  and expressed what Fani-Kayode intend achieving by this publication.

While saying that Buhari’s government is one of the peaceful administrations so far, Agaga said Buhari has been in cordial relationship with the past leaders except those who has seen his corruption crusade as witchhunting because of their secret deals which they not want the APC government to bring to the open.

Agaga who reminded Kayode of the past administration of former President Obasanjo, said, “If the truth must be told there is no comparison between President Buhari and Obasanjo’s administration in the area of performance, applauding Buhari’s government of having done well in the past three years of his administration.

“Kayode while serving under Obasanjo was blinded to the many injustices and abuses unleashed by his master on hapless and innocent Nigerians. Because he no longer enjoys all the privileges and affluence associated with power, he has suddenly become a defender of human rights which himself and his master denied people of.

“Nigerians will recall that under Obasanjo, the people of Odi in Bayelsa state were massacred in thousands and hundreds of people were gruesome murder in Zaki Biam in Benue State, but what we have witnessed so far under Buhari are people with indifferent actions with the propensity for crimes which was not what the president swore oath to defend.

“Such crimes committed by Obasanjo are enough to warrant his arraignment before international criminal court of justice, yet he and his lieutenants bandy credentials that he is perceived by his actions to lack in and outside government.

“Several elected governors were harassed and hounded for holding and expressing views which the laws of the country vested them with. From Alamiesegha, Ibori, Ngige, Fayose, Tinubu, Dariye etc who had battles with Obasanjo for merely exercising powers duly delegated  to them to IGP Balogun who was disgraced in the worst humiliating circumstance over an unsubstantiated suspicion.

“Even against the orders of court, the people of Lagos state were denied their local government allocations for most of the tenure of Obasanjo in reaction to an action lawfully taken by governor Tinubu.

“The pains the people of Lagos had to contend with during those period the constitution was being brazenly raped did not prick the conscience of Obasanjo and his lieutenants who out of idleness and envy now parade themselves as crusaders and apostles of human rights.

  • June 12: Delta APC salutes Buhari for honouring Abiola, others

The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Delta state has described the conferment of the highest national honour of the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR), on the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief Moshood Abiola, by President Muhammadu Buhari as commendable and historic.

The party, in a press statement issued by its state Publicity Secretary, Mr Moses Kamanya, thanked President Buhari for the landmark decision of honouring Chief Abiola and other heroes of democracy  and for giving them their right places in history, where the previous governments had failed.

He added that the President awards to two other prominent Nigerians; Abiola’s running mate, Alhaji Babagana Kingibe, and the late human rights activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, with the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger, (GCON) is a proof that the president recognized the sacrifices of these leaders to the attainment of the present democracy.

The party noted that, “the posthumous award bestowed on Chief Abiola and others by the President has set the Nation on path of justice and truth because democracy has been given its right footing.

“The President declaration of June 12 as the new Democracy Day is a great moment for Nigerians; this decision has corrected the wrong of the past.

“President Buhari has shown once again by this proclamation that he is a Democrat and a believer of justice and truth, this will further bound us together as a nation and heal the wounds created as a result of the annulment.

He therefore, appealed to all APC fauthfuls in Delta state to remain united, noting that what the party need to upstage the PDP is united front, “to ensure that our destiny short changers and the anti-people government in Delta is sacked.

He also called on Deltans to remain resolute in their determination to vote out the PDP government in Delta state which has misappropriated the people’s common wealth come 2019.

He reiterated that Delta State remains “a low hanging fruit for the APC, therefore members should remain united in their pursuit to changing the PDP led government come 2019.”

According to Mr Kamanya, “our party leaders across the three senatorial districts, particularly; Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, Dr Ibe Kachukwu, Chief Great Ogboru, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Chief Hyacinth Enuha,  Engr. Samule Adjogbe,  Dr Caro Ojougboh, , Rt Hon Victor Ochie, Professor Pat Utomi and a host of others, are working round the clock to reposition the party for victory come 2019”.

  • It will be tragic for PDP to rule Abia for another 4 years – Apugo

A member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Prince Benjamin Apugo has said it will be tragic if the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) rules Abia State for another four years.

Speaking with select journalists at his Nkata Ibeku, Umuahia country home on Tuesday, Apugo said for the nearly 20 years the affairs of the state has been in the hands  of the PDP, Abia has suffered tremendously as there were practically nothing to show for all the years they have been in power.

“If the PDP rules the state for the next four years, there will be nothing like Abia State again, people will die of malnutrition and hunger because in the past 20 years PDP has been in power, there are no good markets, infrastructure and the general things that can create wealth in the state.”

The BoT member said the only way forward was for the people of the state to vote for APC in 2019 so that the needed change will come to the  state as in other APC controlled states across the country

He opined that the success recorded by President the Muhammadu Buhari- led administration in the fight against corruption and the amount so far recovered from looters has endeared him to the Igbo.

He noted that aside from the landmark achievements in the anti-corruption war, President Buhari will ensure that power is shifted to the Igbo in 2023 as there are assurances from the party.

According to him, “we the Igbo especially in Abia, are beginning to appreciate the achievements of the Federal government, we have nothing to fear under Buhari , APC will give us nomination in 2023.

When PDP was in power under former President Goodluck Jonathan, Boko Haram came to Abuja, bombed everywhere but now the President has fixed Nigeria by not only tackling the insurgents, stopping more corruption, he has just started it and he needs another four years.”

Speaking further on the decision of the nPDP to suspend further discussion with the Presidency, Apugo who is also a member, assured that the nPDP will not pull out of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We can’t leave the house we built, we helped the president to win election in 2015 through mass mobilisation, and he contested three times before and lost. The truth is that nobody should bring his personal problems to and put it on the nPDP as a bloc, we have talked with the party and the Federal government and we have agreed, the only mistake Buhari has made so far is neglecting us and not putting members of the nPDP in positions of trust. The bloc is a force because the nPDP ensured that Jonathan failed the 2015 presidential election.”

Apugo maintained there is no crack in the All Progressives Congress but called on the members of the nPDP to coordinate themselves and meet the president over marginalization faced by members of the nPDP in the non APC states while appealing to the President to create presidential liason offices in non APC-controlled States.

  • Aggrieved Edo APC leaders set to join SDP

Nobody will leave us, Party scribe

Some aggrieved leaders of the All Progressive Congress in Edo State are planning to dump the party for the Social Democratic Party.

Majority of the aggrieved leaders are said to be from Orhionmwon, Uhunmwode, Ovia North East, Oredo and Ovia South West all in Edo South senatorial district.

Their grouse, according to sources, include alleged abandonment by Governor Godwin Obaseki, hijacking of the party structures in their locality and not having a say no who gets what from the party.

One of the leaders said they have been placed at the back ground in the affairs of the APC in the state.

What further fueled their decision to leave the APC was alleged Governor Obaseki’s decision to give power to all party members and allowed party matters be handled through various organs of the party.

An indication to the planned defection by the aggrieved APC was Monday’s announcement of a chieftain of the APC in Uhunmwode and former Political Adviser to former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Mr. Charles Idahosa, to suspend further participation in all APC activities in the state.

Idahosa in a statement issued to journalists said he was not dumping the APC but needed to take a break “in order to carry out a deeper surgical analysis from a detached point of view”.

He stated that the great relief and comfort in his decision ‘rest in the fact that human beings may betray you but your heart cannot betray you’.

Idahosa noted that the facts that informed the actions of the Edo APC in recent times were strange to me and that he has struggled to come to terms with those facts and the consequential actions of the party.

He said, “Given the present state of affairs, I have decided to suspend active political partisan participation in the state. I believe the period will afford me the opportunity to seek an enlightened perspective of the issues, consult widely for clarifications where need be and take more informed position on the politics of Edo state.

“For every decision, there are consequences and possibilities. Yet, when a dog begins to bark at its owner, the dog owner should strut around in caution. That is the sobering epiphany of the present time.

“I am a proud and happy man with independent mind of my own. Resistance against curtailments of rights and oppressive tendencies is my second nature. God forbid that I should keep quiet in the face of a charade and injustice perpetuated with savage impunity.”

State Secretary of the APC, Mr. Lawrence Okah, said the party would discuss with identified aggrieved members and resolved the issues

Okah who denied speculations that Governor Obaseki’s visit to Uhunmwode local government at the weekend was to spite Idahosa said the party would receive defectors rather than people leaving the party.

He also said the just concluded APC congress in the state was the best across the country.

His words, “We will meet with Idahosa and find out what the issues are and resolved them. The more the merrier. People can be annoyed but the ability to resolve them is what matters.

“We know what they are talking about. We will work on it. We will have more people joining us and not anybody leaving us.

“What the Governor went to Uhunmwode for was development. He felt Uhunmwode was neglected by previous government and he want to ensure as a Governor the people feel the impact of his administration.

“He asked each Ward in Uhunmwode to have Uhunmwode Development Unit for the purpose of identifying areas of need.

“Our state congress was one of the best. We did consultation and negotiation. There was no congress at all. That was why there was no feasible crisis. We negotiate. We made it in a way that one leader cannot have all positions. We set a bench mark that each unit must have a representatives. What that implies is that a leader in Unit one cannot determine what will happen in another Unit.”
