Osun LG crisis: Only Supreme court can invalidate A’court verdict on reinstated excos—APC

The All Progressives Congress(APC) Osun State on Monday said only the Supreme Court can invalidate February 10, 2025 Appeal Court verdict that reinstated its members to take control of councils in the state.

The opposition party noted the fresh dismissal of another suit on Local Government at the Appeal Court in June 2025, never invalidated the earlier verdict by the same court.

A statement by the party through its State Legal Officer, Chief Adegoke Ogunsola warned the Osun State Govenor, Ademola Adeleke and Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) against inciting the public and court against the reinstated excos.

He said: “Since the duo lost the control of the local government administration in Osun State following the judgment of the Court of Appeal of 10th February, 2025, they have resorted to all manner of desperate antics to cause confusion in the interpretation of the Court of Appeal ruling of 13th January and the judgment of 10th February, 2025.

“The latest acts of mischief unleashed by the Governor and his party men were caused by the latest decision of the Court of Appeal of 13th June, 2025 refusing to relist the appeal of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The major reason for the refusal to relist the appeal is that the same Court of Appeal had decided the same issues raised by the Appeal in Appeal No. CA/AK/270/2022 in its judgment of 10th February, 2025 which reinstated the Chairmen and Councilors elected under the platform of APC during the October 15th 2022 local government elections.”

He added: “We urge security agencies and Nigerians to ignore attempt of desperation and harassment by the government of Mr. Ademola Adeleke and its PDP handlers to confuse the polity and seize by the force of arms the local government administration in the State of Osun.”

Reacting to APC, Adeleke in a statement through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed said he is committed to peaceful resolution on the LG crisis through legal means.

He reaffirmed that validly elected excos are that of PDP chairmen and councillors following the dismissal of their appeal in June 2025.

Osun council crisis: APC petitions Police, DSS over alleged recruitment of thugs to attack reinstated excos

The All Progressives Congress(APC) yesterday petitioned the Osun State Commissioner of Police (CP), Mohammed Abba, over alleged attempts by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s aides to recruit thugs to attack reinstated local government executives after a fresh Appeal Court verdict.

APC, in a letter addressed to the state Police Command and Department of State Service(DSS) dated June 16, this year, signed by the party’s Legal Adviser, Adegoke Ogunsola, held that the aides are inciting violence which is capable of causing breach of peace.

The letter obtained by The Nation alleged that the plans and incitement of violence are being hatched by some functionaries of the state government and state Chairman of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday Bisi.

“The information at our disposal is that plans are being perfected to recruit armed thugs that will be deployed to attack the Local Government Councils’ political functionaries who were elected on the 15th October, 2022 on the platform of APC,” he said.

APC urged the CP to deploy security tactics and strategies to ensure the safety of the political functionaries and their property in Council, who are members of APC.

However, the PDP Director of Media, Oladele Olabanji, said: “APC are always jittery on nothing. Perhaps they are afraid of their shadow. They know that, perhaps, that is what they do, when they were in government. But for us, we don’t have anything to do with violence.

“The governor being the leader of the state, if he were to be violent, I believe many of the APC leaders would not be in this state today.”

Adaramodu added that the endorsement was not misplaced on the pedestal of Governor Oyebanji’s  superlative performance in the district through good road networks, power supply to some towns, human capital development, allotment of strong political positions and many others.

“Before now, the nine of us in the National Assembly had earlier agreed that we will allow Governor Oyebanji to rule for eight years. He is very humble, very accessible, very local and ready to touch the lives of the people. The only thing we can do is to support him. The only agenda the south has now is to support and endorse  Governor Oyebanji and Mrs Afuye for second term”, he said.

APC Senatorial Chairman, Hon. Akindele Akinbobola, appreciated the party members for the initiative, saying the South Senatorial District was proud of the character and performance displayed by Oyebanji and his Deputy in the last two years.

The Chairman, APC Elders’ Forum, Ekiti South Senatorial District, Surv Biodun Aluko, said the verdict of endorsement was unanimously and unitedly done by party members across the 64 wards, saying the action was bereft of dissonances and division.

In fact, through Governor Oyebanji’s vision, our district had benefited healthcare facility, good road networks and youth empowerment. We appreciate this.

“We are happy with your vision in appointing our daughter, Mrs Monisade Afuye as the Deputy Governor. She understands the needs of our people. We also endorse her to continue with his Excellency for the second term that will run between 2026 and 2030”, he said.

Applauding the party members from the district for the unique honour, the State Acting Chairman of the APC, Sola Elesin, disclosed that the endorsement further amplified the fact that Ekiti people have confidence in the government of governor Oyebanji.

“Our governor is a man we are all proud of. He has become so popular two years into his administration among the masses. Our governor has not let us down. The South was looking up to something, which is to ensure that Governor Oyebanji and Mrs Afuye continue till 2030 and this shall come to fruition. But be loyal to the party and continue to mobilise for its success”, Elesin stated.

Representatives of the driver unions, traders, Okada riders, and commercial  tricyclists, all backed the endorsement, saying they valued the unity existing among all the members of the trade unions in the district and the state at large.

  • Obaseki dismisses rift with Oshiomhole

Oshiomhole, who is the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC) had kept mute on the alleged rift.

  • CSOs in Akwa Ibom indict PDP, APC over vote buying/intimidation

Civil society groups in Akwa Ibom State have said that both the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and the All Progressives Congress(APC) were involved in massive electoral fraud during the just concluded general elections in the state.

In fact, they said the February 23 and March 9 presidential/National and governorship/state house of assembly elections in the state were characterized by voter inducement and intimidation.

Chairman Civil Societies Forum in Akwa Ibom, Mr. Harry Udoh, who disclosed this to the Nation in a telephone interview at the weekend, said voters in the state were heavily induced and harassed by the two foremost political parties in both elections.

According to Udoh, findings indicate that the two political parties had started buying votes since December last year.

”Now if you ask me if people were induced or if there was vote buying, i will say yes even though i can’t substantiate it. The strategy was such that,  I think from December, they had started buying peoples minds.

”The massive voters intimidation and votes buying were perpetrated by both parties. Nobody can change my mnd on that. Perhaps the party with the biggest amount of money got the day but people went to the polling units and voted.

”I think that the people voted by themselves but they were induced by pecuniary benefits. The people actually went to the polling units, queued up, voted and the votes were counted at the end of collation of each election and the results announced at the polling units”’ he said.

Udoh also absolved the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) resident electoral commissioner(REC) in the state, Mr. Mike Igini of partisanship.

He specifically said there was never a time Igini said he was going to frustrate the APC from winning elections as alledged by spokesman of APC campaigns in the state, Mr. Eseme Eyiboh.

Eyiboh had accused the state REC of saying during a meeting with CSOs that he was going to ensure that APC loses elections in the state.

”Each time Mike Igini meets with civil society organizations in Akwa Ibom, I am always there as the chairman of civil societies forum in the state.

”We have never had that kind of discussion except I was not there when he said that. It is not true that he made that kind of statement”, Udoh said.

  • My accusers are those who wanted to buy me over – Igini

More startling revelations are still emerging from the controversies generated by the outcome of the general elections which held in Akwa Ibom state on the 23rd of February and 9th of March respectively.

Mike Igini, the resident national electoral commissioner in Akwa Ibom has been in the eye of the storm over the outcome of the elections.

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in the state have challenged the victory of Governor Udom Emmanuel, saying Igini colluded with the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) to rig the elections in favour of the umbrella party.

But Igini in a telephone interview with the Nation in Uyo last night said his accusers are the very people who tried unsuccessfully to buy him over so that he would compromise his integrity and constitutional responsibility to superintend over a free and fair electoral process.

Though he did not mention names of those who tried to lure him into shifting grounds on the elections, he revealed that he was invited by some politicians to a secret meeting abroad which he declined.

”The very people who wanted me to compromise are those who are accusing me. Those who wanted me to travel abroad to hold a secret meeting with and them and I said no.

”I said why do you want to go abroad and discuss the affairs of an electoral process outside Nigeria? Why do you want me to enter aeroplane and go to where? If you want to have a meeting with me come to my office.

”Since i have been in this state, anybody who says he has given me pure water(sachet water) let him or her come forward and say so. All those who contested the elections whether in PDP or APC or any party I don’t know them other than their lists of the names.

”As I speak to you, I don’t have their contacts, even those who won. If I see them on the way, I won’t recognise them”, Igini said.

The Akwa Ibom REC said some politicians in the state have refused to come to terms with the fact that the old tradition of writing fictitious results are over, adding that since 1999 no genuine elections have been conducted in the state until the last one under his watch.

”In Akwa Ibom, apart from 1999 they have not been delivering ballot papers results sheets  to polling units. They have been writing results in Akwa Ibom state. There were no genuine elections in the state and I said there has to be a paradigm shift to the side of the will of the people”, he said.

Spokesperson APC campaigns in Akwa Ibom, Mr. Eseme Eyiboh who reacted to the allegations, challenged Igini to mention names of his accusers who tried to compromise him as well as the country he was invited to for a secret meeting.

”The principle of law is very clear that whoever alleges should prove. If he has made such an allegation, then he has to prove just like the APC has made allegations against him.

”APC has substantially proven that how can a political party become your image manager. Look at the Vanguard newspaper of 28 January, page 39. Chieftains of the PDP paid for an advertorial threatening the INEC chairman not to redeploy Igini. Are they his employers?

”We have also told you that he(Igini) had a meeting with civil society forum which he told them clearly and it’s on record that under his watch APC can’t go anywhere in Akwa Ibom”, he said.

  • Police debunk alleged plan to kidnap Rivers REC

The Commissioner of Police (CP), in Rivers state, Usman Belel has debunked the alleged plan to kidnap the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), in the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship and state House of Assembly elections.

The state government through the Special Assistant to the Governor on Electronic Media, Simoen Nwakudu in a statement on Tuesday had raised an alarm on an alleged plan by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state to kidnap the State REC ahead of the polls to push for the postponement of the exercise in the state to a later date.

But the CP who apparently felt embarrassed by the development in a statement he signed in Port Harcourt, the state capital on Tuesday described the allegation as unfounded and unverifiable urged members of the public to disregard it.

He assured the people of the state that the command and other security agencies in the state are on top of the security of the state during the elections, insisting that nothing will go wrong.

The state security Boss said, “The attention of the Rivers State Police Command has been drawn to a Press Statement Signed by Simon Nwakudu , S.A to the Governor of Rivers State on Electronic Media , on the planned kidnap of the Resident Electoral Commissioner and  subsequent Postponement of the Gubernatorial and House of Assembly Elections Scheduled to hold on Saturday 9th March, 2019.

“The Nigeria Police Force being the lead Agency in Internal Security and on Election Security Duties is disturbed by this unverifiable, unfounded, baseless and malicious allegation and hereby wishes to refute and condemn the allegation in the strongest terms and to allay the fears and apprehension generated by that unnecessary and alarmist report by the Rivers State Government,” he said.

Speaking further said, “To this end, it has become increasingly necessary to refute that phantom allegation and herein State as follows:-

“The Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security    (ICCES) headed by the Commissioner of Police, ahead of the 2019 Elections met severally and fashioned out modules on the Security of the entire Election process, which was largely responsible for the successful conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly Elections in the State.

“The Committee remains irrevocably committed and untiring in its efforts to ensure that the Gubernatorial and State Assembly Elections scheduled to hold on Saturday are peaceful, credible and devoid of violence.

“The Rivers State Government, is levying this weighty allegation on the Security Agencies at this crucial moment, is indeed sad and unfortunate, when in actual fact, the Security Agencies should be encouraged and prayed for by all and sundry, to entrench a credible process that will stand the test of time.

“The allegation of kidnap of the Resident Electoral Commissioner and postponement of the Elections, are all serious issues that touch on State Security, hence they will be thoroughly investigated, to ascertain the veracity or otherwise and bring anybody or group found complicit to Justice.”

Belel appealed,  “Consequently, may I at this point appeal to the Residents of the State to remain calm and go about their normal activities, as there is no cause for alarm.

“The allegation, for all intents and purposes, is politically motivated and only intended to heat up the polity and create unnecessary tension in the State.

“It is further noted, albeit, regrettably, that, the  allegation is a calculated attempt to undermine and overreach the Security Agencies and the  Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), hence I call on the good people of the State  and the public at large, to disregard and discountenance same, as lacking in merit .

“Finally, I want to use this medium to reiterate our commitment to serve you better, remain professional, focused and provide a level playing field for all the Political Parties and the Electorates to exercise their franchise.” he pledged.

  • PDP senatorial candidate, Amusan, 50,000 supporters back APC’s Abiodun

Former House of Representatives member and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State on Wednesday formally announced his defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress(APC).
Amusan, who represented Abeokuta North, Obafemi Owode and Odeda Federal Constituency for eight years on the platform of PDP, said he is leaving former party for the ruling APC with over 50,000 thousand supporters he has been nurturing in the last 19 years.
The property magnate, who was also the senatorial candidate of PDP in the last National Assembly election  for Ogun Central, told reporters during a press briefing  in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital that his defection would further boost the chances of Prince Dapo Abiodun succeeding Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
Amusan said he knows the capacity of Abiodun as a successful entrepreneur and business man, saying he is the type of man the Gateway state required now to run the affairs of the state, urging his supporters and Ogun people to cast their ballot for the APC governorship hopeful.
He also called on the electorate to support the candidacy of Abiodun and desist from the habit of making unnecessary demand from those who signify interest to serve, saying such attitude would scare away people with genuine desire to serve.

  • President: we’ll reclaim stolen votes in Akwa Ibom

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday assured the All Progressives Congress(APC) family in Akwa Ibom that the party’s votes which were stolen during the February 23 presidential/national Assembly elections would be reclaimed.

Buhari gave the assurance yesterday in Uyo during a Town hall meeting to appreciate Akwa Ibom electorate for casting their ballot for the (APC) on February 23.

Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who represented the President, encouraged the electorate to defend their votes during the Governorship and House of Assembly elections.

He stated that it was not possible for Senator Godswill Akpabio to have lost the election, adding that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) robbed him and the party of victory, and that all the wrongs that were done during the Presidential and National Assembly elections would be addressed.

He said: “What happened on the 23rd of February was robbery. The votes of the people was stolen but we are not deterred. The President sent me to thank you today. We are going to make sure that everything that was stolen on the 23rd February would be restored.

“It is not possible that Senator Godwill Akpabio lost. We are in no doubt that Senator Akpabio is the elected senator of Akwa Ibom North West senatorial district. I, and Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of party have been in the opposition for long and we cannot be defeated anymore.

“Everyone of you should go out to vote on Saturday and defend your votes; we cannot be cheated; not only you, but tell your neighbours to vote for Obong Nsima Ekere and all APC candidates. Wait for your votes to be counted. It is the duty of the Federal Government to provide security and we will do that. We will recover every one of our votes.”

Also speaking, Oshiomhole said the party was not in the state to lament but to thank the people of the state for doing their jobs and voting President Buhari.

  • Army disagrees with A’Ibom PDP over link with election rigging

The Nigerian Army has disagreed with the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for misinterpreting its show of force exercise as a veiled rigging exercise in favour of the All Progressives Congress((APC).
The state PDP in a statement signed by it’s spokesman, Comrade Iniobong Ememobong alleged that the plan by the army and other security agencies to stage a show of force ahead of Saturday’s governorship/assembly polls was a rehearsal to help the APC rig the  elections.
However, in a swift reaction, the assistant director, Army Public Relations Officer for 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, Major Bashir Jajira said the allegation is far from the intention of the army.
Addressing newsmen during the show of force in Uyo on Saturday, the army spokesperson explained that 10 LGAs in the state, including; Ukanafun, Etim Ekpo, Ikot Ekpene, Oron, and Uyo among others were security flash points.
He said the army will deal decisively with ballot snatchers in such areas.
But the PDP has dismissed the show of force security agencies in the state as a smokescreen to aid the Army high command to deploy military personnel to aid in the hijack of election materials in favour of the APC.
The party appealed to the army to desist from partisan politics and to remain professional in line with their Rules of Engagement, adding that such is the only guarantee for a thriving democracy.
“The recent show of force and subsequent declaration of 10 “local Government areas as flash points by the Nigerian army is a veiled rigging plan for the APC. This plan we have learnt was hatched after the failure of the army to effectively intervene at the Ikot Ekpene collation center to save the Warsaw general and failed Senator, Godswill Akpabio. .
“As a party we are at a loss as to the foundation or basis for the declaration of those areas as flashpoints. It is common knowledge that no casualty was recorded in the last elections in Akwa Ibom state, unlike other states where scores of people were killed and maimed. We will like to remind the military that their primary duty is the protection of the territorial sovereignty of our country and not to take over civil policing, except in extreme circumstances (which elections do not fall within).
“We hereby totally reject the proposed militarization of our elections and refer them to the judgment in the case instituted by President Muhammadu Buhari, who then was candidate of the APC in 2015 on the role of the military in elections.
“We again call on the Chief of Defence staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Army Operations and the entire Army High command to direct the GOC 6 Division to immediately withdraw the over 30 soldiers attached to Obong Nsima Ekere, the 15 soldiers attached to Chief Godswill Akpabio and the 8 soldiers attached to Senator Ita Enang
“As an indication of complicity between the Army and the APC currently in operation, it was the APC Governorship candidate who posted the news, even before the Army authorities pronounced it. The APC in Akwa Ibom has been boasting lately that, what the police under the ignoble watch of AIG Kimo could not do, the Army will do. Our obvious reply is found in the scriptural proclamation, “who is he that says a thing and it comes to pass, when the Lord has not commanded”.
PDP also used the medium to discourage superior military officers  from becoming subjected to politicians in expectation for favourable postings and appointments.
“Finally, to the soldiers who are preparing to be deployed, we advice them to brace up to meet with the divine army of God which will be on duty on that day to guide His people and protect them from harm. Our party like always will trust in the name of the Lord our God, who is able to do all things, while the opposition will as usual,  put their hopes on their horses, chariots and soldiers(Federal Might)”. The release added
The party therefore encourage Akwa Ibom people to head out enmasse to their polling units and vote massively for what it described as “the sustenance of the prevailing peace, the continuation of the prosperity and the comprehensive development that the Udom Emmanuel administration represents”.
