Ex-Abia Assembly deputy speaker defects  to APC

Former Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Ifeanyi Uchendu, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Uchendu, from Isiama Ward, who served in the 7th Abia Assembly and represented Ohafia South State Constituency, was the chairman, Media and Publicity and spokesman for the House of Assembly.

The ex-deputy speaker on May 24, 2017 joined the PDP from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), where he was elected to represent Ohafia South in the 6th Abia House of Assembly.

Speaking at the PDP secretariat, Finbarr’s road in Umuahia after rejoining from APGA, he said: “I consulted with my God, my people and members of my constituency before I took the decision to join PDP,” citing the crisis at APGA national leadership as reasons for his decision to go back to the PDP.

In an exclusive phone interview with our correspondent, the lawmaker, stating why he joined the APC, said: “I became a member of Abia State House of Assembly on the platform of APGA in 2015.

“I was doing well for our people, which is the most important thing. But there was need to reconnect my people to the mainstream of Abia politics that led to my joining the PDP. I joined the PDP while I had the mandate of my people.”

Reacting to criticisms that he was ungrateful to abandon a party that helped him rise through political ranks in state, he said: “Yes, I became the deputy speaker of Abia State House of Assembly due to my performance, experience and other factors.

“If I didn’t do well in my position, it would have been a curse to the PDP. But I performed well.

“At that time, my people only listened to what PDP had to say because I was there and distinguished myself at the same time.

“So it can be said that it was a mutual benefit. I promoted the party through my performance and activities.”

On why he chose APC against the ruling Labour Party (LP) in the state and what his presence would bring to the new party, Uchendu said: “APC is a national party, the ruling party in the country.

“If you must know, I contested election to represent my people at the Federal House.

“I was already yearning to push towards national politics after contributing my quota at the state level. It’s time to move to national politics.

“It will also help others to have an opportunity to grow politically at the grassroots before getting to our level.”

Ondo 2024: Pick candidate from core South, says APC group

A group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ondo Rennaisance Group (ORG), has cautioned major stakeholders in the party not to give the governorship ticket to a particular local government it considers minority in Ondo South.

The group said its decision is about ensuring the nominee is someone who can gather more votes in the six local government area of Ondo south senatorial district.

A statement by ORG coordinator, Samson Omogbein, stated that inhabitants of Ilaje, Ese Odo, Irele, Okitipupa and Odigbo, see them as minority whose culture and geographical location relate to that of Ondo Kingdom.

He said: “What we are saying in essence is that the party should not waste the ticket. The Ikales and Ilajes accounts for 90% of the population of Ondo South who are mostly known for their unique traditions, language, customs and values.”

Omogbein said despite the fact that Ile Oluji/Oke Igbo local council areas are geographically and culturally situated within Ondo-speaking area, it was ceded to Ondo South senatorial district for administrative convenience.

He noted a candidate picked from the axis won’t appeal to people in the core south, especially if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) fields a candidate from any of the core south South.

He said the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the State will pick a candidate from the core South as well, adding that any attempt for APC to pick candidate from Ile oluji will spell doom for the party.

“What we are saying is that if APC pick a candidate from there and present it to us in the South, it would be seen as a sign of weakness, and would alienate voters from other parts of the southern region. In that case, the best strategy for the APC would be to pick a candidate from one of the other local governments in the southern part of Ondo State.

“We don’t want to start losing at home on election day,” he stated.

Former Abia Assembly deputy speaker dumps PDP for APC

The immediate past deputy speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Ifeanyi Uchendu has decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

APC chieftain to IG: probe hackers of my social media accounts

The Agadiwei of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Michael Johnny has urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to investigate  what he called the suspicious hacking of his social media accounts ( WhatsApp and Facebook) respectively.

The All Progressives Congress (APC)  chieftain in Delta State, in a statement  said the IGP’s intervention has become necessary to curtail whatever sinister motives to be perpetrated by the criminals.

He called for the arrest of the culprits who are out to tarnish his image.

He said: “Two weeks ago I noticed that unknown scammers hacked my WhatsApp account and they have been illegally using the hacked WhatsApp account to solicit for funds and also defrauding friends. To my knowledge, and what some of the victims have reported to me, about 28 persons have been defrauded who have so far paid  over N6 million to the scammers.

“ Shockingly, few days ago my Facebook account was hacked as well. And I am beginning to suspect that the criminals have ulterior motive for hacking my WhatsApp and Facebook accounts. I am worried that the scammers and criminals might intentionally or chose to go further to use the hacked accounts for untoward and implicative acts likely to malign my hard-earned reputation.”

According to the APC chieftain the hackers  were  still using the hacked accounts to collect money from unsuspecting people.

“I am raising the alarm to you and also urging you to carry out an investigation to unravel whoever that has  embarked on this condemnable act. Elections are over and winners have been affirmed by Courts, and I have moved on by returning  to focus on my private business for family survival,” he added.

  • You are idle, complicit spectators, APC hits back at PDP Govs

You are idle, complicit spectators, APC hits back at PDP Govs

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday, February 18, took a swipe at the governors of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for asking President Bola Tinubu to resign, describing the call as “noxious executive flippancy.”

The party said the frivolous outbursts of the PDP governors, “who are blind to their constitutional responsibilities have not only become their identity but exhibited them as viciously complicit spectators in the affairs of their states and citizens”.

Reacting to the PDP ggovernor’s call on the president and the ruling party to throw in the towel in the face of the ongoing economic hardship in the country, APC national publicity secretary, Felix Morka, in a statement in Abuja on Sunday said the opposition governors rather than face their constitutional responsibilities have turned themselves into a band of doomsday vocalists.

The statement reads: “Basking in willful blindness to their constitutional responsibilities, governors elected on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a statement, yesterday, advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to “throw in the towel” if he can’t govern Nigeria anymore. This noxious executive flippancy has now become a badge of identity for these idle but viciously complicit spectators in the affairs of their states and citizens.

“A federal system like ours operates on the idea of shared, constitutionally delineated responsibilities among the three tiers of government – federal, state and local governments. Effective governance requires collaboration and coordination among all three levels to deliver the promise of democracy to all citizens. By their membership of the National Economic Council and National Council of State, governors bear a solemn duty, where possible, to proffer constructive ideas or solutions to the challenges of governance of our nation.”

Admitting that though the governors like all citizens are entitled to their opinion, Morka cautioned that such right should exercised against a standard of respectability and reasonableness.

Lampooning the PDP governors, Morka said: “Reckless utterances capable of inflaming passions and social upheaval must be avoided. Likening Nigeria to Venezuela as the PDP governors did in a recent communique, even under the prevailing challenging economic and security contexts of Nigeria, is unhelpful and smacks of unrighteous indignation.

“Rather than live up to their responsibilities as chief executive officers of Nigeria’s federating units, the PDP governors have turned themselves into a band of doomsday vocalists, raising their voices to deafening decibels intended to drown the groans of their citizens battered by their critical inertia, ineptitude and dismal performance as governors of their states.

“As the federal buck “ultimately stops” at the President’s table state buck “ultimately stops” at the governors’ table. The PDP governors’ call to the President to throw in the towel is nothing short of self-indictment.

“It is cringeworthy that the same governors that have never justified the massive federal allocations to their states, that have perennially stifled and dispossessed local government administrations of federally allocated funds are talking about “buck”.

“How can a governor of a state in utter shambles like Delta participate, barefaced, in a talk about “buck”? Has the PDP governor of Delta state even attempted to justify the over 483.57 Billion Naira federal allocation to the state in 2023? Which part or sector of Delta state bears witness to the use of that huge allocation? Delta state retirees have remained desperately pulverized by PDP’s uninterrupted reckless rule since the advent of this Republic in 1999.

“Since the buck also stops at the PDP governors’ table at the state level, they should practice what they preach by resigning from their offices rather than blaming the federal administration for their utter failure to mobilize massive resources at their disposal to improve living conditions of their people.”

The ruling party maintained that President Bola Tinubu is taking responsibility and providing solid leadership in this historic season of deep and enduring economic transformation in our country.

According to Morka, “The administration has initiated bold and far-reaching reforms that are indispensable to economic recovery, sustainable growth and prosperity. Our people are going through transient but painful difficulties that the administration is supremely determined to mitigate as these policies begin to yield the desired results.

“Nigerians deserve to live in peace and security, with access to basic social and economic amenities. Our Party and administration patience during these turbulent times as our nation soars unstoppably to firmer grounds and a more prosperous future,” Morka assured Nigerians.

Edo 2024: Confusion as APC’s parallel primaries produce two winners

    • Uzodinma announces Idahosa; Okpebholo declared winner at Ize-Iyamu’s residence
    • I’m the authentic winner, says Agba •Only Uzodinma-led committee can announce results – Morka

Confusion erupted yesterday in the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the declaration of House of Representatives member Dennis Idahosa as winner of the party’s governorship primary.

Chairman of the Primary Election Committee and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, declared Idahosa winner at Protea Hotel, Government Reservation Area (GRA), Benin at the end of the collation of results from the 18 local government areas of the state.

The result was however disputed by Senator Monday Okpebholo (Edo Central) and the immediate past Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Agba, both of who said they won the primary election.

Idahosa, who currently represents Ovia constituency in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, was credited with 40,453 votes.

Senator Monday Okpebholo had 100 votes.

Details of the result as announced by Uzodimma are as follows: Blessing Agbomhere – 50 votes, Maj.Gen. Charles Airhiavbere (rtd.) – 162; Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor – 180; Col. David Imuse (rtd.) – 400;  Dr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe – 02; Gideon Ikhine – 700; Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu – 02; Anamero Dekeri – 230; Prince Clem Agba – 100 and Chief Lucky Imasuen – 02.

Uzodimma described the primary conducted by his committee as the authentic one.

He said it was peaceful in the state’s 192 wards.

However, armed thugs invaded Lushville Hotel and Suites, Gapiona Avenue, GRA, Benin, the initial collation centre at about 2.52 pm, sparking pandemonium.

The collation officers were on break when the thugs struck.

The State Collation Officer, Dr. Stanley Ughoajah, halted the live transmission of the proceeding by some national television stations.

Okpekholo, at the time of the invasion, was leading Idahosa in six of the 18 local government areas already collated.

Okpekholo was ahead in Ikpoba/Okha, Esan Southeast, Oredo, Esan West, Owan West and Esan Central, while Idahosa led in Akoko-Edo LGA and his Ovia Southwest LGA.

Journalists who had gathered to cover the process were injured and their equipment destroyed.

Party officials and other stakeholders were similarly attacked and the highbrow hotel’s facilities damaged.

The many policemen and other security operatives at the venue appeared overwhelmed by the turn of events.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present at both collation centres.

As Uzodimma was rounding off the declaration of the results, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who had withdrawn from the race on Friday, invited reporters to his residence in GRA, Benin, where Okpebholo was declared winner of the parallel election by Dr. Stanley Ugboajah, the Collation Officer.

Okpebholo, according to Ugboajah, received 12,145 votes and Idahosa 5,536 votes.

Signs of trouble had emerged earlier in the day when two more aspirants joined Ize-Iyamu in withdrawing from the primary election.

First to throw in the towel yesterday was a former deputy governor of the state, Chief Lucky Imasuen and later Dr. Ernest  Umakhihe.

Imasuen in a letter addressed to his supporters said his decision to withdraw was in “the interest of peace and unity of our great party,” and because “members of our National Working Committee (NWC), in their wisdom, have expressed their preference for zoning the governorship position to Edo Central Senatorial District.”

He pledged to support “whoever emerges as our candidate in the primary election.”

Soon after pulling out of the race, Umakhihe declared support for “the choice of the party,” Idahosa.

Umakhihe, a retired federal permanent secretary, Edo North Senatorial District, said: “It has been a worthwhile journey of our resolve to make a difference in the affairs of our dear Edo State. However, following my latest interaction with the party’s leadership, I will not be contesting the primaries.

“Let us give our support to Hon. Dennis Idahosa, who is the choice of the party. There are greater days ahead.”

Agba: Based on the authentic turnout, we clinched victory

Agba, who also laid claim to victory, thanked his supporters for their “loyalty and support for my candidature.”

He said: “To my good people of Edo State and esteemed members of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, I want to thank you for your loyalty and support for my candidature.

“Unfortunately, what we have all witnessed in the APC party primaries in Edo State on Saturday February 17th, 2024 falls below the minimum standard of democratic elections that is universally acceptable.

“I believe strongly that thousands of loyal party members were disenfrachished. Based on the authentic turnout, we clinched victory.

“The result so far announced is a ridicule and undermines the principles of democracy and fair play. The votes of the people did not count, the processes of election were compromised and the strength and unity of our party greatly undermined.

“While I remain a loyal party member, I will not be part of a process that robs the mass of our loyal party members of their inalienable right to vote.

“What has taken place in Edo State negates all that even our political leaders have taught us over the years about democracy, the will of the people, one man, one vote and justice and fair play.

“We must come together to challenge this great injustice and restore the integrity and strength of our great party.

“Such impunity that the people have been subjected to should have no place in our great party.

“We will proceed speedily within the guidelines laid down by our party to seek for justice.

“I want to thank everyone that has supported me for your unwavering commitment and belief in our vision and qualification. Your passion and dedication have been the driving force behind our campaign, and I am truly grateful.

“As we move forward, remember that our journey is far from over. We will continue to fight for a better future for Edo State, a future where every citizen can thrive and succeed.

“Our resolve is unbreakable, and our commitment unwavering. We will not rest until justice is served and the people’s will is honoured.

“Thank you, and let us march forward with courage and conviction.”

Edo will vote massively for me, says Idahosa

Idahosa, who was accompanied by his wife, Osaretin, in his acceptance speech at Protea Hotel, Benin, expressed gratitude to  President Bola Tinubu and “my leader, Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole” and the people, especially his constituents in  for “giving me the mandate in 2019 and 2023, which gave me the opportunity to shine in the National Assembly. “

Continuing, he said:”There is no Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State. The September 21, 2024 governorship election will be between APC and Labour Party (LP).

“In LP, 80 per cent of the members will align with the younger generation. Obedient Movement is between the age bracket of 18 and 45. I happen to be in that constituency (age bracket). Edo residents will massively vote for me.”

Only Uzodinma can announce primary result – APC

The APC urged party members and the public to disregard unofficial results for the Edo State governorship primary.

The party maintained that only the Governor Hope Uzodinma-led Primary Election Committee is authorised to undertake final collation and announce the final results.

National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, in a statement on Saturday dissociated the party from a live broadcast on national television and online platforms announcing results.

The statement reads: “The attention of the National Working Committee of our great Party has been drawn to a live broadcast on major national television stations and online news outlets of results of the ongoing Edo State APC Governorship Primary Election by some unauthorized persons

“We wish to state categorically that only the Governor Hope Uzodinma-led Edo State APC Governorship Primary Election Committee is duly authorised to undertake the final collation and announcement of results of the Primary Election in the State.

“We urge all Party members, officials in the State, and the general public to disregard the said announcement of results by these unauthorized persons.”

Amoboye, also,  member of the Yoruba Education Trusfund ( YETFUND,) said in a press release that this has been the convention and therefore appealed to the remaining aspirants not to waste their money but  wait for their time.

He said what is essential now is for all hands to be on deck with Governor Ayedatiwa and his Deputy, Chief Olayide Adelami to finish the good race started by the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

He commended Ayedatiwa for demonstrating to be a man of peace and progress by picking his Deputy from Owo to appease the people of Ondo North and mobilised contractors back to sites to continue with the development projects started by Akeredolu.

As the ruling party, Amoboye said eyes of APC leaders must remain focused on the ball in Ondo State in preparation for the 2027  Presidential election.

Therefore automatic ticket should be guaranteed for Ayedatiwa    being the man Providence has put in power for victory in November.

Ondo APC Reps caucus writes Tinubu, accuses Aiyedatiwa of working for opposition

The Ondo state APC caucus in the House of Representatives has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to help save the legacies of the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu

The federal lawmakers also accused Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of undermining the party’s interests in the state.

In an open letter signed by six APC members from the state, they alleged that Governor Aiyedatiwa is actively undoing Akeredolu’s achievements and collaborating with political opponents to tarnish his legacy even after his death.

The lawmakers highlighted discrepancies between agreements made with the President before Akeredolu’s death and actions taken by Aiyedatiwa such as dissolving local government and state Executive Councils without allowing them the opportunity to pay their last respects to the late governor.

The letter reads: “First and foremost, we extend our gratitude for your steadfast leadership and commitment to the progress of our great nation. We therefore write this open letter with a deep sense of concern, as it is imperative to address the issues that have arisen subsequent to the swearing-in of the state governor, of Honorable Lucky Aiyedatiwa on the heels of the demise one man who man who stood firm and unwavering in the clamour for power shift to the South, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON.

“The purpose of this letter is to highlight these concerns, which are shared by concerned members, leaders, and staunch supporters of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ondo State. We believe that it is crucial to address these issues promptly to ensure the stability and prosperity of our state.

As we delve into the heart of the matter, we kindly request your attention to the following highlighted areas of concern

The letter further read: “Mr. President, we would like to bring to your attention the unfortunate lack respect displayed by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa towards the late former Governor of our esteemed state, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, It is disheartening to witness how Governor Aiyedatiwa transformed a solemn occasion, such as his swearing-in ceremony, into a festive and joyous celebration.

“To make matters worse, he even exclaimed “Aku Orire” (congratulations to us) during the swearing-in. This action demonstrated a clear lack of sensitivity and callousness. It is important to note that the swearing-in took place barely eight hours after the announcement of Akeredolu’s passing. This revealed the depth of Mr. Aiyedatiwa’s perfidious demeanor.

“Sir, it is truly shocking that what should have been a solemn swearing-in event was instead, turned into an opportunity to celebrate a perceived “victory,” where those who remained loyal to the late Akeredolu were insulted and embarrassed right inside the hall where the event took place to the admiration and silent acquiescence of Governor Aiyedatiwa.

“Since his swearing-in as Governor, Mr. Aiyedatiwa has made series of decisions that indicate his animosity towards the late Governor and his lack of concern for the party’s growth in the state. Mr. President, you would be surprised to learn that Mr. Aiyedatiwa has been associating with staunch political enemies of the late Akeredolu and even cozying up to the opposition party.

“The Deputy Governor appointed by Mr. Aiyedatiwa is a well-known political adversary of the late Governor. Despite hailing from Owo, they never saw eye to eye during the late Governor’s lifetime.

“Olajide Adelami caused a great deal of trouble for the late Akeredolu during his bid for re-election in 2020 to which you were committed. In fact, the reports of violence, thuggery, and intimidation in Owo were solely orchestrated and executed by Adelami. It is disheartening that Mr. Aiyedatiwa chose such an individual to join him in completing the late Akeredolu’s tenure.

“Furthermore, it has become common knowledge in the state that Mr. Aiyedatiwa has aligned himself with every disgruntled and established political enemy of the late Akeredolu. The reasoning and strategy behind this overt political move remain incomprehensible.

“Moreover, is it necessary to kick a man who is already lying in the mortuary, waiting to be laid to rest six feet below?

“The appointment of Barrister Kola Olawoye, a suspended APC member and former Attorney General of the state, as Aiyedatiwa’s campaign coordinator in Owo has been widely condemned by loyal party members, particularly in Owo. Olawoye’s prior affiliations with the opposition party are more than enough reason to discredit him from serving in the APC-led administration.

“Therefore, his appointment as Aiyedatiwa’s campaign coordinator in Owo is a blatant disregard for the principles that should bind the party together. It is a gross absurdity.

“Recent events have revealed Governor Aiyedatiwa’s apparent eagerness to erase the legacy of the late Akeredolu. From the moment he took office and refused to observe a minute of silence in honour of his late principal (supposed) and presumed benefactor, he has been assuming credit for the successes and achievements of the late Akeredolu.

“For instance, the announcement of the payment of N35,000 palliative allowance for civil servants and the settlement of January 2017 salary arrears, which were previously approved by the late Akeredolu, were erroneously presented as early actions taken by Governor Aiyedatiwa. These deliberate actions raise concerns, Mr. President.

“Furthermore, Governor Aiyedatiwa proceeded to dissolve the entire local government structures, including chairmen, councillors, and all government aides and appointees. This calculated move aims to erase the footprint of his late boss, and has left the party in a state of disarray.

“Many individuals of sound judgment have questioned why the Governor couldn’t even wait until the man who appointed these council chairmen was laid to rest before dismissing them from their positions. Why the haste?

“Mr. President, the Governor has created a significant divide and caused deep discord among party members. Currently, the party’s state Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, is being marginalized and sidelined. To make matters worse,

“Governor Aiyedatiwa has resorted to sending his proxies to warn the Chairman and pressure him into resigning. It is a bad situation, sir.

“For instance, when the Governor convened a meeting of party stakeholders, Engr. Ade Adetimehin received the invitation just like other ordinary party members. However, the true party stakeholders were conspicuously absent from the gathering. This covert maneuver has only served to exacerbate the existing rift within the party and widening the cracks even further.

“There is a growing divide within our party; and it is occasioned by the seed of enmity sown by Governor Akeredoto. Those who were once loyal to Akeredolu have been sidelined, while individuals from the opposition who alligned with Mr. Aiyedatiwa in the fight against the late Akeredolu, demanding that he relinquished power to Aiyedatiwa when he was sick, now hold significant positions within the government and party.

“These actions have had a cumulative effect, resulting in the emergence of animosity within the party. The primary concern is clear: we must prevent Ondo State from falling into the hands of the opposition due to internal conflicts. As the party grapples with this tumultuous period, the urgent need for decisive and unifying leadership becomes more evident than ever.

“The decision made by Ayedatiwa to dissolve the Ondo State Executive Council has raised concerns and is being criticized as ill-conceived, imprudent, and misguided on multiple fronts. One of the main criticisms is the perceived rush behind the decision. Many questioned why the Governor couldn’t wait until the final burial of AKEREDOLU before taking such a drastic step.

“It is argued that allowing the cabinet members to attend Akeredolu’s burial would have been a fitting tribute and a way to honour his legacy. By dissolving the Executive Council before the burial, it is seen as depriving these individuals of the opportunity to pay their last respects and show their support during this difficult time.

“Furthermore, it is a clear lack of empathy and show of insensitivity towards the grieving process of Akeredolu’s family and the political associates who are mourning his demise.

“Additionally, dissolving the cabinet in such a manner raises questions about the rationale behind the decision. The timing and the lack of a clear explanation for the dissolution has led to series of speculations and doubts about the true motivations behind Ayedatiwa’s actions.

“Despite the advice from party elders to delay any appointments until the final burial of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, his successor-governor chose to ignore their counsel.

“To exacerbate the situation, he even appointed Omotayo Oluwatuyi (Tukana) as the Secretary to the Government of Ondo State (SGG), without consulting with you Mr. President, who had recently appointed Oluwatuyi as a representative of Ondo State in the National Population Commission. These actions demonstrated a clear disregard for the party’s leadership in the state and President Tinubu.

“It is our fervent hope that Ondo, the Sunshine state, will be saved from further turmoil, and that the APC’s influence in the state will not wane. As representatives of the good people of Ondo State in the National Assembly, we pray that your Presidency will be guided by divine wisdom, resulting in remarkable development, peace, prosperity and renewed hope for all Nigerians.”

Ondo 2024: Group seeks Tinubu, APC leaders’ support for Oke

President Bola Tinubu and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been urged to support Chief Olusola Oke to become the next Governor of Ondo State.

A political group in the state, Ondo APC Reformers, made the plea after a crucial stakeholder meeting in Akure.

The group’s chairman, Reverend Abimbola Obe, and its public relations officer, Frederick Ademola, commended Oke’s experience and development of human capital, calling him a well-suited candidate to steer the state in the right direction.

They lauded the APC’s leadership in Nigeria for upholding justice and truth, as well as for supporting credible, open, and free primaries to select the party’s nominee for the November election.

The group said: “The stakeholders from the 18 local governments of Ondo State gathered in Akure to decide where the group would stake its position on the primary election to pick who will represent our party in the next election.

“While we are deeply concerned about the situation, we want to state equivocally that we are behind our leader and mentor, Chief Olusola Oke, SAN. We are convinced that he has the requirements to lead our state at a time like this. We would have commenced rallies and consultations but for the respect for our late Gov, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, who will buried next week.

“After his burial, political activities will start in earnest to decide our next Governor. We are using this medium to call on our father and leader, President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and our party leaders to support their own Olusola Oke, SAN for Governor.

“We believe in his capacity to lead our dear state. That is why we will work assiduously to make him succeed. We count on everybody’s support.”
