“I won’t say I’m happy with the outcome of the match however it’s still better than losing the entire points.

“We will work on the lapses to ensure we come out with a different approach in our next match at Sunshine Stars,” said the former Sharks coach to supersport.com.

The point against Warri Wolves adds Rangers total earnings to 41 points from 99 points in the 33-week old Nigerian top flight.

    Amapakabo backs Enyimba for title

Enugu Rangers head coach, Imama Amapakabo, is of the view that former CAF Champions League winners,Enyimba are favourites to win the Nigerian top division this season.

Amapakabo, a former coach of Enyimba, believes that it will be difficult for the Peoples Elephant to be dislodged from the summit of the Glo Premier League as they hold a three-point lead over the chasing pack until they play Heartland in the southeasy derby on Sunday.

“You are putting me on the spot right now. I think with Enyimba’s position they are in pole position (to win the league title),” said Amapakabo.

Though Amapakabo is tipping the team of his former employers to win the top flight for a record seventh time, he is more concerned with the chances of how his team finish this campaign.

After a 3-3 draw at Abia Warriors on Saturday, Amapakabo is hopeful that his team can win their six remaining fixture to take their total points to 62 and qualify for either the CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup.

Amapakabo is also quite confident that there is the possiblity of winning their remaining league matches of the season to brighten their chance of a top-three finish. Rangers’ remaining games are against Warri Wolves (home), Sunshine Stars (away), Kano Pillars (away), Akwa United (home), Lobi Stars (away) and Bayelsa United (home).

“Every captain will always say his ship isn’t going to sink. But realistically if we win all six of our remaining games we will have 18 points and have a chance at the continent. (It is) very possible (to win all six remaining games). My players have the mentality to win games, and I play to win all the time. Our next game we hope to win and the next one after that,” said Amapakabo.

Rangers are currently in 11th position with 44 point and are nine points off the pace on the top-three clubs in the Glo Premier League standings.

Amapakabo says 3SC tie will be tough

Enugu Rangers head coach, Imama Amapakabo has said his side are expecting tough challenge in the clash against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC).

The Coal City side will welcome the Oluyole Warriors to their slaughter abode, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu for Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match day 29 fixture clash.

Amapakabo said the encounter will be interesting as the opponents have chalked up heartwarming results in their recent past matches.

“We are expecting good challenge from 3SC given the good results they have picked in their recent past matches. The encounter is certain to be entertaining and interesting with the long existing rivalries between both sides.

“However, despite the hiccups and challenges facing us at the moment we hope to put up a good fight for the whole three points at stake. We lost a game in Owerri against Heartland coming into the Sunday’s clash we need to raise our game to be able to get the whole points.

“We are mindful of the fact that our position on the league log is not really comfortable another draw or loss will worsen our plight. I think the situation we are right now calls for genuine sacrifice from all and sundry in order to halt the drift.

“Victory against 3SC will booster our confidence and morale going into the next matches on the calendar,” said the former Enyimba and Sharks coach to supersport.com.

The Flying Antelopes are 12th on the 20-team Nigerian top flight log on 37 points from possible 84 in the 28-week old league.

Amapakabo said his side would have picked more points than they did from both legs if not some sore missed chances.

“I feel bad with the 1-1 score line at Enyimba as this is a game we deserved to get more than just a point.

“Picking just a point out of six is not really a good one for us in the ongoing league season.

“In both legs of the encounters we created more chances which we did not use and I do not understand why the players allowed those chances to go unused.

“Now we know we have issue with goal scoring, we will go back to work on the lapses aimed at coming out far better in subsequent matches.

He said his understanding with the players was behind the club’s recent form.

“There is no magic involved but just the simple belief of the players in my ability and I also trust their loyalty. With this perfect chemistry, I believe we will go places,” he explained.
