  • Buhari, Osinbajo under divine protection, says APC

All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice Yemi Osinbajo are enjoying divine protective shield from God.

The party added that the divine protection has was responsible for the Osinbajo’s narrow escape from death.

Patron, Buhari Campaign Organisation Mallam Yakub Gobir said this in Afon, Asa local government area of Kwara state at a sensitization rally, adding that the duo and all other candidates of APC would emerge victorious in the forthcoming elections.

Mallam Gobir, APC governorship aspirant in the state said the party is ready to win at the polls

Gobir added that “in terms of previous elections I will say our preparedness is at the highest point it has never been. So we are prepared.”

On the reception accorded his team, the Wazirn Hausa said: “The reception is fantastic. This is not my first time of coming to Asa.

This local government is very important. This is the first local government that results would be announced.

“The second thing is that it is a very rural local government in Kwara central and there are great distances between polling units.

“People had to travel between seven and eight kilometers to get to their polling units. From previous elections, historically Asa local government is where a lot of rigging and electoral malpractices take place, because it is remote and hard to reach.

“People are able to do a lot of manipulation. That is why in our preparedness to end campaigns for the forthcoming elections, I have chosen that the council is a key area. The people you are seeing here today will make Victory happen in this month’s election. We will deliver victory to President Buhari beyond his expectations and also for all other APC candidates.

“I therefore plead with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agents to pay special attention to INEC.

“INEC in the state to let the elections to be free and fair. People’s will should be allowed to prevail.”

Also APC Kwara central senatorial chair Abdullateef Alakawa said that APC has become a movement in the state.

“It is very obvious that APC is very well prepared to win the elections in the state. APC is not just a political party in Kwara central, it has become a movement.

“That is why there is serious mobilisation of our people. Our people are enthusiastic and very much at alert for the monumental transformation that will happen in the state.

Our people are ready to effect a change from a situation of stagnation to progress. They are ready to do that through a democratic process.

“This local government is an integral part of Kwara central. Come February 16 that readiness of our people will manifest for the epoch making event of changing government and reaffirming their support, belief and confidence in the party and its leadership at the national level and in bringing a true government of change to our state.

  • APC seeks postponement of Rivers gov election

The All Progressives Congress ( APC ) in Rivers state has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to conduct the election in the state saying doing so will be handing the state to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate on a platter of gold.

Reacting to a statement credited to INEC that the APC is not yet on the ballot, the party’s Director of Strategic Communications for the Tonye Cole Campaign, Prince Tonye T.J.T Princewill said in a statement made available to The Nation in Abuja that conducting the election without the APC will be an exercise in futility.

He said “Of course we are not yet on the ballot, it’s a process. INEC by now has received the first order and in another day or so, will receive the second one. Then their lawyers will advise them and at a meeting of the powers that be, a decision will be taken. That decision will be to obey the law. We expect nothing less. If they don’t, then it will be lawful to be lawless in a lawless society. There will be no elections in Rivers state.

“We knew Wike had penetrated the judiciary, every day the signs are revealed. We know he has also penetrated some of our security agencies, but we do not want to believe he has penetrated our electoral body at the highest levels. We are soon about to find out. Let us be patient. These things take time. Our money, that he is using, will be traced to its last hiding place when he leaves office. We know a lot about who he is working with. Money leaves a trace. And in this government, corruption will always come with consequences.”

While describing the PDP as an “accident waiting to happen” he advised all those with good conscience still sitting inside it, to jump for safety before the inevitable crash or hold themselves to blame.

He said “Wike is a learner driver. He has no business driving the vehicle of Rivers state and everyone knows it. Even he knows it. He can use money to win awards, ascribe bogus titles to himself, get biased media coverage, even delay justice, but he can’t use our money to bribe God. Judgement is coming for him and it is coming soon.”

Tonye said further that while being on the ballot was necessary, allowing the APC candidates time to go about their campaigns, as had been denied them; was only fair because their campaigns were gaining momentum before legal gymnastics stepped in.

He said the “PDP should be very ashamed that after four good years, their candidate could not go from ward to ward to tell them what he has done. Instead he has stumbled from LGA to LGA headquarters with more people in his entourage than indigenes to receive him, only to drop sound bites and share two-two thousand Naira to willing takers.

$His mate (even though we are yet to ascertain Nyesom Wike’s actual age), his mate and our candidate Tonye Cole, has gone from ward to ward in every LGA and had done 236 wards out of 319 before a judge, Magnus and Wike stopped him using the law. Magnus is not our focus. He is our lost brother whom we wish well. His room is there, if he returns. Our focus is Wike and nothing will distract us from demystifying his perceived grassroots’ appeal, his supposed strong man status and his recent Mungo Park like discovery of Spirituality.

“Tonye Cole and others must be allowed to finish their campaigns. Anything short of that cannot be just and we will contest it. INEC should get ready for the Presidential elections, but State House of Assembly, National Assembly and the Governorship elections must be a separate exercise set aside for a special date.

“All eyes are now on INEC as the fate of Rivers state now hangs in their balance. Will Wike be given a free ride back into Government house or will the never say die attitude of Tonye Cole emerge from the ashes of court judgements? Very soon, all will be revealed.

  • APC administration fair to all governors – Badaru

Gov. Muhammad Badaru of Jigawa, says the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari is fair to all the Governors, irrespective of their party in the country.

Badaru stated this when he received the Chairman, Contact and Mobilisation Committee of APC, North West zone, retired Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Magoro and his team in his office in Dutse.

He said that when the APC administration under President Buhari came into power, most of the state governors were unable to pay salaries, but he gave them bailout to pay workers.

“Buhari did that without showing party differences, whether you are APC, PDP, or APGA and so on, we were all given the bailout, I, therefore don’t think there is any fair person more than this man who wishes the country well.

“Buhari did not just stopped at that, he has been giving some governors money, who said that they don’t have sufficient funds for doing some critical projects in their states.

“Some governors that inherited uncompleted projects from their predecessors, irrespective of their party leanings, the President gave them money to complete such projects.

“The argument by Buhari is that the projects are people oriented and therefore they cannot be abandoned,”Badaru said.

The governor assured the team that the people of Jigawa will give their vote enmasse to APC from top to bottom to enable them continue reaping the fruits of his administration.

Earlier, the Chairman of Contact and Mobilisation Committee, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Magoro retired said that they are in Jigawa to thank the people for their support for APC.

Magoro explained that they were also in the state to interact with the electorate at the grassroots to sensitise and mobilise them to turn out en masse and vote for President Muhammadu Buhari for second term.

He said that the APC candidate is the only leader that cares for them.

The chairman was accompanied on the tour by Representatives of APC and stalwarts from Kaduna, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Zamfara and Jigawa states that made up the North West Geo-Political Zone.

  • APC has failed Yobe, Borno people, says Atiku

PEOPLE’S Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has said the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) has failed the people of Yobe and Borno states.

Atiku, who stated this yesterday during the PDP presidential rally in the two states, listed security, job creation, health, education and other social amenities as key  areas in which the APC failed the two states.

Addressing the crowd at the rally, Atiku said: “People of Yobe, over three years ago, you voted for APC; please I want to ask you all, what has APC done for you?

“APC promised security. Is there security now? APC promised to create jobs. Are there jobs now? APC also promised to revive the economy. Is the economy better now?

“Today, you are poorer, there is hunger everywhere, and insecurity everywhere. People of Yobe State, what I want to tell you is that, these people have destroyed everything. Don’t let them take us backward; don’t vote for APC. This is not a party. They will not create wealth.”

Atiku restated his promise to reserve 70 per cent of appointments for women and youth population, if elected President.

Appealing to sentiments, Atiku reminded the gathering that it’s the first time one of their own from the Northeast geopolitical zone would be vying for the Presidency and urged them not to allow the opportunity slip off their hands.

He said: “The entire people of Nigeria said this time around they want the President to come from the Northeast. Do you all agree? Will you all vote PDP?

“If you vote PDP, I want to promise you all, that we will bring about lasting peace to the Northeast and the entire Nigeria. All those who know me know that I don’t lie and am not afraid. We will return peace and after that, I promise every one of you, you will return back to your local governments.

“Also, there will be jobs for the youth, schools will be open, hospitals will treat the sick and the poverty that is disturbing us will be stopped.

“Initially, they said the Northeast is the centre of poverty in Nigeria. We will put an end to that poverty. We shall create wealth, businesses will grow, there will be peace everywhere.”

He told the electorate in Yobe and Borno not to allow anyone steal their votes on election day, as he urged them to wait for their votes to be counted and results announced before departing their polling centres.

  • ‘No room for APC in Kwara South’

A group, the ‘Kwara South G70,’ has said it will give 70,000 votes to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the elections.

The group directed its members, numbering about 700, to garner 10,000 votes from each of the seven local government areas of Kwara South Senatorial District.

The Coordinator, Kwara South G70, Salahudeen Lukman, spoke in Ajase-Ipo, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, during the inauguration of G70 neighbour-to-neighbour campaign volunteers.

Lukman said the team was specifically set up to mobilise support for the re-election of Senator Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim, who he said, had surpassed the achievements of his predecessors in Kwara South.

He said the group had taken stock of the representation of the legislator in the upper chamber of the National Assembly with a verdict that failure to return him in the February 16, 2019 election may retard the progress already recorded.

Lukman said young people deemed it fit to canvass votes for Dr. Ibrahim, because his representation had changed the political narrative of the area.

He appealed to the people of Kwara South not to be swayed by what he described as the “campaign of calumny” of the opposition, saying the incumbent senator deserved re-election with his track record of performance.

He said Senator Ibrahim, who chairs the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, sponsored some bills on the floor of the Senate, one of which attracted national honour and made Nigeria a ranking nation in the enabling business environment.

Lukman pointed out that the legislator had also facilitated projects to the seven local government areas of Kwara South, adding he had since endeared himself into the warmth embrace of the people.

He said: “As an independent youth platform, who is more concerned about the betterment of Kwara, we assembled here to kick start our neighbor-to-neighbour campaign for Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, who is a serving senator of Kwara South, and he is contesting again for the second term.

“This is a decision we unanimously took independently for obvious reasons, which are not far-fetched. For almost 20 years that democracy has returned to Nigeria, Kwara South has equally elected representatives to the National Assembly. But the one we elected in 2015, he is one of the best we have ever had.

“For the fact that we are also a living witness to what has happened in the past and what has happened recently, we also foresee what good could happen in the future, that is why we decided to join Let’s Do More Together Team.

Lukman added: “We are inaugurating this neighbor-to-neighbour campaign to go to households, every neighbour, to let them know what Senator Rafiu Ibrahim has achieved in three and a half years at the upper chamber. For the fact that we have witnessed two or three people already in the chamber before now, who have no impact, we see reason why we must strive to ensure that for the progress of Kwara State and Kwara South in particular to continue steadily the way it has started, Senator Rafiu Ibrahim must be re-elected.

“That is why we the young people of Kwara South have taken it upon ourselves. Let us go out there to sensitise our people. They should not be blindfolded by the campaign of calumny that is going round.”

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to precipitate controversy on the standard bearer of the PDP for Kwara South Senatorial District

  • APC Cross River and INEC’s pick

It must be a hard time to be the chairman of the National Electoral Commission, especially now, a few days to the first round of polls. Most recently, when many thought the saga of the Rivers State All Progressives Congress had reached the end of the tether, the court came with a twist.

But it is not clear sometimes how the electoral umpire decides what court judgment to uphold if it only contradicts another court of coordinate jurisdiction. A case in point is the APC conundrum in Cross River State, which has somehow found itself outside the radar of national discussion, but it is brewing in the innards of the party in the Niger Delta state.

Cross River was one of the APC states embroiled in parallel primaries last year, and the battle swung from the ballot to the court rooms. It was an intense fight between two APC bigwigs in Cross River State. They are Pastor Usani Usani, the Niger Delta affairs minister, versus Senator Owan-Enoh.

As was the case in Rivers and a few other states, each of the kingpins in the primaries won their own primaries. It seemed like impunity on a tangent, each big man pulled off his own impunity and each claimed to be the real candidate for governorship polls come March 2.

But we cannot have two candidates and the only way to resolve it was in the court of law. Again the matter had to go to court. But it must be borne in mind that the national office of the party in Abuja, just as in Ogun State or Rivers, had their own favourite son. Just as Tonye Cole was the son after the heart of the APC in the centre, so Senator Owan-Enoh captured the imagination of its Abuja headquarters.

With this in mind, each of them fought the battle before the bench, and each secured a verdict in their favour. So, the minister and senator thought they were on track to launch onslaughts on the incumbent governor. But as it is the party is divided, but the INEC has now decided to pick a candidate.

This is one of the inconsistencies in the candidature of this dispensation. Why would INEC pick Own-Enoh when two courts of equal powers say each of them is qualified? The INEC boss, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, had lamented the contradiction of verdicts from courts of coordinate jurisdiction. And Cross River is one of them. Maybe that accounted for the court ruling that forbade INEC to release the list of candidates. INEC listed Enoh as the Cross River State gubernatorial pointsman.

It would give impression of preferential treatment when it did not do so for Zamfara and Rivers States. It is a crisis of the rule of law that INEC must address for fairness.

  • APC, PDP at war over shut out of Ekere from peace accord

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom state are trading blames over the shut out of Obong Nsima Ekere from the signing of peace accord on Wednesday.

The APC accused the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of conniving to prevent Ekere from accessing venue of the ceremony.

Its state chairman, Mr. Ini Okopido, alleged its governorship candidate, Obong Nsima Ekere was prevented from accessing and participating in the peace accord event by INEC officials and security details to Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Okopido, in a statement, said: “On arrival at the entrance of the venue, Obong Ekere was stopped from entering the hall by the protocol and security officials and thugs of the Governor Udom Emmanuel, who had arrived earlier.

“Obong Ekere’s entreaties to be let in to participate in the ceremony, including his explanations that he first had to attend a previously scheduled prayer summit for peaceful elections at the Methodist Church, Itiam Etoi, Uyo, were turned down by the government officials. Our candidate had to turn back.”

He added: “I was present inside the hall and I saw clearly that the whole ceremony was turned into a state government event. The Master of Ceremony was Mr. Raphael Edem, the governor’s special assistant on Public Affairs, and yet this was supposed to be an INEC event for all Governorship Candidates.

“The entrance was manned by the government’s protocol and security officials.

“It must be emphasized that Mr. Udom Emmanuel attended the event as a governorship candidate of the PDP and not as Governor.

“We, therefore, do not understand why government officials and thugs were allowed, if not encouraged, by INEC to harass another candidate.

“This incident is most unfortunate and demonstrates once again our position that INEC in Akwa Ibom State should show impartiality to all candidates and maintain neutrality in its conduct”.

But the PDP publicity secretary, Comrade Iniobong Ememobong, accused Ekere of breaking official protocol by sauntering in hours after the governor was already seated.

“Today, at the signing of the Peace Accord organized by INEC,

Ekere exhibited his consistent, habitual and unrepentant show of rascality by coming hours after the event had started and sought to stroll across the main aisle of the venue.

“Of course by all protocol standards, he was advised to enter from the front door but use the middle aisle to his seat which was at the other end of the hall.

“He resisted and insisted on swaggering pass the front. Protocol officers of INEC offered to take him to his seat but he left boasting that Igini must be removed.

“Long before his arrival, his state chairman Ini Okopido had arrived and was seated on his designated seat. The INEC REC asked about the whereabouts of his candidate, to which he replied that he (Nsima) was coming, that he had other engagements.

“All responsible Akwa Ibom Stakeholders including Obong Victor Attah attended the event in good time and participated effectively but APC and their candidate Nsima Ekere can never conform to normal etiquette.”

  • Alleged bribe to enter U.S.: APC urges Atiku to clear himself

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar to come clean and explain to Nigerians circumstances surrounding his recent trip to the United States (U.S.).

Media reports quoting Reuters news agency claimed that the former vice president paid heavy bribe to secure a temporary waiver of his alleged travel ban as a result of alleged corruption charges.

In a statement signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa Onilu, the party also accused the PDP and its presidential candidate of elevating falsehood and crying wolf in an attempt to discredit the forthcoming general election, even before it is conducted.

Onilu said the PDP’s action was a clear sign of accepting defeat, adding that the party should be aware that the country’s registered political parties have equal stake in the election and should stop making it look as if the election was being skewed against it.

He said: “Again, in the wake of the recent Reuters report that Atiku visited the U.S. two weeks ago, thanks to heavily paid lobbyists, who aided the temporary suspension of a travel ban linked to decade-old bribery scandals and corruption indictments, we urge Atiku to come clean to Nigerians on his problems. This is the least he owes an electorate he wishes to lead.”

The state reads: “As the 2019 general elections fast approaches, the APC has watched with consternation how the PDP in the last couple of weeks has elevated falsehood and crying wolf into an ignoble art.

“Nigerians have also watched in disbelief how the PDP without proof has consistently and vehemently pilloried state institutions performing various roles in the coming general elections.

“From security agencies to our election management body, the PDP has spared none in its barefaced lies. On a daily basis, the PDP has invented one lie after the other to discredit state institutions in the eyes of Nigerians and the international community. PDP’s ignoble actions are unhealthy for our electoral processes and a threat to our maturing democracy.

“The PDP’s game plan is simple: discredit the entire process before, during, and after the elections in order to make the final outcome a ‘nullity’ in its own jaundiced eyes.

“The PDP must understand that all registered political parties are equal stakeholders in the coming elections; hence the PDP’s tired narrative that the entire election process is skewed against it should be seen for what it is – PDP’s admittance of defeat.

“The era of sham elections are behind us. The records of credible elections conducted since the APC took over the country’s governance are public knowledge compared to selections, impositions and fraudulent elections under the PDP.

“We will continue in our progressive tradition of ensuring that elections are free, peaceful credible and every vote counts — The wishes of the electorate must prevail in all elections.

“Against this backdrop, we urge INEC and other state institutions responsible for different election duties to remain firm and focused in the discharge of their legitimate roles. They must not be stampeded into taking actions that run contrary to the constitution and the Electoral Act.

“Our free advice to the PDP is that it concentrates its energy to resuscitate its floundering campaign, which has seen majority of its governors tacitly and openly avoid supporting the presidential bid of the PDP candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.”

  • No plans to step down for Buhari, Atiku – Olawepo-Hashim

The Presidential candidate of People’s Trust (PT), Mr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has declared he has no plans to step down for either President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) or Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).

Olawepo-Hashim expressed confidence the two candidates are beatable with their parties’ woeful performances since 1999.

He lamented 70 percent of voters are undecided on their choice less than 11 days to the presidential poll.

He called on Nigerians to support his candidacy for rapid economic development that will lift masses out of abject poverty.

According to a statement through his media team by Hassan Ibrahim, the Presidential hopeful who spoke during campaign in Akure, the Ondo state capital advised the electorates to reject the two political parties that had failed them in the last twenty years.

Olawepo-Hashim, who was accompanied by his Campaign Director-General and former transport minister, Mr Habu Fari, said the country was too endowed with natural resources for the citizenry to be wallowing in poverty.

He vowed to introduce policies that would end insecurity and economic hardship if elected the president of the nation on the sixteenth of this month.

He advised eligible voters to secure their future by voting for the party in the 2019 elections.

Olawepo-Hashim assured Nigerians, especially youths and graduates he would create jobs and make the environment conducive for businesses to flourish.

The presidential candidate of PT said his party was fine-tuning its strategy in all states of the federation on how to wrestle power from the ruling APC, adding that PT had the highest number of representation in constituency nominations.

According to him: “Some few days to election more than 70 percent of the electorates are still wondering who they are going to vote for.

“They have examined the candidates they are going to vote for and what these candidates promised to offer and among all the alternative parties, the PT is the biggest.

“But I can tell you that this election is still very open even though its ten days to the election.

“This is one of the reasons I said if elected we will form a government of National unity which will include the good people in the APC and PDP.”

Denying he was planning to step down, Olawepo-Hashim said: “Nigeria is a very interesting country, and I don’t know any country where other candidates are pressured to step down.

“I think it is a coinage here because in a multi- party democracy, nobody steps down, you win some seats and on the basis of this you can form coalition based on programme after the election.

“The presidential election is not about party but about candidates and the future of the country and the two parties have failed in that regard. But we give hope that if we come in, Nigeria will be better”.

Fari expressed delight the people of Ondo state trooped out to receive Olawepo-Hashim, indicating that the people are ready to elect the third force which the PT candidate represented.
