Osun 2026: APC NWC to deliberate on appeal verdict on Omisore, Alabi, others

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will today receive, deliberate and ratify the report of the Osun State Screening Appeal Committee on the seven governorship aspirants disqualified to contest at the party’s Saturday shadow election.

The five-man panel led by Senator Tolu Odebiyi that conducted a two-day review of the appeals of the disqualified aspirants is expected to submit its report ahead of the meeting of the party’s highest administrative organ at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja.

The seven disqualified governorship aspirants that filed their appeal against the verdict of the Screening Committee include the former national secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore and ex-deputy governor, Benedict Alabi.

Other disqualified aspirants are Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN) and Babatunde Oralusi.

The Obinna Uzor-led Screening Committee last Friday cleared Mulikat Jimoh and Asiwaju Munirudeen Oyebamiji for the party’s Saturday primary election, having found them to have fulfilled regulatory requirements as stipulated by the party guidelines, the Constitution and the Electoral Act.

The committee, however, referred the disqualified aspirants to the National Working Committee (NWC) for final clearance before they can proceed for the shadow election.

A member of the appeal panel who spoke with our correspondent in confidence yesterday in Abuja disclosed that the committee was putting together its reports on the appeals by  the affected aspirants.

“We had fruitful sessions with all the affected aspirants. The exercise was conducted peacefully with all of them presenting the necessary evidence and documents for their defence. The two-day exercise was a family affair that was conducted peacefully.”

Asked when the committee would submit its reports on the appeal, our source said: “Our reports will be submitted to the NWC through the office of the National Organising Secretary, ahead of the NWC meeting for their deliberations.”

The delegate congress and delegate congress appeal are slated to hold tomorrow and Wednesday.

The primary election is billed for Saturday.

  • Rumoured suspension of Uzodinma null and void – APC NWC

THE National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared as illegal, the group that purportedly claimed they had suspended the governorship candidate of the party in Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, and therefore urged the people of the state to disregard it. The disbanded state executive of the party led by Dan Nwafor had claimed the party had suspended Senator Uzodinma for alleged anti party activities.

The APC in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, said that the only authority to take any decision in Imo APC, is the caretaker committee, led by Chief Marcelus Nlemigbo, adding that any other group was fake. The statement read: “The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC) of our great party APC, has been drawn to the purported expulsion of our governorship candidate in Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, through a statement signed by the former chairman of the party in Imo State, Mr. Dan Nwafor.

“We want to state categorically that the former Imo State Working Committee of the APC led by Mr. Nwafor was dissolved after majority of members of our party in Imo State lost confidence in their ability to lead the party to victory in the forthcoming general elections, especially due to their involvement in several anti-party activities. “Consequently, the NWC had since set up a caretaker committee in Imo State, led by Chief Marcelinus Nlemigbo, to pilot the affairs of the party in Imo State.

“Therefore, Mr. Nlemigbo remains the only recognised Imo State (APC) chairman and any decision which do not emanate from this recognised caretaker committee as regards the affairs of the APC in Imo State is null and void. “We call on our teeming supporters in Imo State to remain steadfast and disregard such reports, as it does not have the blessings of the NWC.

  • 2019 poll: Buhari, APC NWC may meet over campaign, reconciliation

President Muhammadu Buhari may meet All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole and members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) this week over the campaign for next year’s poll.

The meeting may also review reconciliation efforts to pacify aggrieved members.

The President has banned public officers and agencies from contributing to his campaign.

There are indications, however, that most leaders prefer the beginning of marathon rallies from January.

Other support groups can, however, engage in various campaigns nationwide.

The NWC wrote President Buhari before his trip to Poland for an audience to firm up campaign modalities.

A presidency source said: “Mr. President will soon kick off his campaign after consultations with the party. The NWC actually wrote to seek an audience with him on some issues.

“These issues are campaign modalities, determining the kick-off date, outcome of the reconciliation efforts and how to ensure victory at the poll. Do not forget that the party gave the six reconciliation panels a two-week deadline to complete their assignment.

“The President promised to meet with the NWC after his trip to Poland. So, the session may hold this week.”

Responding to a question, the source added: “ Buhari does not want public funds diverted to his campaign. He has warned public officers, ministries, departments and agencies against contributing to his campaign.

“ The President is determined to end the practice of diverting funds meant for projects to campaign. Certainly,  the 2019 poll will be based on character and the achievements of this administration.

“Government officers and heads of agencies who plan to fiddle with public funds for campaign will have themselves to blame.”

Most APC leaders prefer January for campaign shuttles in order not to disrupt the Christmas session.

Some leaders also advised the President to lay the 2019 Budget before embarking on campaign.

The huge cost implications of campaign have made the APC to target January.

A party source said: “We cannot disclose the kick-off date for our campaign until the NWC has met with the President.

“Left to most of our leaders, they have opted for a marathon campaign strategy from January 2019. But some support groups have been organising rallies and shuttles ahead of the main campaign.

“We are in government but APC does not have resources like the slush funds available to those in the opposition.

“So, we are trying to accommodate our campaign within our constrained budget.”

  • APC NWC approves cancellation of Zamfara governorship primary

    •Niger Senate primaries hold today

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has approved the cancellation the Zamfara State governorship primary election for alleged violence.

The Prof. Abubakar Faki-led Zamfara State Governorship Primary Committee announced a cancellation of the primary, and accused government officials of snatching election materials and result sheets, which they allegedly took to the Government House in Gusau.

A statement by APC’s Acting National Publicity Secretary Yekini Nabena said the NWC will announce a new date for the primary, noting that the party leadership was committed to free, fair and transparent primaries across the country.

The senatorial primaries for Niger State will hold today, a statement by Nabena said.

The statement added that Senators David Umar; A.S Abdullahi and Mustapha Sani Mohammed have been cleared by the National Working Committee (NWC) to contest the primaries.

  • APC NWC queries Saraki for breach of party’s constitution

Senate President Bukola Saraki last night got a query from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The National WorkingCommittee (NWC) accused the Senate President of breaching article 21 of the party’s constitution.

He was given 48 hours to respod to the allegations or face sanctions, which were not identified.

The resolution, signed by National Secretary Mai Mala Buni, leveled accusations against saraki as follows:

.that you encouraged and facilitated by providing an enabling environment for the defection of some senators who are members of the APC to other opposition parties.

“That you have deliberately refused to screen nominees for appointments submitted by Mr President who are members of the party from being confirmed by the Senate. This has caused untold embarrassment and ridicule to the party and the government.

“That you have organised a public rally in your state where members of the party urged you to defect to the PDP. That as a follow up to the above, the Kwara State governor who is known to be your staunch supporter,  made a public pronouncements suggesting that he will decamp from the party as an indicator to your formal defection.

“ That you used the office of the senate president to cause avoidable delays in the budgetary process and passage of the appropriation act into law thereby frustrating the implementation of the party’s manifesto and programs and frustrating the APC led Federal Government in the actualisation of the campaign promises of the party.

“Converting the guest house of the senate President to meeting points and presiding over anti APC activities in the guest house and encouraging defection of senators from the party and presiding over such meetings and compiling a list of the said defectors including some without their consent.

“Procuring joint letter of defectors from the APC and reading same on the floor of the senate including some who did not accede to defecting thereby causing embarrassment to the party.

“In spite of the efforts to address grievances to reconcile aggrieved members, you worked against the process and encouraged the formation of an association which sought to impersonate and pass off the name of the party.”
