NYG  2025: Volleyball gold thrills Edo  Sports Commission boss

The Executive Chairman of Edo State Sports Commission, Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has attributed Team Edo’s success at the ongoing 9th National Youth Games in Asaba to meticulous preparations and commitment to grassroots development.

Enabulele, while celebrating the state’s triumph in the Beach Volleyball event, said the victory did not come as a surprise considering the team’s impressive performance during the zonal eliminations.

“We have to attribute our success to proper preparations. Team Edo prepared very well for this tournament. We expected the gold medal in the Beach Volleyball because we saw what they did during the zonal eliminations for Team games. It was a proper final. It was like a family game throughout the encounter but our girls never gave up. They fought till the end,” he said.

He further  stressed that the commission’s programmes go beyond the current Games, as the state remains committed to grooming young talents through sustained grassroots initiatives.

“When you talk about grassroots development the state is number one because we have lots of programmes to keep the discovered athletes in shape ahead of future competitions,” he added.

Enabulele also commended Delta State for hosting a transparent competition where fairness has prevailed.

“So far I think it has been fair. Everyone has come out to compete. This is not about hosting to win. Generally, what we usually experience is quite different from what is happening here and I must give kudos to Delta State for that. This is a pure tournament and no home advantage with all states almost contesting fairly,” he noted.
