    Ardova HPL: Safety Shooters, Niger United win as Tojemarine bounce back

    Safety Shooters, Niger United and Rima Queens emerged victorious on the third day of the first phase of the ongoing Ardova Handball Premier in Benin, Edo State.

    In the male category, Niger United defeated Benue Buffaloes 21-17 in an interesting game. Both sides came out strong in the opening minutes but Niger United seized the initiative to win the first 11-8.

    The Buffaloes came back strong in the second but were pecked back by United who won the game to record their third victory in the competition.

    In other games, Safety Shooters defeated De Defenders 38 27 with half time scores standing at 18-15.

    Also Osun United lost to COAS Shooters 13-25  with the first half ending 4-14. Tojemarine HBC bounced back with a laboured win against Adamawa Warriors as the game ended 29-27.

    In the female category, Rima Queens defeated Rivers Queens 33-22 with the first half ending 16-8.

    Also, Imo Grasshoppers who trailed Ekiti Queens 15-10 in the first half rallied to win the 29-27.

    Niger United’s Coach, Yekini Adebayo expressed confidence in his team’s ability to lift the Ardova Handball Premier League trophy this year.

    Speaking after his team’s victory Adebayo said that his team won the title three years ago and winning it this year would be a welcome development, noting that his players were ready for the task.

    He said that the team trained hard for the league and lifting the trophy would be a reward for the hard work to the players and management.

    He said”: “The league has always been very competitive and we are always ready to do well. However, our ambition is to lift the trophy this year. It is a big task but we are ready.”

    Ardova, Dangote Refinery agree on bulk purchase

    Ardova Plc has entered into a bulk purchase agreement with Dangote Refinery.

    The agreement will see Ardova offtake a full slate of petroleum products from the refinery, in a new framework that consolidated Ardova’s relationship with the refinery. Ardova had been a significant offtaker from the refinery since its inception.

    According to the companies, the new framework will institutionalize a more robust relationship that will further enhance the emerging competitive landscape in the downstream oil and gas industry in the country.

    “This framework is in line with President Tinubu’s drive for competition and improved efficiency in the industry and will see Ardova Plc deliver products at competitive prices nationwide,” Ardova stated.

    Ex-champions Pillars dismantle Defenders in epic Ardova HPL tie

    Former champions, Kano Pillars, yesterday defeated D: Defenders 31-27 in the Ardova Handball Premier League currently going on in Lagos.

    The Kano team had to bring all their experience to bear as their opponents gave them a run for their money in the game. The encounter brought out the best in both teams but Pillars rallied in the final moments of the game to record the win.

    Also, Lagos Seasiders beat Benue Buffaloes 23-21 in another exciting encounter. There was little to separate the two sides in a game that could have gone either way but the Lagos side got the better of the Makurdi team.

    The game between Adamawa Warriors and Sunshine Kings ended 24 all. Both teams were guilty of wasting scoring chances, however, a draw was a true reflection of the game, which was keenly contested by both teams.

    In the women’s category, COAS Babes beat Plateau Peacocks 25-22, while Bendel Dynamos lost to Rivers Queens 33 -17.

    In today’s games, Seasiders Babes will take on Bendel Dynamos; Plateau Peacocks square up against Delta Queens; Benue Buffaloes lock horns with Tojemarine Academy; Rima Strikers battle Sunshine Kings; Rivers Queens play COAS Babes; Correction Boys play Lagos Seasiders; Adamawa Warriors battle D: Defenders while Kano Pillars, Safety Shooters slugs it out in the last game.

    New Ardova plant to meet 50% of Nigeria’s LPG demand

    A new Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) plant billed to commence operations next month will be able to meet more than 50 per cent of Nigeria’s demand.

    Ardova Plc’s (AP) newly upgraded terminal in Ijora, Lagos, which is set to commence operations in March 2024, includes a newly built 24,000 metric tonnes LPG facility.

    Fully propane rated and the largest in West Africa, it consists of a 1.6KM 10-inch jetty line connecting the facility to the NPSC jetty in Apapa, in-tank and in-line blending capabilities as well as other supporting infrastructure that can throughput about 700,000 MT per annum, which is more than 50 per cent of the nation’s current LPG demand. 

    Speaking during the pre-commissioning tour of the facility, Chief Executive, Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed, commended the progress of the project.

    “I am very impressed with this project, and I commend Ardova Plc for following all the due process. From the beginning, the Company involved NMDPRA as a regulator, and we are glad to see that the progress on the project has been very efficient. The Company has put the requisite safety measures in place to ensure safe operation.

    “The automation of the facility will help increase efficiency in what is already the largest LPG Storage facility in West Africa. From the regulatory perspective, I can assure you, we are enablers of investment. We are here to encourage you in meeting the deadlines of delivering this project because the nation is waiting for it,” Ahmed said.

    Group Executive Chairman, Ardova Plc, Mr. AbdulWasiu Sowami highlighted the project’s strategic significance for LPG supply security as well as price stability.

    According to him,  the terminal when combined with the company’s existing 6,000 metric tonnes LPG terminal in Oghara brings total capacity to 30,000 metric tonnes.

    “This gives us the required flexibility to receive propane, butane or even mixed LPG from local sources efficiently and blend in our facility to meet the local standards in addition to any quantity we may import,” Sowami said.

     Managing Director, Ardova Plc, Moshood Olajide noted that the LPG Facility is part of a total upgrade of the company’s Apapa Terminal which will see increase in the storage and loading capacities across all products.

    “As part of the upgrade, we also built a new 52 million litres PMS storage infrastructure as well as a fully reticulated 15 million litres water hydrant system for the entire terminal. This upgrade is geared towards accelerating our growth as a market leader in the delivery of energy in Nigeria,” Olajide said.

    Ardova H’ball: Grasshoppers shock Defender Babes

    Imo Grasshoppers of Owerri yesterday shocked Defender Babes 27-25 in the Ardova Premier Handball League, which comes to an end tomorrow.

    Grasshoppers have not had the best of times for several years, but they held their own against a younger Defender Babes to record the famous win.

    The game was close but the Grasshoppers made the better use of the chances they got especially towards the end of the game to emerge victorious.

    In other games in the women’s category, Delta Queens lost to Safety Babes 32-35. Both teams gave a good account of themselves as they battled hard for a win but Safety Babes relied on experience to win the game.

    With the victory, the Safety Babes maintained their top position on the table as they remain favourites to win the league. Bendel Dynamos’ woes continued as they lost to Rima Queens 24-34 and the aim is to escape relegation.

    Also, Seasiders Babes defeated Benue Queens 25-19 to better their standing on the table.

    In the men’s category, Confluence Stars lost to Bendel Dynamos 24–32, while Correction Boys defeated Lagos Seasiders 21-20.

    Ardova H’ball: Resurgent Kano Pillars edge  Edo Dynamos

    Champions Kano Pillars’ continued their resurgence by beating Edo Dynamos 37-30 in the ongoing  Ardova Handball Premier League in Lagos.

    Pillars’ seemed to have lost their form in  the league but have picked up wins to better their standing in the table.

    The team’s approach in Monday’s game against was direct and they took their chances to record the win.

     Pillars’ coach Solomon Yola said the win would boost  their chances of finishing in the first three position at the end of the league on Saturday.

    He said: “It has been difficult because we threw away game that we should have won. Monday’s win is a good one for us and it will help push us up the table. We are also in the middle of rebuilding the team but that is not the reason we lost our way early in the season. Our desire is to win every game we play but things have not gone our way this season.”

    In the women’s category, Plateau Peacocks defeated Rima Queens 20-14. The match was intense and close but it was the Peacocks who took advantage of the chances they had.

    In another game, Bayelsa Queens lost to Seasider Babes of Lagos 30-35. The Lagos team was the better side but it faced stiff opposition from the Yenegoa side. However, the Lagos girls did enough to win the encounter.

    Table-topping Safety Babes also beat Imo Grasshoppers 31-24. Safety Babes are yet to lose a games, winning 14 and drawing one. In another game, Benue Queens lost to Defender Babes 19-34.

    Also, Confluence Stars defeated Correction Boys 28-23.

    Tojemarine Academy defeated Police Machine 39-26 in the ongoing  second phase of the Ardova Handball Premier League.

    The Lagos-based team was the better side and made their dominance count with their second win in as many games  to maintain their second position on the log.

    Tojemarine made good use of the chances that came their way and defended well, while the Police boys were second best throughout the game. The Police team rallied in the closing moments of the game but met a strong resistance from the Tojemarine Academy boys.

    Leaders, Niger United of Minna also had a good outing, beating De-Defenders 34-28.

    It was a keenly contest tie, but the Minna team did enough to win the game and maintain their top position on the log.

    Defending champions, Kano Pillars dismal run continued as their games against Correctional Boys ended 21-21.

    Pillars’ coach, Solomon Yola was tensed throughout the game  as he needed  to find a quick fix as his team mediocre performance continues.

    Pillars’ performance has continued to confound their fans and handball as teams have taken advantage of their dismal performance.

    In the female category, leaders Safety Babes defeated Benue Queens 32-21, Rima Queens beat Delta Queens 29-22, while Imo Grasshoppers beat Bendel Dynamos 24-23.

    Champions, Kano Pillars’ poor run continued in the Ardova Handball Premier League as they were beaten 27-23 by Rima Strikers in the opening day of the second phase of the competition yesterday.

    Despite suffering some unexpected lose in the first phase of the league, the  defending champions were favourites against Rima Strikers but they surprisingly  fell to their opponents.

    The loss may have dented Pillars ambition of retaining their title as they now have six win from 12 games, drawing  two  and losing four.

    With the loss to Rima Strikers, Pillars will have to change their strategy to finish strong in the league.

    Meanwhile, it was a good outing for Niger United of Minna as they beat Correction Boys  30-22. The Minna team were the better side and made their dominance count with the win.

    The Coach Yekini Adebayo boys were solid defensively and a repeat performance against other teams would go a long in claiming the title after a long hiatus.

    In the women’s category, Rima Queens defeated Bayelsa Queens 30-21 while Delta Queens lost to Venue Queens 18-19, while Seasiders Babes beat Bendel Dynamos 25-24.

    Ardova H’ball Premier League Niger United, Safety Babes set for second phase

    Leaders of the first stanza of the 2023 Ardova Handball League, Niger United of Minna and Safety Babes of Abuja will  return to court  tomorrow  to continue their quest for the top prize.

    The second phase of the league returns to Lagos after the first stanza took place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, Edo State in July.

    The Indoor Sports Hall of the National Institute for Sports, National Stadium, and the main court at Rowe Park Sports Centre, in Yaba, will host the matches.

    A total of 22 teams made up of 10 female teams and 11 male teams are in contention for honours.

    Niger United will lock horns with Correction Boys of Abuja in the men second opening day match which throws off at 8:30am while, the female defending Champions, Safety Babes and counterparts, Benue Queens battle on Wednesday morning.

    According to the tournament fixtures for the second phase of the league, third place Rima Queens will take on Bayelsa Queens in the opening in female category, as D Defenders play against Confluence Stars of Lokoja.

    Other matches for the day are between Kano Pillars and Rima Striker while  Bendel Dynamos of Edo take on Lagos Seasiders at 10am in female category.

    Speaking ahead of the tournament, the Technical Director of the Handball Federation Nigeria (HFN), Balla Mohammed was full of excitement, saying that the followers of the game have a lot to enjoy at the tournament.

    He said: “Handball in Nigeria has taken a new dimension in the country. There are underdog anymore so all the teams must be ready to give their best. All thanks to Ardova Plc for giving the HFN the opportunity to handball a very serious game in Nigeria.

    “For players and clubs thinking that can wangle their way to the top, it’s not going to business as usual this time.”

    President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria, Samuel Ocheho, urged the teams to abide with  the rules of the competition, begging players and officials to eschew violence.

    Other matches slated for the afternoon of the opening include; Defender Babes vs Safety Babes (female) while the host state team, Lagos Seasiders take on Benue Buffalos (men); Plateau Peacocks battle Imo Grasshoppers of Owerri as Bendel Dynamos contend with Police Machine, while Tojemarine test their might against Safety Shooters.
