  • K1 did not abuse Ambode, says Publicist

The Publicist of Fuji maestro Wasiu Ayinde, Kunle Raheed, has denied the musician abused Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode during the rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Skypower Grounds, Ikeja Government Reservation Area (GRA) last Tuesday.

Rasheed said the track people were referring to has nothing to do with Ambode.

“If you check the new album he made for (Babajide) Sanwo-Owu, that track is there. He even sang the track long before the crisis started. The track is all about APC and the party’s governorship candidate,” he said.

On why K1 continued singing while Ambode was making his speech, Rasheed described it as normal practice.

“If you are at the APC Convention in Abuja, the instruction was that as soon as someone is introduced, K1 will sing.

“Same thing happened at the Skypower Grounds. K1 started singing when Governor Ambode handed the party’s flag to Sanwo-Olu and that has nothing to do with the crisis,” he said.

According to him, the crisis was purely union matter between Azeez Lawal (a.k.a Kunle Poly) and Adekunle Mustapha (Sego).

He said: “Both of them had issues on K1’s stage and K1 waded into the matter. At a point, Mustapha left the stage. Not quite long. MC Oluomo (Musiliu Akinsanya, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) State Treasurer) came on stage and exchanged greetings with K1, NURTW State Chairman, Tajudeen Agbede.

“As at that time, the boys of Sego and Kunle Poly had started fighting on the ground. So, it was not safe for MC Oluomo to leave the stage until one of Kunle Poly’s boys came on stage and threatened to kill MC Oluomo with a dagger.

“Agbede slapped him three times and chased him away. K1 also joined him to chase away from the stage.

“He later returned to the stage and stabbed MC Oluomo and one Abija. That was how it happened.”

According to him, if not for K1, the crisis would have been bigger as he was repeatedly talking to both warring parties to douse the tension.

“I was on the stage with them. I was there all through. K1 tried his best to resolve the crisis between the NURTW leaders over the State Chairmanship tussle even before that rally.

“People should stop accusing K1 of not doing enough to resolve their crisis. Also, he didn’t abuse or insulted Governor Ambode as some are peddling,” he said.

  • My ambition not worth blood of Ogun people –Dapo Abiodun

Mr Dapo Abiodun, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday said that his ambition was not worth the blood of anyone in Ogun.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta by his spokesperson, Remmy Hazzan, the APC candidate said that he was in the race to win and serve.

“I would not want anyone to be killed or maimed for supporting me and my party.

“I have left the comfort of my highly successful local and international businesses to serve my dear Ogun people.

“I am confident of my local and global goodwill, connections and networks that can be put at the service of Ogun workers and people, indigenes and residents.

“I don’t want my people to be killed, injured or maimed, I don’t want to govern over families that have lost breadwinners or are physically challenged as a result of political violence,’’ he said.

Abiodun, quoting the United Nations Universal Declaration on Human Rights (UDHR) of 1948, said “the will of the people shall be the basis of government, and this will be expressed through a democratic election that is free, fair and credible.’’

“I, therefore, call on candidates of all political parties to play by the rules. In the first place, we are all brothers and sisters. Violence is not the way to go.

“Our campaign has been issues-based and non-violent. That was the assurance we gave from the onset, that is the pledge we will keep to despite the unwarranted smear campaign from certain quarters,’’ he added.

The APC candidate, however, urged members of the public to protect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC).

“Keep your PVC to use, as your conscience desires a better Ogun State under a governor who will listen and who will be friendly to workers, farmers, students and all segments of the society.

“Those who have not collected their PVC should do so and timely too.

“ Those who want to buy your PVC are simply telling you that they don’t trust you to vote for them.

“They want to debar your rights to vote. Please don’t sell your rights,’’ Abiodun said.

  • Why CJN must face trial, by APC

The All Progressives Congress ( APC ) on Monday asked Nigerians to caution the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over what it called virulent attacks on the party and institutions of government saying Nigeria was bigger than any political party or any political interest.

Speaking at a news conference in Abuja, National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu also faulted the decision of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnenghen  not to appear before the Code of Conduct Tribunal to answer charges false asset declaration preferred against saying the decision could have been based on the suggestions of PDP Governors from the south south.

He said while the APC will not be drawn in debating the legality or sponsored conspiracies of the CCT trial, the party believe that it was an opportunity for the Chief Justice to exonerate himself and prove his innocence in the matter, adding that the issue concerning the CJN should be allowed to follow the due process of law.

He said the APC believe and insist that our democratic and constitutional institutions must be allowed to operate without interference and undue pressure from partisan and sundry interests as being done by the PDP and its cronies.

According to him, PDP’s attempt to hoodwink Nigerians into believing that there is a political motive behind the allegation brought against the CJN might itself be indicative of some unholy alliances between the party and the judiciary.

He said: “Following the notice of the charges preferred against the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, by the Code of Conduct Bureau at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been on overdrive vituperating over an issue that should at best be left to the judiciary to resolve.

“While we would not want to be lured into discussing issues that are presently before the courts and for which any respectable political party hoping to hold positions of responsibility should restrain itself, we regret to suggest that the PDP’s attempt to hoodwink Nigerians into believing that there is a political motive behind the allegation brought against the CJN might itself be indicative of some unholy alliances.

“The likely affinity existing between the PDP and a section of the judiciary is further accentuated by the nonappearance of Justice Onnoghen before the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Monday in line with the suggestions made by the PDP governors from the South South on Sunday.

“Are Nigerians expected to see this as a mere coincidence? Is the PDP and their governors acting a script? Haven’t we missed an opportunity to show confidence in an institution headed by the CJN?

“This becomes more worrisome knowing that the PDP’s campaigns have been receiving a cold shoulder everywhere they have gone to and it has become apparent the party and its Presidential candidate are facing imminent defeat in the February 2019 elections and may be searching for some unorthodox means of forcing itself on the Nigerian people.

“If this were not so, the PDP should, before coming to these distracting conclusions, have taken cognisance of the facts of the allegations made against the CJN and his admission to the facts so stated.

“The only logical conclusion in the circumstance is that realising the refusal of Nigerians to allow the deception of the PDP con them into returning the party to power, the opposition party has alongside some pliable human rights activists devised a plot to distract the APC and indeed the good people of Nigeria from addressing the very important issues on the APC’s manifesto in the electioneering process.

“We have also noticed the very dangerous attempt to designate the CJN’s arraignment along ethnic and religious lines thereby trying to heat up the polity by evoking primordial sentiment which would do the country no good. This is an ungodly ploy when we consider that the CJN is an officer of the federation rather than that of any region.

“We, therefore, urge all Nigerians of good conscience to caution the PDP as the country is bigger than any political party or the interest it represents, and nothing should stop the country’s steady march into sustainable democratic governance.

“In our earlier statement on the CJN’s CCT trial, we had noted the PDP’s shocking and innate proclivity to defend cases of corruption anytime it arises. The call by the PDP’s South South Governors for the CJN’s boycott of the CCT trial further cements our position. Let it be reiterated that nobody no matter how highly placed should be above the laws of the land.

“We wish to put on record that the virulent attack that has come from the PDP in the wake of the trial of the CJN over alleged false asset declaration is particularly worrisome and suspicious when the PDP has in fact called for the removal of virtually all heads of government’s arms, particularly the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Inspector General of the Police over frivolous issues.

“While we will not be drawn into debates on the legality and sponsored conspiracies of the CCT trial, we insist that our democratic and constitutional institutions must be allowed to operate without interference and undue pressure from partisan and sundry interests as being done by the PDP and its cronies.

“The CCT trial is a legal matter, let the law run its course. The CJN must go through the instrumentalities of the courts, more importantly as an institution he represents. Indeed, this is the true test of our constitution, rule of law and will deepen democracy.

“Where there are contestations on institutional procedures, we must allow same institutions perform their functions unhindered, autocorrect if necessary and set good precedence on future matters. This is the only way we can build strong and lasting institutions.”

  • APC desperate to remove CJN over polls, PDP alleges

The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organization (PPCO) has accused President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of being desperate to illegally remove the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen ahead of the 2019 elections.

In a statement Monday by the spokesman for the PDP campaign organisation, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party said it’s despicable that rather than retracing their steps, the President and the APC were attempting to blackmail Nigerians who have raised a voice against the arraignment of the CJN before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

The statement said, “The Buhari Presidency and APC in turning around to fight Nigerians have further exposed their desperation to replace Justice Onnoghen with a pliable CJN, who will execute their plots to use the courts to detain opposition leaders as well as vocal members of the Civil Society during the elections.

“It is now crystal clear to all Nigerians that apart from failing woefully in all its promises, the APC and its presidential candidate, President Buhari, are beginning to manifest their autocratic attributes.

“Furthermore, the Buhari Presidency is not only corrupt but has become an asylum for corrupt people. The PPCO therefore challenges the APC and the Buhari Presidency to name one APC member that has been investigated, prosecuted or arraigned before any court of competent jurisdiction in the last three and half years in spite of their humongous corruption.

“If for anything, President Muhammadu Buhari has encouraged corruption in our nation more than any President that had the privilege of governing our country, Nigeria.

“It is important to restate that the Buhari Presidency is now a refugee camp for known and well advertised faces of corruption. From the factional National Chairman of the APC, the co-chairman of the Buhari campaign Organization, the Director General of the Buhari Campaign, the zonal directors and the recent entrants from Bauchi and Gombe states, all leaders of the APC and Buhari campaign structure are all candidates of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“We therefore charge Nigerians not to be deterred by the attacks by the Buhari Presidency, which has since become desperate and anti-people following its rejection by Nigerians because of its corruption, incompetence and insensitivity to the plights of our citizens”.

  • APC must not win your unit, Akpodoro warns

The Zonal Coordinator of Southsouth, Youth and Support Groups for Atiku Abubakar, Eshanekpe Israel (aka Akpodoro), Thursday) warned Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faithful against not to allow candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) win their polling units.

He spoke in Delta State at the Ughelli Stadium during the campaign rally of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

Akpodoro, also national coordinator of Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-Agitators (NCNDE-A), said he was at the stadium to honour the governor who is “a pro-masses governor”.

He noted that Okowa had no rival, and called on “political traders” to surrender their opposition to the “people’s governor.

The coodinator lamented that some politicians feast on the misfortunes of others, saying they rolled out campaign tanks every four years to deceive people and cause ethnic divisions for personal gains.

Akpodoro lauded the governor for giving the state a face-lift, stressing the people never had it so good.

Founder of Urhobo Youth Forum for Change (UYFC), the ex-agitator assured Okowa of Urhobo block vote.

He noted that Okowa was loyalty personified during the administrations of Urhobo sons, saying “one good turn deserves another, and for that reason, and many others, he should be  supported by the Urhobo”.

The youth leader promised his team would campaign for Okowa, and ensure his victory.

“I’m leaving the stadium for Abraka where a crowd of youth is waiting for me still on the issue of how to demystify the much-boasted federal might of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Federal Government.

“No APC candidate in the elections shall win his polling unit because we are on ground to ensure total failure for those who see themselves as political heavyweights. We shall ridicule them and ensure Governor Okowa sends them to their early retirement from politics.”

Lawmaker representing Sapele, Okpe/Uwvie in the House of Representatives Evelyn Oboro visited Akpodoro shortly after he left the stadium.

Oboro, who is the PDP’s senatorial candidate for Delta Central, discussed issues of human and material development with the coordinator.

It was also gathered that the APC thugs spread the violence to Ajikobi and Omoda areas of Ilorin metropolis.

  • Oil sector: Saraki bandishing false figures – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has urged Nigerians to ignore Senate President Bukola Saraki’s  fairy tales over fuel consumption.

Itnoted that Saraki has resorted to campaign of calumny directed at the person of President Muhammadu Buhari ahead of the looming defeat of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) at the presidential poll and imminent collapse of Saraki’s empire in Kwara.

Its spokesman, Festus Keyamo (SAN), recalled that Saraki claimed in a television interview few days ago that Nigeria’s petroleum consumption is about 20-22 million litres per day and that import level of 50 million litres is a scam and fraudulent. Keyamo said Saraki’s statement  was a demonstration of hallucination of figures hence he has resorted to poorly choreographed and worn-out political brinkmanship fuelled by absence of any credible agenda to present to Nigerians.

“The same Dr. Bukola Saraki was in the 7th Senate and knows very well that in 2014 and part of 2015, the PDP Government that was in power reported daily PMS consumption of 35-40 million litres per day to Nigerians.

“Strangely, years later, the PDP Campaign DG is peddling a phantom fuel consumption figure of 20-22 million litres per day.

“The PDP chief campaigner discountenanced the obvious fact that within the last three years of the current administration, the Nigerian economy that PDP left in comatose has been jump-started to vibrancy leading to remarkable changes in energy consumption needs and patterns.

“The allegation that the national oil company prevailed on Mr. President not to seek appropriation for subsidy and to rather treat it as cost under-recovery is not only laughable and mischievous, but it is a blatant lie.

“Verifiable records indicate that NNPC has never claimed subsidy payment from any government in its history of operation.

“All NNPC’s transactions in this regard have been treated as product costs under-recovery.

“The Corporation, like any other business entity, does its business and recovers its cost from its revenues.

“It is instructive to note that in his rush to indict the NNPC and the President, willy-nilly, Dr. Bukola Saraki forgot that a Senate Committee was set up by him to investigate the intervention of NNPC in PMS imports.

“The mandate of the Committee includes volumes, costs and any associated under-recoveries.

“The big question remains; why would he not wait for the outcome of the Committee he set up to investigate the matter?

“Is it because he believes the outcome of his Committee will not satisfy his predetermined mindset?

“Nigerians should therefore ignore the tantrums of Dr. Bukola Saraki as they concern the oil and gas sector.”
