    Ardova H’ball: Niger United edge Safety Shooters in thriller

    Leaders , Niger United of Minna, made a bold statement yesterday by beating  closest rivals, Safety Shooters, 26-23 in the ongoing Ardova Handball Premier League in Lagos.

    The tension-soaked game had fans at the edge of their seats throughout the tie and both teams fought fiercely to win the  game. 

    With Tojemarine losing to Rima Strikers 24-23 and resting on Tuesday, Pillars’ win give the leaders an opportunity to pull away from chasing pack.

    Speaking after the win, Niger United coach, Yekini Adebayo, said that the match was an explosive one, adding his players were ready to emerge winners at the end of the league on Saturday.

    He stated that his boys showed technical ability and played to his instructions. He noted that the game was fierce but his boys did enough to emerge victorious.

    The former international said his players will approach the last four game  with  seriousness and focus, stating that his team would take each game as they come.

    He said: “It was a win that came at the end of a fiercely contested tie. Both teams were focused and gave but we played with a lot of grit and technical ability to win the game.

    “The last four games will be crucial but the win against Safety Shooters shows that my players are ready to do themselves, the technical crew and Niger State proud. With God, we will emerge league champions.” 

    In other games in the men’s category, Lagos Seasiders beat Police Machine 31-22, while Benue Buffaloes defeated De: Defenders 32-28.

    In the women’s category, Bayelsa Queens lost to Safety Babes 18-26, Seasider Babes fell to Defender Babes 21-36, while Benue Queens beat Bendel Dynamos 23-19.

    Ardova H’ball: Niger United maintains lead

    Niger United of Minna defeated Police Machine 30-20  to continue  their good run in the second phase of Ardova Handball Premier League, currently going on Lagos.

    Sunday’s game featured only the men team and United made it 15 win in 17 games, drawing one and losing one.

    Against Police Machine, the Minna side, who seems to be getting better with each game, dominated the game and should have scored more goals if not profligacy in-front of the post.

    Niger United coach, Yekini Adebayo said his aim was to win the league hence the need to take the game one after the other. He stated that there are no easy games but with better understanding of the game, his players have been able to do well so far.

    “There are no easy games but we always play to win and our desire is to be crowned champion. It will be tough but we are ready for the task,” he added.

    In other games, Confluence Star played a 23-23 draw against Rima Strikers, Benue Buffaloes lost to Safety Shooters 29-34, Bendel Dynamos beat Correction Boys 25-19, D:Defenders lost to Kano Pillars 28-31, while Tojemarine beat Lagos Seasiders 30-24.
