  • PDP to INEC: declare Imo North senatorial result

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has charged the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu to direct the immediate announcement of the already collated results of the February 23, 2019 Imo North Senatorial election, as well as March 9 rerun poll, in which the PDP candidate, Hon. Ndubueze Patrick, is said to be in clear lead.

The party cautions that the continuous delay in announcing the final result, after returns have been established at the polling units, wards and local government levels is already heightening tension in the state.

A statement Friday by the spokesman for the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, said its public knowledge that the results have been moved to INEC headquarters in Abuja following the alleged harassment of INEC officials in Imo state by agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Action Alliance (AA).

The statement said, “From the collated results in the February 23 elections, the PDP won in all the local governments in Imo North before polls in two local governments; Isiala Mbano and Ehime Mbano were cancelled and scheduled for rerun.

“Already, from the results declared, the PDP led in Okigwe, Onuimo, Obowo and Ihite/Uboma Local Government Areas with 21, 254, ahead of APC and AA, which scored 12,756 and 12,236 respectively.

“At the March 9 rerun elections, when the AA and the APC realized that the PDP was winning, they resorted to mutilation and alteration of results, particularly with the collaboration of collation officers in Ehime Mbano, before the intervention of the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), who called for proper scrutiny of documents following protests by the people.

“The PDP believes that the INEC had completed its investigation on the documents and results of the rerun election, which established our victory in that election.

“The party therefore urges Prof. Yakubu to douse the tension in Imo state by directing the declaration of the final results and return our candidate, Ndubueze Patrick, who has been legitimately elected by the people of Imo North to represent them at the Senate”.

  • Cross River: APC alleges killing of members

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State has alleged the killing of several of its members, who refused to be compromised, during the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections by agents of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led state government.

The party, which made the accusation in a statement by its acting chairman, Sir John Ochala, rejected the results of the election, which saw the PDP emerge winners.

The statement, made available to The Nation in Calabar read, “The All Progressives Congress Cross River State hereby informs the General Public that we dissociate ourselves from this rape of democracy in the name of Governorship and State House of Assembly  Elections.

We are all witnesses to the day light robbery of our collective will and mandate, led by the PDP state government in active connivance with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security operatives.

Despite the very responsible manner in which our teeming party faithful and supporters went about their civic responsibility, the PDP in desperation to perpetuate their evil agenda killed several of our members who refused to compromise and resisted the vote stuffing carried out by the PDP.

“We call on all APC members and well-wishers to remain calm and go about their lawful duties without let or hindrance while the party leadership explores all avenues within legal limits to correct this aberration.”

Also addressing reporters in Calabar, the governorship candidate of the Young Democratic Party (YDP), Emmanuel Undie, rejected the results saying there were no elections in the state.

Undie accused the security agencies and INEC of colluding with agents of the PDP to rig the elections.

He vowed to pursue all constitutional means to ensure the exercise is cancelled.

“There were no elections in Cross River State. It was not free and fair, a lot of people were disenfranchised and there was no safety and security for the people. I personally saw SUVs filled with thugs with automatic weapons moving freely with government number plate numbers.

“We witnessed carting away materials by thugs, multiple thumb printing. There were also swapping of result sheets; hence whatever happened in the field was an exercise in futility. People only went out to waste their time. The police, supposed to protect law abiding citizens, were aiding thugs against the citizens. The results were cooked up,” he alleged.

  • Sokoto PDP, APC prepare for rerun

Sokoto State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) are warming up for the Mach 23 supplementary.

The rerun is taking place in 10 days from now in polling units in Sokoto, Adamawa, Bauchi, Kano, Benue and Plateau states. Not a single stakeholder in the show is spared of the pulse and momentum fast building in the affected states.

It will be another test of popularity and support between the political heavy weights on the two major platforms whose governorship candidates remain the focus of voters anxiously waiting to replicate their choices in the most hottest  but dicey political battle.

Parties and candidates of the two contending platforms have been forced to the drawing board with ideas and strategies to woo the confidence of electorates as meetings were kicked started simultaneously on how to deliver their parties.

However, no fewer than 75,403 voters in 136 polling units across 22 local governments in Sokoto state are expected to turn out for the most challenging and difficult to make exercise on the sides of the candidates.

The stake is high between PDP’s candidate, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who already is basking on the 3,413 votes advantage against his opponent of the APC, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.

Tambuwal had 489,558 votes edge over 486,145 scored by Aliyu Sokoto which produced the narrow margin for the sitting governor ahead of his opponent.

Tambuwal also while responding to questions from reporters if he would participate in the rerun if date was fixed while in court said” Our court action will not stop us from participating. We want to make sure the right thing is done based on constitutional provisions” both remarked after announcing the inconclusiveness of the exercise in readiness to participate in the rerun.

  • Umahi set to join APC?

Ebonyi state governor, David Umahi is set to decamp to the All Progressives Congress (APC), latest May 29th.

The candidate of the APC, Senator Sonni Ogbuoji disclosed this in Enugu while rejecting the just concluded governorship election in which Umahi who ran on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner.

In his words: “the information we have now is that while the governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, had acted as a mole in PDP all along, he has started making moves to ditch PDP and cross over to the APC on or before May 29.

We are aware that the votes that enthroned Umahi were procured with the connivance of the system, a reason there are gloomy faces all over the state after the announcement of the claimed victory.”

The senator who is representing Ebonyi South in the upper chamber told reporters that having known the antecedents of the governor, they would not accept him in APC.

He also blamed the failure of the party in the election on the internal wrangling among the members.

“What rather happened as all party insiders know is that the APC in Ebonyi worked so much against itself. By this allusion, I don’t indict all the members or leadership, I am actually taking about the moles among us that double dealt and made things impossible for us while they cloaked like part of us.”

Ogbuoji commended those party members who worked assiduously for the party.

He said: “With this, I also commend and doff my hat for those committed members and leaders of our party, APC that worked assiduously to ensure we made it big and good.

“I want to assure you that even with the gang-up, I and the party gave a good account of the outing and made the ruling party understand that Ebonyi people can’t be taken for a ride.

“I therefore call for consolidation and stronger bond in the party, and that none – including the candidates should despair in the face of the development of this rape of democracy.

“Consolidating a new system takes tenacity and resolute steady effort to achieve and our great party should not relent in giving our dear state the opposition and checks we need in order to stop gangster politicians riding roughshod over our future.

“I am aware also of those among us that desired the change we targeted to bring, seemingly worked for it but in the actual sense worked in contrary direction and deliberately frustrated the change they claimed to belong to.”

  • APC thanks Lagosians

LAGOs State All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday thanked Lagosians for voting its flagbearer, Babajide Sanwo-Olu as governor.

The party in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Joe Igbokwe, assured that the incoming governor will not dissapoint them.

The statement reads: The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has expressed its heartfelt appreciation to the good people of Lagos State for massively voting its candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Olufemi Hamzat in the gubernatorial election held last Saturday.  The party said that such long-standing fidelity was responsible for the success of the party in all the elections conducted this year and the huge success story which the APC has become in Nigeria and in Lagos.

“Lagosians know the reliability of the Leadership of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Leader of APC. It says that Lagosians have continued to trust the leadership of Asiwaju Tinubu because he had not disappointed them and such confidence was shown in the comprehensive victory APC scored in Lagos last Saturday.

“We commend Lagosians for receiving well the decent and robust campaign of our candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, which hinged on furthering the development of Lagos and ensuring better life for all Lagosians irrespective of religious, tribal or political affiliation. We know this resonated with the good people of Lagos who responded with their massive votes on the 9th of March to elect him as Governor of Lagos State.

“We note that while our party was focused on showcasing its achievements in Lagos, our rivals concentrated on waking and feeding primordial sentiments in a bid to divide Lagosians on tribal, religious lines. We are happy that Lagosians accepted our message based on our achievements in the past 16 years and through that massive endorsement, expressed their willingness to continue to stick with our party as it continues to deliver the dividends of democracy for the good of all Lagosians.

“Lagos APC notes that our victory is a product of hard work, determination and good service delivery and we promise we will do more to justify this solid and impregnable confidence in the years to come. We want to assure Lagosians that we know that the reward for hard work is more work and we are determined to do more in the next four years.  We assure Lagosians that in the Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat team, we have two potential governors in one team and that will ensure that Lagosians get double ration for their unflinching trust and support to our great party.

“Thank you Lagosians and please continue supporting APC for the good, progress and welfare of all Lagosians”.

  • ‘APC broom has swept Kwara clean of hegemony politics’

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed says with the absolute victory of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Feb. 23 and March 9 general elections in Kwara, the party’s broom has swept the state clean of “hegemony politics”.

The Minister who stated this at a post election news briefing on Monday in Ilorin added that the long battle for the emancipation of Kwara had been attained with the outcome of the polls.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the Kwara APC had a clean sweep of the Presidential poll, as well as elections into the three senatorial and six House of Representative seats held on Feb. 23.

Also, the party defeated the incumbent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Governorship elections and won all the 24 seats in the Kwara State House of Assembly in the elections held on March 9.

The major upset was the defeat of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki of the (PDP) in his stronghold, Kwara Central Senatorial zone by the APC candidate, Dr. Ibrahim Oloriegbe.

Addressing the newsmen, the minister said that with the unprecedented victories, the people could confidently say that “the ‘Berlin Wall’ of Hegemony Politics in Kwara has finally fallen for good”.

“It is a great victory for all the good people of Kwara and we give all gratitude to God for this victory.

“It is beyond our power. Then, of course, we thank most sincerely the good people of Kwara.

“To the long-suffering people of Kwara, this is your victory. You worked hard for it. You made incredible sacrifices, and your efforts paid off.

“You said ‘O To Ge’ (Enough is Enough) and it came to pass. Thank you to all the good people of Kwara.

“Never again will anyone enslave you under the guise of dynasty or hegemony politics. Never Again!!!

The minister thanked the security agencies that provided the conducive atmosphere for the people to exercise their franchise without fear.

He also thanked the leadership of the party at both the state and national levels and expressed special gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for his unflinching support which propelled the party to victory.

“Our victory here transcends Kwara State. It is a victory for all advocates of good governance everywhere. It is the triumph of good over evil, no matter how long it takes.

“It will forever be a reference point in the political history of Nigeria, and a hard blow to those who willfully turn the public treasury into their personal piggy bank,” he said.

The minister said that with the victories, the real work had just begun for the party because the expectations of the people were very high and they could not afford to disappoint them.

“We must ride on the wave of their enthusiasm and determination to deliver to them the dividends of democracy, for which they have been yearning.

“All our leaders, both elected and otherwise, must come together to channel the energy and vibrancy of our people to positive goals,” he said.

Mohammed recalled that the long battle for the emancipation of the state started on Nov. 17 2018, when the
party won the by-election for the Ekiti/Oke-ero/Irepodun/Isin federal constituency.

He urged party members and supporters to be magnanimous in victory, shun vindictiveness or hatred while celebrating.

“There is no room for violence of any kind. We are all Kwarans. The massive victory in Kwara State came on a
    peaceful note.

“We must maintain that and banish all the vestiges of violence from our state.

“It is a new day in Kwara State, and the sun is shining bright and beautiful once again! I thank you all for your kind attention,” he said. (NAN)

  • APC wins 23 state constituencies, PDP 3

The All Progressives Congress has won 22 out of 26 state constituencies in the Saturday’s House of Assembly election in Osun State.

The People’s Democratic Party won in four state constituencies, Ede North, Ede South and Obokun while the election in Oriade state constituency was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Prince Adetoyi Michael Adeyinka of the APC for Odo-Otin State Constituency was declared the winner of the Saturday’s state Assembly election by the INEC.

The retuning Officer, Prof. Mabayoje Aluko declared Prince Adeyinka winner having scored the highest votes of 13,619 to defeat Prince Adewale Egbedun of the PDP, who polled 8,304 votes.

Also, the INEC declared the APC candidate, Hon. Gbenga Ogunkanmi, winner for Ayedire State Constituency.

The returning officer, Prof. Femi Kayode Agboola, a senior lecturer in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife declared Ogunkanmi of the APC Winner with total vote of 10,090 while 4,171.

The returning officer for Ede North state constituency, Prof. Muthalib Aderogba, declared Mr. Babajide Koforola of the PDP winner of the poll for the constituency.

Kofoworola of the PDP polled 12,993 votes to defeat Mr Dauda Akinloye of the APC who scored 12,643 votes.

Meanwhile, the APC in Osun State said the victory of the party in the Saturday’s state assembly poll is a testimony that the people of the state want the good governance to continue.

In a congratulatory message by its spokesperson, Kunle Oyatomi, the party said: “APC victory in Saturday’s House of Assembly election is a clear, emphatic statement of the people in Osun that they want good governance to continue in the state.”

The party expressed joy in producing an overwhelming majority in the state House of Assembly.

Describing its success at the polls as “a clear victory for the people,” the APC said that “what the majority of our people have indicated is that it makes sense to continue with what had been happening in the state since 2010.

“This is more so because the successor of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, (Governor Gboyega Oyetola), was himself at the core of implementation of APC development agenda right from the beginning.

“And Oyetola’s first moves since he took over three months ago as Governor, have been positively symbolic of what to expect.

“So, continuity is secured, further progress is guaranteed and the future promises to be even brighter with such a seamless transfer of power from one to the other administration in the State of Osun.”

The party said that incumbent governor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, stands a better chance of improving on the quality of policy making and implementation.

However, the APC argued that if the PDP had won the elections, the party would have dismantled all the progress made in the state by the Rauf Aregbesola administration.

The party said: “Fortunately, Providence disallowed that to happen but instead answered the prayers and longings of Osun people to continue with the state’s pace-setting content and delivery of progressive governance.

“Therefore it must be said in acknowledgement that it is the people of Osun who have also made it happen with their total support at the polls. That is the reason Saturday’s victory actually belongs to the people themselves.

“We are consequently urging the people of the state to brace up for greater achievements, regardless of their party affiliation, and to unite in contributing their share of responsibility in making Osun one of the best states in Nigeria.” END
