`D.J Cuppy’ Otedola’s daughter confirms split with Anichebe

Florence Otedola, “ DJ Cuppy’’, has confirmed split with her boyfriend, Victor Anichebe, Nigeria’s professional footballer and a striker for Beijing Enterprises.

Cuppy, a disc jockey, music producer and the daughter of Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola, made this known in a recent interview.

She cited distance, time difference and their tight schedule as the reasons for the breakup, but that they are both friends.

Cuppy recently moved back to Nigeria and Anichebe lives in China.

Cuppy featured on Channel 4, a British public-service television documentary, `Lagos To London, Britain’s New Super-Rich’ in 2016.

‘People saying “this DJ is his so and so’s daughter” it doesn’t bother me anymore as I love what I do.

‘I only worry I am not going to make the impact I want to make,” she said as her gigs have included DJing at the inauguration of Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari.

‘I am scared of always being his (Otedola’s) daughter and not getting past that, for me that means not being successful enough.

‘ ‘I am still masked by my dad’s success. If I didn’t try and make it outside Nigeria I would be unhappy.’

Cuppy is keen to be famous in her own right as a DJ and has been securing gigs around the world at venues including Privé, Jalouse, District and Funky Buddha.

While Cuppy admits her father’s fortune has opened doors and helped her network, she said she has to prove her talent behind the decks to secure more work.

‘I think I am a great DJ. Network comes into it but if I don’t do well I won’t get asked back no matter whose daughter I am.’

Cuppy, who recently graduated from King’s College, University of London, with a degree in business and French, said she wants to become renowned around the world as a DJ and make it into Forbes 30 under 30 Rich List.

She said she does have to deal with criticism from those who think she has only had the opportunities in her career she has had so far due to her father’s connections and purse strings, but she said this doesn’t concern her anymore. (NAN)

    Anichebe open to China move

SCORE Nigeria can exclusively reveal that striker Victor Anichebe is open to a grab the big cash China offers after his Premier League club Sunderland were relegated this season.

A top source informed scorenigeria.com.ng: “Anichebe had a chance to move to China last year and he has said he will be willing to move there should the offer be right.”

Anichebe joined Sunderland last summer as a free agent after he was released by West Bromwich Albion.

The 29-year-old striker scored three goals in 17 appearances in the Premier League this season.

He spent nine seasons at Everton and has been capped by Nigeria at Olympic and full international levels.

Super Eagles stars Mikel Obi, Odion Ighalo, Brown Ideye and Anthony Ujah are all playing in China now.

Anichebe: I will come back stronger

Sunderland forward Victor Anichebe has vowed to come back stronger than ever after suffering a knee ligament damage.

The Nigerian was a 66th minute replacement for Adnan Januzaj against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns – and was injured with scans showing that he ruptured his medial ligament.

Anichebe is consequently set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but he remains in positive spirits.

“If I was to say I was gutted would be a complete understatement. This is probably the worst I’ve felt about getting injured since that horrendous tackle in 2009!,”Anichebe wrote on Instagram.

“I don’t usually cry like that but this has been a really hard one to take as I feel so settled here and know I’m important to the team! And just as I was getting back to my best and even better…this happens !! I know you guys are very frustrated just as I am but sometimes these things happen, I don’t know why.

“I just have to be as positive as I can, pray and do the work needed to be back as quick as possible. You may feel like everything is going against us as I’m typing this but I believe and have complete faith that we will improve and pick up the results needed to get us out of the position we find ourselves in.

“Believe me I know it’s difficult but stay positive and keep supporting the team we really need all of you to succeed! I just want to thank you all for the support that you’ve given me since I arrived at this wonderful club and I will do everything in my power to be back as quickly as possible! God bless.”

  • Anichebe doubtful for Watford game

Sunderland manager, David Moyes has disclosed that Victor Anichebe could be out of Sunderland’s game against Watford today at the Stadium of Light.

Anichebe was omitted in the team who faced Chelsea on Wednesday due to an injury he picked up during training.

Moyes stated that he is unsure whether the Super Eagles forward alongside Steven Pienaar and Javi Manquillo would be fit ahead of the game against Walter Mazzarri’s men,

“Victor and Steven weren’t available, and Manquillo could have been involved tonight but he got injured in training on Sunday,” said Moyes in a pre-match conference.

“They were the three who missed out through injury.

“I don’t know if they will be available for the weekend. We’ll have to look tomorrow (today) and see how they are.”

Anichebe has maintained a superb goalscoring form with three goals from five games since joining the Black Cats in August.

Anichebe at the double for Sunderland

SUNDERLAND saw off their rivals in a relegation six-pointer at the Stadium of Light on Saturday in what was their second Premier League win in a row

Jermain Defoe’s 150th Premier League goal and a Victor Anichebe brace secured a 3-0 victory for 10-man Sunderland over fellow strugglers Hull City as the hosts moved off the bottom of the table.

While both teams had come from behind to win their previous fixture after miserable runs of form, goals from captain Defoe and Anichebe, twice, saw the points go Sunderland’s way on Saturday.

The Black Cats had not won any of their previous five meetings with Hull in all competitions, but David Moyes’ men brought that streak to an end despite a second-half power cut causing a temporary floodlight failure on Wearside, as well as a late red card for Papy Djilobodji.

  • Anichebe calls for Sunderland consistency

    Anichebe calls for Sunderland consistency

Victor Anichebe has called on his teammates at English Premier League club, Sunderland to “play to win” when they face Hull City today.

The Black Cats face the Tigers at the Stadium of Light seeking consecutive league victories for the first time this season following their dramatic 2-1 victory over AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on November 5.

Sunderland are currently bottom of the Premier League standings and Anichebe says a win against Hull will send out the right message about their desire to climb out of the drop zone.

“We (the players) are not panicking about our current position in the league but we know we have to fight hard to move up the table.

“It’s no good winning (against Bournemouth) if we cannot follow that up (with another victory) in the next game (against Hull).

“This means we have to play to win today,” Anichebe told Premier League World.

The attacker who scored and won a penalty in the win against Bournemouth also paid tribute, in large parts to the club’s manager, David Moyes.

Anichebe knows Moyes well from their time at working together at Everton between 2006 and 2013.

The 28-year-old striker however revealed that he is seeing a different side to Moyes at Sunderland.

“He (Moyes) is a lot calmer now. At Everton, he would have come into the dressing room ranting and raving.

“At Everton, he would come in ranting and raving at us; he would have killed us.

“But here, he has kept it a lot more calm, maybe because of the (present) situation (with Sunderland at the bottom of the Premier League.

“Maybe he understands that ranting and raving will kill the players’ confidence.

“He just tells us to be calm with us and told us to keep going,” Anichebe explained.

Calm heads will certainly be needed by the Sunderland players today when they face Hull City as the outcome of the game has massive implications at the bottom of the Premier League table.

A win for Sunderland will see them move to within two points of Hull who are third bottom but a loss will see them fall eight points adrift of Mike Phelan’s side.

Anichebe, who has made just three appearances and one start for Sunderland in the league this season, is expected to be handed his second league start of the season against Hull today.

    Waasland-Beveren to offer Anichebe contract

According to information gathered by allnigeriasoccer.com, clubs in Belgium and Turkey are mulling over a move for free agent Victor Anichebe in the summer transfer window.

The Nigeria international is on the lookout for a new employer following his release by West Brom at the end of last season, and has been undergoing personal training at Manchester-based amateur club, Knutsford FC.

It is understood that Waasland-Beveren are ready to offer Anichebe a contract if both parties can agree terms.

But they face competition from an unnamed club in Turkey and Championship trio – Birmingham City, Derby County and Bradford City for his signature.

WEST BROM CONTRACT: Anichebe wants to quit

Nigerian striker, Victor Anichebe says he could quit Barclays Premier League club, West Bromwich Albion when the transfer window opens in January, 2016.

Anichebe was impressive in the Baggies’ 1-0 win over Newcastle on Monday but even that may not stop the 27-year-old from moving to new ground.

The former Everton striker made his first Premier League start of the season in Monday’s win over the Magpies as record-signing Salomon Rondon was suspended.

Anichebe also admitted that he has previously been training away from Tony Pulis’ first-team with fellow outcasts Sebastien Pocognoli, Cristian Gamboa, Callum McManaman, Serge Gnabry and, before his recall, Stephane Sessegnon.

“When you get your chance, hopefully I’ve taken a good step. Whether I stay here or whether I go on somewhere else I thought I did myself justice. I thought the team did well as well so hopefully I can use that to kick on.

“Honestly it’s the best I’ve felt for a couple of years. It is really the best I’ve felt. I got a good pre-season behind me with the gaffer and then I pushed on fitness wise.

“Unfortunately I haven’t really played that much even though it’s been such a difficult time, we’ve worked together we’ve stayed tight the group of us. He put me in but credit to myself, Poco, Gamboa, Callum McManaman, Serge, Sess before. There’s a few of us, we’re all in the same situation.

“We weren’t really getting a look in, but we’ve always been doing training on our own,” Anichebe told the Mirror.

The striker has yet to score in two league appearances for West Brom this season.

West Brom boss hints at Anichebe, Ideye exit

The days of Nigeria strikers, Victor Anichebe and Brown Ideye at West Brom are numbered if the words of manager Tony Pulis are anything to go by.

The team’s manager told Express and Star in the UK that both strikers could move after the team signed two strikers, namely Rickie Lambert and Salomon Rondon.

Anichebe and Ideye have struggled to hold down regular starting places at ‘The Hawthorns’ and Pulis has hinted that the pair could be allowed to find other clubs.

“People will look at Victor and Browny and think they have to move on, but they have wanted to play more regular football anyway. Bringing Salomon in, does it hasten their move from the club? We’ll have to wait and see,” Pulis told the Express & Star.

Anichebe joined West Brom from Everton in 2013, while Ideye moved from Dynamo Kiev last summer on a then club record fee of 10 million pounds.

Both of them started on the bench in West Brom’s opening game of the season at home against Liverpool.
