    Minister lauds Amo Farm’s role in food security

    The Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, has commended Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Limited, a player in Nigeria’s livestock sector and the developer of the Noiler chicken breed, for its contributions to agricultural growth.

    He lauded the role of Noiler, a dual-purpose bird for both meat and eggs, in enhancing food security and empowering rural communities, especially women.

    The Minister gave the commendation during his recent tour of the company’s breeder farms and hatcheries in Awe, Oyo State, while gaining firsthand insight into its large-scale poultry operations.

    He stressed the importance of scaling up Noiler production through village-based cooperatives and farmer-supplier out-grower models. This approach, he noted, would enhance the availability and affordability of animal-based protein nationwide.

    The Minister, who said he had previously purchased Amo Farm’s day-old chicks for his farm, expressed interest in future collaboration with the company. “For us in the Ministry, these are the types of partners we want to identify and work with, he said.”

    On his part, the Group Managing Director of Amo Farm, Dr. Ayoola Oduntan, applauded the Federal Government for establishing the Ministry of Livestock Development, noting its immense potential in securing Nigeria’s food and protein security.

    Dr. Oduntan stressed the crucial role of the private sector in driving growth and innovation in the livestock industry, stating, “The creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development is a promising step toward securing Nigeria’s food future.

    He also called for increased investment in agriculture and livestock production to meet the needs of the country’s growing population, with emphasis on the positive impact of Noiler farming in providing a sustainable protein source for many families with the company’s capacity to do so.

    As part of the tour, the Minister was shown the artificial insemination process, an efficient method used at Amo Farm to enhance the production of fertilised eggs, and actively participated in the process, witnessing the advanced approach to poultry reproduction firsthand.

    Present during the visit was Managing Director of Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery, Dr. Anand Burra, who described the Minister’s visit as a significant step toward advancing the animal protein and livestock industries in Nigeria.

    Burra reaffirmed Amo Farm’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s food system, noting that the company produces one-million-day-old chicks per week and is renowned for developing Noiler, a dual-purpose breed that is transforming rural poultry farming.

    He added that through its subsidiary, natnudO Foods, Amo Farm continues to produce high-quality animal protein products, further reinforcing its commitment to food security and nutrition.

    Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Limited, developers and producers of the innovative Noiler birds, has announced the launch of its latest initiative, Noiler City, aimed at providing a sustainable solution to the soaring food prices in the country.

    This groundbreaking project comes in response to the staggering increase in egg and meat prices, as highlighted by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Food Price Report, which shows a 54 per cent rise in the cost of eggs over the past year.

    Since the NBS report in January 2024, there has been an additional over 50 per cent increase in the cost of eggs by August 2024, with Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Ltd recognizing the urgent need to offer an affordable and reliable protein source for urban residents.

    Accordingly, the company said its Noiler City initiative aims to provide a convenient and innovative way for city dwellers to access fresh eggs and meat directly from their homes.

    Group Managing Director of Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Ltd., Dr. Ayoola Oduntan, stated that “We are excited to launch Noiler City, a project dedicated to empowering urban residents to take control of their food supply and address escalating food costs.

    “Noiler farming has already proven its value in rural communities, providing over a million households with a reliable source of meat and eggs.

    By bringing this successful model to the city, we aim to enhance food security and self-sufficiency for urban families.”

    The Noiler City initiative builds on the success of introducing Noiler birds to rural communities, which has significantly enhanced food security for over 1.4 million households through this sustainable farming model.

    Oduntan said Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Ltd. is now bringing these benefits to urban areas with a specially tailored package for city dwellers.

    According to him, the Noiler City Package offers a comprehensive and cost-effective solution for urban poultry farming, all for an affordable price of N150, 000.

    This package includes a solid Battery Cage with a capacity of up to 16 birds, ensuring durability and exceptional value over time. It also comes with 10 five-week-old Noiler birds, consisting of six females and four males.

    The females are consistent egg layers, each producing a minimum of 150 eggs per cycle from 20 weeks, while the males will mature by 14 weeks, making them efficient for meat production.

    Oduntan said by investing in this package, individuals can save up to 48 per cent on their egg and meat expenditure.

    To support the health and well-being of the birds, the package includes 10kg of Noiler feed, 100g of Divertamin multivitamin, and 500ml of disinfectant.

    Additionally, the Noiler City Management Manual provides detailed guidance, making this package an excellent choice for those with limited poultry experience.

    Agribusiness company, Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Limited has supported the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s launch of the Southwest Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Women Agricultural Support Programme and kick-off of the Ogun State Planting Season with 1000 five-week-old Noiler Birds for 100 women.

    Under the gesture, which was part of efforts at empowering rural women and boosting food security in the region, Amo Farm also provided 12.5kg of Amo Byng Grower Pellet, as start-up packs for small poultry farming, and a pack of Divertamin, a combination of essential nutrients for the Noiler Birds to attain optimum growth and production, for each of the beneficiaries.

    The Noiler Birds were presented to the Ogun State Government at the unveiling of the RHI South-West scheme in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Tuesday, 17th April 2024, by Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, where Governor Dapo Biodun of Ogun State asserted that Amo Farm’s partnership with the state in promoting agriculture through empowerment initiative was very much commendable.

    Amo Farm’s Group Managing Director, Dr. Ayoola Oduntan, who was present at the event, affirmed that the support for the RHI in the South-West was part of the company’s commitment to ensuring women’s involvement in agribusiness through Noiler farming, for food security, poverty eradication and provision of animal protein to curb malnutrition.

    Launched in 2014 after several years of research and development through a selective breeding process, Noiler is a source of protein and a dual-purpose chicken breed that is similar in looks and taste to the native chicken, but is resistant to diseases, and produces four times more eggs and three times more meat.

    It was developed to create a revolution in rural poultry (production) that will increase productivity and income for rural women and empower them through job creation, to transform access of poor households to source animal protein in Africa, while boosting the availability of food in the country and on the African continent, thereby solving the problem of malnutrition.

    Like its eggs which are very nutritious for all age demographics, the Noiler’s meat contains all essential amino acids and is low in saturated fats and cholesterol. The Noiler Bird innovation and Amo Farm’s poverty reduction scheme have been extensively documented and reviewed in the prestigious Harvard Business Review publication.

    In her remark, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who is the National Chairperson of the RHI, said the scheme with the theme “Making Life Better for Families,” launched in February 2024, was aimed at motivating women in all spheres of endeavours, and in agriculture for productive impact, in line with the Federal Government’s food security programme.

    She affirmed that grants of N500, 000 would be given to 20 women each in the agrarian sector, fishing, and animal husbandry from each state of the South-west, as 100 persons with disabilities smiled home with N100, 000 each from the event.

    Present at the event were First Ladies of the Southwest States, among others from across the country, as well as royal fathers and other important dignitaries.
