Arewa Think Tank backs Tinubu’s reforms, says Nigeria already experiencing economic rebound

The Arewa Think Tank has endorsed the economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asserting that Nigeria is no longer waiting for recovery but is already experiencing signs of substantive economic rejuvenation.

Convener of the group, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, made the remarks while responding to recent positive economic indicators, aligning with the view of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Deputy Governor, Dr. Tunde Lemo, who recently stated that the country is “seeing light at the end of the tunnel” after a challenging period of reforms.

Yakubu agreed with Lemo’s assessment but argued that the progress is more pronounced, declaring that “the light at the end of the tunnel is already shining.” He credited the emerging stability to the courage and political will demonstrated by President Tinubu in implementing far-reaching reforms despite their initial discomfort.

He also applauded the President’s enthusiasm over the Nigerian capital market surpassing the ₦100 trillion mark in market capitalisation, describing the feat as a significant vote of confidence in the economy and a validation of the administration’s reform trajectory.

President Tinubu, through a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, celebrated the milestone as historic, describing it as evidence of renewed investor confidence and the emergence of a new economic reality.

According to the statement, the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) All-Share Index closed 2025 with a strong return of 51.19 per cent, outperforming major global indices, including the S&P 500 and FTSE 100.

The President said this performance places Nigeria among the world’s best-performing equity markets and signals that the country is no longer a frontier market to be ignored.

Yakubu said these developments validate the President’s insistence that tough reforms were unavoidable if Nigeria was to escape economic collapse.

He also referenced Dr. Lemo’s warnings that without the removal of fuel subsidy, tax reforms, and monetary tightening, Nigeria could have plunged into a deeper crisis.

Lemo had cited declining inflation, improved exchange-rate stability, and easing food pressures towards the end of 2025 as evidence of resilience.

Yakubu said the Arewa Think Tank believes the gradual deceleration of inflation, stabilisation of the naira, and renewed activity in the capital market show that the reforms are beginning to yield results.

“The ₦100 trillion NGX milestone, the decelerating inflation figures, and renewed investor confidence are not coincidences. They are outcomes of deliberate and courageous leadership,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to exercise patience and continue to support the administration, adding that sustainable growth requires shared sacrifice.

According to him, President Tinubu’s pledge to build a transparent, inclusive, and high-growth economy driven by fiscal and tax reforms offers hope that Nigeria is firmly on the path to recovery.

“The journey has been tough, but the signs are clear. The tunnel is behind us, and the light is already shining,” Yakubu concluded.

Defence Minister, Anyim, Arewa Think Tank hail Tinubu’s efforts against insecurity

Prominent Nigerian leaders, including Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, former Senate President, Senator Pius Anyim, and Convener of the Arewa Think Tank (ATT), Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, have lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its determination to end insecurity and reposition the economy.

They spoke in Kaduna at a public lecture organised by the Arewa Think Tank to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary, themed “65 Years of Nigeria’s Independence: The Journey So Far with the Renewed Hope Agenda in View.”

The Defence Minister said insecurity in the North has considerably reduced under the Tinubu administration, citing improved safety along major highways and the return of farmers to their fields in previously troubled areas.

“We from the North have been telling our people that President Bola Tinubu has been part and parcel of us. I have been walking into his bedroom while Lagosians keep waiting for him until he comes out. He is a man of respect and honour, truly the Asiwaju of Nigeria, and his handshake cuts across the country,” he said.

“This government is our government; Asiwaju is our man. Today, banditry attacks have reduced in the North. Most of us from Kaduna State can testify that farmers have returned to their farms in Birnin Gwari, people now go to the market safely, and there are no more attacks along the Zaria–Funtua–Gusau axis. We are not saying insecurity is completely over, but we are almost there,” he added.

Former Senate President Pius Anyim commended President Tinubu for deepening citizens’ engagement and promoting accountability in governance.

“I want to say that wherever and whenever Nigeria is being celebrated, I will be there and proud to be part of it,” he said. “This event is to further strengthen citizens’ engagement with the government on key policies and programmes under the Renewed Hope Agenda. That agenda represents the totality of this administration’s vision and action plan.”

Anyim emphasised that citizen engagement is critical to the success of every government policy, saying, “It is through such interaction that government can secure the understanding and support of citizens. I commend this initiative as one way to strengthen democracy and stabilise our politics. Only an accountable government engages its people, and by doing this, President Tinubu is proving his commitment to transparency.”

In his address, Convener of the Arewa Think Tank and organiser of the event, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, said Nigeria remains a resilient nation despite its challenges.

He insisted that Nigeria is not a failed state, noting that the tough economic reforms introduced by President Tinubu are necessary steps to reposition the economy for sustainable growth.

“Tinubu is the man that will take this country to the promised land,” Yakubu declared. “What we are witnessing today is fiscal discipline in our economy. Given time, the impact of these reforms, especially in agriculture and the oil sector, will directly benefit ordinary Nigerians and farmers.”

He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against divisive narratives aimed at destabilising the country, saying: “As we celebrate our independence anniversary, we must not allow the enemies of progress to draw us back. Despite our challenges, Nigeria is not a failed state.”

  • Arewa Think Tank blasts Trump over designation of Nigeria as CPC

Arewa Think Tank blasts Trump over designation of Nigeria as CPC

The Arewa Think Tank (ATT) has slammed former U.S. President Donald Trump over his recent remarks classifying Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC), describing the move as a veiled attempt by the West to sow religious discord and destabilize the nation.

In a statement in Kaduna, the Convener of ATT, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, accused the Western world of using religion as a tool of manipulation after several failed attempts to undermine Nigeria’s unity, peace, and progress.

“We condemn the Western world’s stance aimed at igniting a religious crisis in Nigeria, using some of our own people as collaborators,” Yakubu said. “We are warning such individuals to desist from this unpatriotic alliance and urging the Federal Government not to fall for this trap.”

He argued that the CPC designation had little to do with any genuine concern for Nigerian Christians, insisting that contrary to Western propaganda, there is no genocide against Christians in Nigeria.

“For decades, Muslims and Christians in Nigeria have coexisted peacefully and will continue to do so. Both faiths share a common enemy, the terrorist groups Boko Haram and ISWAP, whose atrocities have claimed more Muslim lives than Christian ones,” he added.

Yakubu maintained that what Nigeria truly needs from the United States is sincere partnership in the global fight against terrorism, not divisive labels or interference. He cautioned Washington against using the “false narrative of Christian persecution” as a pretext for renewed foreign intervention.

“Mr. Trump and his allies should not use this false narrative as justification for another round of ‘weapons of mass destruction’ or ‘regime change’ operations, tactics that destroyed Iraq, Libya, and other nations,” Yakubu warned.

The ATT Convener urged Nigerians endorsing Trump’s position to learn from history, noting that similar Western interventions have left behind chaos and plunder. “Whenever the American political establishment pushes such narratives, what follows is destabilization, conflict, and looting of natural resources, as witnessed in Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Libya, and even Ukraine,” he said.

Yakubu further alleged the renewed Western focus on Nigeria’s religious affairs is economically motivated, pointing to the nation’s growing energy and mineral potential.

“With Nigeria’s refining capacity rising above 650,000 barrels per day and expected to exceed 1.6 million within three years, our energy independence threatens Western interests. Add to that our lithium and other critical minerals now in global demand,” he explained.

He said Western powers, losing influence in sub-Saharan Africa to China, are resorting to destabilization tactics to protect their interests. “Their only remaining strategy is to create crises, supply weapons, and plunder resources, just as they did elsewhere. Now their focus is on Nigeria, the pride and hope of the Black race,” Yakubu asserted.

He called on Nigerians across religious and ethnic lines to unite in defense of national sovereignty. “We must stand together and resist these divisive tactics. Let us remain steadfast, as other nations did, against foreign manipulation. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he concluded.

    • North’s group frowns at calls to probe NSA

A prominent Northern advocacy group, Arewa Think Tank (ATT), has expressed confidence in the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), led by Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, to tackle the security challenges facing the country.

ATT said he has been doing a commendable job in tackling the nation’s security challenges and should be allowed to continue without distraction.

In a statement, the group’s Convener, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, stated that Ribadu’s strategic efforts have been yielding tangible results in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and other security threats across the country.

“The NSA, under Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has been working tirelessly to address the country’s security challenges. We believe that his efforts are producing positive outcomes, and he deserves our collective support to sustain this momentum,” Yakubu said.

His remarks followed a call by the Coalition of Northeast Youth Group Leaders, which recently issued a seven-day ultimatum to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to probe the NSA’s activities, threatening peaceful protests if the government failed to act.

Describing the coalition’s demand as “misguided and unnecessary,” Yakubu maintained that Ribadu’s performance has been consistent with the administration’s renewed focus on national security and stability.

“We urge the government to leave the NSA alone and allow him to continue his good work. Probing him now will only distract from the progress being made. The NSA is doing a good job and deserves support, not suspicion,” he said.

Yakubu also hailed President Tinubu for what he called a “bold and historic decision” to relieve the former Service Chiefs of their duties.

He said the move demonstrated the President’s firm political will to reform the military and strengthen national defence institutions.

Yakubu explained that the event, earlier scheduled for October 9, 2025, was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the planning committee.

He said the group aligns with the President’s message of hope, unity, and national rebirth, describing it as the moral compass needed to drive Nigeria’s development at this critical juncture.

The ATT, he added, firmly believes that national unity remains the foundation for Nigeria’s progress and collective advancement.

The Arewa Think Tank (ATT) has celebrated First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on her 65th birthday, describing her as a symbol of dignity and a true mother of the nation.

In a statement by its convener, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, the group praised the First Lady as a quiet but influential force behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, offering counsel and grace as Nigeria navigates its path of progress.

Yakubu noted that Senator Tinubu has consistently demonstrated compassion, resilience, and commitment to service, inspiring hope and touching lives across the country.

He highlighted her decades of public service, first as a senator and now as First Lady, where she has dedicated herself to uplifting the vulnerable, amplifying the voices of the unheard, and fostering unity.

2027: Arewa Think Tank applauds Tinubu for passing vote of confidence Shettima

The Arewa Think Tank (ATT) has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for passing a vote of confidence on Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general elections.

President Tinubu had, during the celebration of Vice President Shettima’s 59th birthday celebration stated that, “I deeply appreciate your vibrancy, loyalty, partnership, and support as my deputy. In choosing you then as a partner, I selected competence and other qualities that Nigeria could depend on.”

During his recent visit to Japan, President Tinubu held an interactive meeting with select members of the Nigerian community, showcasing his administration’s commitment to engaging with citizens abroad.

  • Revenue formula review: Arewa Think Tank hails RMAFC chair

Revenue formula review: Arewa Think Tank hails RMAFC chair

The Northern group, Arewa Think Tank (ATT), has praised the Chairman of Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, over the ongoing exercise to review the current Revenue Allocation Formula (RAF) for sharing revenue amongst the three tiers of government in Nigeria.

The group described the RMAFC boss as a proactive, pragmatic and a round peg in a round hole, who obeys and follows constitutional mandate to review, from time to time, the revenue allocation formulae and principles in operation to ensure conformity with changing realities.

In a statement by the Convener of ATT, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, noted that by the ongoing review of the revenue sharing formula, the Commission is operating in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“We are delighted at the actions of the Chairman of Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, over the ongoing exercise to review the current Revenue Allocation Formula (RAF) for sharing revenue amongst the three tiers of government in Nigeria.

“This singular display constitutional responsibility shows that Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu is in tune with Paragraph 32 (b), Part I of the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) which mandates the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to “review, from time to time the revenue allocation formulae and principles in operation to ensure conformity with changing realities.

“The resolve of the Commission to initiate the process of reviewing the revenue allocation formula in line with this constitutional responsibility and in response to the evolving socio-economic, political, and fiscal realities of our nation is highly commendable by ATT.

“We will not shy away from reaffirming that President Tinubu’s government is alive to the socioeconomic needs of the people of Nigeria because we gathered that the last review of the Revenue Allocation Formula was carried out in 1992; and today we are in 2025, which is 33 years ago without executive orders to modify the formula to reflect emerging socio-economic realities.

“The review will no doubt lessen some financial burdens on State governments because the recent constitutional amendments by the 9th National Assembly, which devolved certain responsibilities from the Exclusive to the Concurrent Legislative List, such as generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity; railways; and prisons (correctional centres), have seriously placed financial and administrative burdens on them.

“We want to agree that this situation has made it essential to reevaluate the structure of fiscal federalism in order to foster economic growth in individual states, enabling them to become independent from the central government and ensuring equity and sustainability.

“It further gladden our hearts that the aim of this review is to produce a fair, just, and equitable revenue-sharing formula that reflects the current responsibilities, needs, and capacities of the three tiers of government-Federal, State, and Local Governments-in line with the constitutional roles.

“We therefore urge the Commission to carefully assess the needs, service delivery obligations, fiscal performance, and developmental disparities across the country.

“We want to believe that the review will involve broad-based consultations with critical stakeholders, including the presidency, national assembly, state governors, ALGON, the judiciary, MDAs, civil society organisations, traditional rulers, the organised private sector, as well as development partners, to ensuring accountability, and keeping the public informed from time to time.

“We believe that the Commission’s commitment to discharging its responsibility with utmost integrity, objectivity, and national interest is indeed with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President. This is a historic opportunity to shape a more resilient and equitable fiscal system for Nigeria, and the people, we shall not be disappointed by this government”. The statement said.

2027: Arewa Think Tank backs Tinubu re-election bid

The Arewa Think Tank (ATT) has declared its support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, highlighting his administration’s strides in improving security, education, and infrastructure across the North and Nigeria at large.

Speaking to journalists during a 2-Day Interactive Session on Government-Citizens Engagement organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna, ATT Convener Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu said the North has no reason not to back Tinubu’s return in 2027.

Yakubu’s remarks follow a recent summit in Kaduna where Northern leaders assessed Tinubu’s performance.

While some attendees raised concerns about ongoing insecurity and poverty, others praised the administration for its infrastructure drive and the inclusion of northerners in key government positions.

“Therefore, Arewa Think Tank want to call on the people of the North to rally round Mr. President and re-elect him in 2027 for more infrastructural developments to come to the region.

“We must tell ourselves the bitter truth that as it is now, North does not need political power for now, but infrastructural and human development which President Tinubu has continuously been pushing to our people in the North.

“Our candid advice to northern leaders is that they should stop playing the blame game and instead focus on long standing regional neglect which Tinubu has come to repair.

“We must be honest, Tinubu didn’t create the insecurity or poverty in the North. The rot started long before him, and we are forced to ask, Where were those loud voices now blaming him when the North was neglected and abandoned by its leaders who were at the helm of affairs of this country?.

“We must commended Tinubu’s administration for its efforts in improving security, education, and infrastructure in the North.

“We are not running away from the fact that there is economic hardship but we want to affirm that some visible strides had been made in key areas, including infrastructure and security.

“We want to applaud President Tinubu once again over the introduction of the

Renewed Hope Agenda, which has highlighted projects like the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Expressway and Kano-Katsina-Maradi rail line that are transforming the North.

“It is very clear and visible that significant progress has been made in eliminating bandit kingpins and terrorist commanders in the Northern region.

“Among other infrastructures brought to the North by Tinubu’s administration, there is also empowerment Programs that targeted grants and initiatives to tackle the Almajiri and out-of-school children crisis.

“There is no doubt that Tinubu’s administration has shown commitment to the Northern region’s development. So as the 2027 elections approach, the North should rally behind his re-election bid.

“We want to commend the management of Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation for organising a significant two-day interactive session on government-citizen engagement, which held in Arewa House, Kaduna.

“We are particularly grateful to the Federal Government for graciously participating in this programme, as well as the elder statesmen, stakeholders, and representatives from various Northern groups, organisations, and institutions whose presence underscores the importance of the gathering.

“We are confident that every deliberation at the event would yield actionable insights and strengthen the partnership between government and citizens for the advancement of our region and country in general,” Yakubu said.
