  • APC wins in 13 states, PDP in nine as INEC declares 22 governors-elect

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared winners in 22 of the 29 states where governorship elections were held last Saturday.

    Of the states, 13 were won by candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), leaving the rest for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

    The exercise has been declared inconclusive in six states while the electoral process in Rivers State was undergoing review by the electoral umpire.

    The states where the INEC will organise supplementary elections are: Sokoto, Bauchi, Adamawa, Plateau, Benue and Kano.

    All but one of the states so far won by the opposition party are in the Southeast and the Southsouth. Only two of the elected governors  are coming into office afresh.

    The seven incumbent governors who have been declared governors-elect are: Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia); Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom); Ben Ayade (Cross River); David Umahi (Ebonyi); Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta); Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Dairus Ishaku (Taraba).

    The two new PDP governors are Emeka Ihedioha and Seyi Makinde of Imo and Oyo states. The duo dislodged the APC administration that held the forte in the states for eight years.

    Of the 13 states declared for the APC, eight are  – PDP is dislodged in Gombe (Inuwa Yahaya) and Kwara (AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq).

    The other new ones are: Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos); Dapo Abiodun (Ogun); Mai Mala Buni (Yobe); Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa); Muktar Idris (Zamfara) and Prof Babagana Zulum (Borno).

    Returned as governors-elect on the APC banner are: Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna); Aminu Bello Masari (Katsina); Abubakar Bello (Niger); Abubakar Bagudu (Kebbi) and Abubakar Badaru (Jigawa).

     

  • APC wins three senatorial, six Reps seats in Ekiti

    •Fayemi urges winners to be humble in victory

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the winners of the three senatorial and six House of Representatives in the state.

    The All Progressives Congress (APC) cruised to victory in all the three senatorial districts and won the House of Representatives seats.

    INEC’s Returning Officer for Ekiti South, Prof. Laide Lawal, declared former minister, Prince Dayo Adeyeye of the APC the winner.

    Adeyeye polled 77,621 votes to defeat Senate Minority Leader Biodun Olujimi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who recorded 53,741 votes.

    In Ekiti Central, the Returning Officer, Prof. Jeremiah Omotola, declared Michael Opeyemi Bamidele of the APC the winner, having scored the highest number of votes cast.

    Bamidele polled 94,297 to defeat Obafemi Adewale, who got 46,707 votes.

    Also, a former member of the Red Chamber, Olubunmi Adetunmbi of the APC, won Ekiti North Senatorial District’s poll.

    The Returning Officer, Prof. Fasina Abayomi Sunday, announced Adetunmbi the winner with 60,689 votes to defeat the incumbent and PDP’s candidate, Duro Faseyi, who polled 49,209 votes.

    For the House of Representatives results, Yemi Adaramodu of the APC polled 41,864 votes to defeat PDP’s candidate Segun Adekola, who scored 24,707 votes in Ekiti South Federal Constituency I.

    For Ekiti North Federal Constituency II, Olarewaju Ibrahim of the APC polled 29,388 votes to defeat Olusola Omotosho of the PDP, who got 23,684 votes.

    APC’s candidate for Ekiti Central Federal Constituency I, Sola Fatoba, scored 55,482 votes to defeat his arch rival, Ayodele Oladimeji, of the PDP, who scored 27,836 votes.

    INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Omoleye Ajayi, declared Fatoba the winner, having scored the highest number of votes cast at the poll.

    Also, Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi expressed gratitude to the people for their peaceful conduct during the elections.

    The governor spoke yesterday at the Government House Chapel in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, where he worshiped with Prince Dayo Adeyeye (senator-elect for Ekiti Central) and Sola Fatoba (member–elect, House of Representatives Ekiti Central I) as well as Prof Dupe Adelabu, his former deputy.

    He said it was evident that the nation’s democratic institutions had been consolidated.

    Fayemi sympathised with families of victims of election violence, as reported in some parts of the country, urging Nigerians to always work for peace.

    The governor advised the residents to see their victory as a product of God’s grace and not as a result of their power or might.

    He also urged the winners to be humble and focus on service delivery.

    “We have every reason to thank God for the peaceful conduct of the elections in Ekiti State. Two weeks ago, the congregation here raised prayer points concerning the peaceful conduct of the election in our state. And God indeed answered our prayers.

    “The elections held in a peaceful atmosphere in Ekiti. We pray for the repose of the lives lost during the election in some parts of the country and pray that peace will reign supreme in the country.

    “While I rejoice with the winners, I will also urge them to be humble, realising that they could not have won by their power or might but by God’s grace.

    “Validation by God and the people is an admonition to continue to do good and to exhibit generosity of spirit,” Fayemi said.

     

     

  • Kaduna polls: APC wins 15 of 19 councils

    •PDP kicks        •Chikun, Jema’a results awaited

    The All Progressives Congress (APC) won the chairmanship in 15 of 19 councils, according to results so far released in last Saturday’s local government elections in Kaduna State.

    Of the 23 councils, elections did not hold in Kaura and Jaba.

    According to the results announced by the Returning officers, APC won in Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Kubau, Sabon Gari, Soba, Zaria, Lere, Ikara, Makarfi, Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Kagarko, Kudan, Igabi and Kajuru councils.

    The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in Zango Kataf (55,643 votes); Kachia; Sanga and Kauru coucils.

    In Zaria, APC polled 42,859 votes while PDP got 16,033. In Soba, APC had 40,903 while PDP polled 13,835.

    In Makarfi, Returning Officer Musa Abdullahi Mohammed said APC polled 22,190 votes and PDP 13,088. APC also won in Giwa with 57,005 votes to beat PDP who had 2,636.

    In Kudan, APC got 76,131 as against PDP, with 3,394.

    Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi, who disagrees with Governor Nasir El-Rufai, is from Kudan.

    Returning Officer of Kaduna North Umar Hayatu said Saleh Shuaibu of the APC polled 168,572 votes, beating the PDP candidate, Mohammed Sabo Babayaro, who polled 12,467 votes.

    The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) polled 4,956 votes.

    Governor El-Rufai is form Kaduna North.

    At Unguwar Sarki ward, APC polled 14,863, while PDP got 706.

    Results of the rest five councils were being awaited last night.

    But Chairman of the PDP, Felix Hassan Hyet, said his party was short changed.

    He vowed that the party will contest the results.

    Hyet, who addressed reporters at the party’s secretariat, said the party would release its observations.

    According to him, party agents have submitted their reports and the party will follow due process in seeking redress.

    He claimed most results were announced on the radio, and not from Returning officers, who he alleged disappeared.

    APC wins Jigawa elections

    ALL Progressive Congress (APC) has won all the three Senatorial seats contested in last Saturday general election in Jigawa state.

    The APC’s presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari won the presidential election in the state.

    Declaring the presidential election result, the returning officer – Professor James Ayatsa – who is the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Katsina, announced that General Buhari scored 885, 988 while President Goodluck Jonathan scored 143, 904 votes.
