    Drums Festival: Anu D Lady Ekwe wins award

    The  Ekwe lady drummer, dancer and songstress of international repute, Anu D Lady Ekwe, put on a class art at the just held African Drums Festival to clinch the award for the Most Outstanding Performer in the Individual Category. Cultural fiesta, which debuted last year, was organised by the Ogun State Government at Abeokuta, the state capital.

    Anu, who is Nigeria’s only female Ekwe percussionist, gave a breathtaking performance, displaying her dexterity with the musical instrument, deft stage performance and compelling command of voice sound to the admiration of the packed audience.

    The songstress, who was recently conferred with the title of the African Ambassador of Music by the leading music school in Nigeria, Tenstrings Music Institute, mesmerised and tantalise the crowd with her  choreographed dance steps and electrifying drum beats, all benefits of her tutelage from the stable of Atunda Entertainment, where creative African youths are groomed and transformed into world-class arts.

    She was at the end of the three-day event adjudged by the organisers as the best individual performer and rewarded with a prize of one million naira (1million).

    The Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Salmot Olapeju Ottun, while presenting her with the award and cheque, commended her for her endearing and lovely performance at the event and said she is a great inspiration to teeming youths all over Africa who are seeking veritable platforms to express their talents in order to become formidable entertainers like her.

    The music ambassador expressed thanks to the state government and the organisers of the event for a job well done and also for the recognition and award bestowed on her, which she said is a great honour and boost to her career.

    She promised not to rest on her oars and that she would continue to be a role model for youths, not only in Africa, but for youths all over the world.

    It would be recalled that Anu and Atunda Entertainment also featured in last year’s event with Anu winning the admiration and recognition of the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, who rewarded her for her talents.

    The event was attended by eminent personalities from all walks of life, including royal fathers, governors, and the diplomatic community with over a hundred participants from Nigeria, many African countries and also the Diaspora.

    THE new year looks promising for Nigerian female percussionist, Anu, who has been invited by the Turkey government as the only Nigerian to participate at the first ever Africa – Turkey Economic and Cultural Amalgamation show.

    The event which began on Friday, January 13 in Konya, is an activation of Motherland Beckons, headed by Otunba Wanle Akinboboye in partnership with MUSAID.

    The event is being attended by top African diplomats in Turkey, African Heads of State and Prime Ministers as well as governors and mayors of major cities and states in the continent.

    Anu, otherwise called Lady Ekwe, is known for her velvety voice and sonorous renditions as well as an energetic percussionist deft on Ekwe, a male dominated African musical instrument from the Eastern extraction of Nigeria but which she has made her musical signature.

    The entertainer is showcasing her talent in the global event which is focusing on exploring the business aspects of tourism, culture and entertainment between African countries and Turkey.

    Motherland Beckons comprises 11, 000 members and 50, 000 companies, spread across 175 countries and is one of the biggest business umbrella body in the world.

    It is against this setting that Anu is entertaining guests with her scintillating performances alongside a mix of artistes from other African countries and Turkey. This is just the beginning for the Atunda Entertainment groomed musical exponent who, in the last four years has honed her skill under the tutelage of the founder of Atunda Entertainment, Akinboboye, and had been taught to  showcase the best of African music in a highly cosmopolitan manner.

    Anu rebounds with 125-man cast video

    For a musical video, it is expensive to employ a cast of 125 people, but music sensation, Anu, blaized the trail with Ur Omalicha Uwa, a captivating picture of her new single.

    The D Lady Ekwe, as she is fondly was the cynosure of all eyes at the La Campagne Club, Ikeja, Lagos, where during the premiere of the video, she also played to a huge audience that graced the event.

    Produced by Unlimited L.A. Production under Atunda Entertainment, the video has been described as an audacious one, clearly setting the pace.

    Ur Omalich Nwa tells the undying and triumphant story of two lovebirds, a young maiden and a young lad who, despite the obstacles put in their way, endured the vilifications, proclaiming their love for each other.

    It all played out in a Nigerian rural community, which was set in one of West Africa’s ever-best resort, La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort in Ikegun Village, Lagos.

    The naturalness of the African themed resort with its lush and inviting greens, beach front, ocean and beautiful rural – like scenery was a perfect location for Anu and her 125-man cast to tell a griping story of love in a very entertaining and creative manner.

    The singer who is enjoying a rising profile in the industry for blending her singing talent well with her adept percussionist flavour for Ekwe, a traditional musical instrument, which ought to be men’s exclusive but she has customised it as her stage signature, was at her best, serenading and charming everyone with both her singing and performance prowess.

    Interestingly, the work was well received by the audience, which was a mix of high profile business executives, fashionistas and some elderly people who obviously enjoy live music.

    The occasion also witnessed comedy show, runway and dance.
