  • Ogun 2019: Oil magnate, Abiodun declares for governorship

    …Lauds, PMB, Tinubu on direct primary

     

     

    Oil magnate and entrepreneur, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has declared for the Ogun State governorship race, expressing the confidence that he would not only clinch the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial ticket, but also succeeds Governor Ibikunle Amosun on May 29, 2019.

    Abiodun who lauded President Muhammadu Buhari and APC national leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, for their position on direct primary as the right approach to select its candidates for electives offices, said he would focus on “mass centric” programmes and not “ones that cater for the elites or “have only visibility value,” if he emerges  as Governor in 2019.

    The APC chieftain and Real Estate investor, made this known to reporters in Iperu, his home town, Ogun State on Thursday evening while declaring his ambition to succeed Governor Amosun.

    He urged the Ogun State chapter of the APC to adopt direct primary system as the right approach for selecting governorship candidates, saying it remains the way to give party members the unfettered freedom to pick the right person from the pool of aspirants.

    According to him, the pronouncement of the party leaders like President Buhari and Tinubu – on direct primary as advocated by both, actually saves the party from further hemorrhage due to defection, since direct primary assured every party member equal chance of participation in the race in a fair and free level playing field, devoid of impositions.

    Abiodun assured that he has the intellectual capacity, experience, pedigree to govern the state and “raised the bar” because of veritable leadership and management skills garnered over the years from the private sector, adding that it would be “laughable” for anybody sit in a “corner of somewhere and appoints who should be Governor of Ogun State.”

     

  • Tight security as APC holds rally in Ekiti

    Heavy security cordon has been thrown around Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag off rally Tuesday.

    Armed security operatives are standing guard on all major roads in the city.

    Regular policemen lined the major highway in Ikere and Ado on the route to be taken by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

    Osinbajo is expected to touch down at Akure Airport and travel by road to Ado, which is about 50 minutes’ drive from the Ondo State capital.

    The vice president is expected to present the party flag to the APC governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi at the rally.

    Senior party figures including the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and former Interim National Leader, Chief Adebisi Akande, had arrived the city on Monday.

    Men of the regular and mobile police are stationed on major junctions while officers of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) were also mobilized to ensure free flow of traffic.

    The road adjacent to the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium was cordoned off with heavy security presence.

    Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Department of State Services (DSS) were seen within and outside the stadium complex.

    People entering the stadium are being frisked before being allowed in.

    The two covered terraces of the stadium are draped in green, red, white and sky blue colours of the APC.

    Television and radio stations expected to beam the rally live are also fully on ground with their Outside Broadcast (OB) Vans and other equipment.

    They include Channels TV, Television Continental (TVC), Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Ondo State Radiovision Corporation, Adaba FM, Orange FM all based in Akure and Voice FM, Ado-Ekiti.

    Two big screens have been placed on the pitch to give the spectators a better view of events on the platform.

    Entertainers billed to perform include musicians, Adewale Ayuba, Adeniyi Sese Alhaji, Apasco and DJ Jimmy Jazz.

    Gbenga Adeyinka and Akinlade Ojo will serve as Masters of Ceremony (MCs).

    Buhari calls Tinubu, condoles him over loss of son

    President Muhammadu Buhari says he is deeply grieved to learn of the passing away of Jide Tinubu, eldest son of the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

    President Buhari in a telephone call on Wednesday to Asiwaju Tinubu on behalf of the Federal Government and his family offered his deepest condolences to the Tinubu family over the loss of Jide.

    Mr Femi Adesina, the president’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, said Buhari described the transition of Jide as “sad and painful.”

    The President said that the nation had been denied the services and potentials of the resourceful lawyer.

    He prayed that God would grant the Tinubu family, friends and associates the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss, and comfort all who mourned the passage of the promising gentleman.

    The late Jide Tinubu was a graduate of the University of Liverpool, England. He obtained Master Degree in Maritime law from the University of London, and was called to Nigerian Bar in 1999.(NAN)

    Chairman of Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts and Senator representing Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani Wednesday took another swipe at Kaduna state governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai over his comment on APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu saying the comment was the height of ingratitude.

    In a statement made available to The Nation, the Senator said the contribution of the former Lagos state governor and the South West to the victory of the APC in the 2015 election was unparalleled, pointing out that without Tinubu, the victory over the PDP would have remained a mere dream.

    Sani described Tinubu as the lungs of the APC while President Buhari is the heart, adding that it was unfortunate that while el-Rufai smiles with Tinubu during the daylight he stings him at night.

    The statement reads: “The Memo written by Kaduna Governor which tends to belittle the contribution of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu and the South West is sad and unfortunate. It is perfidious and the height of ingratitude.

    “We must accept the stalk truth that without Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu and the principled position of the south West, dislodging Goodluck Jonathan and the then rulling PDP could have still remain a pipe dream, a hollow hope or a political mirage. Elrufai defecate on a broom that is supposed to clean the littered floor of the nation.

    “President Buhari is the Heart of APC and Asiwaju is the lungs. Tinubu contribution to the success of the Party is unequal. Elrufai smiles with Tinubu on broad daylight and sting him at night.He hugs Tinubu with a chest of hooks and shakes him with toxic palms.

    “Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu is a Man who built a castle for others to live and asked to appreciate the gift of a room in the boys’ quarters. Those who rubbished  a hunter who borrowed them his arrow to disable an antelope, will someday come back for same arrow to disable a lion

    “Tinubu honoured many official invitations to Kaduna unknowingly, he was backstabbed with an acidic memo. Tinubu has a history of been betrayed and has a history of overcoming betrayal.

    “The future of the APC is with Buhari and the South West. Without Buhari and the South West, the change train will derail and end in smithereens like the fate of Yoguslavia or Soviet Union.

    “President Buhari should be watchful of those who prey behind him and pray before him. Tinubu is an indispensable major component of change. My knowledge of Tinubu dates back to the NADECO days when we were in the trenches during the struggle against military dictatorship.

    “El-Rufai should publicly apologise to Tinubu and the South West for degrading their contribution to the liberation of Nigeria. To insult a man publicly and apologise to him privately is eat your cake and have it. Those heavily drinking from the liquor of power should know that they will later or lately have to drive back home.”

    Ondo guber: Tinubu, Akande have no anointed candidate – Boroffice

    The Senator representing Ondo North senatorial district, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State to disregard the rumours on purported endorsement of any of the 25 governorship aspirants of the party by its national leadership.

    A statement in Akure, the state capital by his media aide, Kayode Adeniyi, described the rumor on endorsement as needless distraction that will never aid its promoters.

    He urged the over 3,000 delegates in the party to remain vigilant and steadfast as some desperate politicians may have ignited the rumor in an attempt to derail the focus of the party on free, fair, credible and transparent primary election.

    Boroffice said he got assurances from the APC National leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former interim National chairman, Chief Bisi Akande and  party leaders in the Southwest geopolitical zone that there is nothing like anointed aspirant or endorsement as far as the governorship primary election of the party is concerned.

    The Asiwaju of Akokoland said: “As an aspirant and democrat, I have had intimate interactions and engagements with party delegates over the years.

    “The support I enjoy from them is reassuring. No distraction, whether calculated or accidental, can derail our focus on August 27, the scheduled date for primary election. My supporters and I are ready to participate and win.”
    He urged the party loyalists to comport themselves and ensure that the desired change in governance needed in the state is realised from February next year.
