I have always believed that public officers should work to enthrone a government works with the people to enthrone a collective sense of common purpose and direction for the benefit of all stakeholders,” Ogbuoji said. “This belief has not changed; instead it has been strengthened over the years, necessitating my desire to serve the good people of Ebonyi State.”

“We will ensure that our youths are sufficiently empowered and taken off the streets of Nigerian cities – the era of Ebonyi street hawkers will be a thing of the past when APC takes over government in Ebonyi State come May 2019,” Ogbuoji emphasised.

Analysts who are familiar with political events in the State said that the flag-off accentuate the popularity of the party in the State and lay to rest any semblance of doubt regarding the capacity of the party to garner landslide victory in the February and March elections in the state.

  • APC Campaign Council slams Saraki on fuel consumption figures

The APC Presidential Campaign Council yesterday  accused Senate President Bukola Saraki of engaging in a campaign of calumny against President Muhammadu Buhari and hallucinating about daily fuel consumption in the country.

Spokesman for  the APCPCC, Mr. Festus Keyamo, said it was unfortunate that a person of the calibre of the Senate President would engage in such  ”baseless campaign of calumny.”

Saraki doubles as the Director General of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council.

Keyamo said the resort to poorly choreographed and worn-out political brinksmanship was  fuelled by the obvious absence of any credible agenda or bearing to present to Nigerians in the PDP  campaigns.

He said: “In clear demonstration of hallucination with figures, Dr. Bukola Saraki claimed that Nigeria’s petrol consumption is about 20-22 million Iitres per day and that the current import level of about 50million litres is a scam and fraudulent.

“However, the same Dr. Bukola Saraki was in the 7th Senate and knows very well that in 2014 and part of 2015, the PDP government that was in power was reporting to Nigerians daily PMS consumption of 35-40 million litres per day.

“In January, 2014, for example, the average monthly consumption was 38 million litres per day. By January, 2015, under the same government of PDP, they reported 36 milIion Iitres per day and March 2015, the daily consumption reported by the PDP government was 45 million Iitres per day, whilst importing at levels above 80million litres per day.

“Strangely, years later, the PDP Campaign DG is peddling a phantom fuel consumption figure of 20-22 million litres per day.

“The PDP Chief Campaigner discountenanced the obvious fact that within the last three years of the current administration, the Nigerian economy that the PDP left in comatose has been jump-started to vibrancy leading to remarkable changes in energy consumption needs and patterns.

“The allegation that the national oil company prevailed on Mr. President not to seek appropriation for subsidy and to rather treat it as cost under-recovery is not only laughable and mischievous, but it is a blatant lie. Verifiable records indicate that the NNPC has never claimed subsidy payment from any government in its history of operation. All NNPC’s transactions in this regard have been treated as product costs under-recovery.

“The corporation, like any other business entity, does its business and recovers its cost from its revenues. It is instructive to note that in his rush to indict the NNPC and the President, willy-nilly, Dr. Bukola Saraki forgot that a Senate Committee was set up by him to investigate the intervention of the NNPC in PMS imports.

“Nigerians should, therefore, ignore the tantrums of Dr. Bukola Saraki concerning the oil and gas sector.”

  • NDIC board: APC campaign council spokesperson escapes Senate rejection

ALL Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council spokesperson Festus Keyamo yesterday narrowly escaped Senate rejection as a board member of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).

Deputy Senate President Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over Senate plenary, was forced to repeat the question whether Kayemo will be confirmed as a member of the board.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, Senator Ibrahim Adebayo Rafiu presented the report for the confirmation of nomination of chairman and members of the board of NDIC.

The other nominees included Mrs. Ronke Sokefun (chairman) (Ogun-Southwest); Alhaji Garba Buba (member) (Bauchi-Northeast); Alhaji Garba Bello (member) (Sokoto-Northwest); Brig-Gen. Josef O. J. Okoloagu (member) (Enugu-Southeast); Mustapha Adewale Mudashiru (member) (Kwara-Northcentral); Barr Festus E. Kayemo (member) (Delta-Southsouth) and Adewale W. Adeleke (member) (Ondo-Southwest.)

The confirmation of the nomination of Sokefun, Bello, Okoloagu, Mudashiru and Adeleke was seamless.

Kayemo’s approval for NDIC board membership on the other hand, raised some dust as question for his confirmation had to be repeated by Ekweremadu.

Findings showed that the bone of contention was the authenticity of Kayemo’s National Youth Service Commission (NYSC) discharge certificate.

Like he did to other nominees, Ekweremadu subjected Keyamo’s confirmation to a voice vote.

Majority of the senators appeared to have shouted ‘nay’ to the amazement of some other lawmakers in the chamber.

Apparently to save the day, Ekweremadu repeated the voice vote and ruled that the ‘ayes’ had it.

The ruling sealed the confirmation of the Delta State nominee to the displeasure of those opposed to it.

The Nation gathered that the authenticity of Keyamo’s NYSC discharge certificate was at stake.

Finding showed that the delay in the confirmation of other nominees was “due to the need to establish the true picture of Keyamo’s NYSC discharge certificate”.

It was gathered that some members of the Senate screening committee questioned alleged discrepancy in the NYSC discharge certificate of Keyamo.

“It had to do with the state the nominee did his NYSC,” a member of the committee said

According to the member, “while Keyamo’s NYSC discharge certificate reportedly carried Imo State, he completed his programme in Lagos State.”

The source said the situation prompted the committee to write the management of NYSC for confirmation of where Keyamo did his NYSC.

In his report, Rafiu gave insight into the seeming discrepancy in Keyamo’s NYSC discharge certificate.

He wrote: “The nominee (Keyamo) participated in the National Youth Service Corps programme in the 1993/1994 service year in Imo State and later redeployed to Lagos State, where he completed the service as confirmed by the National Youth Service Corps Directorate Headquarters.”

The confirmation by the NYSC headquarters may have informed the clean bill of health the committee gave to Kayemo.

Another nominee, Garba Buba, was not that lucky.
