    Kaduna APC hails INEC, Sani

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State has described its sweeping victories in the weekend’s by-elections as a “resounding testament” to the people’s trust in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Uba Sani’s inclusive governance.

The party congratulated  Fidelix Joseph Bagudu, winner of the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency seat;  Isa Haruna Muhammed, Zaria Kewaye State Constituency; and  Dahiru Umar-Sani, Basawa State Constituency, for what it called historic and symbolic triumphs.

Kaduna APC Secretary, Yahaya Baba Pate, in a statement, said the victories were not mere electoral wins but clear endorsements of the progressive ideals of the ruling party at both federal and state levels.

According to him, the breakthrough in Chikun/Kajuru, a constituency long regarded as a fortress of the opposition, underscores the transformative leadership of Governor Uba Sani and the people’s growing confidence in his bridge-building style.

“Governor Uba Sani’s tenure has been marked by strides in security, rural infrastructure, and human capital development. His inclusive and detribalised approach has brought historically marginalised voices to the centre of governance,” Pate said.

He assured the electorate that the newly elected lawmakers would honour the people’s trust with responsive, transparent and purposeful representation, while serving as ambassadors of their constituencies and the shared aspirations of Kaduna residents.

    NNPP, APC vow court action

Both the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State have rejected the results in the Saturday bye-election in the state.

While the NNPP rejected results of Ghari/Tsanyawa in which APC won, the latter has rejected the outcome of the Bagwai/Shanono State Assembly won by the NNPP in Kano.

NNPP State Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, who addressed a press conference in Kano on Sunday, said the party will challenge the legitimacy of the result in court.

Dungurawa argued that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the result at its Headquarters in Kano, instead of the collation centre at the constituency.

He also faulted the electoral body for cancelling the entirely 10 polling units that the Appeal court had nullified and ordered for a fresh election.

“While applauding the voters of the respective constituencies, the party wishes to inform the general public that the manipulations orchestrated against the candidate in Tsanyawa/Ghari, re-run election cannot be condoned.

“This is unacceptable and a complete denying electorates their rights to vote, after they came out massively and cast their votes largely to the NNPP Candidate.

“In Ghari Local Government, the election was conducted peacefully at the ten polling units, but some unpatriotic politicians connived with INEC Officials to force the declaration of the APC candidate as the winner.

APC, PDP call for cancellation of Kano by-elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have asked the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to cancel the by-election for Bagwai/Shanono Constituency and the rerun for Ghari/Tsanyawa Constituency in Kano State held on Saturday.

The APC and PDP, who are the strongest opposition parties in the state, in separate statements, gave “widespread violence and disruption of the process” as reasons the polls should be canceled.

Kano Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, on Saturday confirmed the arrest of 288 thugs with dangerous weapons for various electoral offenses, including violence.

APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the elections were marred by “extreme violence and disruption by armed thugs across several polling units” in the affected areas.

“Verifiable reports from Shanono and Bagwai Local Government Areas and Ghari constituency have voters fleeing polling areas, with deployed security personnel overwhelmed by the violence, making the prospects of a credible election impossible,” he said.

Kano PDP Chairman, Yusuf Ado Kibiya, said the umbrella party was alarmed by reports of intimidation, thuggery and other actions that undermine the democratic process.

“The use of violence or threat of violence to influence voters and candidates, and the outcome of the election are unacceptable and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

“Such conducts, not only endangers lives, but destroys public trust in our democratic institutions.

“Let it be known that a free and fair election is the foundation of representative democracy. We urge all authorities to act decisively to safeguard that principle and to ensure the will of the people is reflected, without fear or favour,” Kibiya said.

The APC argued that allowing the exercise to continue would amount to endorsing electoral violence and undermining the integrity of the democratic process.

“Proceeding with the Shanono/Bagwai Kano State Constituency bye-election and Ghari rerun election in the atmosphere of utter brigandage and outright violent voter intimidation will be against democratic dictates of free, fair and peaceful election, and set a dangerous precedent for undesirable and unacceptable electoral heist,” Morka said stated.

He urged the electoral body to “immediately cancel” the bye-election and rerun “to protect the sanctity of the ballot” and safeguard the country’s democracy.

In his statement, Kibiya said: “We, the PDP in Kano State, express deep concern over the conduct surrounding the bye-election for the Shanono/Bagwai State Assembly Seat.

“The death of the former representative last year has already placed a heavy burden on our constituents, who deserve a transparent, peaceful, and credible process.

“We reject the behavior observed from some quarters, which we believe is aimed at bending the electoral process to the advantage of particular interests.

“We call on the Independence National Electoral Commission to ensure a level playing field for all 10 party candidates, including the PDP, with strict enforcement of the electoral rules and timely provision of necessary materials and security for voters.

“Law Enforcement and Security Agencies should uphold the right to peaceful assembly, protect voters, and decisively deter any form of intimidation, violence, or vote- buying.

“The Kano State Government and national leaders should refrain from inflammatory statements and actions that escalate tensions and to demonstrate commitment to a transparent, credible and peaceful electoral process.

“The authorities should investigate reported violation of electoral laws and sanction offenders in accordance with the law.

“Civil society, media and election observers should continue to monitor the process, report anomalies, and provide independent assessments to reinforce accountability.”

Halliday said the commission only collected the list from the Chief Beke APC for record purposes.

“We know that we have the lists of candidates of APC that we monitored their primaries”, he said adding that the Chief Beke APC never indicated any interest in joining the elecrions.

He said that RSIEC was not privy to any court case involving any factions of the party, adding that it was its duties to attempt to resolve any internal wranglings there from.

He said: “INEC is the body that registered political parties and have the record of the executive of any political party party. Not even the Court will impose an executive on any political party. So all those we are dealing with are from the records that we got from INEC.

But the Spokesperson for the Emeka Beke led APC, Darlington Nwauju, insisted that they  submitted their list to RSIEC on time.

Nwauju said they expected the commission to engage only with the party led by Chief Beke, which he said waw legally recognised.

He said: “As we speak we have the list of our candidates with RSIEC. Any attempt to publish any name or names without the endorsement of our Chairman, Chief Emeka Beke and the State Secretary, Sam Sam Etetegwungas been being candidates of the All Progressives Congresss in Rivers State will attract the long arm of the law.”

“How can you see more than 150 vigilantes holding guns in a polling unit? It doesn’t make sense. In a polling unit vigilantes holding guns? It doesn’t make sense. What is vigilante doing in a police unit? More than 150 of them.
