    Anyansi wants Enyimba double

Chairman of Enyimba, Felix Anyansi Agwu wants a League and Cup double after the People’s Elephants sealed their place in the final of the 2013 Federation Cup on Wednesday. Enyimba last won the double in 2005.

The Aba-based club beat Lobi Stars 1-0 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin courtesy of an Ifeanyi Ede strike on 59 minutes.

Anyansi, who was on hand to watch the game at the stadium, praised his wards for the win but warned that they could not afford to be lulled into a false sense of security.

“Getting to the final of the Federation Cup is not an easy feat so for that, I must congratulate the players. However, there is still work to be done so the players must continue to work hard till they win the trophy,” Anyansi told supersport.com.

The People’s Elephants are also well placed in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) as they currently occupy the third position on the log with 42 points from 26 matches, just one point adrift of the leaders, Kano Pillars who have however played a game less.

Anyansi believes that with 12 rounds of matches still to navigate, the “People’s Elephants” will seal a remarkable double.

“For a club like Enyimba, second place is never good enough. Our fans are used to titles and that is what we intend to achieve in the league. We have had our trying moments, just like all clubs do, when we went for a few seasons without winning any title.

“Now the good times are back. Remember, we remain the first and only Nigerian club to have won the CAF Champions League. Hopefully, Champions League football will return to Aba from next year and we will make our mark on the continent again,” he said.

Meanwhile, assistant coach of Enyimba, Imama Amapakabo has described Ede’s goal against Lobi Stars as one of the “most beautiful things I have ever seen in a football pitch.”

“When (Ede) picked up the ball at the edge of the Lobi penalty area, there were about seven defenders behind the ball. We all urged him to shoot but he ignored us before producing a most delightful chip that nestled in the net. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen on a football pitch,” he said.

Enyimba now proceed to the final of the Federation Cup on September 15 where they will meet the winner of the second semi-final Warri Wolves.

No friction with NFF, say Club Owners

Club Owners in the Glo Nigeria Premier League say they do not forsee any problems with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) regarding the constitution of an election Transition Committee.

The Transition Committee will be charged with offering advice on how an election into the Club Owners Association would be conducted.

Speaking with SportingLife shortly after a meeting of Premier League Clubs Chairmen and Managers (Club Owners) Held on Thursday at the Lamonde Hotel Wuse 2 Abuja, the Secretary of the body, Alloy Chukwuemeka, stated that the clubs are the owners of the league and as such have the power to determine how the league is to be run in line with FIFA statutes.

The General Manager of ABS of Ilorin said the NFF is aware of their plans and is being carried along.

“Clubs are the owners of the league and as such will go ahead with our election.

“The NFF is very much aware of FIFA’s position on who owns and manages the league.

“We always keep them notified of all developments as the authority of football,” Chukwuemeka told SportingLife.

At the meeting which had all the 20 clubs in attendance, a five-man Transition Committee was set up to look into the process of electing a genuine Premier League body.

The committee is headed by Barrister S.B. Aluko of Kwara United and includes Zanna Mala (El Kanemi), Dumbor Awanen (Dolphins), Alabi Demola (3SC), while Oscar Keke (Heartland) is its Secretary.

The Club Owners hope to have properly elected officials in office before September, when the League Management Company (LMC)’s tenure will end.

It appears however that there are clandestine moves by top officials of the LMC to stay in office beyond their term.

Anyansi reads riot act after second home draw

Executive Chairman of Enyimba Felix Anyansi Agwu has read the riot act to his team after a second consecutive home draw on Sunday against Kwara United.

The club boss has given the team an ultimatum to win their next three games or face stiff sanctions.

Anyansi made the declaration in an official statement released shortly after the game. The statement expressed the disappointment of the management of the club after what it described as ‘totally unacceptable’ results and demanded that swift actions be carried out to ensure the team got maximum points in their next three games.

The statement read: “We have viewed with serious concern, the two consecutive home draws recorded by the team. We are disappointed by these results and find them totally unacceptable. We are a club with a philosophy of winning and these results do not reflect the high standards we set for our club.

“We believe the team has no excuse for these disappointing results after the strong support of the Abia State Government. Sign-on fees, salaries, match bonuses and other allowances have all been paid so we expect the results of the team to reflect this.

“We are deeply worried that these string of unsatisfactory results will severely hamper our title ambitions so we shall take swift and decisive actions to prevent things going from bad to worse.

“You are therefore mandated to win your next three games, home or away. You must implement whatever actions are necessary to ensure you score goals and win these games. The management of the club will come down hard and decisively should you fail to obtain nine points from your next three fixtures.

“Our resolve to bring success to our club is unrelenting and we will remain committed until our objectives are gained,” the statement read.
