…seeks greater attention to security, education, heathcare
A northern youth advocacy group, Arewa Youths for Democracy and Development (AYDD), has called for renewed efforts toward improved governance and development in Zamfara State under Governor Dauda Lawal.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Gusau, the group appealed for greater attention to sectors such as security, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth empowerment, noting that these areas require urgent and focused intervention to improve the lives of residents.
President of the group, Comrade Ibrahim Danladi Gwaska, said the optimism that greeted the governor’s emergence in May 2023 presents an opportunity for the state to build on past efforts and deepen development.
He highlighted the security situation in rural communities such as Maru, Zurmi, Anka, Shinkafi, and Tsafe, urging the state government to intensify collaborations with relevant security agencies to ensure peace and safety for residents.

On education, the AYDD expressed concern about the condition of learning environments in some public schools and called for improved infrastructure, better support for teachers, and increased investment in the education sector.
Gwaska also stressed the importance of revitalising the state’s healthcare system, urging the government to prioritise access to essential services, upgrade facilities, and address shortages in personnel and equipment in both urban and rural areas.
He noted the expectations of young people in the state regarding employment and empowerment, and encouraged the administration to initiate programmes that support job creation, entrepreneurship, and skills development.
On infrastructure, the group advised the government to revisit and complete critical road projects to ease movement for farmers, traders, and other residents.
The AYDD further encouraged transparency in public spending and policymaking, and called on the Zamfara State House of Assembly, traditional leaders, and civil society groups to continue playing their role in strengthening governance and accountability.
“Zamfara State has enormous potential, and we believe inclusive and responsive governance is key to unlocking it. We call on all stakeholders to work together to support progress in the state,” the group said.
