    Kaduna APC writes national body over Shehu Sani suspension

    The Kaduna state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has written the national secretariat of the party informing them of the decision. Of the leadership of the party at the various levels in the state to suspend Senator Shehu Sani for what they described as continuous breach of the party rules and constitution.

    In a letter dated December 9, 2016 addressed to the National Secretary and signed by the Acting state Chairman of the party, Alhaji Shuaibu Idris, the party said Senator Shehu Sani was initially suspended for an 11 Months period within which he was expected to week the forgiveness of the party.

    The party said that rather than seek amicable settlement if the issues that led to his suspension in other for the suspension to be lifted, the Senator choose to escalate the problems by causing more division  within the party.

    The letter reads: “the National Secretary may be aware of recent events in our state concerning the Senator representing Kaduna Central zone, Senator Shehu Sani. The Senator was suspended last year for an eleven months period, following continuous breach of party rules and constitution.

    “He was expected to use the period to seem forgiveness and redress with party leaders at state, local government area and ward levels. Unfortunately, rather than seek amicable solution with the party at all levels to quash the allegations against him, he choose to escalate the problems by causing more division within the party and going into verbal set with party leaders at all levels.

    “Accordingly at the lapse of his eleven month suspension and without ah sign of remorse or seeking of resolution from the Senator’s side, the ward executive had no choice but to extend his suspension indefinitely. This was endorsed by the par leadership of Kaduna Central, zone and subsequently he the state executive committee of the party”.

    Senator a Shehu Sani was first suspended by the leadership of the party in the state in 2015, by the decision was upturned by a committee set up by the North West zonal leadership of the party who also ordered all parties to the dispute to maintain status quo ante.

    While section 21 B(i and ii) of the APC constitution empower the leadership of the party to set up a disciplinary committee to investigate allegations against any member, Senator Sani told The Nation that at no time has the party invited him to appear before any committee based on any allegation against him.

    APGA suspends South-East chairman

    The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has suspended its National Vice Chairman (South-East), Mr Ozo Okafor, over alleged anti-party activities.

    In a communiqué released in Awka on Thursday, after an emergency meeting of its South-East Working Committee, the party said that Okafor’s activities were considered and found to be against its interest.

    It said that the anti-party activities contravened Articles 21(1) (g) (k) (i) (n) and 22(1) (C) (d) (e) (h) and (h) of APGA’s Constitution as amended.

    “Sequel to the self-induced crisis currently instigated by some members of NWC of APGA and spearheaded by National Vice Chairman South-East, Ozo Okafor, we resolve as follows:

    “That Ozo Okafor is suspended as a result of glaring anti-party activities, which he has been engaged in and in total breach of Articles 21(1)(g)(k)(i) (n) and 22(1)(C)(d)(e)(h) and (h) of APGA Constitution as amended.

    “That we the South-East Working Committee appoint Chief Smart Iheoma as the Acting National Vice Chairman, in addition to his position as Assistant National Publicity Secretary, pending outcome of report of our disciplinary committee,” the communiqué stated.

    The party expressed confidence in Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra as the leader of the party and Dr Victor Oye as its National Chairman for their commitment to the advancement of the party.

    The communiqué was signed by eight members out of the nine members of the NWC in the zone.

    The signatories are Mrs Ocheze Ubani, Woman Leader; Mr Eugene Obi, Financial Secretary; Mr John Iwuala, Organising Secretary and Mr Henry Uzom, Youth Leader.

    Others are Mr Alex Ani, Treasurer; Ms Francisca Ogadi, Ex-Officio; Mr Jones Salem, Ex-Officio and Chief Smart Iheoma.

    Reacting to his suspension, Okafor told the NAN that the decision was void and not binding on him, saying that he was not aware of the meeting.

    He said the Zonal Working Committee lacked the power to suspend him and that he remained a member of the National Working Committee of the party.

    “I am not disturbed because they do not have power to sack me.

    “I belong to the National Working Committee of APGA; so, it has no bearing on me,’’ he said.

    APC volunteers sack members for anti-party activities

    THE National Executive Council of All Progressives Congress Volunteers (APC-V) has suspended some members for alleged “anti-party activities”.

    A statement by its National Chairman, Olusegun Bamgbose,  said: “Five members had their membership revoked as punishment for alleged anti-party activities”.

    Those expelled are Anthony Ajewole, Gbinigie Solomon, Akeem Adejuwon Atupa, Ebun Williams and Olubunmi Aina.

    According to the statement, the suspended members had been extorting money from the public and politicians.

    The statement reads: “It has come to our knowledge that some members have been using the group’s name to extort money from politicians in Lagos and Abuja. We have warned them to stop, but they refused.”

    “We discovered that for the last six months, these people had dubiously collected N10 million from the public and, at present, they have tasked members to pay N2,000 for identity cards and other logistics”

    The NEC, therefore, advised the public not to associate with them until a new executive is inaugurated for the chapter.

    Reacting to the allegations, Atupa stated that the allegations against them were not true, and that they did not solicit funds.

    He said they were not working for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

    Members seal off APC secretariat for alleged anti-party activities

    •Kekemeke: primary ‘ll be free, fair

    SOME members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the aegis of Ondo State APC Movement Against Imposition (MAI) yesterday sealed off the party’s secretariat in Akure, the state capital.

    They announced the purported removal of state party Chair, Isaac Kekemeke and his replacement by a member of the State Executive Committee (SEC), Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye in acting currently.

    But Kekemeke described the action as laughable, saying it was part of challenges confronting those in leadership position.

    He denied the allegations levelled against him by the protesters, who carried placards with various unprintable inscriptions.

    A detachment of policemen took positions around the APC secretariat to maintain the peace.

    Some of the allegations against Kekemeke include anti-party activities, manipulation of delegates’ list for the primary election and attempt to impose a particular aspirant as candidate, among others.

    The convener of the group, Tolu Babaleye, a lawyer, said a genuine delegates list used for the 2014 primary election of the National and State Assembly elections must be made available to the aspirants.

    He urged the APC national leadership to appoint an officer from its National Secretariat in Abuja to conduct the next week’s primary election to facilitate a credible exercise.

    Kekemeke noted that only the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has the power to conduct primaries in every state.

    He said there was no going back on conducting free and fair primary election for the APC governorship aspirants.

    The party primary holds next Saturday in the state capital.

    Kekemeke said irrespective of blackmail from some quarters, he would continue to pursue the course of free, fair and transparent poll.

    The chairman refuted the allegation of bias, saying he has maintained a level-playing ground he promised the aspirants.

    Saka Yusuf – Ogunleye said the party would not accept anything less than free, fair and transparent primaries election devoid of undue influence.

    He expressed the need to allow internal democracy in the affairs of the party to facilitate victory.

    The protesters purportedly came from the state’s three senatorial districts.

    APC suspends chieftain for anti-party activities

    THE Akoko All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders’ Forum has warned the supporters of a governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Senator Ajayi Boroffice, against unruly behaviour.

    The leaders called for the suspension of a party chieftain, Mr. Bolatife Dawodu, a supporter of the senator, for alleged anti-party activities for six months.

    The forum is made up of leaders from the four local governments in Akokoland.

    The meeting, which was chaired by the chairman, Chief Felix Aiyegboro, was witnessed by former Deputy Governor Ali Olanusi.

    The elders condemned what it described the barbaric attack on a governorship aspirant, Dr. Olusegun Abraham, and his supporters at Oka-Akoko, Boroffice’s home town, during a rally.

    They said it was worrisome that the barbaric attack could be carried out in broad daylight by known associates of the senator.

    Boroffice was not present at the meeting. His aides said he was busy in Abuja. Actually snubbed his people by not attending the meeting, claiming he was busy in Abuja.

    In a statement, the leaders said the suspension of erring members will enhance discipline and stem violence during the electioneering period.

    The leaders warned the aspirants  against the disruption of rallies of perceived rivals in the shadow poll.

    According to the forum, Akoko elders will not support any proud and pompus aspirant who constitute himself into a lord of manor.

    The Oka community was asked to tender an apology to Dr. Abraham and his entourage for the unprovoked attack.

    The leaders praised Abraham for his mature conduct, noting that his supporters were calm, despite the provocation.

    They added: “The aspirants should prevail on their supporters and associates not to resort to violence. The exemplary behavior of Dr. Abraham and his team, who did not to fight back when they were attacked, is commendable.

    “The strength of aspirants does  not consist in thuggery and violence. Any aspirant who has the support of the people wil not engage in  street fight.”

    Boroffice’s associates denied any involvement of his group in any unruly behaviour, saying that the group is highly disciplined and focussed.

    APC suspends Waku, Jime others for anti-party activities

    Benue State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has suspended Senator Joseph Waku, Emmanuel Jime and Justice Ustaha for anti-party activities.

    The Chairman, Comrade Abba Yaro, in a statement made available to The Nation after a meeting of the working committee, said the members disobeyed the party’s order to withdraw their cases from courts.

    Jime was an APC governorship aspirant and is in court to challenge the emergence of Governor Samuel Ortom.

    Waku is also challenging Ortom’s emergence in the last primaries at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

    Yaro said at the end of this month, their suspension would be reviewed and if the directives were not complied with, the party would have no choice but to expel them.

    The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State said yesterday that it has not authorised elders to speak on the 2015 governorship election.

    Some PDP elders, led by Senators Effiong Bob; Ita Enang; Aloysius Etok; Otuekong Sunny Jackson, had last week gathered in Uyo, the state capital, to chart a new direction for the 2015 governorship poll.

    They congregated under the banner of Akwa Ibom State PDP elders and stakeholders meeting, which was chaired by former Environment Minister Dr Imet Okopido.

    At the meeting, four issues were on the front burner- President Goodluck Jonathan and 2015, the 2015 governorship election should be an open to all aspirants, PDP primaries must be open, free and fair and the PDP state executives under the leadership of Obong Paul Ekpo should be re-structured..

    Opposing zoning, the elders and stakeholders urged the PDP national leadership to caution Governor Godswill Akpabio against destabilising the state and the PDP.

    Akpabio wants to zone the governorship seat to Eket Senatorial District, a move The Nation gathered did not go down well with some party members.

    The governor is said to favour Secretary to State Government Udom Emmanuel to succeed him.

    Speaking yesterday after the inauguration of the Finance and Building Committee for the party secretariat, Ekpo condemned the elders’ meeting.

    He said the state chapter has not constituted a PDP elders’ forum.

    Ekpo warned the elders to desist from all activities and actions that could affect the party’s unity.

    “It is pertinent to remind us that the times we have found ourselves, as a party, are the times we must think as men and women of action and act as men and women of thought.

    “A few dissenting voices should not distract us. We must uphold the principles of justice, fairness and equity that are enshrined in our party’s constitution.

    “Let me condemn the purported meeting by people who call themselves PDP elders.

    “The state chapter of our great party has not yet constituted PDP elders in the state.

    “The PDP in Akwa Ibom State strongly warns those who parade themselves as PDP elders to desist from all activities and actions that can adversely affect the unity of our great party.

    “Any further attempt will be strongly resisted by the party.”
