    Agu hopeful injured Nwabali returns for AFCON  2025 

    Former  Super Eagles’  goalkeeper  trainer Alloy Agu believes Stanley Nwabali still has a chance of making the 2025 AFCON squad despite his injury.

    Nwabali has not featured since the World Cup playoffs due to a persistent fitness setback.

    Agu admitted the goalkeeper remains sidelined but shared that the player is optimistic about returning soon.

    He expressed hope that Nwabali could recover in time, though he acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his availability.

    The Chippa United star remains one of Nigeria’s top goalkeeping options heading into the tournament.

     “The competition among the four goalkeepers is stiff and it is bringing the best out of them, “Agu spoke on radio.

    The Super Eagles Assistant Coach revealed that the four keepers’ will feature in the friendly matches against Congo DR in Port Harcourt on Monday (Today) and the Three Lions of England at Wembley on June 2nd.

    Meanwhile, Eagle German tactician has listed 20 players with three spots left for him to complete his final 23-man list for the World Cup which commence on June 14.

    The 64-year old is expected to make his mind on who will start in goal-post after Today’s formative match against The Leopards and The Three Lions on Saturday and the two assistant goalkeepers.

    Eagles versus Congo match is expected to kick off by 6:00pm at the Adokiye Aimesimaka Stadium.

    Alloy Agu Begs Nigerians to Forgive Daniel Akpeyi

    The goalkeeper trainer of the Super Eagles, Alloy Agu, has begged Nigerian football fans to forgive goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, who was widely blamed for the goals Nigeria conceded against South Africa.

    Bafana Bafana beat the Eagles 2-0 in their first 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers last Saturday.

     Agu speaking after the game, assured Nigerians that the technical crew is doing their best to beef up the team in all departments and called for calm as the team is still a work in progress.

    “We, the technical crew, are currently doing our best to make sure we put smiles in our fans’ faces. From the goal keeping department down to the midfield and attack, everything is still work in progress.

    “I am sure our fans will be waiting to see a better performance in our next game. I am using this medium to apologize for the team woes.

     “We will do all our best to make sure the goal keepers and players work hands in hand to eradicate all mistakes committed in the match with the South Africans in Uyo.
    “We know the danger in losing an opening game, especially at home and I am confident we will pull surprises,” Agu said.

    No goalkeeper crisis in Eagles -Alloy Agu

     

    Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Alloy Agu has dismissed fears in some quarters that goal keeping department might pose a problem as the team shapes up for series of world cup and Nations Cup qualifiers respectively.

    The fears are not unconnected with injury worries for current number one and Wolverhampton Wanderers safe hand Carl Ikeme forcing the technical crew to leave him out of the France friendly.

    In a swift reaction however Alloy Agu maintained that there is no cause for alarm as the goalkeepers in camp are not only in top shape but are capable of holding their own any day.

    While admitting that it is the prayer of every coach to always have his players free of injuries and in top shape, such intermittent injuries he noted  cannot be ruled out in the game of football, adding that players always overcome such temporary draw backs to regain fitness.

    The goalkeepers in camp he added have been tested and have the needed qualities to rise to the occasion.

    “There is nothing like goalkeeping crisis in the Eagles.  We have goalkeepers that have been tested and who are capable of and ready to do their job, so there is no cause for alarm and Nigerians need not worry,” he assured

    Two goalkeepers Ikechukwu Ezenwa whose profile and confident has continued to grow, and Dele Alampasu made Eagles list for Friday’s friendly against Corsica in France. Ezenwa who plays for FC IfeanyiUba had prior to jetting out to France opined that his business is to always put in 100% effort at all times. The friendly against Corsica will be followed by that against Hawks of Togo at the same venue.

    The double header is expected to help the technical crew select a formidable team that will ensure resounding victory against Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the Nations cup qualifier billed for the Nest of Champions Uyo, Akwa Ibom state June 10.

    Eagles won’t lose form after Xmas – Agu

    Super Eagles goalkeeper coach, Alloy Agu, has said the side will not experience loss of form after the Yuletide break.

    The team is expected to embark on a Christmas holidays on Wednesday and return on Saturday to continue with the preparations for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Kigali, Rwanda, in January, supersport.com reports.

    Agu said the players are professionals and will not lose focus on the daunting task at hand while with their respective families.

    “I want to believe that they players know what is at stake, I equally believe they have Nigerians at heart as well as their expectations at the forthcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda.

    “We understand that family is important especially this festive period. That’s why we are allowing them few days to celebrate festivity with their families.

    “We agreed on the need to stay focus while the Yuletide holidays last and to come back better players to continue on the programme for CHAN.

    “They are core professionals and we do not expect them to abuse the rare privilege,” he told supersport.com.

    Nasarawa United appoint Alloy Agu as goalkeeper trainer

    The management of Nasarawa United has appointed former Super Eagles coach Aloy Agu as a goalkeeper trainer.

    The club’s media officer, Musa Elayo told SportingLife that the ex-international has reported to the team’s camp in Lafia.

    According to Elayo, Agu’s appointment is part of the management’s re-organisation efforts to position the club among the best in the country.

    The Solid Miners have already appointed former Kano Pillars coach, Mohammed Baba Ganaru as Technical Adviser and Dogo as his assistant.

    Elayo said the appointment of the trio has brought a breath of fresh air to the team.

    “I have no doubt in my mind that we have the best of coaching crew in Nasarawa United now. The trio of Baba Ganaru, Kabir Suleiman Dogo and Aloy Agu are the best things any club could wish for,” Elayo said.

    “After the signing of Ganaru and Dogo, we thought it wise to bring in an experienced goalkeeper trainer and we went for Alloy. Alloy has played at the highest level and we are happy that he is with us. He has resumed with us and everything is working perfectly. The team is training everyday now.”
