    200 suspects held, 300 vehicles recovered in Anambra

    • Kidnapping, others listed as bigger challenges

    Anambra State Police Commissioner, Ikioye Orutugu, has announced the recovery of over 300 arms, 20 explosives, more than 1,000 ammunition, and more than 30 vehicles.

    Also, he said no fewer than 200 suspects had been arrested, including cultists, separatist agitators, and armed robbers.

    Furthermore, he said the command had secured convictions of more than 100 suspects on cases bordering sexual assault, armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes

    Briefing reporters on the achievements of the command yesterday at the Police headquarters, Amawbia said the command has destroyed five criminal camps of hoodlums in the state.

    These, he said, included, “one of the notable successes was the re-arrest of the suspect involved in the kidnapping and murder of Justice Azuka.

    “This breakthrough underscores our resolve to ensure that perpetrators of heinous crimes are brought to justice, no matter how long it takes.

    “The Command has explored the use of alternative dispute resolution to resolve so many communal crises including  the boundary dispute between Ikenga and Isiokwe villages in Umueri and Aguleri and others

    “Furthermore, the Command leveraging the platform of Police Officers’ Wives Association’s (POWA) efforts to promote a positive police-community relationship with the people of Anambra State by actively involved in various initiatives, including empowering women through skills training and economic empowerment programmes, providing support to Police officers and their families through counselling and welfare services,  organising community outreach programs and charitable initiatives,” Orutugu added.

    Family accuses pastor of stabbing wife to death in Anambra

    Anambra State Government has intervened in the case of alleged murder of Ogechukwu Okafor by her husband, a native of Nimo in Njikoka local government area, who is also a Pastor.

    The incident, which happened on August 13, 2024, was reported to the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare by the deceased family following alleged irregularities and threats by the husband.

    Uncle to the deceased, Samuel Onuorah, from Abatete, alleged that he got a call from her late niece’s husband Ogechukwu fell from a four-storey building and died.

    Seeking for justice at the Women Affairs Ministry, Onuorah alleged their daughter did not fall but was killed and stabbed in her neck and chest by the Pastor husband

    He claimed their doubts were cleared after they went to the mortuary and saw she did not fall from any story building.

    They urged government to come to their rescue and give their deceased daughter justice.

    Responding, Women Affairs commissioner, Ify Obinabo called on stakeholders, women groups, human rights activists, and social media users to support the government in ensuring that Ogechukwu got justice.

    She promised to notify the wife of the Governor, Nonye Soludo, expressing confidence in her preparedness to take up the case and ensure justice was served.
