A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, Preye Aganabahas berated members of the House of Assembly for passing a bill which advocates life pension for them.

Aganaba described the Life Pension Bill as “self-centred, insensitive, preposterous and a sad reflection of the inordinate desire of the lawmakers for self-enrichment”.

A statement by his media aide, Kariebi Prekeben, said the bill was a direct assault on the sensibilities of majority of the people who lived below poverty line.

It reads: “The outrage shown by the people against the bill is an indication of the total rejection of bills which serves no purpose than to enrich the pockets of a select few and impoverish thousands of Bayelsans.

“The passing of the bill last Wednesday unfolds a new chapter on the insatiable greed of the legislative arm. Among all the laws passed by the House since the inception of the current Assembly, the preferential Life Pension Bill is the most controversial and insensitive.”

Aganaba called for a complete reversal of the life pension bill, and asked the lawmakers to imitate President Muhammadu Buhari by evolving palliatives to improve the people’s standard of living.

He said: “It is sad that at a time the Federal Government is putting in place palliatives to improve the standard of living, the Bayelsa State House of Assembly is still in the business of passing retrogressive

Aganaba said: “When the question was thrown to him Pa Okara said, ‘The Call of River Nun, may be described as a poem of remembrances, a desire to live freely without any fear, without any enemy’.”

“Those words should be the template of the human race, to make the world a better place for all, irrespective of gender, religion or ethnicity”.

  • Apc chief urges Oshiomole to reconcile Rivers Apc,  others

A cheiftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC),  in Rivers State, Sir Lucky Worlu, has urged the party’s national chairman, Adams Oshiomole, to unite all factions of the party across the country.

Worlu, who spoke in Port Harcourt,  the state capital yesterday, also appealed to Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi to forgive his party men who have taken him for granted.

He said:   “As a grassroots lead,  I want to passionately appeal to our South south Political Leader ,  RT. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi,  to please all those that have bruised him by way of betrayal.

“The Holy Bible made us to understand that to err is human and to forgive is divine, please forgive them.

“And to our national chairman,  Adams Oshiomohle,  the wisdom that he requires now is wisdom for peace and  justice. He should be bold to tell anyone that has done wrong the truth.

“There is no way we can be APC and PDP people are those sponsoring your court case,  a PDP governor, chieftains are your guest of honour in an event to celebrate your APC victory against PDP, what does that tells us?” he queried.

He described Amaechi as a kind, honest, blunt and transparent man with great vision.

    Worlu advised youths on politics.

He said,  “As youths don’t see politics as a career, get a job with your  certificate, or learn a skill, practice it and stabilise it as a business that can keep you and your family going at all times, have something doing,  then see politics as part time job, then your life will fair better,  you will no longer be seen by over ambitious politicians as ready tool for commotion and destruction.

“If you studied engineering in school,  nothing stops you from getting a job with your certificate as you engage in politics,  if you studied political science and want to practice politics  it is also good, but learn to pursue your career with patience and dignity and not as a bigger, have some respect for yourself, politics is terminal,  but your profession n,  trade outlive you if you manage it well.” he said.

  • APC chief seeks crop processing centres in Ogun

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency of Ogun State, Mr. Bolaji Akinola, has called for the establishment of Staple Crop Processing Centres (SCPC) and cold chain solution for farmers in the state.

Speaking in company of some party faithful at Itori in Ewekoro Local Government Area, Akinola said SCPCs would reduce wastages of agricultural produce, increase internally generated revenue (IGR) and create jobs for youths.

He said: “Ogun State is well positioned to lead the drive for diversification of Nigeria’s economy and reduce our overdependence on oil revenue. However, it is no longer the vogue to export raw materials or agricultural produce. The way to wealth is value addition. The Staple Crop Processing Centres will help farmers to add value to their produce before they are taken to the market.

“The centres will also reduce wastages and seasonality of these crops. For instance, during rainy season, we see an abundance of certain crops, but they suddenly disappear after the season. The SCPCs will help to put an end to this development.”

Akinola, who is also a maritime expert, said Nigeria must de-emphasise the exportation of raw agricultural produce, adding that “this does not help the national economy”.

He said: “The wealth is in the hands of those who add value to crops and to raw materials. For instance, Africa exports 70 per cent of the world’s cocoa; yet, it derives less than five per cent of the $120 billion global cocoa gross domestic Product (GDP). This is because it barely adds value to its cocoa before exporting.

“In the same vein, Africa exports about 50 per cent of the world gold but accounts for less than three per cent of the gold GDP for the same reason. Only those who add value to commodities derive wealth from it.”

  • APC chief drums support for Akeredolu, Adetimehin

A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Timothy Felder Olatunji, has urged members to support the Ade Adetimehin-led Executive Committee (exco) in Ondo State.

Olatunji, who hails from Ileoluji/Okeigbo Local Government, described the process leading to the emergence of the exco as transparent to strengthen the party.

Olatunji, a senatorial aspirant, in a statement enjoined members “to ignore moves by desperate politicians to cause disaffection in the party.”

The statement said: “While congratulating our amiable Chairman of APC, Mr. Adetimehin and other members of the newly-elected Executive Committee of our great party as they take over the mantle of leadership, may I say that no process could have been more transparent than what brought the new party leadership in.

“I consider this an ample opportunity that must be celebrated by well-meaning members of our party, especially as we inch towards 2019 general election. No doubt, Adetimehin, an engineer, is a tested and trusted party man, who has demonstrated a great deal of loyalty and hard work. I, therefore, have confidence in him and his team to take the party to the next level.

“I use this medium to congratulate our governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN, for the leadership and determination to unite the party.

“At a time like this in the life of our party, all that is required is support for good leadership as exhibited by Akeredolu and Adetimehin. Both men have strived to bring together members of the party by creating platforms for participation in governance and party activities.

“May I, therefore, use this medium to call on all stakeholders in the party to unite and remain supportive of the governor and the party leadership as we march towards the national convention aimed at completing the chain of the credible processes that had been achieved at the ward, local and state levels.”

A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Prince Christopher Agaga, has urged Attorney- General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami to intervene in the suspension of Ovie Omo-Agege by the Senate.

Agaga in a statement yesterday, condemned the Senate’s decision to suppress the Senator’s right to express himself.

He said the decision meant that the Urhobo ethnic group had been left without representation.

He said: “For as long as the minister of justice does not rise to the occasion to proactively stop the constitution from being desecrated and shredded so long shall we have this regime of impunity that has now become the forte of the leadership of the Senate and House of Representatives as a cog in the wheel to the growth of democratic culture, governance and development of the country.”

“But now that we are having on our hands a repeat too many to condone, in the latest imperial action of the Senate, in suspending an elected senator who is the voice and mouthpiece of more than two million people of Delta Central Senatorial District with a backlash that  could debilitate the weak fabric of our federation especially with the perception of constituents hard hit by the suspension order that they are being technically excised from Nigeria, there cannot be a more apposite time than this for the minister to rise up to the challenge by initiating legal measures to arrest the ugly and disgusting situation with a view to reassuring the people of Delta central senatorial district who have vowed to protect their rights recognized by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Africa Charter on Human and people’s right that they are valued and recognized as an integral part of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

  • Give Tinubu’s panel a chance, APC chief tells aggrieved members

Give Tinubu’s panel a chance, APC chief tells aggrieved members

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Ekiti State, Chief Oladiran Adesua, has urged aggrieved state chapters as well as individuals, who are dissatisfied with the state of affairs in the party, to give the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Reconciliation Committee the chance to reposition the party.

President Mohammadu Buhari recently nominated the former Lagos State governor to lead a reconciliation committee with the mandate to resolve any crisis among members.

Adesua, a former Ekiti State Commissioner for Works, said the President took a good decision to have saddled Asiwaju Tinubu with the reconciliation of aggrieved party members.

He said Asiwaju Tinubu remained the most respected member of the party.

Adesua, who addressed reporters yesterday in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, said the crisis rocking some state chapters of the APC were not beyond what the party leader can resolve.

On the coalition movement being championed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the former commissioner said it was just a distraction.

He urged the leadership of the party to examine some things Obasanjo said and use it to move the party forward.

Adesua said: “My advice to our aggrieved party men and women is to give the reconciliation committee, led by our revered leader, Asiwaju Tinubu, the benefit of the doubt.

“His choice to me is a right decision by the President. He remains one of the pillars of the party. I doubt if anyone has reservations about his choice because he is well respected.

“Party crisis is part of democracy. Even in our nuclear family, there is disagreement, not to talk of a ruling party. I believe that Asiwaju Tinubu is capable of resolving the crisis rocking our party, if he is given the chance.”

On Obasanjo’s Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM), the APC governorship aspirant said the movement is not a threat to the party.

Adesua said: “The coalition is just a distraction to the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. But it will soon die. Obasanjo’s statement should be carefully examined to see if there is any lesson that could be learnt to move our party forward.”
