  • Exhibit tolerance, love says APC women leader

All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Leader in Lagos State, Jumoke Okoya-Thomas has urged Muslims to exhibit love, tolerance and act of giving.

Okoya-Thomas stated that Prophet Muhammad displayed the attributes during his life time.

Time, she said, has come for all Nigerians to come together as one.

She urged Lagosians to continue working for the development of the state.

“I want the women to know that I am always with them and I will ensure that they continue to get the best from our government.

“You can also testify that the government of Akinwunmi Ambode has been working hard to make the state the best in Nigeria. His developmental projects are second to none and I can assure you that the best is yet to come from him.

“Governor Ambode has proven to be a man of his word as he has fulfilled virtually all his campaign promises with potentials to do more if he is given another opportunity to serve the state,” she said.

Africa needs China, says APC women leader

The short and long term gains of a mutually beneficial economic relationship between Africa and China have been re-emphasised.

According to the President, Council of African Political Parties (CAPP) Women wing, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, the relationship would be a win-win situation that would also improve the socio-economic status of the peoples of Africa and Asia.

Aliyu, who is also the National Woman Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), made this assertion in Beijing, China during a three- day conference on the objectives of the ‘Silk Road’ project for a dynamic Afro-Asian relationship.

The summit, which held under the auspices of International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) with the theme ‘New Vision of the Silk Road: Action for Common Development,’ explored issues of political leadership, economic integration, cultural bond and new impetus for emerging economies.

While highlighting the diplomatic benefits of the Silk Road initiatives, she said: “This project would enhance a people-to-people cultural exchange and mutual learning among the peoples of the relevant countries, and enable them to understand, trust and respect each other and live in harmony, peace and prosperity.”

Noting that the project could not have come at a better time when the world is confronted with challenges in various strata of the global economic chain, Aliyu however enthused that Africa remains a willing partner in progress and that the countries along the Belt will benefit immensely from what Africa and indeed the APC-led government of Nigeria has to offer.

These, she added, include natural resource-extractive commodities, agricultural goods such as cotton, cocoa and other traditional African exports, non-traditional exports such as processed commodities, light manufactured products, house-hold consumer goods, food, and tourism.

Aliyu noted the importance of women in global economic development while commending President Muhammadu Buhari for giving six ministerial slots to women.

  • Mrs Buhari, Osinbajo call for women appointment

Mrs Buhari, Osinbajo call for women appointment

The wife of the President, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, has appealed to governments at all levels to ensure fair representation of women in appointments.

She made the appeal on Saturday night when she hosted Nigerian women and youths to an appreciation dinner for their support toward her husband’s victory in the last general election.

The dinner held at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Mrs Buhari expressed concern that the number of elected women in governance had reduced drastically in this new dispensation, saying that National and State Assemblies are the worst hit.

“This is not fair; we are not asking for equal representation but fair representation in governance.

“We must all make case for the fair representation of women and other challenges facing them especially the high rate of divorcees in the North and harmful widowhood practices in some part of the South East.

The wife of the president expressed regret that the rate of divorce among young women is a major setback, stressing that something has to be done to check the trend.

“Also, the issue of sexual harassment of female students in our tertiary institutions must be checked.” She called for the speedy implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act.

Mrs Buhari also dispelled the rumour that she was kept in the purdah (Islamic seculation) by her husband during the last Presidential campaigns.

She said it was her personal decision not to come out for campaign because she needed to take care of the home front while her husband was in the field campaigning.

“It was Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who talked me into it before I decided to join the train. I have never been in purdah since I got married to my husband.

“My husband is a very gender sensitive man with many daughters. He even allowed me to go to school and to cut the long matter short, he is the pillar of my success.”

Also speaking, the wife of the Vice President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, thanked the women for their support and urged them to continue to promote national unity.

“Nigerians are people with strong faith; we as women must wake up and defend its unity. It is time for us to stop fragmenting this country; Nigeria needs something new. A new Nigeria means a new You,” Mrs Osinbajo said.

Earlier, the APC Women Leader, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, said that the party leadership must ensure that they deliver on the change they had promised Nigerians.

She said the dinner was meant to appreciate those who made the change possible by touring all parts of the country to campaign for the party’s victory.

Former Rivers state governor, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, who was also the Director-General of the Buhari/Osinbajo Presidential Campaign Organisation, was the Chairman of the occasion.

Other dignitaries were wife of the President of the Senate, Mrs Toyin Saraki; wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Gimbia Dogara.

The rest were wife of the National Chairman of the APC, Mrs Victoria Odigie-Oyegun; wives of APC state governors and APC female deputy governors as well as wives of former governors.

The APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, was represented at the occasion by Sen. Babafemi Ojudu.

  • I wasn’t arrested, says APC women leader

I wasn’t arrested, says APC women leader

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Leader in Ojokoro, Lagos, Mrs Basirat Ojugbele, has refuted the claim that she was arrested on Saturday with electoral materials.

She said the online report was out to dent  her image and create panic among party supporters and leaders.

Her words: “It must be the work of my political detractors. But God is more than them. It’s difficult for me to understand how such a thing can happen.

“I do not know what exactly they had in mind. But I know that it is the work of my detractors.

“To start with, I do not work with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), so why should anyone imagine that I can be with electoral materials?

“I was never with any electoral materials, not to talk of being caught by security operatives! How can I be in possession of election materials, where will I use them?

Asked further about the photograph used along with the  story, Mrs. Ojugbele said: “No, it wasn’t me. I am not the one, check the photograph again, if you look at the vehicle very well, you will notice that it looks old and dirty, like an abandoned vehicle.

“The bus and plate number used is not mine and the photograph was dubiously smeared not to appear very well.”
