Okocha remains our Rivers chairman, says APC

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed Chief Tony Okocha as chairman of the party in Rivers State.

The party in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka in Abuja on Saturday denounced the claim by Mr. Emeka Beke to the office, insisting the Okocha remains chairman of the River chapter of the party.

Morka was reacting to a claim by Beke to the chairmanship seat of the party in the state at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.

The party urged members and the public to disregard Beke’s claim, which Morka described as false and misleading.

Denouncing Beke, the party wrote: “The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to media reports of a claim by Mr Emeka Beke to the Chairmanship of the Rivers state chapter of our Party.

“We wish to clarify, for the record, that Chief Tony Okocha is, and remains, the Chairman of the Rivers state chapter of our Party.

“We urge our teeming members in the state, and the general public, to disregard the said reports or reference to Mr Beke as State Chairman of Rivers APC as false and misleading.”

Dino Melaye regrets backing APC, says ADC ready for 2027

Former Kogi senator Dino Melaye has expressed deep regret for his past support of the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling it a serious mistake.

He also voiced confidence in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to produce a formidable candidate capable of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Friday, Melaye acknowledged his former alignment with the ruling party but made it clear he has since changed course.

“Once I was blind, now I can see. I regret in totality,” he said.

“Just like you confess your sins daily in the Lord’s prayer, I ask for forgiveness. Anyone who has moved with the devil, anyone who has aligned with an unholy tendency, should regret it.”

Looking ahead to 2027, Melaye said the ADC is committed to building a strong and stable party that can present a credible presidential alternative.

“Especially those of us in the ADC, we need to create a comfortable, stable platform. I believe that platform will produce a candidate that will unseat President Ahmed Bola Tinubu in 2027,” he stated.

When asked whether he would back former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the next election, Melaye declined to endorse any individual, saying his focus was on stabilising the party first.

“I will not be talking about a presidential candidate or preference for anybody until we get the party completely stabilised and organise a transparently honest convention,” he explained.

Although Atiku has not officially declared his 2027 ambition, Melaye commended his ongoing political engagement.

“What Atiku is doing is rescuing this country, bringing together men of honour and valour to correct and palliate the manifestation of the APC,” he added.

APC dismisses Jigawa Gov’s alleged N1.8bn luxury car purchase

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has dismissed a viral report alleging Jigawa Governor Umar Namadi procured a N1.8 billion luxury car for himself.

The party said the Governor did not buy any luxury car but has been committed to development of the state since assumption of office two years ago.

A statement by Jigawa APC Publicity Secretary in Bashir Kundo in Dutse, the capital city of the state said the report was to tarnish the image of Namadi.

It reads: “Ordinarily, we ought not to have responded to this misleading information if not for the sake of stating the facts and disabusing the minds of some gullible readers who might have misconceived the discredited publication.

“The publication was meant to distract the ongoing historic developmental projects undertaken by the People’s Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi.

“We believe that the purveyors of fake news and their merchant deliberately concocted and spread false information claiming that Governor Umar Namadi had awarded a contract for the purchase of 12 SUVs and took delivery of other luxury vehicles parked at the Government House for his official convoy.

“The publication falsely claimed that Jigawa generated only N6.9 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the first half of 2025. These are false claims and outright ignorance on the part of the informants, with a sinister motive and unprofessionalism for the so-called online platform peddling the falsehood.

“We like to put the record correct and clear that the state generated over N23.8 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the previous six months from January to June this year, not N6.9 billion as claimed by the false report.

“The report deliberately misinformed its readers by reporting in assumption that visitors’ vehicles parked in the premises of the Government House are newly acquired convoy vehicles for the governor. While it is legal for the Governor to acquire convoy vehicles, Governor Namadi is still using old vehicles used by his predecessor”.

APC maintained that the procurement law states how a contract can be awarded, a state being governed by finance expert cannot award a contract to a cabinet member or any individual entity unqualified by the law.

He added Namadi is squarely at home with integrity and trust of his people after initiating remarkable achievements in just two years.

  • 2027: PDP’s boasts empty, mere illusion – APC

2027: PDP’s boasts empty, mere illusion – APC

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the boasts by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to unseat it in the 2027 general elections as empty and mere illusion.

The Lagos State APC Spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo, made this remark in a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oladejo was reacting to a recent claim by PDP that only the former ruling party had the “structure and strength” to unseat APC in the 2027 general elections.

He said that such ‘political daydreaming’ should ordinarily be dismissed as the routine rhetoric of an opposition party desperate to stay relevant.

Oladejo, however, added for the benefit of the public and in defence of facts over fiction, APC had found it necessary to set the record straight.

“PDP’s claim of possessing the structure and strength to defeat APC is both laughable and detached from the current political reality in Nigeria.

“What structure is the PDP referring to — the same disjointed, crisis-ridden and fragmented formation that has failed to present a united front since 2015?

“Or the same “strength” that has led to serial losses at the polls, mass defections of key figures and internal implosions across states?

“It is clear that the PDP is yet to recover from the political rejection it suffered over the past decade — a rejection rooted in its legacy of corruption, impunity and squandered national opportunities.

“Nigerians have not forgotten the 16 years of PDP misrule that left our nation economically vulnerable, infrastructurally backward and institutionally weakened,” he said.

The APC spokesperson said that in contrast, APC remained the most formidable political movement in Nigeria today, grounded in progressive ideals, national unity and result-driven leadership.

“From Lagos to Borno, Rivers to Kano, APC’s policies and people-centric governance continue to win the trust and support of Nigerians at all levels,” he said.

Oladejo described the 2023 elections as a reaffirmation of APC’s national spread and deep grassroots connection.

“The same Nigerians who gave us their mandate then are witnesses to the significant strides being made by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration — particularly in economic reform, infrastructural renewal, digital transformation and national security.

“While PDP continues to operate in the echo chambers of political nostalgia, APC is busy rebuilding Nigeria and expanding its reach.

“If PDP believes its press statements and internal wishful thinking can substitute for credible leadership, national cohesion and visionary planning, then it clearly hasn’t learned anything from its past electoral humiliations,” he added.

According to him, PDP should focus on resolving its internal crises rather than issuing ‘hollow statements’ about 2027.

“Nigeria deserves a credible opposition, not a party still chasing the shadow of its lost glory.

“Come 2027, APC will again present to Nigerians a record of achievements, a unity of purpose and a future of promise — not the empty boasts and recycled faces of yesterday’s failures,” Oladejo said. (NAN)

Plateau Assembly visits APC National chairman

Plateau Assembly has expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the choice of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe, as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Plateau Speaker Naanlong Daniel Gapyil made the House’s  position known, in a statement by his spokesman, Philip Eplong, when he led a delegation of lawmakers to the APC National Secretariat to formally congratulate Prof. Yilwatda on his emergence as the party’s National Chairman.

Na’anlong described the emergence of Yilwatda as a historic milestone for Plateau State, noting that since 1999 when the first civilian Governor Solomon Lar, who led  the People’s Democratic Party PDP, the State had never produced a national chairman of a ruling party until now.

He stated the choice of Yilwatda is a clear testament to President Tinubu’s trust in the capacity and integrity of Plateau people. He expressed confidence that the new National Chairman will deploy his wealth of experience to reposition the party, even amidst current national challenges.

“We are here to celebrate you. Plateau men have never failed in any national assignment and you will not fail. We heartily congratulate you on this appointment,” the Speaker said.

The APC National Chairman thanked the lawmakers for the solidarity visit and pledged to lead the party with inclusivity, transparency, and a focus on growth and grassroots development.

He assured under his leadership, the party would be positioned for victory in 2027 and beyond.

He noted that poverty should not be a barrier to development, and commended President Tinubu’s efforts to empower Nigerians through economic initiatives.

He announced that the Federal Government, under President Tinubu, is injecting funds into the Bank of Industry to enhance food sufficiency and has initiated plans to deliver over 1.5 million housing units nationwide,  a policy that will positively impact Plateau State.

The APC National Chairman urged the lawmakers to step down the party’s manifesto to the grassroots and reaffirm his commitment to building a party structure that will earn the admiration and trust of Nigerians at all levels.

Speaking at the inauguration held at the Multipurpose Hall, Akarigbo Palace, Sagamu, Governor Dapo Abiodun emphasised the need for unity among party faithful, to ensure the party’s candidate, Adesola Elegbeji, emerges victorious.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has expressed worry about the credibility and impartiality of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in next month’s by-election to fill vacant positions in the National Assembly.

It called for redeployment of the Edo Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Anugbum Onuaha, and other electoral officers previously assigned to key local government areas.

Chairman of Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, who spoke at a news briefing in Benin City, said the party was prepared for the by-election in Edo Central Senatorial District and Ovia Federal Constituency.

Aziegbemi, who expressed confidence in the party’s candidates, Prince Joe Okojie and Johnny Aikpitanyi, said PDP had grassroots strength.

He said the party did not believe the Edo REC would be impartial in the conduct of the election.

    Aziegbemi said the continued presence

of the electoral officers threatened public trust in the electoral process.

APC only party ready for 2027, says southeast zonal chairman

The Southeast Zonal Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ijomah Arodiogbu, has declared that the APC is the only political party fully prepared for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting at the APC Secretariat in Awka, Anambra State, Arodiogbu said President Bola Tinubu’s achievements for the Igbo people have become a clear testimony of his commitment to the Southeast.

He stressed the need for unity among party members in Anambra to ensure victory in the upcoming November 8 governorship election, urging the support of APC governors in the region to help secure the state.

The meeting was attended by the state executive, zonal leaders, as well as local government and ward leaders of the party.

Arodiogbu noted that both the governorship and senatorial elections are key priorities for the APC at the state and national levels, and vowed that the party would spare no effort in winning them.

Dispelling rumours, he clarified that President Tinubu did not endorse the current Anambra State Governor—of APGA extraction—during his recent visit to the state.

He described the supposed endorsement as a mere photo opportunity, arranged by the state government during the President’s visit to honour elder statesman Chief Emeka Anyaoku.

Arodiogbu also dismissed the credibility of the ADC coalition, calling its members “political buccaneers” and asserting that those following them are wasting their time.

He claimed the current governor has lost popularity among churches, traditional institutions, market women, and other critical groups in the state.

Also speaking, the APC State Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike, praised President Tinubu’s leadership and urged Dr. Arodiogbu to draw the national party’s attention to the importance of the upcoming elections in Anambra.

Ejidike described the state and senatorial elections as a litmus test for the APC’s strength in Anambra and a gateway to winning the governorship seat in November.

  • 2027: ‘Enugu APC has capable candidate to take over from Mbah’

2027: ‘Enugu APC has capable candidate to take over from Mbah’

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Chief Basil Ani, has said the party has a capable candidate who can take over from Governor Peter Mbah in 2027.

He believes that any poll conducted in the state would see APC cruising to a landslide victory.

Ani, who spoke on Tuesday in Enugu, was reacting to the governor’s rumoured plan to defect to the APC.

He argued that the PDP administration in Enugu has not done much to bring dividends of democracy to the people, which he said he resulted in low ratings for the ruling party.

According to Ani, the APC in Enugu has recorded tremendous growth in statistics and inflow of thousands of defectors from the PDP and LP, thanks to the leadership sagacity of the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji.

The party, he insisted, therefore has the capacity to win the governorship election without Mbah needing to defect.

Ani said the influx of chieftains of PDP, LP, and APGA into the APC signals a shift in the political climate of Enugu, which he attributed to Nnaji’s leadership.

He added, “With Chief Uche Nnaji’s leadership, APC Enugu went from the worst performing party to the best performing party in the entire country, welcoming thousands of decampees every two weeks. All these were achieved in Enugu as an opposition party.

“Through the mantra of the renewed Hope Agenda of president Bola Tinubu, GCFR, the minister has been able to empower about 5,000 Enugu indigenes in form of federal jobs, appointments, empowerments.”

The APC chieftain urged Mbah to take immediate steps to secure citizens from marauding herdsmen.

He further urged the Mbah administration to prioritise security, and the wellbeing of Enugu people.

Ani insisted that APC would win in a landslide victory if a gubernatorial election was conducted in Enugu now.

“APC is confident in its ability to govern Enugu and has a capable candidate to take over from Governor Mbah in 2027,” Ani claimed.

Concerned APC members demand removal of Lagos State chair

Concerned and loyal All Progressives Congress (APC) members have demanded the removal of Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi as the Lagos State chairman of the party.

The group yesterday stormed the premises of Lagos State House of Assembly to submit their petition.

The body led by Apostle Faleye Segun described Ojelabi’s leadership as rudderless and lacking in vision and integrity since he took over in 2021.

In a letter addressed to the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, titled: ‘An Appeal to Urgently Save Our Party and Secure Our Lagos’, the group further  criticised Ojelabi’s handling of the 2025 local government elections, describing the primaries as the worst in the party’s history in Lagos State.

The statement said: “The highest point of his political chicanery was the mismanagement of the 2025 local government elections throughout the 57 local governments and local council development areas where he assembled the notoriously biased team to conduct the worst primary election in the history of our progressive party in Lagos State.

“Since 1998, Abiodun Ogunleye, Otunba Henry Ajomale and Alhaji Babatunde Balogun ran very inclusive and successful progressive party with all members’ interests at the heart of their administrations and enhanced electoral fortunes of our party.

“For the first time since the advent of Fourth Republic, Ojelabi-led party lost Lagos State to the opposition in 2023!

“This electoral disaster was followed by shabby performance in the recently concluded local government elections.

“As if that was not enough, Ojelabi, Faleke and their parochial, narrow-minded and self-centred team are planning to further polarise the party with one-side composition of the local government executives to further entrench their winner-takes-all agenda and positioning for 2027 electoral contests.

“The members of the party are not happy. We are tired of his selfish leadership and the plot of his team to derail from the progressive ideals championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The group reiterated their loyalty to the party and their support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ Agenda.

They urged the party leaders to ask Ojelabi to step down to avoid further disaster in the party’s administration in Lagos State.

Responding to the protesters, Bonu Solomon, the lawmaker representing Badagry 1, received the group’s letter and escorted them to the Governor’s Office.

It was gathered that the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hazmat, stopped by and assured the protesters that their concerns would be looked into.

The Elders’ Caucus members, including its Chairman, Sola Akinwumi, an engineer, held closed door meeting with the aspirants at his home in Ilobu, Osun State.

A source, who confided in The Nation, said 11 aspirants were invited for the meeting, but only six showed up.

The six aspirants include: Senator Jide Omoworare (Ile-Ife), Kunle Adegoke, SAN (Osogbo), Prince Dotun Babayemi (Gbongan), Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji (Ikire), Peter Babalola (Ikire) and Senator Mudashiru Hussein (Ejigbo).

Addressing reporters at the end of the meeting, Akinwumi said the meeting was convened because of the November 2025 primary election.

He said: ‘’We are here purposely because of the APC in the state, in preparation towards the primary in November. We are preparing the aspirants for the primary election that will be held this year and the message is that we should all work as one family. What people should expect is a rancour-free exercise; it will go smoothly without any issue.

“We have 11 governorship aspirants. Our aspirants are gentlemen, they are responsible men. At the end of the day when anybody emerges, they will all support such a person for APC to win at the end of the day.”

Commenting on Governor Ademola Adeleke’s possible defection into APC, Akinwumi said: “Adeleke’s moving to the APC is a closed chapter.”
