Confusion has continued to trail the primaries of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, All progressive Congress APC and the All progressives Grand Alliance APGA in Anambra state, as aspirants have described them as rape of democracy in the state.

As a result, senatorial aspirants of APC, have appealed to president Muhammadu Buhari, national Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole and the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to intervene.

Those who addressed reporters on Friday in Awka, were, Hon Ebele Obi, Engr Nelson Onubogu and Azuka Okwuosa for the three senatorial zones in the state, among other stakeholders.

They alleged that up till this moment, no body had seen members of the panel that came to conduct primaries in the state, noting that some people had purportedly produced a list of candidates already.

The Nation gathered that the names of Sen Andy Uba, Sen Uche Ekwunife among others had been mentioned as candidates in the state for Anambra South and Central respectively.

They alleged that those who came into the party from PDP were those trying to cause confusion in APC, adding that they must be resisted now before it became too late.

Also, it was the same thing in PDP as lists were being written in many places without any form of primaries.

But at Ekwulobia township stadium in Aguata local government area, the primary went on smoothly with heavy security presence that produced Chief Chris Uba as it’s candidate for Anambra South senatorial zone.

The Nation gathered that Sen Stella Oduah from the Anambra North senatorial zone was declared winner, after the primary was equally disrupted the previous day.

The protesters, who shut down the market, marched round major streets in the industrial community to press home their demands before culminating at the palace of the Nnewi traditional ruler, Igwe Kenneth O. Orizu III.

The traders, led by Mr Ernest-Mary Ezenwa, alleged high-handedness of the market leadership, under Mr Christopher Osuchukwu.

They also accused the leadership of collaborating with the state government to demolish traders’ stalls and impose high stall levies.

The traders said, “Notices of demolition of 320 stalls from the State Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Market and Wealth Creation in agency with Star-Unic Enterprises Limited were pasted at their shops on a Sunday without any arrangement for the affected traders relocation.

“The Anambra State government imposed a stall age levy of N12,200 per shop in the market and the leaders increased the levy to N13,200.

“We will not pay anything above what government stipulated.”

Some of the placards displayed by the traders read: ” No more imposition of illegal levies in Agbo-Edo market, no more structures in our market, we don’t need building of more shops, among others.”

They called on the Governor, Willie Obiano to intervene in the ugly situation to avert impending crises.

Addressing the protesters through the Crown Prince, Obi Orizu, Igwe Orizu III called for calm, assuring that their complaints would be given the attention it deserved.

The monarch promised a meeting with Nnewi North council chairman, Nzuko-Ora (Nnewi town union), other stakeholders including the traders themselves to look into the matter.

He however denied any difference from the N12,200 government asked traders to pay, challenging those who accused his leadership of illegal levy to produce a receipt to back up their claims.

Mrs Uwechue-Mbanefo, who spoke at the launch of tourism portal and celebration of this year’s World Tourism Day with the theme Tourism and digital transformation in Awka, reiterated the state government’s commitment to put to great use the emergence of new technologies in tourism. She disclosed that investors were already showing tremendous interest in partnering the state government to develop the various sites, including Igboukwu Museum and Ogbunike Cave, which she said, is another United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (U NESCO) approved heritage site that Anambra State counts on.

She reassured that as former Director-General of Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), she would bring her experience to turn around tourism in the state and create jobs for the youth. “My vision is to use my experience to make Anambra the centre of tourism in Nigeria,” she added.

She stated that in line with the United Nations World Tourism Day celebration with the theme, ‘’Tourism and the digital transformation’’, it is incumbent on her to explore, promote and showcase Anambra’s huge tourism potential to the rest of the world through digitalisation.

“Again this comes at an auspicious time that the state is on a spirited rebranding drive astutely led by Governor Willie Obiano. It is no longer news that the old traditional methods of marketing tourism have of course been overtaken by digitalisation. It is based on this fact that the ministry is launching her very first portal  the 27th of September to mark the celebration of the World Tourism Day, alongside the rest of the world. We are working in tune with this year’s theme to reposition tourism in the state through the vast network of the digital transformation of the modern day.
