Aneke: Plateau Utd lost continental ticket because of poor NPFL start

Former NPFL highest scorer, Jude Aneke has disclosed to SportingLife that Plateau United would have picked a continental ticket with ease had the same players in the team’s stable now started the season with them.

Plateau United management headed by Pius Hemwan made drastic changes to the playing staff during the mid season transfer with the acquisition of Kelechi John, Aneke, Joshua Obaje and other  promising players and the result was the club’s current 11th position on the log with 48 points from 34 matches.

Aneke revealed that the Jos side would be the team to beat next season if the club management manages to keep the current crop of players intact with the addition of few others to shore up deficient areas.

The 2011/2012 NPFL hotshot informed SportingLife that he was thrilled with the way he was received in Jos and that he hopes to repay the support with few goals before the end of the season.

He, however, concluded that their weekend NPFL Match Day 37 tie with El Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri would be tough but they are targetting at least a point just like the Borno Army had when they visited Jos in a NPFL Match Day 17 tie.

El Dakhleya of Egypt on loan star, Jude Aneke has confirmed he would be calling it quits with Al Masry for a club in Europe at the end of the season.

Aneke became a cult hero in the Nigeria Premier League till date after his 20 league goals etched his name as the highest goal scorer in the domestic league in a single season when he set the record two seasons ago then as a player of Kaduna United.

His heroic fetched him a lucrative deal with Warri Wolves and later his club cleared him to Egypt for Al Masry.

The Egyptian club had a problem with the Egyptian Football Association over their fans’ involvement in the crowd violence that erupted last year February during a league game with Al Ahly. The violence scene left about 80 spectators dead and many wounded.

The Egyptian FA slammed Al Masry with a season long ban on the domestic scene and this forced the club to loan Aneke to El Dakhkeya not to render the Nigerian without competitive action for a whole season.

Aneke resumed life with El Dakhleya only to be informed that Al Masry had issues not yet resolved with Warri Wolves over the fund on his switch to the Egyptian club.

He was told Al Masry were yet to balance his clearance fee and that Warri Wolves had already written to the troubled Egyptian club threatening to take the issue to FIFA.

Aneke also confessed that his own expected takings have not been that forthcoming hence his decision to seek a new environment when the European league season ends.

“I have made up my mind to leave the Egyptian league at the end of the season. My representatives are working out something for me in Turkey and Russia and I have been told to relax till the end of the season to get my heart wishes.

“I’m not happy about the way Al Masry has treated the whole issue. They are yet to balance my clearance fee and they are holding on to me as if they have rounded off my purchase from Warri Wolves. I am done with here when the European league season ends,” the soft spoken Enugu born player affirmed.
